Wi-Fi IP address setting leads to GPRS fail problem - Touch HD General

Hi to all people over here!
I have met such a problem with my Touch HD device:
As I have a wi-fi router, that I set up for each device to have predefined ip addresses when connecting, I have to enter ip address setting on my Blackstone too. When I do this for "IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible Wi-Fi Adapter" and some time later I am not able to connect to gprs/edge connection.
Exact repro steps: 1. Set Use specific IP address = true and enter "ip address", "Subnet mask", "Default gateway" fields. 2. Turn on and off "Data Connection" in Comm Manager to reconnect current GRPS/EDGE connection. 3. Try to enter some website in Opera(network connection error) or IE - this step fails for me as I cannot open any sites.
I have confirmed this bug by one of the users of russian 4pda.ru forum - he uses another russian rom. But we don`t have a solution to fix it. Maybe someone have met such problem?

I have the same problem.
GRPS works fine if I leave the WIFI settings to default. As soon as I change the WiFi adaptor to use a static IP and static DNS GPRS fails to connect. Does GPRS use the same DNS server settings as WIFI????
I'm using Duttys 2.2....

anyone else having this? I just chnged to Dutty's 2.3 and the bug is still there...

I expected everyone to be screaming about this bug. Am i really the only one with it???

i noticed same bug. It wasn't present in stock ROM.
Tested with ROMS based on build 21040 and newest 21042 and bug still there.
You defined problem correctly. 3G/UMTS data connection fails if you set manually settings under wifi config, that should be independent and not affect data connections, but it does. Is strange because browsing using IPs works, but domain names doesn't resolve correctly.
I think is some kind of dns-cache-network-config problem, but no solution found yet. Will post here if i find something.

Thanks. It seemed clear that it was a DNS resolution issue, but i can't see how the two are related...

Not wanna steal this tread but my new Diamond 2 / Topaz has the exact same problem. Not so strange since they're quite similar. I hope a fix will come soon, i've wasted alot of time narrowing the problem down

Thank you !!!!!!!!
YESSSS!!!! YESSSS!!!!! YESSSS!!!!!!!
I cannot say thankyou enough for this!! I've literally been pulling my hair out for days about this problem (well okay - not literally).
I've even been on the phone to Orange who ended up running a diagnostic on my phone from their end and questioning my ROM version (Miri WM 6.5 v13 - didn't go down too well!)
My phone is no longer a pocket brick. Thank you

anyone found a workaround ?
anyone found a workaround ?

use DHCP to get an IP-Adress

Thankyou so Much!!!
This thread is golden!!
Just like johncmolyneux, I too must thank you guys for this post! It has changed my life! For as long as I have had my Touch HD (almost SEVEN WEEKS) I have been tearing my hair out as well over this problem, constantly on the phone nearly every day to Orange UK customer services who were stumped over this problem but to their credit tried everything to solve it.
I have an Orange UK Touch HD with:
ROM: 1.19.61.1 WWE
ROM date: 11/25/08
Radio: 1.09.25.14
I too have a wireless network where I need to define static IP addresses for devices which I now know is the basis for this problem!! Changed the settings in Touch HD to use server assigned IP (DHCP) after reading this post today and now GPRS/3G now works like dream!!
This now means that I have to reconfigure my network until there is a solution (if one becomes available) but should not be a big inconvenience.
I am speaking to Orange customer services on Monday so I will advise them to get their technical department aware of this issue.
Once again, thanks very much, this problem was stressing me out big time, spoilt my enjoyment of my Touch HD, it is now perfect!

Same Problem with my Blackstone since I upgraded the official HTC TOUCH HD (EU) ROM Release Date: 2009-04-07. IN the ROM before, there was no problem when i was using a static IP and DNS. Some other German and Swiss guys have the same Problem with their devices. I already sent a message to the HTC Support, but they closed my project without an answer. A few minutes ago I sent a second request.
In a german PPC board a guy has the same problem with his new Toshiba TG01.
@ALL
As a workaround you can use the application Wifi-Profiles to switch between static and DHCP.
http://blog.renestein.net/Wifi+Profiles+For+Windows+Mobile+English+Version.aspx

Today I recieved a message from the HTC Support and they know this problem. They said MS changed something in the ROM and it's their fault.

MortPlayer (Beta) with A2DP and AVRCP support published!

Mort uploaded a beta version of his player to the "bluetooth stock" thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=345791#345791
It enables you to:
- use your bluetooth stereo headset with your Magician (and probably other devices too?) without a pause between tracks
- use all buttons of the headset as for what they were designed
- use equalizer and effects with the bluetooth headset
- use both bluetooth and wired headset / speaker at the same time (if you want to, else you can automatically set volume to 0% at startup and reset it on close)
Installation:
- install BCHS bluetooth stack (backup your device if you wish to remove it later!):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33532&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
- install at least MortPlayer 3.31RC4:
http://www.sto-helit.de/modules/wmpdownloads/viewcat.php?cid=4
- overwrite the mortplayer.exe with the new one from the thread
- rename mortplayer.exe to WMPLAYER.exe (also modify all linking files and registry settings)
Installed BHCS, installed Mort, overwritten MortPlayer.exe with provided version, renamed to WMPLAYER.exe, but still no audio over headset
Did you select your headset at the "Audio" page of the bluetooth settings? Does Windows Media work?
everything is ok
but sometimes when i listen to music and the screen is off music suddenly dissappeared, and device don't react when i press hard buttons.
So i have to SR my device

Also, don't forget to check the "Stream audio to headset" option (or s.th. like that, it's German on my device...).
If your headset's not listed in the dropdown, you might need to update your device. I don't know whether it depends from the main ROM or the radio part, I updated both to 1.13 and now it works. With the previous versions the A2DP/AVRCP profiles weren't detected by the Microsoft stack.
My device has already updated to 1.13 ROM & 1.13 Radio )
Does your Magician get very warm? Playing MP3s and streaming via Bluetooth needs much of the cpu power, so maybe it is getting too hot or voltages are unstable?
sometimes very warm, sometimes not so much
Does this also happen if you use Windows Media and Bluetooth?
You could try whether this version is more stable. It implements more of the WMP object model, though still not the entire one (which is very complex...).
no, never
i'll try to use XCPUScalar or Xguru and will tell as soon as i get the results
This new version works fine.
Thx a lot.
:wink:

Was meinst du mit "(also modify all linking files and registry settings)"?? - wie geht das?
How do you modify linked files and registry settings??

Yes, AVRCP works now by using the WMP plugin, but only with this test version so far. Mort did not release a new stable version of his player (though this test version is very nice! ). That's why you don't find it on his site, but here (XDA-Developers.com ).
By "also modify all linking files and registry settings" I mean that if you rename the application to WMPLAYER.exe neither the link in the startmenu works nor the ones in the registry used in the file explorer for "open file". I could change the link in startmenu using "Resco File Explorer" like on XP. The registry settings can be changed by "open with" or directly with a registry editor.
its true, its true!!!!!!!
MORT you are definitely the greates!!!!
You fullfilled my strongest wishes!
Have you ever thought about selling your great software to HTC??
thanks a lot
phil
Your strongest wishes?
I'm very happy that this piece of software is freeware and that Mort is developing new features very quick. If he would sell it to HTC, they would put one version on a device and the newer version on a newer device - no chance to update. And I don't think they would buy it because it is very advanced. Maybe a "light" version with as much options as WMP would be a good deal.

http://www.sto-helit.de/modules/wmpdownloads/?sel_lang=german
Hi Unauthorized,
I have to uninstall completely my version or can I just copy the exe and rename it to wmplayer.exe ?
thx
I think you can simply install the new RC6 from Mort's site over the old one using the installer or the cab-file. Then rename the exe-file to WMPLAYER.exe so that the BCHS stack accepts the player for A2DP.

Dutch TV stream app tester wanted!

Hello all,
I've been working on a simple application to stream live tv to my device because my providers tvstream is just crap. But it so happened that my device is out for repair a couple of days(weeks?).
So if someone would be so kind to test the program for me that would be nice.
Requirements:
-Dutch tv viewer
-CoreCodec Coreplayer installed on your device.
-Network connectivity (about 700kbit/s)
-Phone in device, for location specific wifi-stream function (instead of 3g)
-Wifi in Device (same as above)
-Willing to give me useful feedback.
More info when we get in contact.
If you want to test my app, please drop a line. I'll reply with a cab, if I don't I have enough testers.
ps. I plan to release the app for home use (with your own tv-card!), but this can take a while....
pps. For free ofcourse, voor de echte Nederlander!
ppps. I only need several testers, because my current upstream only handles 1-2clients at a time. And since I have only one tvcard, everybody will be watching the same selected channel!
ps. For the test app you won't need a own pc/tv-card or anything... just a smartphone.
is it something like this MyTinyTv.
yeah it is, only this one also support a map in which avi files can be dropped for mobile viewing (or is that possible with mytinytv as well?)
nope, and i cant get tiny tv to work.
so i don`t think i`m a good candidate for testing your app.
i think it has something to do with my two routers.
maar hoop wel dat je app goed word.
en heb maar standaard WnW van t-mobile dus.... qua snelheid
Ready to test
Ola,
Just send a email i'm ready to test...
This piece of software never made it to a public release If you really think it's cool, let me know... (I have a server script and the client sources)
tester!
Hey there!
If you still need some testers, Here I am.
I've all the requirements you've said.
Let me Know!

IOException when trying to access GPS program port

Hi all,
I try to read NMEA data from my device's (WM6 Pro) internal GPS (SirfStar 3). In GPS settings it says programs should use COM4 (iGO8 uses it, and it works fine!). So, I made following program in vb.net:
Code:
Imports System.IO.Ports
Imports System.IO
Imports System.Text
Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic
Public Class frmMain
Public port As SerialPort
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Try
port = New SerialPort("COM4", 4800, Parity.None, 8, StopBits.One)
port.ReadTimeout = 500
port.Open()
MsgBox("port opened")
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox("error while opening port" + vbCrLf + ex.ToString())
End Try
End Sub
End Class
Now when I try COM4 I get following error and stacktrace:
Code:
System.IO.IOException was unhandled
Message="IOException"
StackTrace:
bei System.IO.Ports.SerialStream.WinIOError() bei System.IO.Ports.SerialStream..ctor() bei System.IO.Ports.SerialPort.Open() bei openstreetwalk.frmMain.Button1_Click() bei System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick() bei System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnClick() bei System.Windows.Forms.ButtonBase.WnProc() bei System.Windows.Forms.Control._InternalWnProc() bei Microsoft.AGL.Forms.EVL.EnterMainLoop() bei System.Windows.Forms.Application.Run() bei myapp.frmMain.Main()
InnerException:
When using COM2 which is the real GPS HW Port it works but I do not get any data out of it.
What do I miss? (Oh, btw, there is no other app using the GPS running - but shouldn't it also be the purpose of the shared COM4 port that multiple apps can use GPS at same time)

CoPilot Text To Speech

Does anyone know the status of Text To Speech software for CoPilot? The website has been promising this feature for quite a while. I find the licensing process, website and CoPilot Central to be some of the most cumbersome procedures I've encountered for software. CoPilot Central seems totally useless for the HD2; the website is large and disorganized; I live in fear that the license will suddenly be nonfunctional if my memory card were to fail. Of course, I only paid $25 for the software, so....
-Bob-
This is the main reason I havent bought it. TTS can save a lot of wrong turns. ALK promised TTS as an upgrade with an earlier version of Copilot (must have been 7) when it was launched but it never happened.
Would love to see this feature added to v8. Running v6 on my HD2 but the maps are getting old.
I thought it was available already and thought I'd seen somewhere you paid £2.99 to enable the feature. Here's the HTC version of the site:
REMOVED
And here's the manual where is mentions tts:
REMOVED
OK, links won't show as my account isn't verified.
hi, thats the real problem on copilot, the software itself is ok for that price. but the support and communication of alk is worse. i now send them an email again, because in there news section they wrote that texttospeech is available for (one time) £2.99, and live traffic service for(one year subscription) £19.99. but the support page is still saying 'comming soon'...
regards mad
so i got an answer from the support team, its in german language:
Die von Ihnen erwähnten Dienste sollen in den nächsten Tagen veröffentlicht werden. Den genauen Tag können wir Ihnen leider nicht sagen.

translated to english it say:
the services you request (tts and live traffic) should be available the next few days, we are sorry that we cant give you a more specific date.

we will see what happens, anyhow im thinking about going back to igo. copilot is nice but lacks function when it came to details.

TTS is listed in copilot central now along with live services. The only thing is, not sure which one to go for as they have TTS for EU Major, and TTS for Pan EU. Not sure which one is for UK?!

I've never seen CoPilot Central work. Today when I started it, it installed an update. Now it's sitting on "No products of that type on record" for each category. Even at $24, I'm about to look for an alternative. ALK strikes me as a company totally asleep at the wheel.

Same here. CoPilot itself is ok, but CoPilot Central is totally useless. It's never done anything for me that could be described as 'functioning'. Apparently, no one at ALK thought of testing their software before selling it.
Edit: OK, I found some small print on the ALK website that says CoPilot Central isn't meant to work with the HD2. But still, even before connecting with my device, that software was failing miserably.
I have upgraded to live traffic by getting the latest software version from alk and having a custom rom which doesn't have copilot baked in. The hd2 version does not supportcopilot central.
I am trying to find a link to buy the tts online. The license key system works ok as long as you deactivate prior to rom upgrade. I have forgotten twice and both times alk has deactivated the key for me within 2 days.

[Guide] Alternate to Ad-Hoc Wi-Fi Network for your Android Device

1. Introduction:
-This guide is for those who do not have a Wi-Fi router in their network. The guide will teach you how to access the internet in your Android device, where by the internet is only accessible in your Laptop though LAN.
-Before when Galaxy S2 had Gingerbread, there was a modified WPA_Supplicant here. However it does not work with ICS and above and no one else have come up with a updated mod.
-However if you have Windows 7/8 [does not work in XP] then you can try setting up a Virtual Wi-Fi adapter which works as good as a WI-Fi access point.
-There are many other ways like Connectify and other softwares, but they have not worked for and more over why to bloat the system when there is a native feature support in PC.
-There is another alternate called reverse tethering. But that will require root and it only works for me sometimes. More like when I get lucky. You can try this app or this guide.
2. Requirements:
a. Windows 7/8
b. Administrative access for Windows PC
c. Wi-Fi enabled Laptop or an Desktop with Wi-Fi adapter
3. Steps:
Step 1: Press start and type cmd and right click on it click on "Run as Administrator"
Step 2: Type netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=NAME key=PASSWORD and press enter
Note: NAME is the name which you want to give for the WI-Fi accesspoint and PASSWORD is the security key which is required for accessing the Wi-Fi AP in Android device. Also the password should be at least 8 character long.
Now wait till you get three sets of line confirming the command as attached in screen shot. It sometimes may take around a minute
Step 3: Type netsh wlan start hostednetwork and press enter. You will again get a confirmation message. By this step the new Wi-Fi access point will be broadcasting and when you scan it in you Android device it will appear in the list
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 4: There is one more step to make the internet pass through the newly created Wi-Fi access point. The internet should be shared via LAN adapter. To do that follow the steps as below:
a. Start -> Run (or press Windows key + R)
b. Type ncpa.cpl and press enter
c. You will see Network Connections now
d. Here you will find a new network adapter called "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter". This one is created when the "Step 3" is done as above. Note down the connection name. In my case it is "Wireless Network Connection 2"
e. Now identify the one which is connected to your LAN network where internet is accessed (this can be LAN adapter, WiFi adapter or even dialup connection in case of tethering)
f. Double click on that connection identified under step (e)
g. Click on "Properties"
h. Click on "Sharing" tab
i. Tick on "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet Connection"
j. Under the drop down list for "Home networking connection" select "Wireless Network Connection 2" [or which ever it is in your case]
k. Click on OK and close all the dialogue boxes
[
Step 5: Now scan for Wi-Fi in your Android device and you can find the Wi-Fi with whatever SSID you created. Connect to it and enjoy the LAN internet in your device.
Note: If you wish to turn off the Wi-Fi AP you created then you can type netsh wlan stop hostednetwork in the command prompt and press enter. The next time you restart your PC you can directly do the "Step 3" above and you are good to go.
Also you if you wish to change the SSID and/or password later do only the "Step 2" and "Step 3" as above.
4. Troubleshooting:
1 - Wi-Fi is not turned on in PC
You might get an error stating as below when you try the "Step 3":
The hosted network couldn't be started.
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
This is because the WI-Fi adapter is turned off in your PC. Just turn it on which usually will be a physical button or a function key in your keyboard. Now try "Step 3" again and you shouldn't be getting the error.
2 - Insufficient resources error
You might also get an error stating as below when you try the "Step 3":
The hosted network couldn't be started.
The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
This can happen if the Virtual WiFi Miniport adapter is not working properly. Try the below steps to resolve it:
a. Under network connections, if you already have a Virtual WiFi Miniport adapter then make sure its not disabled. If yes enable it back by right clicking and selecting enable.
b. OR - if you don't find the WiFi Miniport adapter at all then do as below:
i. Open Run and type "devmgmt.msc" and press enter
ii. Now you will get Device Manager window. Here expand the Network Adapters tab.
iii. Identify the actual WiFi adapter and right click on it and select disable.
iv. Now right click on it again and select enable
After this the adapter settings will have rested and the "Step 3" should be a no problem.

Quick note:
For those who are not able to solve the issue mentioned in troubleshoot 2 in guide above here is an checkup. With admin rights in command prompt type as below:
netsh wlan show drivers
After you press enter you will get a list of line items. There check for "Hosted network support: Yes"
If it is mentioned as "No" then you need to update your wifi adapter drivers.

Well but the thing is virtual wifi adapter is much for efficient and secured than ad hoc network. Even if you want to set up the ad hoc it will take the same amount of procedure. Just that you will be using the GUI and not the command prompt. But do note that windows 8 has no ad hoc feature
Only draw back of the this method is that you need wifi adapter supporting virtual wifi and you should be on Windows 7/8.

In the process Harsha Raj was very useful and he was giving continuous support..
Thanks, it is very useful to users like us who are not using Data plans.
Thanks a lot again buddy.
God Bless us all.
Vielen Dank für diese super Anleitung.
Lange habe ich versucht, eine Lösung für das AdHoc Problem unter ICS zu finden. Diese Anleitung ist die perfekte Alternative.
