XDA2 volume slider hack

if you want use side slider on your XDA2 for something else then changing sound volume now you can do it (with some restrictions):
This utility unmap volume slider on MDA2/XDA2/iMate (and probably other PDAs).
Disclaimer:
By default side slider change system volume and can not be used for something else (only exeption is some games).
What it do:
This prog remove mapping of side slider on changin volume making possible to use it in other programs (scrolling pages in Haali Reader for example).
Installation:
Copy file unmap_volume.exe to "/Windows/startup" folder
soft-reset device
Uninstall:
delete file unmap_volume.exe from /Windows/startup
soft-reset device
How to map this slider in other programs/which programs are supported:
Side slider generates virtual-key codes 0x75 (equal to "F6" button) and 0x76 (equal to "F7" button). If your programm can use this buttons then it can use slider.
Is it possible to run programs by slider (like by ordinary application buttons)?:

Ive managed to change the registry entry in WMP so I can use it to change tracks.

unfortunately this hack can be used in very few apps (see readme.txt) but v.2 is coming soon
Main feature of v.2 is driver, that remaps unstandart vKey codes (0x75 and 0x76) to the standart "application-buttons" range, wich make possible to use "volumeup" and "volumedown" buttons like calendar/contacts/camera/record button. the code I've at this monent is not 100% stable, and configuration interface is far from user-friendly, but it is quite workable, so final version will be released shortly.

Just a question, Des. What registry settings are you changing or removing? A friend of mine has a PocketLOOX which has sliding buttons to be used for Up and Down - I would be keen to find out what settings he has got in the Registry...

farnold this hack isn't registry tweak so it dosn't change, create or delete any registry keys. unlike PPC2002 in WM2003 handling of keys with vKey codes 0x75 and 0x76 is hardcoded in shell32.exe and current version of hack just rollback RegisterHotkey() maked in shell32.exe

i don't use microsoft reader so i can't tell you exactly, but if MS Reader is able to bind desired actions to application buttons (calendar/contacts/camera/record but NOT joystick/action) then most probably that you should be able to use volume slider in it (with next version of button remapper).

Hm, I think I will be left out then... I would think that SCROLL FOREWARD and SCROLL BACKWARD in MS Reader are nothing but JOYSTICK TOP and JOYSTICK BOTTOM ...
But that makes me thinking as well... you mentioned that you change something in shell32.exe... the PocketLOOX has a similar slider which does nothing but scrolling... maybe someone knows which function is required???

let's make things a bit clearer: there is no problem to make volup/voldown dublicate joyUp/joyDown, but I'm not planning to include "per application profiles" in this version, so such remapping would be systemwide.
ps: why peoples are using M$ reader ? there are lot of e-book readers (iSilo, mobi pocket, uBook, Haali reader) that are (imho) much better than M$R, and there are converters from drm'ed .lit to open formats (plain text/xhtml/XML e.t.c.)... so WHY ?

Because it's just the best program for reading a lot - I mean "best" when it comes to things like display quality, fonts and so on... and I don't have a problem with DRM, but probably 1,000 free eBooks in lit format... that should be enough for my life :lol:

And is there any hope to use it with XDA1 (T-Mobile MDA) - the volume button is stupid and absolutely useless! :evil:
I would have it changed into JogButton and start all the apps with it...

BTT: why not add to this tool to allow the slider to be mapped to custom keys? PageUp/PageDown would seem like an obvious choice to me, making it instantly compatible with the majority of readers, but others might want it to be mapped to other keys. All the same, PocketQuake could have PgUp/PgDn mapped to weapon changes
I have to say I find the In-Call volume control indespensible - some phone calls come through quite loud, while some come through very quiet.

Wi-Fi IP address setting leads to GPRS fail problem

Hi to all people over here!
I have met such a problem with my Touch HD device:
As I have a wi-fi router, that I set up for each device to have predefined ip addresses when connecting, I have to enter ip address setting on my Blackstone too. When I do this for "IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible Wi-Fi Adapter" and some time later I am not able to connect to gprs/edge connection.
Exact repro steps: 1. Set Use specific IP address = true and enter "ip address", "Subnet mask", "Default gateway" fields. 2. Turn on and off "Data Connection" in Comm Manager to reconnect current GRPS/EDGE connection. 3. Try to enter some website in Opera(network connection error) or IE - this step fails for me as I cannot open any sites.
I have confirmed this bug by one of the users of russian 4pda.ru forum - he uses another russian rom. But we don`t have a solution to fix it. Maybe someone have met such problem?

I have the same problem.
GRPS works fine if I leave the WIFI settings to default. As soon as I change the WiFi adaptor to use a static IP and static DNS GPRS fails to connect. Does GPRS use the same DNS server settings as WIFI????

i noticed same bug. It wasn't present in stock ROM.
Tested with ROMS based on build 21040 and newest 21042 and bug still there.
You defined problem correctly. 3G/UMTS data connection fails if you set manually settings under wifi config, that should be independent and not affect data connections, but it does. Is strange because browsing using IPs works, but domain names doesn't resolve correctly.
I think is some kind of dns-cache-network-config problem, but no solution found yet. Will post here if i find something.

Not wanna steal this tread but my new Diamond 2 / Topaz has the exact same problem. Not so strange since they're quite similar. I hope a fix will come soon, i've wasted alot of time narrowing the problem down

Just like johncmolyneux, I too must thank you guys for this post! It has changed my life! For as long as I have had my Touch HD (almost SEVEN WEEKS) I have been tearing my hair out as well over this problem, constantly on the phone nearly every day to Orange UK customer services who were stumped over this problem but to their credit tried everything to solve it.
I have an Orange UK Touch HD with:
ROM: 1.19.61.1 WWE
ROM date: 11/25/08
Radio: 1.09.25.14
I too have a wireless network where I need to define static IP addresses for devices which I now know is the basis for this problem!! Changed the settings in Touch HD to use server assigned IP (DHCP) after reading this post today and now GPRS/3G now works like dream!!
This now means that I have to reconfigure my network until there is a solution (if one becomes available) but should not be a big inconvenience.
I am speaking to Orange customer services on Monday so I will advise them to get their technical department aware of this issue.
Once again, thanks very much, this problem was stressing me out big time, spoilt my enjoyment of my Touch HD, it is now perfect!

Same Problem with my Blackstone since I upgraded the official HTC TOUCH HD (EU) ROM Release Date: 2009-04-07. IN the ROM before, there was no problem when i was using a static IP and DNS. Some other German and Swiss guys have the same Problem with their devices. I already sent a message to the HTC Support, but they closed my project without an answer. A few minutes ago I sent a second request.
In a german PPC board a guy has the same problem with his new Toshiba TG01.

As a workaround you can use the application Wifi-Profiles to switch between static and DHCP.

Couldn't use it... Seems to have problems with my OS localization?! My system uses pathnames with chars such as "ã" and "ó". Does the app support full unicode? It complains it cant find the path to the database file which is in \A minha memória\TPSMP\Database...
Also noticed it doesn't install inside the "Program files" folder (or respective localization name) but rather installs to the root of the selected drive.
Could you tweak the position of the buttons and stuff so that they'll be right above the bottom bar? I have an Omnia (WQVGA) and there is empty space between the button bar and bottom bar...
What kind of media does it currently support? Also rather than using WMP wouldn't TCPMP be a better option? Either that or have built-in player capabilities like using ffmpeg for ppc...

it´s a bug in the get application path function. It appears when you have a blank in the path. I will fix this horrible bug!!!
Currently it only supports the codecs given from WMP.

Sorry I have no idea... Not a coder.
Just thought that the ffmpeg.dll could be used to make TPSMP not depend on WMP. But for what I read in it's release thread the current compile has the network functions disabled... If it were to be used it may need to be recompiled with these functions active.

Thx it works I like it I can even add my own Channels thats coool and it plays really really well better then TCMP for me no buffering

TV works nice but for some reason I haven't been able to use radio... I usually get messages from WMP like "Access is denied" (Bayern), "The parameter is incorrect", "Unable to open file. The file is damaged or not supported by the player", "At the moment it's impossible to perform the requested action" (rough translation from portuguese message)...
I reckon the interface is not the priority at the moment. I have two small suggestions:
1- Fullscreen on image/video press (like TCPMP).
2- A small suggestion on the volume control. How about something similar to the way TouchPlayer on the Omnia does it (easier on the finger)? Volume bar pops up when the volume button on screen is pressed.

Its easy just go to Add Stream in the File Menu then gave your Stream a name and add the URL thats all really

Has anybody succeed in using TPSMP with wm2003 se.

TomTom Navigator Clipped Audio Fix

Hi all,
For everyone with the problem with TomTom Navigator whereby it only announces part of the directions, attached is a small application which provides a workaround.
It works by playing a short silent WAV file in a loop in the background, starting TomTom then shutting itself down automatically once TomTom is closed. This is basically the same mechanism as mentioned on another thread whereby a silent MP3 is played through a script in an external MP3 player but written as a self-contained program.
To run TomTom with the fix:
If you don't already have it, first install the Microsoft .NET 3.5 Compact Framework. Available as a cab here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2ZGV1DNJ.
Unzip the attached TomTom Audio Fix.zip and copy TomTom Audio Fix.exe into your TomTom Navigator directory e.g. "\Program Files\Navigator". You can then just run TomTom Audio Fix.exe which will automatically start TomTom.
This has been tested on TT 7.910 (9185) and 7.915 (9196), please post here if you try it out with whether it's working ok or you run into any problems!

v1.10:
- Icon refreshed, now displaying correctly.
- When run, TomTom Audio Fix.exe will now automatically generate a "TomTom Navigator.lnk" shortcut in the current directory. This can be copied directly over the installed TomTom shortcut in the start menu; saving the need to manually create a shortcut to the fix.
v1.11:
- Thanks to Mr_Q, this is now provided as a .cab file:
º Automatically copies file to TomTom Navigator directory and overwrites the shortcut in the start menu.
º Install the cab in the same location as you installed TomTom (eg. Storage Card), else it won't work.​- Removed redundant change from 1.10 which created the TomTom Navigator shortcut.

Do I understand it right, after installing the fix I have to start the fix from explorer and TT will start automatically??
In that case is there a chance for a shortcut in programm directory? That would make it more easy than starting the programm everytime from explorer.

Beside my question one post before, the fix worked fine. Only a shortcut would be fine.
I tried to copied the fix into windows\startmenue folder, but then the correct path will not be found.
I have navigator on my storage card installed. Path is in german:
Mein Gerät\Speicherkarte\Programme\Navigator
When I start the fix from there it works fine.

You will need to manually edit the TomTom shortcut in your windows\startmenue folder. Copy the TomTom Navigator.lnk file from the start menu to your PC, open it with a text editor, and change where it says "TomTom Navigator.exe" to "TomTom Audio Fix.exe" e.g. I changed mine from:
47#"\Program Files\Navigator\TomTom Navigator.exe"
to:
47#"\Program Files\Navigator\TomTom Audio Fix.exe"
Save the changes and copy it back replacing the original file. Unfortunately there are too many installation locations / languages etc for me to automate this!

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it! Today I did a testrun using TT7 and the voice now works like a charm...very happy about this fix!

Its working like a charm. Theres only one thing I noticed. When TomTom is started, it starts muted. Is this how its supposed to be?

This program can be configured to launch by a hardware button or with a link in your favorite program launcher.
What BTAudioNav does:
Turns bluettoth ON it it is currently OFF (Only Microsoft Stack)
Redirects all PDA audio to the car handsfree or tho the byke bluetooth helmet, etc.
Starts the GPS navigation program configured.
If while working a call is received, we can manage the call as usual.
Once the call is ended the audio is redirected again to the handsfree.
When the GPS program is ended, the audio is redirected again to the PDA speaker, the Bluetotoh radio is turned OFF if it were OFF initially and the program exits.
Configuration:
Copy the BTAudioNav.exe file to the navigation application folder.
Create a link to the navigation application executable in the same folder. For example, in your desktop, navigate to your mobile device, find the iGo8.exe file, and with the right mouse button select Create link. You can do also wiith copy/paste link in Resco explorer
Rename the link to NavApp. For example, if you have igo8.exe.lnk rename it to NavApp.lnk (maybe you can't see the .lnk extension but it is there).
Start BTAudioNav.exe

It is possible to switch between listen music and hear the igo voice?the connection between the car speaker is made by Parrot 3200 LS and device HTC HD with iGo 8.3.2....

Do you mean shortcut, i do not get a link option ?

Currently not. BTAudioNav opens the HandsFree for reception and this blocks handsfrees that are also music devices.
Only calls disconnect the PDA audio. I'm working on this...

With Resco explorer it is simple: Hold over the exe file and "copy". Then "paste as shorcut" and "rename" as NavApp

BTAudioNav request for change
Hi Beemer,
Thanks for making this special kind of software and most of all for sharing it with others!
Do you still work on BTAudioNav or did you leave it "as is"? I would like to use is to route all my MDA Compact IV -audio (phone and navigation) to my carkit. That works fine, however:
Is it possible to make the connection with the handsfree-set only when the navigation-lady speaks? Because now my car-radio mutes as soon as I start BTAudioNav and I cannot listen to my car-radio when she has nothing to say.
Is there a way to use it in combination with HGPS-switch to (un)load BTAudionNav, HyperGPS and IGO with one click?​
