I am trying to figure out, which GPS Phone to purchase and I am hoping that you guys can give me some insides of your user experiences with the P3600.
After some further research, I am leaning towards the P3600 rather then Eten or Pharos.
This poll is starting to confirm that the users are pretty happy with the Trinity.
It looks that the majority is quite happy with the P3600 - good to know!
Now, if HTC starts shipping units with corrected paint jobs, then I am in for one and will retire the Prophet.

Who cares about some paint man!... I don't think any mobile phone that is put through daily use and abuse holds it's paint for very long...
It's about the tech inside; that's just awesome with this P3600 dude!

To me, this is a very important issue!
I take good care of my gadgets, so that I am able to sell my stuff and re-invest in new toys a year later - that is a normal cycle in my eyes.
I currently own a Prophet and even after a year of daily use, the device is in excellent condition and I am planing on selling it for $300 in order to be able to buy the P3600. So, if the P3600 looks like crap after two month of use, then this decreases the re-sell value, which poses a problem.
On the positive side though, the P3600 seems to be a great toy and the paint issue really is just a cosmetic problem (which I really, really hope they will fix very soon)
"So, if the P3600 looks like crap after two month of use, then this decreases the re-sell value, which poses a problem."
The paint problem is subjective, I also bough a black P3600, in november 06, I have a minimal paint problem, when I tried to show it to my sis she didn't even see it, but it is there, it peeled of because of the memory card cover, when I opened it it scraped(i think that's the right word) a little bit of the paint.
My glossy screen protector worries me more than that tiny piece of paint, I miss the shiny screen lol.
I would purchase the HTC P4500 (HTC Kaiser) or the HTC P5500 (HTC Nike), which are currently not yet available..
So I maybe would have wait till they were released before buying the P3600.
They both got gps, fm radio,...
Kaiser no FM radio.... but it's not correct compare p3600 with phones that not available at the moment

I like the look and specs of the Kaiser but I would not want to be the first one to go through a test cycle and subsequent bug fixes of a new released model.
The Nike is a smartphone right?
I see indeed that the Kaiser has no FM radio, weird, I thought I read somewhere it did..
Anyways, it has a built-in flash camera etc.
The Nike is a bit in between of pda and smartphone, I don't know what it really is.. It has a touchscreen, has a camera with built-in flash etc.
But if they wouldn't be releashed in the future, I would definately go for the P3600.
Let the future alone..
Making purchase choices, based on specs only, for machines that need months to come to market..... Get the real thing! By the time they are "stable" products, the P3600 would have been near 2 years in the market..... IMHO we, xda-dev readers, don't hold our machines that long...... just read most senior signatures....
Enjoy your 3600 as much as you can, this is TODAY the best PDA/PHONE/GPS/3G etc A-V-A-I-L-A-B-L-E
I really like my Trinity.
I've only had it for about 2 months now, but in general I'm very well pleased.
I hav't had any of the paintpeeling problems - I bought a white one and have put it in a silicon cover as I have a bit of a grip problem holding anything.
I did have a problem with a 4GB memory card, I kept a lot of media files ot it and Windows Media player wouldn't see the card and update its library. There are plenty of threads about that one and its easy sorted.
You can have a few problems with the GPS unless you manually configure the Comm port to 9 and the baud rate to 4800, after doing that, I get a valid fix withn 2 minutes, although the strength of the receiver is quite weak in comparrison to some other units and you can lose the fix. But hey, its a PDA not a garmin.
I am a bit dissapointed with video media playback, the trinity being a bit slow sometimes.
It has enough processing power for most things and is elatively fast enough.
the camera is decent for a PDA, way better than most phones.
Overall though - well reccomended, best PDA I've had so far. out of the 6 i've owned.
I think that my vote will change if HTC will not upgrate p3600 to WM 6. If so; I will never buy any HTC product in the future.
I have mixed feelings, I'm probably satisfied with it, but I'm not over the moon. I still feel it's quite slow for the apps that I need to run on it, and the RAM is a bit low too. In terms of the looks, it's pretty nice, I would like it to be a bit thinner but it's not that much of an issue.
If I had to get a device unconnected, I wouldn't have bought the Trinity, I probably would have waited about a month for something from the I-Mate Ultimate range...but the Trinity, aka M700 was the best thing I could find on UK Networks, which specifically has to be Orange for me anyway!
Hello. I've been following the Kaiser thread ever since I heard about it, and with the same anxiety of the owners of that phone i've been waiting for the miraculous drivers to appear. I'm looking forward to upgrade from a HP hx2750, to a new pda with phone. After a few research I concluded that the pdas the fit my need are the HTC p3600 (trinity), p3600i (500Mhz processor version) , the Tytn 2 Kaiser or the coming Eten X800 and the I-mate 8502 which in my option is the best off all those but I doubt it will be available sooner than April 2008.
From all those the p3600i and tytn 2 seemed more appealing. So I have to pick between the p3600i (since i'd rather have more ROM and processor speed though paying a bit more) or the kaiser, tytn 2.
I like to play videos, take pictures and once in awhile play a few games, but also have a decent scrolling and browsing speed since I'm used to the hx2750 wm6, BUT, i'm not sure if the drivers will ever be made or work properly... in other words I wouldn't like to have a crippled phone as expensive as that kaiser(not getting contract!). The p3600i looks great is not so buggy but doesn't have keyboard and this is something I always missed in the hx2750. Neither I know if the keyboard in the end is really that useful cause it looks very hard to type in...
I heard better things from htc in past times but now they don't seem to care for consumers opinion, so that's another question. I dunno if it's better to get the kaiser and wait for drivers or get something more solid. I heard new windows 6.1 will come out soon, so might be a help or push to fix problem. I prefer more the kaiser but the p3600i is impressive too...
So i'm here asking for whoever wants to share its opinion... What's the best buy p3600i or tytn2 (kaiser, tilt)?
Is htc giving up the kaiser for real?(no more drivers, no more production of that model? And does the p3600i as any issue too?
P.S:I really refer to the p3600i not the updated p3600(trinity)
Heavy s**t
My penn'orth:
The TyTyn 2 is SOOOOO heavy and bulky. although the 3MP camera is nice, the keyboard is not really that useful as it's fiddly to use and the bulky size and weight for me do not justify the tilt / keyboard.
For it's size I'd say go with the 3600i.
It may be useful in terms of getting responses - to specify which driver issue you are talking about - I'm not sure myself!
I would like to add that you should keep in mind that the P3600i is still relatively new and that if you plan to immediately flash the ROM to your favourite cooked TouchFlo variety you will be unable to do so for a while so you'll have to stick with the original stuff for now. Apart from that I would say that a big part of your decision-making considerations would be the hardware keyboard and how important having one means to you - to be honest I hardly use them. Additionally, I HATE to feel the looseness/play created by the moving parts, and I like a solid phone with only buttons - no flips, slides or twists. Another consideration is battery life - not sure exactly how they compare, but I have a feeling there is not much difference between the two (keeping in mind that the P3600i has a faster processor than the Kaiser). I am not sure how the cameras compare either, but the Kaiser should indeed produce better results, though I will say that the P3600/P3600i's photos are not that bad either. Another factor, presumably, is the cost. I am about to buy a P3600i today and it's running me USD$599 - the TyTN II is USD$750. For me it's the P3600i, but of course, the choice is yours. You have to look at all the differences between the two phones (read as many reviews as you can) and the environment you will be using the phone in and the type of usage you will demand from it to fine-tune and make the best decision for yourself.
I had to make the same decision and ended up with the p3600. For two reasons:
1st: The P3600 comes with almost the same functionality, like wifi, gps, hsdpa/umts and so on - but is cheaper and smaller. Besides that the P3600 has no performanceproblems with applications or videoplayback.
2nd: I dont do any SMS-texting, neither do I write any e-mails from the phone. So the keyboard wasnt too important to me. Since there are some nice programs for fingerfriendly onscreen keyboards, I can type small texts without any difficulty and quite fast.
You definitely get more for your money with the p3600 ... which is useless if you need to write 20 emails a day on your phone ...
The drivers issue I made reference to (Htc tytn 2) problem is the fact it has a video performance worst than earlier models, it's slow and paused when scrolling, can't play games with proper frame rates. This is blamed in the lack video drivers... the tytn 2 or kaiser thread is filled with users seeking a solution to that.
The p3600i is a beautiful device but I don't know till when the 64MB memory will be a issue, and the kaiser offers 128Mb...
I don't really mind not having a cooked rom as long as the new one isn't that bad or buggy. About the touchflo I don't know really what is and how useful is but I suppose is something like finger scrolling... don't think is useful in such small screens... ^^
My hx2750 screen is almost as big as the p3600! I compared them side by side!
Does anyone knows if any htc device will be updated to wm6.1?
Thanks for all opinions...

HOLY CRAP. . .
This isn't the new HD though, so maybe the HD is still going to be strong for a year(meaning no major updates to it, just internal hardware, like a US 3G antenna).
I dont think we will see an upgrade for the HD till later this year (if at all) but this in most peoples eyes will easily do for a HD with built in keyboard.

That new TPro is still sexy though , but they could have done with out the bezel and all the brushed aluminum(not saying that I don't like).
*sigh* it makes me confused to make a decision between Touch HD and Touch Pro2
Touch Pro2 contains lots of software impovements, espsecially a newer version TF3D,
however, the backplate which coloured in grey really... ugly ('cause I'm a grey-hater)
the Touch HD have a stylish design (in my opinion), but software are just out-dated
and there maybe not have any WM6.5 offical ROM provided, even an update of TF3D
Anyone can help me to make a choice?
My only concern is about the updating of software and any alternative colours of Touch Pro2

The Touch Pro 2 is just too heavy for me, the HD is bad enough...same old story, to keyboard or not to keyboard. The WhiteStone is supposed to be the replacement for the HD. Who knows when it will come. Personally I don't care to upgrade my HD because with these new devices come new roms, YES!

i fully believe that the new TouchFLO will be available to the HD thanks to XDA-DEVELOPERS
and i can't wait, it seems to have some nice additions and tweaks
o and WinMo 6.5 will definitely be available for the HD thanks to XDA-DEVELOPERS (not an official upgrade, but fully awesome)
not impressed
I'm not impressed, i have had three HTC Phones and all have been underpowered due lack of chipset drivers, I will be probably looking towards the omnia HD next, unless HTC decide to shell out the cash for licences for drivers. it winds me up no end that. made I was fooled yet again by HTC into buying one of their half finished handsets.
Its good more XVGA's are coming out as it means more supported apps. Maybe a google version might help us crack the RGB666 issue.
Hardware Keyboard
I sincerely beleive that the HD (aka beast, aka black stone) is currently the ultimate device. Most people who long for a hardware keyboard must have never used the TouchPal. I have done continuous testing and TouchPal allows me and most other people to type considerable faster. I DO RECCOMEND IT for anyone who has not tried it.
I love what I'm seeing with the new ROMs out there and I'm not worried at all that the brilliant minds of this community will bring it to the world best device. Heck, after WM 6.1 was ported to the BlueAngel than everything is possible here!
I love my HD and these new devices can't even hold a candle to it. 3.8 WVGA display, FM Radio, 5MP camera with Autofocus, GPS, front full 2nd VGA camera, 7 hardware buttons, magnetic stylus, expandable memeory via Micro SD (now up to 32GB) all in a form factor the same size as the iPhone! (who can beat that?!)
Only thing the HD's missing is US 3G support, and Video Out, and a capacitve touchscreen.
Damn I love my HD!!!!!
The only way to make the HD better

LOL yes many of us agree with you there!
I wonder if there's an exact launch date on this. I'm due for an upgrade soon.
Before getting the HD, I was a happy TyTN II user. Sure I wished for at least VGA and a larger screen but I was content (with the technology back then). But when the super sexy HD came out with WVGA and faster performance I was interested but the lack of keyboard held me back till I found out I could manipulate the screen to horizontal for any "serious typing" since the landscape keyboard was almost the same size in length as the physical keyboard. Now with FingerKeyboard (the black & red) I am completely satisfied. I gained light-weight and thin and able to type.
My next upgrade will be for windows 6.5 and the faster processor and video card!
I think my girlfriend will be pleased
I just pre-ordered the diamond2
expected delivery date: april 10th
I'm gonna be so lucky tonight

As a community we are here of Blackstone users, im curious whether will upgrade to HD2?
Actually im satisfied with the HD as i can do everything i need, especially with the ROMs we found here. But i think its question of time that ROM-makers migrate do Leo, isnt it?

Just what the poll needed thanks!! I voted the 4th..
no for me...
more todo with the HD being a work phone. not sure when im due for a replacement but as most places int he current climate - we aint replacing much kit unless it's essential.
HD does me perfect really. does everything i need it to.... although it could be a bit quicker!
i love winmo..which is coming to extreme soon
ofcourse yes
i would like to upgrade
i read opinion out here .. for me I made a query aswell if i could upgrade it or not like what iphone 2g did with 3g 100£ and upgrade option..
for me what i think is htc touch hd is great but two things missing on it...
i.e Responsive ness (really important for being quicker "as someone mentioned up" about htc touch hd not being quicker)
second is multitouch gives lots time saving on internet browsing what i learnt using iphone....
solution on htc touch hd2
multitouch and responsive ness as it uses sensitive (capacitive) screen which is in detailed mentioned on general forum aswell.
of course i am winmo lover as i hate toy type of things and the hype iphone has got.. (yet considering the usability and ease of use it has provided for general users,) i believe our htc touch hd is real tool.
in the end i would love to upgrade if there is anything like upgrade option....... as i still have my 8 months left on contract.
I'd love to, but it's too expensive to consider. I never spent so much in a mobile before as with the HD, and it must last another year at least to be worth the spent.
In most cases if there is something REALLY new on the market, it's a bit like a beta version.
See the first Iphone without 3g, touch hd with rarely supported screensize and the little bit too slow processor, or the first directx 10 cards with to slow performance for this technology, ...
Products with big "improvements" are mostly a little bit beta, so i think it's good to wait and look what's in the future

Absolutely not hehe. I knew that i was missing something. Cheers
Picked 4th one .
Hoping when the winmo7 version comes out, it'll have:
* the front face videocalling camera again (i like how it gives me the option to make videocalls and portrait pics with my gf and mates by giving a preview)
* maybe an even narrower, thinner, shorter body (same 4.3in screen)
* over 1350mah battery size
* that stylus they patented
others I'd like to see:
* Not necessary, but front-touch buttons like the HD. Unless they implement hardware buttons alot better than the HD2 (imo the layout and shape looks ugly)
* oled-amoled screen
My initial reaction to leak specs and pictures was:
No....not enough improvements for me to consider
When 6.5 Leo ROMs came out I was like:
Upgrade? I can have WM 6.5 on my HD!
After reading more reviews and videos:
I’m considering.....
Now:
Is it a question? Of course, yes!
Can't wait for delivery.
It is too big IMHO.HD is perfect sized.
But the capacitive screen and the Snapdragon are so attractive...
It's a hard choice
The faster CPU, multitouch (FINALLY) and the bigger screen make me find it worth the upgrade.
As for WM6.5 on the HD, ok, it works, but the HD is still, as it always was, underpowered for such a big display.
Only under the best and freshest of circumstances does it run smooth.
The new gen CPU should change this considerably.
And get ready, my supplier states HD2 to be deliverable on the 6th!

will have to 2nd that.
Have chosen Option 4.
More CPU Power is good but it is too big now (Not a problem though) and the removal of the front cam and stylus is really bad.
Better camera software is needed and flash should be better.
just to post a quote from msmobiles
Edward J. R. said:
HTC made it: thanks to their big investment in research and development, they are the first to release Windows Mobile phone with multitouch. But there is one big problem:
... namely, unlike Samsung, that is providing SDK for Samsung Windows Mobile phones to take advantage of accelerometer, compass, etc, HTC is not providing such SDK at all, what is a big problem in case of HTC HD2, as one of our readers have noticed:
* Whatever remains of the Windows Mobile community is going bonkers over the HTC HD2 and its hacked-in multi-touch support. Why in the world does this matter if third-party apps won't be able to use it? I'm sure we'll see community API efforts on XDA-Devs, just like for past HTC controls (circular controller, zoom bar, accelerometer, etc.), but that's not going to extend very far beyond XDA.
Obviously what's needed is first-party support from MS, but given that WM development on MS' part has been in a coma for several years, the next line is the OEM, and HTC's support would be quite useful to build a collection of third-party apps that actually make some use of the device.
People talk about matching the iPhone-- sure, the HD2's hardware is impressive, but given its likely software state, it'll be miles away from the iPhone in actual usefulness. Why care about a digital compass, accelerometer, or multi-touch that won't work in any third-party apps?
Conclusion: since HTC HD2 is extremely expensive, maybe users should wait for Windows Mobile 7 phones where third party developers will be able to take advantage of multitouch and compass? Or maybe HTC should wake up and provide SDK for their Windows Mobile phones at last?
Note: according to leaked specifications of Windows Mobile 7, HTC HD2 will not (!) be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 7.[/QUOTE)
Maybe yes, we should wait.

i'm really thinking about it, but i think i will wait for the next device announcement.
i guess it will have a smaller screen (capacitive also, maybe 3.8?) with snapdragon 1ghz processor and QWERTY keyboard.
that's what i need
Yes - the Touch HD's poor processor is annoying me everyday. It can't even handle predictive text when sending an SMS in a timely fashion.
It was great at the time, but it's now time for the HD2.
i would skip because i already spent a fortune on hd so it should atleast last another year...
but the snapdragon and capacitive touchscreen really makes you drool
Thought about upgrading, but then it's a really expensive phone that only corrects the HD shortcoming (power, speed, camera, capacitive...)
I will wait for the next generation of devices, and an OLED screen before I upgrade. The next question for me will be to decide between Android v2.0 (it's now only starting to become a real alternative to winmo if the Exchange support is done correctly), and Windows Mobile 7.0
Frankly at the minute, from what I see of WinMo 7, I am not impressed at all...
I'm really tired of this crap phone.
it's been months since I still hope that someone releases a hardspl or that SE releases a stable and fast rom...
Now, I begin at look for other phone but i don't know choice
My criteria:
- I write a lot of sms, hard keyboard is mandatory
- Fast processor for to play correctly at emulators and must playable on hard keyboard (Morphgear, FpseCE,...)
- No big phone as HD2, I want it fits easily in pocket, and not too small either
- A good gps and camera/photo+flashlight. This is very important for my job.
- Sync contacts/calendar/tasks/notes with Microsoft Exchange on wifi and usb (I don't use 3G), Andoïd can do it that ?
- Possible to cook roms !
Do you know advise me what phone to choose?
I have the impression that the LG eXpo GW820 meets my criteria, but it is not available in my country.
Sorry for my bad english...
Thank you very much in advance.
i have the same, i choose stay with x2...
you can do some trick to make it faster...
after waiting for resurrection of x2... and waiting again, I have finally bought a htc pro2. It's bigger, yes, but it WORKS! I have made somersaults with it without any problem. I only regret I have lost many with x2.
@amk
I already done that, and my X2 hasn't slideview & crappy panels softwares.
After a lot of tweaks, this phone stays again unpleasant to use...
@vitc
It is good idea but I will not again spend money for a same CPU of 2008 year, because before I had htc s740 => 528 mhz, now X2 => 528 mhz.
I want a cpu more fast.
buy yourself a X10 1 Ghz of pure power and android
I think that isn't practical to write text messages on a touch screen (I'm writing approximately 25 sms per day)
Android knows sync with Exhange (on WiFi and usb)?
Man, you basically got the same requirements as I do and you also figured out LG eXpo fulfils the role, but it is not available (is it really sold somewhere?). I also want resistive screen, therefore no Android. As such I have nothing to choose from. HTC Touch Pro 2 has dated processor, terrible camera and lacks hardware buttons
I consider switching to Symbian, but it lacks the customization potential of WM. Maybe I'll wait what Symbian^3 has to offer, Nokia cameras are very good, so no compromise in this way. Nokia C6 will probably use only current Symbian 6/5, but it looks interesting never the less. Or wait for a MeeGo device.
@Biges
thx for your reply.
After reflection, I'll stay still long on WM.
I love WM, I love customize it.
Yes I'm picky
I'm following this forum in a probably futile hope that maybe, maybe SE just really flexes its muscles and fixes X2. Or someone hacks it for custom ROMs. But I doubt it. Got my eye on Acer M900, but it is very hard to find, not officially in Continental Europe and it is not produced anymore.

Yup, the Acer M900 is the best phone I ever used! I bought it last year and flashed Daskalos' Lite ROM (see my signature) as soon as it was released. You see, basically, everything I throw onto it (the applications I need), just runs! It is a WM6.1 phone, which, IMHO, is an advantage, since it is the last WM version to be fully customizable. Besides, I really don't care about fancy looks, at all. My focus is productivity!
Just my 2 cents...

M900= 128Mo RAM !

This is completely relative. In my case (you can see my actual screen in my Avatar) it is a non-issue. It has never run out of memory! Besides, I have absolute control over running applications (WkTask, pBar). With the Lite ROM, I usually have 55MB of RAM free.

Carlos

I'm happy for you.
But i think if i want to use SPB MS or Manila (no 2d) i can't, because they eat too much ram and M900 becomes unusable.

Yup, people's needs are quite different. If you plan to use memory hungry applications, like fancy UIs, then you might find 128MB to be too short, indeed.
Good luck in your search for your next "perfect" device!

Really? That's good to hear, I'll keep my eyes open on eBay and various second-hand sellers if I can get M900 in good condition for a decent price.

Yes, M900 has its flaws, but is there a perfect phone? No, there isn't
