i have loaded the program onto my xperia but am having a few problems. once i have loaded the demo then closed it down i can't open it again without turning my phone off then on. is this just a demo thing?
also does the program allow you to view more than one taf and metar at a time?
final question, does it allow you to store your regular tafs and metars or do you have to put in the icao designator each time?
looks a good program from the demo, shame it only lets me load the program once.
many thanks

I've discussed these issues with faarn via email already, but I thought I should make a little post here as well if anyone else is wondering or having the same problem!

This seems to be a problem on some devices because windows mobile does not kill the actual process when you close the application via the "X" in the top-right corner. Closing the application by using the "Exit" button supplied within the application, will close everything properly though, and there should be no problem restarting the application.

one handed usage ?

so I got my Jasjar and I'm pretty happy with it so far, however I keep looking at the Treo and wondering if it would be easier to check my mail and calendar with one hand instead of opening the Jasjar with two hands, waiting through the windows mobile slowdown, etc...
on a Treo you have the calendar button right on the face and you can navigate with the direction pad, etc...
the Jasjar it seems a little clumsy to me for this... any ex-Treo owners out there care to comment ?
Also, can we use the Jasjars direction pad for application shortcuts like that ? like press left for calendar, up for email, etc...
any thoughts and ideas ? thanks !
Bump...
is no one else concerned about this ?
Surprise me !
Don't know if buttonmax is compatible, but i think it's the only app that allows you to reconfigure the direction pad.
Re the calendar, just remap record key to calendar etc?
I use SmallMenuPlus, so can do pretty much everything one handed, although requires a couple of taps down to launch the app.

I'm using my ToggleStart and ToggleNew hacks (=ToggleToday) to remove the top and bottom bars and a custom colour theme using cetuner, then from top to bottom:
-PhoneAlarm (with a skin I made, here on the board somewhere)
-AlarmToday (I resource edited the dll to change its appearance, but it's not shown here)
-WeatherPanel
-VJTodaySpacer (unreleased spacer plugin, coming soon!)
-VJEphemeris
VJEphemeris is not tidied up yet: this is my old setup
VJEphemeris was written to replace VJAudioNotes(at the top), QOTD (in the middle) and claunch (at the bottom), so I didn't want it to take more space. Eventually it will take the whole screen and be spread out more.
Quoting from here
I've posted a little elsewhere about my plugin, VJEphemeris, which is a long term work in progress.
Thus far it contains an analog clock, date with popup calendar, alarm clock setting and notification (cus you don't bloody know when it's set and on!), Quote of the day, autosizing according to length, missed call notification, last sms details, temperature, volume control, battery status, current phone operator (for dual sims), multi-bank launcher facility and theft protection (detects if user is using a non authorised SIM, and then sms's me with the phone number (and shortly, cellid), permitting me to sms it back causing it to format the sd, optional hard reset and I'm considering optional bricking - thanks Olipro).
That's the basic version I use currently. I've got tonnes to add when I finish a bit more stuff for release for you lot!
VJEphemeris is a continuous test bed of ideas I'm trying to implement. It's unlikely to be released, or at least as is. It's currently entirely customised around my use (although it's all too damn skinnable: I haven't gone into designing a UI yet, I'm just making it easy to use one thumbed! Try cutting out the screenshot and see how you thumb rests naturally on the important stuff. I'm trying to make it nicely ergonomic).

francorg: I released a prerelease of VJAudioNotes to a few people, but it's been replaced by VJEphemeris. I'm not really releasing either for quite a while (if ever!). Too much to add to it to finish it right now, it's a continuous Work In Progress.

Sounds good, I'll take a look at some of those! Thankss!

For those too posh to push:
Do you like chatting with people you don’t know? Do you want to be able easily share multimedia files with your friends? Do you hate the cost of MMS? Well now you can do it all via BlueTooth ? Find your target, take aim and let Sniper do the rest! Sniper is a MoSoSo (Mobile Social Software) application designed to operate using BlueTooth. Using Sniper you can send/receive and reply to text messages from other BlueTooth equipped phones (including non Windows Mobile devices such as Nokias and Sony-Ericssons). Sniper also contains a BlueTooth scanner which will locate discoverable BlueTooth devices in your vicinity to start socializing with. Sniper will also allow you to transfer files between devices as well as messages. With just a few clicks you can designate folders (on the storage card if you wish) for Music, pictures or any kind of file. Sniper is skinnable and comes with a range of cool skins. More skins may be easily added. Sniper also includes a Bluejacking feature which means you can send files or messages to all devices within range at the same time. A useful feature for sending out Business cards at meetings! Since BlueTooth is short range 10-12 meters and does not use a Wireless carriers data network, all this messaging and data transfer is FREE

Name just one?
Sniper is not just a BlueTooth manager.
With it you can
1. Send/receive messages and have an inbox
2. Allows the use of preprepared msg templates and you can create your own new ones at the touch of a button.
3. Send/receive files (to your storage card if you wish) and specify default folders for different incoming file types
4. Store often used addresses in address book with friendly names
5. Scan for all devices in Range
6. Sniper, will on request, BlueJack all devices in range with a file or msg until you tell it to stop.
7. Talk to any other BlueTooth device, doesn't have to be windows mobile.
This is just a sample of what it does and it's less than a fiver
So, what is the better freeware alternative???

MAIN
instant Gforce measure for:
Acceleration/brake (brake is negative)
left/right (left is negative)
Up/Down(up is negative)
Total (always positive)
Speed
GPS
Gps Stats
On/Off
0-...
Test your time from 0 to whatever you chose
(it uses gforce to start the timer)
MAX
Max Values (i know it needs work)
LOG
Chose what you want to log
Log Size
OPTIONS
Set update speed 50 - 1000ms
Use Km over miles per hour
Use Speed in Acc/Brake over Gforce in Main
http://rjsmsampaio.googlepages.com/grafico.jpg
You can get the gflog.txt in you main memory and open in excel
To clean the log just delete it.
X is left/right
y is acc/brake
z is up/down
t is total
Speed
Altitude
Heading
(all this are obvious)
the GFmax is store in gfmax.txt created in main memory.
How to use it correctly:
the pda must be in portrait whit the screen facing the back of the car. When you open the program it will self calibrate(this don't mean you don't need to have your acc calibrated whit other program).
It should read 0.00 whit the car stop in a level area. You can Turn or incline the PDA a little and calibrate again but it will affect the reading if too much off center.
This is the Beta version so post some feedback, im a full time teacher so updates will be constant but not every day

Nice one, thanks.
Will have a try.
I've been waiting for this program since Ikari has promised to write... Thanks Ikari... will feedback...
How do you calculate "total"? Judging from the top picture Id say you use
acc + curve = total
which is wrong. Use
total = sqrt(acc^2 + curve^2) instead
Otherwise it looks very nice!
You did get your help! Wonderfull, will download it and have a drive in my car, nice !

As for the rest drive carefully
Why don't you integrate the output signal with respect to time and write also the velocity of device? By this way we can also see the current velocity or also write further 0-100km acceleration values....

But you cant just add perpendicular forces since a force is a vector. Break/acc acts straight forward (backwards is "-forward") while curve acts straight right (again, left is "-right"). Draw 2 arrows on a paper, one for acc and one for curve. Then draw the resulting vector. To find the length (in this case the magnitude, or what you call total) use the Pythagorean theorem
total = sqrt(acc^2 + curve^2)

That's the idea. Adding them is just incorrect. Cause velocity is a vector, it can be expressed as its moduli times a unitary vector. Taking the derivative with respect to time we will find two sources of acceleration: the one caused by change in time of the modulus (acc) and the one due to the change in direction of the unitary vector (curve). As the derivative of a vector is indeed a vector, you should calculate its modulus. Therefore the total should be what haggz said.
Your app works pretty nice despite that. I have liked it a lot. A way to fix this issue is to display both accelerations separately and then if you like to add them just like numbers at least we will be a little bit more pleased . Anyway congratulations for your great work. Keep it like that !!!
Great for science projects. Great work
I don't know how fast you can read out the sensors. But a great application would be a Time/Acceleration Diagram.
Currently we are measuring oscillations of huge masses.
Would be cool if i could monitor oscillations up to 150Hz.
Great Work!!!
....a quick Example with some text windows:
Looks very nice, but I think a GUI with high contrasts would be better to read while driving.

download and install .NET Compact Framework 3.5 on your pda and it will work.
One more day and i will release a new version whit DB for the maximum values.
About a graphical interface im not sure how to make one cuz we have 3 axis to display plus the Total so im putting that to the side.
If any one have more ideas for this, new options, features or feedback, plz post.
My car is damage so i cant test everything correctly so make your contributing
Atm im working in a way to measure peek HP and making a time diagram that can be visualize on excel.

I read somewhere, but can't remember where, that default the accelerator readings are performed every 200 milliseconds, which would mean that you have a max of 5 Hz. It is possible to change the value in the registry by using a program that "tweaks" it, but I don't know what it would mean for the battery life.
Maybe your program could set the readings faster while it is running, but I don't have a clue how you would have to do it.
Never the less, 150 Hz might be a bit too fast for WM6.1, even with a fast processor ?

[2008/10/28 v0.5.1] G-Watch (Stop watch & Countdown timer with GPS support)

Hello again!
It's time for a new tool: G-Watch!
G-Watch is a stop watch and a countdown timer with all features you'll expect of a stopwatch.
As an additional feature I provide GPS support. You can (you don't have to!!) use your GPS device to monitor your training session.
You can export your sessions to CVS (e.g. for Excel), KML or GPX (e.g. for Google Earth)

And another awesome ageye production.
This is the only thing I've missed on my Omnia. Now I got a complete phone.
Thanks mate for the great and useful program. I hope it'll be so successful and innovative like G-Alarm.
good stuff!
couple suggestions:
1. can you make the start/stop and split buttons bigger?
2. a short vibrate or tone when start/stop button is pressed.
3. ability to turn off the screen to save battery.
It would be perfect for me if you can combine the good points of GpsCycleComputer and StopWatch. (you can find these two apps under Diamond forum)
many thanks for this !
Great soft, google maps to view result is great too
I would welcome another button which would stop and restart, or maybe just a restart button, starting the timer again from the current time.
Will this eventually be able to set split intervals in GPS mode. For example, I am going to run 6 miles and I want to know my 1 mile split times, will this eventually have a setting to manually set the split interval for every 1 mile in GPS Mode?

Sounds good. I've messed around with it a little, it definitely has great potential. Thank you for the development and look forward to future releases.
Many many thanks once again for developing an application I can really use and was looking for.
I just managed to catch your post before I went off for the day on my bicycle. I installed it, mounted it on the bike and took it with me on a 24km/15 mile trip. This is what I found:-
1. The speed reading is not working with GPS option enabled. Altitude is working and longitude/latitude.
2. Using it the first time the device went to sleep as per the system settings - 5 mins on battery power. When I woke it up straight away the timer had stopped. If I left it for say 10/15 mins asleep and then woke it up the timer was still running.
The second time I used it on the way back home the device did not go to sleep but the screen dimmed. I could then wake it up by touching the screen which was actually better than pressing the power button and maybe useful for saving battery power? Not sure why it behaved differently on second use.
3. On a bicycle it is difficult to see the information being given as the text is too small. Needs to be as big and bold as the time at the top of the page really.
Suggestions:-
1. Larger start/split buttons and larger text for info given as above.
2. Battery status - to check gps drain on battery.
3. More GPS info which is on your to do list I know - average speed/max speed etc...
4. Option for Miles Per Hour or Km/h. Not sure if that is what the left hand side reading is or not as the speed did not work - if it is maybe it should say mph instead of m.
5. Not essential but useful for me personally - a running log text file where the info can be copied/imported into a spreadsheet to keep a record of exercise done for the week/month. I know this is sort of on your to do list as well.
Hope that helps for now. Look forward to testing the next version.

I see what you mean and so quick!
I have not been out with it but there is definitely some speed showing now. It takes longer to get a fix on the GPS - the last version was super quick. A price to pay for the improvements I guess.
Would really like the speed to be more visible with a bigger bold font and I notice the lap time column in bold is not fitting into it's box - some figures at beginning and end not showing fully.
Will take it out and about tomorrow morning.
Great stuff indeed!

The New Sensors in the SGS4

Okay, so from what I hear, the new S4 is going to include sensors to measure ambient temperature, pressure and humidity.
I hope I have this right, because I think this is AWESOME! As an electrical gadget design engineer, I know that there are only a handful of sensors out there -- thousands of different sensors yes, but only a few dozen things that can be measured.
Well, what I love about the smartphone and the Android dev scene is that so many awesome applications have been invented in only a the last few years just because of the synergy of sensors in these new mobile computers that were never seen in personal computers up until the smartphone.
Example apps like Google Sky or a dynamometer because of a gps and accelerometer, or Google Latitude because of the networked GPS receiver.
Or how about traffic overlay on Google maps? This kind of traffic reporting accuracy wasn't possible before without a LOT of very expensive equipment permanently installed in large cities. But now it is virtually FREE and more accurate because someone realized that an update to Google Maps would include sending positione/time data back to central servers to monitor every client device on the road to see how well the traffic is moving.
Well, today I am thinking about the weather. I like to use weather apps, to check the forecast, but I think it is funny that some would use the app to see realtime weather in their area when they can just look outside (lol). But seriously, weather forecasting is a very complex science, and it takes a LOT of sensing equipment to get better data and better results. But now we will have phones EVERYWHERE that can detect three weather metrics with the kind of resolution never seen before. Imagine the increase of real time accuracy that might be achieved if google maps used these data metrics for weather overlays like they use position data for traffic overlays.
just some thoughts...
So what other killer apps might come our way if these new three sensors become commonplace in all future phones?
What other sensors would be a good idea? why?
This is a solid point about accumulating data. I do wonder how accurate the sensors are, though. For one thing they're taken only at the ground level, and then you have to account for the heat that builds up while holding it and web browsing/playing games, and then there's the issue of space as often times the phone will sit in your pocket or bag. Still, given enough people using them it could give something measurable. SETI certainly is making use of the great processors in phones to gather Scientific information regarding the Universe.
As for Apps, no idea. I mean, they managed to take the magnetic sensor in phones and make a metal detector out of it, so one can only imagine what can be done with the Humidity/Thermometer in other applications.
The only new sensor is the hygrometer. Barometers have been in phones since the Galaxy Nexus. Temperature sensors have always been in the phone, it's just that they measure battery/SoC temps, not ambient air temps.
Ya it will be interesting to see how data is dealt with, given that so many phones will be in pockets and purses, which to some degree is discoverable via proximity sensor. Other surroundings and vehicles that move the phones will be a challenge. GPS might give hints that it is in a car. Hot dashboard? light sensor. Air conditioner? hmmmm . Ya its all pretty tricky.
But it is amazing these days what can be sensed with a simple sensor. Like, keyboard keystroke capturing is being done via a phone sitting on a desk close to a keyboard, using the phones microphone and accelerometer. Yep! word capture eavesdropping to a pretty surprisingly high degree of accuracy!
The extra temp sensor in the S4 will be ambient right?
maybe one to detect bombs/radioactive/chemicals

Hey cool image!!! 9 sensors listed.
They left out he GPS, camera, and microphone!
That's 12 sensors. Any others?
