pomod - Mod player for PocketPC - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

NOTE This does not belong to me I found it and wanted to share it so enjoy
pomod - Mod player for PocketPC
-------------------------------
v.0.7.6
pomod ?!?
---------
- pomod is music player for PocketPC.
- pomod is based on the fmod libraries [www.fmod.org].
- pomod is free.
- pomod can reproduce these file formats: MP3, OGG, WAV, MOD, IT, XM and S3M.
Requeriments:
-------------
- A PPC with Windows Mobile 2002/2003/2005 or Windows CE (not tested yet).
- .NET Compact framework libraries installed (by default on WM2003 and up)
Installation
------------
- pomod does not require any special installation:
1- Choose your package according your processor type (ARM, MIPS or SH3)
2- Unpack the zip file
3- Copy the two files of the program (pomod.exe and fmodce.dll) in any folder you want
4- Execute pomod.exe!!
Usage
-----
- Play, stop, add file, save list... is really necessary to explain this?
- You can save the config of the program, it is always stored in a file called "conf.xml", the file is automatically read when program starts and should be stored on the same folder than pomod.exe is.
- pomod can save the playlist when closing and retrieve it when the application starts automatically. It can be configured through 'config' menu.
Can I help?
-----------
- Of course my friend!!! I need new ideas, beta-testers, and much more!!
- Take a look on google code project: http://code.google.com/p/pomod

Known bugs
----------
- If pocket pc is suspended while pomod is running, usually next song played causes a program crash, you are advised!!
- As far as I know, it does not run on smartphones.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Enjoy it!!

I always like to check out new music players; however, if this one always crashes when playing while PPC is suspended, it is of no use to me. It kind of looks a little like Winamp which is cool to me - Is it skinnable. Once some of the bugs are worked out, I will probably try it out, but not as is. I already have S2P, WMP, Audio Manager, TCPMP and Mort Player on my device all which work really nice.

interesting.. i am using gsplayer with plugins for amymusic, tcpmp with SAP plugin for atari xl/xe music, need to check that one..
S2P, WMP, Audio Manager - sucks.

Ring Tone & Video Problems

Hi,
I can't play MP3's as ringing tone. Also can't play MPEG & AVI within Windows Media Player. Could someone please help. I have only recently purchased my XDA, so any pointers would be muchly appreciated.
I have updated to the new rom version 172181 and still have this problem.
Could someone please advise.
Many thanks.
Steve.
Windows Media Player doesn't support AVI and Mpeg formats on Pocket Pc devices.
To play mpeg formats you need PocketTv or others programs.
To play AVI files you need a BetaPlayer or Simply install Album Program from XDA2.
Also,You can't play Mp3's as ringtone because you need to convert first them to Wav files or Midi..To convert use any Wav-Mp3 Converter on i-net.
Good Luck!
Im currently looking into and seriously considering writing a program that allows more formats of music/sound to be used as ringtones, i quite like the sound of MMF and MOD files and i think they wud sound cool as ringtones. I hear that windows mobile uses VOIP to handle incoming calls so im hoping that the API is accessible and i will be able to write a program which "monitors" phone activity and will intercept incoming calls etc. If anyone has any knowledge on this that they are willing to share please do so
Marc
yeah that would be usefull of cause most people just use converter programs on the pc to make all those formats into wma and use them that way
because it would require some programming to play the good old mod formats because you need the sample file aswell to play the patteren of the mods
True, there are some pocket pc MOD Dlls though that i could perhaps make use of, they may not be freeware but a lot of applications distribute fmodce.dll so i could just make use of that if it were present on the users device. Id also like to see the midi mapper on the xda changed as well coz in my opinion its pretty crap!
Marc
Download the Lemmings Clone from Jacko Biker.
It contains full source code - that does also include a MOD Player LIB.
( eVC 3 and 4 compatible )
That is a good starting point to improve this LIB ( However, it works already very good and stable )
Cheers,
Scorpion
ok, ill take a look at it sometime today. is there any requests for what people would want in my app so i can put it into the design?

If you try are looking for lemmings you'll find it has vanished from nearly everywhere, apparently thanks to SONY contacting the site owners to have it removed.
http://www.professor-oak.com/lemmings/
Anyway, I found a chinese site which still has it. If that happens to vanish, I've got a copy if anyone needs it. (FYI It's not brilliant - seems to have no volume control and exiting requires a soft boot).

TCPMP plugin for Flash video v0.4 released

It looks like a new version of the flash video (.flv) plugin for TCPMP was just recently released.
For those not in the know, it's a plugin designed to work with the great freeware media player TCPMP, that lets you play flash video files.
It is designed for Pocket PC 2003, Windows Mobile 5.0 and higher. The plugin will never support the commercial successor to TCPMP CorePlayer (licensing issues).
This version allows you to play flv files directly over the internet via the site http://www.mobytube.net/ which lets your search and play YouTube and Google Video files via a mobile browser such as Pocket Internet Explorer.
I tried it out and it works great.
1.) For ease of use you should make sure TCPMP is associated with .m3u files.
2.) Then just visit http://www.mobytube.net/ with Pocket Internet Explorer (or Opera Mobile or other web browser that lets you download/launch files).
3.) Search for a video, once you find one you want to play, click on the video to download/launch the .m3u in TCPMP.
4.) Depending on your settings in TCPMP you might have to click the play button to start streaming the video.
wow, thanks for full info. i used prev versions, and it is very good thing.
btw, works fine in 0.81.
How do you install this on a Mogul/PPC-6800/WM6 and which one do I download?
You should first have TCPMP installed, download the Windows Mobile version from here:
http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/
Also, download/install any additional plugins you would like, though they're not required for playing back the flash videos.
Then download tcpmpflvplugin-v0.4.zip from here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=196939&package_id=232906
Unzip and copy the files in inside the zip file into the folder (not in a subfolder under it) where you have TCPMP install on your PDA (on my device this folder is located in \Program Files\TCPMP).
Make sure TCPMP is associated with .m3u files by :
1.) Starting TCPMP
2.) Taping on the "Options" menu item
3.) Choosing the "Settings" menu item
4.) Tapping on the "Select Page" button (lower right)
5.) Selecting the "File Associations" menu item.
6.) Selecting/Checking "M3U playlist files (M3U)" from the list.
7.) And then finally tapping the "OK" button.
The plugin is corrupt
*edit* for some reason FireFox was downloading it incorrectly.
thanks for the heads up - 0.3 always worked well but went and upgrade to 0.4 anyway. cheers.

Is that Coreplayer 0.81 or is there a TCPMP 0.81? Latest TCPMP I found is 0.72RC
New release: tcpmpflvplugin-v0.4.2
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=196939
This plugin is just brilliant.
Warning : it COULD eventually induce a slight addictive usage of your PPC.
Great development, but only works for mobytube.net and .m3u files.
Can't play directly from youtube.
I'd love for this plugin to be made compatible with smartphones 2003SE (with TCPMP).
Can't understand why WM2003SE arn't supported?

CEAudioPlayer - A Simple MP3 Player

Folks,
I have created a small MP3 playing application that I wanted to publish to the world. Key features are
- Native C code. No dependencies on .NET
- Tiny (just 37Kb, plus 440Kb of FMOD library. I can remove the FMOD library, but most GPSs dont have windows media player installed by default to handle MP3)
- Extremely skinnable, almost everything is configurable
I have tested this on my GPS (CE 4.2) and PDA (Hermes) and it works quite well.
Configuration
CEAudioPlayer saves its configuration in CEAudioPlayer.cfg in the same folder as the exe. This file contains the last open folder (to play the songs) and the name of the skin.
Skins
There are 3 sample skins attached in the archive. Im not good in graphics, so I would really appreciate people chipping in with their skins. In the absence of any skin, the application uses a spartan layout. Refer to Skin.txt for information on how to create skins
Startup
- On startup CEAudioPlayer looks for any MP3 files in the program's folder. Else it prompts you to select a folder. Once selected the config file is created and subsequent runs, it will automatically pickup that folder
ToDo
- Use minimal FMOD to handle only MP3 (current library can handle tons of formats)
- Use alternate library to play MP3 or compile with native MP3 processing code
- Equalizer
- Spectrum analyzer. Actually, I did implement it, was too slow on my GPS to be usable.
- Playlists
- Better navigation by Artist, Album etc.
Known Issues
- CEAudioPlayer uses FMOD sound system DLL to play the MP3. FMOD does not return the correct duration for VBR encoded files (it can, but that would slow down the loading)
- CEAudioPlayer is built for ARM CPUs only. I can build for other CPUs but dont have a device handy
Looking forward to your comments.
Version history
- v0.67 (3/26/2008)
First public release
does support avcrp?
any pics or previews so we can see what the program looks like?

The UI is completely skin driven. The zip file includes 1 skin (various resolutions and orientations). Sample is here
hi, great article. thanks for the opportunity to learn even more.
Most today's GPS are 800x480 units. Can you provide an according skin?

Simplifymedia like streaming Software

Hi all,
I'm looking for a software like simplifymedia for Iphone. That means that I'm looking for a software that permit to listen to music which is stored in my personal computer. It would be great to be able to watch the video too but music is more important.
Somebody has a solution?
No response
I will respond to myself. I found Orb, but the client is a site to be used with IE, and is not very user-friendly. A dedicated application would be better.
Anybody know an other solution?
use Orb with Kinoma... awesome combo!
Kinoma how to start to use it
I downloaded the Kinoma Freeplay (do I need the full version : Kinoma play), I've installed it, and I lunch it, it ask for a product registration. I was thinking that the Freeplay version was free?
What I need to do?
Thanks
Simplify Media?
The closest thing to Simplify Media I've found is didiom for windows mobile or blackberry. didiom.com for more info
Just install Network plugins 1.0
Link http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-network-folder-plugin-v1-0.html
Then Map your music folder under Start-> Settings -> connections -> Network plugin
The maped folder will be in something like \network\"Computer Name"\"Music Folder"\
I use Core Player to stream the music
