Cell phone activity detector - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

Hello.
(sorry for my english)
I'm looking for a software that can detect the activity of other mobile phones near the mine (HTC Diamond).
I want to see if people use their phone in a place where it is totaly forbidden for security reasons. (exams for exemple)
Thank you in advance.
(no wifi and bluetooth ... SMS and Vocal )

...we won't tell you -> you are a teacher ;-)
Just kidding; I don't know such a software or tool

and ... no, i am not a teacher, and not a cop too

This sort of software is hard if not impossible if not illegal to make with the tools at our disposal.

I would contact the KGB, they may have something of that nature.

It wasn't us, as the director I never signed for such a thing... MI5?

So you would be the first to use it in the "forbidden place" to snoop on others? Funny request, but surely for someone who needs to know this kind of info "for security reasons" would be able to afford a good programmer to do such a program.

i have wrote "security reasons" because my english is very light, and it's more easy to say that for me.
So... no we dont have good programmer, and we dont have unlimited money for pourchase one.
i know many wifi-snifer, blutooth snifer ... so i try to find a "gsm" detector ...
i know that some cell phone can make vocal transmission without provider, si they are in the same aera.
if you want to joke about my request, you can ...
i just try to find a solution to a (small) problem we have with my work : people using phone in forbidden place.
good luck with fbi, mi5 and cia.

Now i dont think that it is possible, but i dont understand why people find this request so funny?
There are plenty of tools that measure radiation. The radiation of a phone in use should be much higher than one not in use or one using bluetooth. Not sure about wifi though...
Anyway, to have this type of measurement in the phone is maybe hard/impossible to develop given the way phones are built. But the idea of something measuring radiation is nothing new and these devices can be bought at many places (most for corporate or media usage). Now if you could just set the frequecy to monitor and a specified minimum threshold you should be there
But as previously mentioned... dont know if this is actually possible to do with a phone.

while this is very possible depending on the extent of the intend program this could be VERY illegal considering that the US goverment(idk about laws in other countries) got in trouble for monitoring phone calls.
If the program was meant to only detect GSM activity it is probable possible but at the same time there would be no accurate way to determine if the active phone was in your room or down the hall unless you knew which phone was where and what its info was. But in doing that im pretty sure you have already breakin a few laws lol.
If you are worried about phone activity im fairly positive there are phone jammers which block phone calls for a certain distance around the device. Though i do not know the laws around this.

I don't know how you'd do it with the phone...but there are DIY circuits that you can find online to make one with a 555 timer chip and a few resistors and capacitors. I did the same thing as a final project for an electronics class I took last year.
Just google "Cell Phone Call Detector circuit". It lights up an LED when it detects a call.

hello!
i don't know of a program to use with your phone, but i did a quick search on the net and found this for example: http://www.globalgadgetuk.com/detector.htm
maybe that can help you?

Here is your solution:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4355
and here is one for GPS:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.8758

try to use a big speaker so you can hear if somebody uses the telephone

Well...
this is not really the thing you need.
Proof of GSM usage around you cannot be provided to 3rd party (your device). The reason is hidden in the GSM1.1 standard.
To monitor the activity of the radio devices surrounding you you should need to download statistics from the closest BTS units which is actually hard enough and the Diamond's CPU is not able to break the provider encryption in realtime (trust me. i've tried it hard enough
Back in the days we faced similar problem. From the other side, I was the student
The principal of our high school designed an emitter of 900/1800MHz signal and had it equipped with a clocking device. For that reason we could not use our cell phones during class... for two days (yeah, nothing is impossible!)
The question you should ask is. Do I want to monitor cellular activity or I need to ban the usage of mobile devices in the range of XY meters around me.
If the answer of the second question is positive jut get a pal of yours who knows something about solidering and within a few dolars you have the item you need.

Just how smart is the Big Brother in XDA?

For all those who are mildly paranoid about being monitored how much do we really know about the following: The XDA2 changes hands, is the original owner's info still linked to it; the XDA2 is barred, when using it as a PDA does it still send out signals? if so, can these signals be located? can the XDA2 be used to surf without a sim card, if so, are the signals posted to anyone? Can the XDA2 be unbarred? If it can be, is it hardwired to retain its original ID? Does all this sound like the Matrix ... well it may well be!

When the radio is switched on the xda sends the imei whether a sim is in place or not, the information of a previous owner is lost once a hard reset is carried out, however some people think that by unclicking permanant save, that the data is lost, well that isnt true because if the next owner switches it back on and you were using the feature before, he will have access to all your data, the only way I found was to delete all contacts, check permanent save, reboot then uncheck it. There is no way known at the moment that is public knowledge that allows you to manipulate imei on xda2. I understand that there are calls from the uk government to have all imei numbers in hardware rather than firmware/software to make it almost impossible to change identity. Just because you are paranoid doesnt mean they arent out to get you.
Thank you you seem to be THE authority on XDA! You say ""When the radio is switched on the xda sends the imei whether a sim is in place or not"" I am not sure I understand the concept of 'radio' in the xda2. can the radio be switched off/disabled? what signals are sent and how are these managed, by whom? because there is now billing requirement why should this radio signal be monitored? It has been also said that "Paranoia is the belief in a hidden order behind the visible." anon (why do u think he chose to remain anon?)
 All cellular phones are beacons :!:
If you suspect they are listening, well, they are and all you can do is to make a little harder, thus:

It is not paranoia when they are really after you 8)
I want whatever you are smoking man!
Wish I was smoking something man! Maybe some food poisoning from bad lumpia :?
I was in a security presentation and saw how a secuirty engineer from Motorola was able to pinpoint and triangulate 17 different phones in an auditorium and then go down to each unit and "clone" it for surveillance purposes with a GUI application in his laptop. ( With the users permission for the purpose of the demo!)
If they are showcasing this technology, then I guarantee Big Brother
( NSA and NRO specifically) have the capability in a more advanced form and blend it with Exchelon, key word analysis and the like....
have a look at www.followus.co.uk its excellent we use it to track the kids, ( the more cell sites close by the better the fix) its show us they are at near by to where ever they say they are
Yes, I am aware of that service.
It is a good thing for parents and businesses and is not infringing on privacy because it is consentual and voluntary.
It amazes me to see how many peope think cell phones are not easy to trace or tap because they are mobile!
Having started this thread, I was begining to think no-one cared!
Is it worth pulling together all the intelligence on remote monitoring in one place? The benefit of this will be to know what currently done and if it is at all possible tweak the systems to ensure a modicum of privacy.
There is all sorts of legislation protecting privacy and some ensuring civil liberties. What are the implications of mobile phone contracts, for instance? Do they have a duty of care to protect our privacy is there anything in the contracts that limit their liability in this regard, and if so, why?
oh ... and I don't smoke but I'm told that I don't need to!

Bluetooth Ranged Pair Finder

Hey there Developers...
I would like to ask if any of you guys know of a PPC applications that can calculate how near or far a Bluetooth pair is.
Tell me its cheesy but let me give you an example:
My sister and I do groceries and we split ways. The Hypermarket is huge and we split ways, she makes her way to the veggies, I make my way to the booze section. After sometimes she is gone and I need to give her a call. So I need a way to find her using my PPC through ranged BT "pinging" to indicate if she is near by or not. Is there a software or is there anyway that this can be developed?
What if your sister has her phone in her pocket/bag? Then the ping won't be accurate, since it'll take more time to discover her. :?

if i was at the booze section... i wouldn't want to find my sister!
hehe
[email protected] Wroet.
Anyways, I was just thinking if it would be possible. I mean basically I was thinking how the PPC would determine the distance between the 10m radius and also to which direction. But if it is possible... The it be a great tool.

has n e 1 got ne new wep tools

has any one got any new wep cracking tools they would care to share or any bluesnafing/bluejacking tools
Do0d, it is very bad form to be asking for blatantly illegal things in public forum...
Concur
I concur.
Try Google please.
why would you say its illegal there are plenty of reasons for needing such programs eg you have just got a router of ebay it has the wep enabled wouldnt you need a wep cracker to get the key????
bluesnafing tools i have two phones one just for sms but i left it upstairs (am lazy by the way) i have my main phone with all the time i could use the tool to get my sms from the phone upstairs
i wouldnt dream of doing any thing illegal with them unless hacking my own phone and network is illegal
So please people dont be so quick to jump the gun
Well I'm glad to hear you have honorable intentions (and I assumed nothing), I still believe the tools you're asking for are designed explicitly for nefarious/illegal purposes:
- if you bought a router on eBay, why not ask the previous owner what the admin password was and/or perform a hard reset? Hacking the WEP key on your own device might be a legal gray area, but the technology required to do so is designed to break into secured environments (and definitely illegal).
- while it may be convenient for you to access your wife's phone via bluejacking (and yes, that may be a legal gray area), the spirit and intent of bluejacking is certainly illegal and designed for stealing bluetooth datastreams and/or voice conversations.
By the way, there is certainly work elsewhere on this site (such as hacking WM5 onto devices like the BA) which is clearly a violation of license agreements and illegal and certainly not condoned/supported by me, so don't think you're being singled out...
Bottom line: regardless of good intentions, please help keep the Hermes board out of trouble by keeping illegal content out of the discussions...
Cheers
ok fair comment sorry for the inconvenance
I don't think this tools are illegal... have seen worst things here (changing imei's for example). I work on a wireless company and we use tools like those for research, penetration testing and hardening of the networks we deploy.
Back to the original question, here's my answer:
1) For bluesnarfing and bluejacking I use btCrawler:
http://www.silentservices.de/btCrawler.html
You need to create this registry key for it to work:
\HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Mode\"ISC"=1(DWORD)
2) WEP cracking with a pocket pc is a loose of time, search for "retina wifi scanner for PocketPC", it is able of doing it but will take ages to complete the process, I suggest to use aircrack-ng on a laptop with linux
hi pof. i dont know retina wifu scanner can crack wep.
thanks for the info. i search the whole internet n realise that it no longer can be downloaded. do u have a copy of it? can pm me? thanks.
Here you can download it: RetinaWiFiPoc.exe
when i execute retina wifi scanner on my dopod838pro. it said can not load device driver. if the wireless configuration utility is running, please shut it down. i already soft reset still cannot. any advice. did you try to run it on 838pro, i mean, hermes?
No, I used it some time ago with my old blueangel in wm2003, not sure if it is compatible with newer devices and I think retina discontinued the product.
yer i have already got both them progs bt is exallent but i get the same error as above with retina
but thank you very much for the reply
There is a windows version of crackair-ng, at the same place as the linux version, not sure if it's anygood though.
yer thanks i have that as well i was mainly looking for a pocket ver but it looks like ill just have to wait am sure some one will bring one out soon

GPS on planes using your Touch HD

I've searched for details on this on XDA and come up short on info specifically for the Touch HD so i'm asking my questions in here. I'm off to Italy in April and i'm a sad individual who is interested in using the in-built gps of the Touch HD on my Easyjet flight to get details of airspeed, position, etc.
As not all planes have the monitor showing all this info in the headrest, I'm hoping someone on the forums can answer a few of my queries. Obviously phone use is prohibited.
-Does the Touch HD GPS transmit any information?
I've read that most GPS devices only receive, but I want to be sure, as I also read that some chipsets transmit too.
-Putting the device into flight-mode appears to switch off all tranmissions while allowing the GPS to function.
While it "appears" to turn them all off, is it possible to still be transmitting data and the icons are incorrectly reporting everything off while in this mode?
As with all the ridiculous overkill with people pouncing on anyone who even twitches during a flight or does anything "odd", I've sent off an e-mail asking Easyjet for the definitive answer on GPS use while in-flight, so i'll post the reply when I get it.
Thanks to anyone who can enlighten me on this subject.
EDIT: Easyjet's response to my query:
Thank you for contacting us.
I would like to sincerely apologize for the long delay in responding to your e-mail. As we are receiving high volume of e-mails because of the disruption, therefore we are unable to answer your queries on time. However, I can assure you that this is not of our usual standard.
I understand your concern and would like to inform you that any electronic equipment is not allowed to be operated on board as they might create interference in transmission signals send from the aircraft.
Therefore, its always advisable not to operate any such devices on board.
I do hope I have been able to answer your question fully, if I have not, please click here and we will be more than happy to assist you further.
Yours sincerely,

I dont think it will even work. In a car, you need to position it so that it has sight of the sky through the windscreen so that it can triangulate its position based upon the info it recieves from at least 3 satelites. I'd be very suprised if you coudl connect to 3 satelites through the plane window.

Well I get good satellite locks in buildings easily. You don't need space directly overhead to get locks. The HD has a very good gps.
I've read that many people have done it easily on planes with other phones just by sitting in window seats, so know it's physically possible to do so. Obviously the faraday cage effect will affect it, dependant on the materials used to build the plane.
I was on a flight to Greece recently on an A330, while in flight mode i opened iGO8 and
in my surprise after 10-15 minutes it got a lock and was working really well!
then i opened Google maps (i had cached the maps before flight) and that was working really well too!
On the way back i wasn't able to get a lock.. it was connecting to 1 or 2 sattelites only..
EDIT: to define.. i had window seat. It connected to 5-6 sattelites but it was able to show me correct info about height, speed, location etc
im not sure if the use of GPS in flight is prohibited.. that would be great to know!
Just ask the flight crew
As to whether you are allowed to use GPS receivers on board, it is at the discression of the pilot on the day. However, this list may be of use as to the general airline policy.

Thanks for the replies folks. I've already seen that list but cheers anyway. There are revisions to their rules almost daily. I'm still wanting to know mainly if the Touch HD chipset is just the receive type and the architecture side of it now, as I already know that most gps devices are able to function on a plane. Sirf III is apparently a receive only chipset. Does the Touch HD have this or another type?
Unfortunately when you ask the flight crew anything slightly technical and due to the "nature of the world we live in today" (to coin a crap phrase) they apparently aren't allowed to ask these types of questions with the pilot in flight. No idea why not, so most the time they just tell you to put it away. That's why I'm trying to find out before I get on the plane.
Why don't you just turn your GPS on and as the pjane is doing its impression of the 'Vomit Comet' into the Atlantic, reply to this thread with your findings...

Because there's no onboard Wifi or phone signals. I'll try spell out something using floating corpses, just for you though.
Your GPS doesn't transmit anything, ever - you're not allowed to transmit on the GPS frequencies. A differential GPS unit can use a second radio antenna to converse with its sister station, but nobody yet makes a phone with diffGPS.
Important to read this thread though:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=449056
as the "flight mode" doesn't actually work the way it says it does.

Well I got a response from Easyjet (posted in my 1st message), and as I suspected, it didn't really answer my question. Oh well, I guess I'll ask when I get on the plane.

Disable cell radio?

I'd like to know what would happen if I took a dremel tool and drilled a hole into my cell radio chip. Very carefully so that I didn't damage anything else. With the exception of the phone not being able to connect to the cell network, would the phone still work as normal??
I'm not doing anything illegal but I'm old and I still believe in the constitution and the right to privacy. And since I cannot depend on my government to do the right thing I would like to see what I can do to ensure I'm not "big data'd".
Destroying the cell radio would be my first choice - no doubts at all that my data isn't leaking via the cell network at that point. If that is not possible does anybody have any other ideas of how to lock down the cell radio completely??
Thanks for you help!

Hi Mrktmind
Sorry if I'm missing something here but ... your first option shouldn't be "Airplane Mode" ?
Nice regards.
.
Thank you for your reply Kdio.
My goal is/was to absolutely ensure that no voice/data is possible over cellular network. I'm guessing Airplane Mode is a function of the Android OS and thus would not effect the baseband firmware. Which is what (another guess) is being used to turn on your microphone remotely/covertly even with the phone turned off. I also want to leave intact the wi fi abilities of the phone.
I have since done some research and realized my knowledge of phone hardware may be numerous years old! Not as simple as locating a Cellular chip and disabling it. Now there are modem chips (some with GPS &wifi radios built in), baseband processors, wifi radios, etc. etc. I will keep researching but it is likely to take me a long while to get to where I want to be as I have very little time anymore. Which is why I was hoping a fellow XDA member might already know the answer. Or at least share with me the right direction in which to search.
Some (mostly younger) might wonder if it is worth this much effort just to keep my data and voice regarding totally legal things private. I would plead with those people to study history and learn what happens when people no longer have privacy or anonymity.
