I've tried most of the solutions/methods on this forum/net, but it just doesn't work!
I'm able to pair the device, start the PAN service and 'Intetnet Sharing' gets connected as well, PC gets an IP address, but I get no response when I ping or open a webpage.
On the phone end, I've tried with WM5, WM6, WM6.1 and even with WMWi iRouter. On the PC end, tried with 3 different XP/2003/Vista machines. I'm using BlueSoleil 6.2, but had no success with older or later versions either.
Internet Sharing over USB worked fine till my USB connector broke so BlueTooth/WiFi is my only option.
Can soneone help me out please?
if you want to teeth your gprs connection so your pc get internet that way
PAN is not the way to go
search for bluetooth AND modem
in the forums there are many guides how
it's setup
PAN is if you want your pda to get internet from your pc
Thanks for the reply. I tried Bluetooth DUN but it's too slow (115kbps) and keeps getting disconnected every 5 mins...
If Bluetooth PAN is for sharing PC net only, why then does it show up under 'Internet Sharing', and also shows the Cellular net option, as if it can connect the both, like it does for USB? If PAN isn't meant for sharing cell net, it shouldn't show the option, right?
I mean, it's not *impossible* right? We have a TCP/IP network established with all IPs properly assigned; only one device has net access; how hard or improbable can it be to share the net? There has to be a way! :|
Infact, even the inbuilt Help on Internet Sharing describes that cell net can be shared w/ the PC over bluetooth using 'Internet Sharing' and says nothing about connecting as a modem and the whole *99# thing. I was of the opinion that 'Internet Sharing' made that method obsolete...
- Disconnect everything
- Open internet sharing, select Bluetooth PAN, connect. IS should tell you "waiting for bluetooth connection".
- On the PC, connect to the PAN service on the phone. This must work, I've used it countless times.
If traffic doesn't go through, you probably have a proxy set on your device (happens with some network operators) that you need to disable for it to work.
^ That's exactly how I've been trying .. maybe it's because of BlueSoleil?
Which bluetooth stack are you using? I've been searching the local stores for a non-bluesoleil adapter but no luck so far
I'm using the Widcomm stack that came with my BT keyboard/mouse set. I think you can download it for free anyway...

Hi all
Firstly apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere. Searching bluetooth returns ... too many results to sift through.
OK, I have this setup. I connect my laptop to the net using either the router OR network cable. My laptop is equipped with BT.
Is there any way to browse the net from my PDA, by establishing a BT connection from XDA2 to the Laptop?
I know it would be a doddle (I hope) if I were to purchase a wifi SD card, but if I can avoid the expense it would be great.
Thanks in advance.
One way would be through BlueTooth ActiveSync. As when in the cradle, when your PPC is connected to your PC through ActiveSync, internet connectivity is through the PC. I use it whenever I am in proximity to my BT laptop. Works well!
If you go to Options in ActiveSync, click the Rules tab, check Open ActiveSync when my mobile device connects. and have the Connection set to The Internet or Work depending how your network is set up. Then establish an ActiveSync connection (USB, serial, Bluetooth or IrDA) and it will allow you use Internet programs like PocketIE, Pocket Outlook, etc.[/b]
I thank you both for your very very quick response.
Yes, both methods work. YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I am one happy bunny.
Cheers
Going insane bluetooth activesync internet
I wish I could be so happy. Let me give a brief overview of the last 6 hours:
Installed bluetooth dongle on the work PC - eventually got it connecting to the XDA2.
I have now managed to get a connection with activesync which seems to be quite robust and synchronises ok.
I am now trying to get on the internet via my active sync bluetooth connection (and tearing my hair out)
My network management is now set to a new connection I have created call 'My Work' no modem set up with the proxy settings set to those required on my work LAN. No VPN set up.
Have set the pass through on the PC to work, internet and open activesync to enable and disable but can't get ti to connect. Please help!!!!!

maybe it's a firewall issue
try messing around with the ping program
on your pocketpc and see if you can ping the ip of your computer
and on it's gateway and dns
also make sure your dns settings on your pocketpc is set to the same as your pc
pocket ping
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=11879
Thanks for the advice. Bit stumped really:
My PC has a static IP address (10.130.16.84) I run pocket ping on the XDA and it says it's IP address is 192.168.55.101 the network is DHCP enabled. Neither of them can ping the other one (so there is no way I can connect to the proxy from my XDA2). Any ideas why my IP address isn't in our LAN range.
Just out of interest I can use a Dell X3i and connect to the network wirelessly no problem at all.
Further to baffle everyone - If i disconnect bluetooth and cradle it. I get the same Ip address but can connect to the internet no problem! So this would lead me to believe that all the connection and activesync settings are correct.
not sure here are some guides
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?ContentId=449
Thanks for the help but the guides didn't fix the problem.
I eventually got it working (and a better bluetooth connection in the process) by downloading the slightly newer version of the XTND Blue Manager software http://www.windigosys.com/support.htm
I can now suft the internet on the XDA over activesync and syncrhonise files ok. Slightly slow but this I expect with what is basically a glorified serial port!
The only slight niggle I have now is that ActiveSync always reverts back to COM1 as the default port when I reboot my machine. Is there any way to stick it to com3?
it's blazing away at 700K/sec at least so the specs says
I am trying to configure my XDA2 to connect to my PC and surf the internet via a BT connection. I can Sync via BT but when I try to set up my connection it keeps asking for a phone number despite me saying it is over a Bluetooth connection and my IP is broadband. Sorry if this has been asked but I did search for any info on this.

Why do you need to setup connection for since it's already connected with ActiveSync via BT? Basically once you get connection between your device & activeSync, that's all the step you did. Unless a firewall has stopped your device from accessing to the internet; if it's the case, create exception for your activeSync, and retry browsing with your device.
hope this helps.
regards.
thanks for yor reply, Each time I try to connect the the interneet on my device it keeps trying to connect via GPRS and not through my PC via BT....
Go to ActiveSync, open the options menu & go to Rules tab.
At the bottom, you will find Pass Through Conenction, make sure its set to The Internet and not Work

thats it, it finally works. Thanks very much.
Glad to hear that, thomo
You're welcome anytime, dude
activesync through bt
go to setup in bluetooth and select the activesync in bt
pair the pda or ppc
give password
in wm2005 select activesync through the bt
brouse internet
i did myself
I'm having a similar problem and have effected the setting as above, however IE on my IIs says "the page you are looking for cannot be found". My computer connects fine and I have the same issue when trying to connect the device via WiLan, although I do connect to the network.
I've been trying to fiddle with the settings for a few days now but no success...anyone out there got any ideas.
Many thanks
I have mastered it now, I sync using BT on my device, leave it connetced, close Active sync on my XDA 11, Click on IE and the device connects through my PC, super duper.........
Thanks, this is what i am looking for now. I will try it
i can now only online with cable, not through Bluetooth connection
go into the advantage settings for connections
there you should be able to change the network back to my isp insted
of my network
bluetooth-internet
Hai...iam new here..i have got O2mini and would like to connect to internet via bluetooth...
i try using usb cable and activesync program to serve internet and its working.
...i succesfully connect my pc and ppc via bluetooth by using ppc activesync but when try connet to internet its still go to gprs..
pls help me...TQ
like i said again and again in this thread it's all about which network is picked in advantage settings under network connections in systems
I also tried to make a connection to the internet with activesync and usb. But with my mda doesn't work. iexplorer says the page you are looking for cannot be found. But my ppc says "connectivity the internet Pc connection". What are the settings on your ppc, so i can check?
Somebody help me.
test with ping
and maybe messenger to see if it's a dns issue
and if people use pocketplus they prob should make sure that it's not set to close insted of minimizing otherwise the connection would most likely be closed when they close activesync
Thank you very much. You solved my problem.

Hello
Can anybody help me how i can set up my smartphone that i can connect to the internet via BT?
I like to use the broadband internet connection of my home pc for browsing on the smartphone.
Greets,
Che
unless you set it to block it when you are connected with activesync you are connected to what ever network connection the pc have
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449
thanks for the answer. One thing i don't know is how i can set the phones internet explorer to use the bt connection and not the gprs.
i already have a activesync connection to the pc via bt, internet connection is shared.
in activesync, connection setting: this computer is connected to: maike it connected to the internet. that usually does the trick.
if you use a WM5 defice it's probably the only thing you can do to go online via BT, if you use a wm2003, it's whole different story. you can use PAN profile on the PDA and on the PC. I personally prefer the later one.
system->connections->connections->advanged
changed from myISP to mynetwork
then it use bluetooth for internet
and
" if you use a wm2003, it's whole different story. you can use PAN profile on the PDA and on the PC. I personally prefer the later one."
is only valid if you dont have vidcomm bluetooth stack
hi
thank you for the good inputs, that was what i have searched for.
It was a bit curios for me, because the OS Language of my phone is german, but now it is working!
I tried to use Trinity as a modem and did not manage to make this work.
I connect the usb cable. Start ISharing program on pda. Click conect. Says connected. 3G connection works. However the laptop is not connected to the internet.
Bluetooth also does not work. I can't find a way to create a PAN as they call it.
I would appreciate any suggestions as the manual is not clear on this topic
edit: i start internet sharing on my pda. i choose bluetooth. click connect. it says: Device setup finished. On the PC connect Bluetooth PAN.
On the PC i find my device. Find available services. Double click on 'Network Acces Point on Trinity'. I get a message that the computer is connecting and then an error: The Network Access connection failed: Could not connect to the remote device'
edit2: finally solved it.
I had to enter advanced bluetooth config on laptop. Under 'network access' properties I selected 'allow other devices to create a private network with this device'. Now it works.
hi,
i had the same issue, using bluetooth, but it´s the same, i guess.
you need to connect the pda with the pc, and when you get the connection, you go to the program menu in the pda, and select in the submenu connetions usb/bluettoth pan and connect.
the dial up connectiosn should start.
tell me if suceed.
i start internet sharing on phone. then go on bluetooth->quick connect-> network access -> my phone name. then it works as i mentioned above. but i had to change some properties in my bluetooth configuration to make it work.
The same for me : when I try tu use it as a GPRS modem for my TomTom Rider device, the Rider says that the DUN profile isn't provided as a service by the Trinity !!! Use to work perfectly with my old Magician !!! I'm really disappointed ! Will see if the brand new ROM with GPS feature corrects this...
try to start internet sharing first (in trinity), connect to gprs and then start bluetooth services discovery on tomtom.
I'm not using bluetooth, but trying to use the phone as a modem using USB with a laptop. It works, but is really flaky, so would appreciate some pointers on how to fix the problem.
First thing that I do is connect the phone to my laptop via USB. Activesync starts up on both the laptop and the phone. Then, when I start the Internet Sharing program, the phone stops Activesync and connects to the network. Everything works fine for a while and I am able to surf the net on both the Trinity and the laptop with no problems for a while. The problem is that after a period that can vary from 10 minutes to 1 hours, the laptop loses the internet connection. The phone is still connected to the internet though and I can still surf using the PDA. It's just the laptop that loses the connection.
I have to reboot the laptop and soft reset the Trinity to repeat the process to get internet on the laptop going again.
Any ideas what's causing the problem? I've tried disabling Advanced USB Functionality on the Trinity, but the problem is still there...
What I want to do is browse the internet on my 8525 using the internet from my laptop, internet sharing but from my laptop to my device and using bluetooth...
Ive already look at more than 50 topics in this forum, cingular forums and over the internet and nothing, I get tutorials to use the 8525 as a modem, to share the internet from the device to the computer but not from the computer to the device.
Ill appreciate any help... thanks.

depends on what you have. if you have wm6 you can do this by using the internet sharing utility on your 8525. pair your device with your computer first. then go to internet sharing and under pc connection scroll down to bluetooth PAN, select the correct connection you use and then click connect on the bottom. that should do it.
I have WM5...

not really familiar with that process in wm5.
I have that 'internet sharing' utility but that does nothing; it says "connect" but when I try to open a website it does nothing or it attempts to connect thru the GPRS using any of the three settings under Network Connections (Cingular GPRS, Media Net, My ISP GPRS); and I don't hava any data plan or media net...

oh thats easy... you have to initiate the connection first. go to the mobile browser and just go to google.com or something so it can call up the gprs/edge/3g connection. when it connects then you can do the internet sharing utility thing. the phone has to be connected to the mobile internet before you can share the connection.
You have to set internet sharing to Bluetooth pan like it says here and click on connect
http://www.wireless.att.com/support...alsCategory=Bluetooth+Set+Up&tutorialId=98500
After that it depends on what bluetooth stack you are using on your pc.
If you are using the MS Bluetooth stack you have to right click on the bluetooth icon in the system tray and click on "join personal network area" If you already have the phone paired up you click on the phone, then click on connect.
If you are using a widcomm stack, open up My Bluetooth places, click on view devices in range. Right click on the phone and click on "Connect Network Access point"
The Toshiba stack is a big pain in the butt. You have to set up a partnership in custom mode. and select Bluetooth pan as the default service. Once paired up the process is just like the widcomm stack
When I go to "Internet Sharing" and hit connect it says "Device setup finished. ON the PC, connect Bluetooth PAN"
Now when I go to the PC and click on "Connect Network Access Point" (im using widcomm) it says "The network Access connection failed - error 0x81000015"
I got mine to work with Black Majic but there's frequent disconnects. i cannot seem to hold a connection for more than 5 minutes at a time. but USB sharing works for at least an hour at a time... sigh
you must have a data plan

hi my man. if you don't have a data plan the internet sharing won't work at all if you have t-mobile and willing to pay for the service. try changing your phone on t-mobile website for a blackberry .then add the blackberry internet . is cheaper and same thing as the total internet service
Can this be done via "Dial Up Networking", I read a tutorial somewhere but there was some steps that I wasnt able to pull off; I did create a new connection by going to Start >> Settings >> Connections >> Connections >> Add a new modem connection >> where it says "Enter a name for the connection" I put My connection >> where it says "Select a modem" I select "Bluetooth" and hit next, then I select the name of my computer (ex; Acer-284ru9) because it was already pair with the device, then I hit next again and it asked me for a phone number to and I enter *99# (because thats the phone number I saw at the previous tutorial), then it ask me for:
username: anything
password: anything
Domain*: blank
and enter finish; then I went to Start >> Programs >> Internet Sharing >> select:
PC Connection > Bluetooth Pan
Network Connection > My connection
hit "Connect" and it starts connecting, and on the computer it says "Bluetooth Device MyPocketPC is connected to the "Dial-Up Networking" service on this computer" but it keeps attempting to connect on the device and it does for about 2 seconds, then drops.
I dunno, maybe there's something missing, Ill appreciate any help, been hitting my face with this for the last couple of days.
Please guys DO read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282780 - it explains everything.

I have the situation like you. Did you manage to get the solution?
I installed the widcomm (http://www.telusplanet.net/public/wladykad/) , bbs_hermes_03A.cab and managed to join the personal access network, but when to open the IE, it failed (load page). Anybody can help me?
When i set the connection, Setting>my isp>add a new modem connection>name (any)>select a modem -->bluetooth>press next>add new device>problem here...cannot pair with my bluetooth dongle...but i can join PAN via bluetooth manager (BBS_hermes_003)
appreciate any help
device: cingular 8525
Pro : CHT9K WM6 WWE-C v1.1
Radio : 1.50
think i did this before with my old pda.. (6315) but just cant remember how.. it wasnt easy though..
Did you manage to solve?
1 thing to add...i can "join a personal network manager" by a simple click...
and in the bluetooth properties(in pc), i have selected "allow other devices to access the internet/LAN via this computer"...
In the Bluetooth manager, Active connection, what i can see is under outgoing connections, it has my name for my network..and network access...
I try to describe what is the item in bluetooth manager to hope someone can help me to solve the problem...
and my final intention is to run it from my office win98 (to provide internet access for my pda) which has internet access and link to htc hermes (100) to access to real time data....
any help much appreciated...
Finally i managed to do internet sharing via bluetooth.
This what i did (other then my previous post)
go to Setting>Connections>Advanced>Select Networks>under Network Management & Porgrams tht automatically connect to the internet should connect using ..and i choose >My Work Network>Edit>Proxy Settings>checked This network connects to the Internet..
It worked...i can connect to internet via bluetooth dongle (bluesoleil)...horray...
I hope i can emulate the same to my office windows 98 ...
