Lost my mp3 and other media associations
Now I can't even use a mp3 as ringtone !!!
I don't wanna hard reset my xperia, just for this little issue...
How can I retsore my associations back to windows media player ??
PS: DON'T INSTALL "NOTEM": IT WONT WORK ND IT WILL MESS UP YOUR PHONE
try advanced config
right soft key, more settings - fle associations-
you need to change them to
WMPlayer.exe "%1"
use resco exploerer to find any mp3 file and try openwith and check the option always open with.
if it doesn't work hard re-set may be only option.
always use sprite bacup to backup device when u feel that your device is in best state and always restore this after hard reset and don't forget to disable error reporting before restore.
Thank you very much guys, testing both options

Suddenly my Media Player has gone bad on me. Probably deleted some part of it in my efforts to slim down the system. When I launch it from the "Programs" folder I get this error-message:
"The file 'player' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might nedd to reinstall or restore this file."
The icon is also missing. However when I try to open a WMP-file the app starts up just fine, and after that clicking on the icon in the "Programs" folder also works until next (soft)reset. Icon still missing though. Kinda annoying but no big deal. Can it be fixed somehow, or am I facing my first hard reset?
Grateful for help / [email protected] xlnt forum
OK, so I did the hard reset hoping my problem would go away but since I also restored my device with Sprite the WMP-error was also restored (I sort of suspected that...)
It did however work before the restoring part of all this.
Is there any other way of doing this? (Besides another hard reset and the pain of having to manually install/set registrys etc etc...)
Please advise... :?
If you can remember all the files you deleted, you can perform a hard reset so that the files you deleted in the first place are returned. Copy all those files to your SD Card then use your excisting Sprite Backup to restore back to whatever configuration you programmed and add one by one the files you deleted (now placed on your Sd card) and test Windows Media Player. This proceedure is very tidious as you have to try one file at a time and remembering which folder you copied them from, restoring and deleting them again if that was not the file needed.
So personally, I would just perform a hard reset and do it all over again. But this is just me.
Another suggestion to avoid this happening in the future, if you do opt for the hard reset and starting from scratch, make a backup BEFORE each time you add or delete a file. Just in case you want to go back to your last configuration. This is the procedure I use to do with my Palm OS device each time I want to try an application. I made sure I have a backup of my system with a clean install, meaning I did not change anything on the system, just a plain backup after I plugged-in all my codes and installed all my applications. I then perform another backup after each change I do and observe my system if nothing conflicts. So in anyway, using this procedure, I know I always have a backup of a clean install. Something I miss from Palm.
You´re probably right, makes sense to have a nice, clean backup to go back to. Guess that's what I'll do. Just need to work up the energy for it...
Thanks Christian!
my pie has gone mad it will always say page ur lookin can not be found and when u launch any htm file is says it couldnt be opened......thus i can download files through opera mini as it requires pie......anybody help i dont want a hard reset
Get yourself a copy of Sprite Backup, makee a decent backup with it & go for the hard-reset. Maybe it helps & you're not going lo loose a thing.
Otherwise try turning on flightmode on & off. Or delete all your gprs settings & clean them from the registry as well.
Success, M

i did hard reset restored with spb backup cleaned gprs settings manually i dontknow how 2 clean them from registry...........can u tell what 2 do now
Search in the registry for Rasbook & ConnMgr. There are probably settings in
there with the same name as you used for the GPRS (both internet & MMS) connections. When you located them you can delete them & search the rest of the registry for keys/values regarding the same name. When you cleaned out the registry you can setup a new connection & see if it works.
When you happen to screw up you can allways hard-reset & restore again

Hello,
i have a file called History in the main device memory and it keeps going larger and larger every day! it seems like it is a log file for every time i soft reset my JasJar. i can't delete it or rename it and the only way to open it is to copy and paste in other folder and then i can open the copy.
can anyone advise how can i delete it or disable logging events?
Regards.
Internet Explorer history perhaps? You periodically need to clear the history cache from IE if you don't want your memory to fill up. I haven't found a way to put a limit on it. It just keeps growing till the whole friggin memory is full.
hi,
thanks for your reply but this is not the case! it is stand alone file which keeps recordings a log file of each time the device reset.
i had all kinds of i-mates before but this is the first time i see this file!
Hi,
I have raised this question many months ago. I had it on my old ROM and since upgrading to the latest Orange ROM i still have it.
The answer to my old post was that it was a debugging flag that was left enabled by the ROM - so far I have been unable to find it in the registry.
The only option might be to backup your device, hard reset and when you restore from the backup see if there is an option to ignore restoring the history.txt file.
Its very annoying and before I upgraded my ROM the file was at about 750K - now its at 55k, and thats within about 2 months.
Let me know if you find anything else about it.
Matt

I have only used Sprite Backup and this does now allow selective file restoration in the root directory.
Might be worth seeing if SPB backup will give the option to be more selective.

hi to everybody, i've just bought a Jade. 2 questions:
1. does tcpmp work on jade?
2. Does somebody know a freeware soft to make a complete backup of the device? I'm looking for somenthing like the backup tool of winmobile 2003, with that you can keep a new device (doesn't care wich rom in already installed) and restore your backup, after this you will have your device not only with all your datas (contacts, appointments, notes, ecc) but you will have all the programs you had installed too, all the tweaks you set in registry will be restore. I'd like to find out a back up tool that make an "image copy" of the device.
Thanks in advance.

to 2: Look the HTC-website and find "Sprite Backup".
This tool make a full-backup from system.
thanks man!
to 2:
I've got better Results with SPB-Backup on my Elfin an Hermes
to 1:
test it, its work great on the most WM-Devices
I've tested tcpmp on my jade: no problem with installation, I see the icon in the programs page but when I tap on it the player doesn't start and a pop-un message write me off an error and to send the crash.txt file to the developer. So I have to say that tcpmp doesn' work.

Sprite BackUp is included in the Application CD, install both Software, 1 for your Jade and 1 for PC so you can backup your Jade either on your phone or your computer.

I also have the same error with TCPMP, Installation is successful and when I open the application crash.txt is created and asked to be sent to the developer. Is there any other good media player (free) which can be installed as an alternative to TCPMP
Help...
My HD2's FM application and Window Media Player are missing (may be deleted), anyway I can reinstall the application without hard reset?
Thank in advance...
hard reset
are you sure it's not just the shortcuts that are missing? In that case, no need to hard reset. The programs are in ROM. I don't see how you could have deleted them.
Explore the Windows folder and check that FMRadio.exe and wplayer.exe are still there
Thanks, will try to search for the file...
Dino,
If you can't find the exe files you are looking for then the quickest way to resolve the problem is to backup your device using, say, Sprite Backup or SPB Backup, hard reset then restore your backup.
Your items should be restored and it will take far less time than rebuilding your device.
Hope this helps.
WB
Thanks everyone...
Found it, really appreciate your help.
