Hi -
I have an XDA IIi and recently upgraded to TOMTOM 5.
So far - I have two issues.
1. Some POI's crash and cause the program to exit. Looking through this very informative forum I have found a patch for this. I am yet to see if it fixes it but fingers crossed!
2. When TOMTOM exits (via the menu) the bluetooth disables on the phone. I have looked around and can not see any fixes or details on this. Any ideas?
Any help would be much appreciated.

There is no fix for this AFAIK, even the newly released 5.1 patch doesn't fix it (again AFAIK)
TT5 issues...
Try loading the TT5.1 patch, it may work.
The TT pages don't mention the software keybard fix for those PDAs with a hard keyboard, but it does fix it.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for coming back to me. I have installed the patch and yes the POI's now can be viewed without exiting..
I can live with the bluetooth closing on exit....however, I seem to have 2 different issues.
1. It now crashes occaionally when driving about.
2. The enabled POI's change on each load. i.e it does not remember the previous enabled POI.. just seems to add Argos in e.t.c. each time!
anybody else had these problems?
Thanks again
Try telling it not to show POIs at all. It has made the world of difference to the speed and frequency of crashing (ie it hasn't [yet]). If you use speed camera POIs, make sure they are set to warn you, and they still will. They just own't be vissible on the map.

I've not had it crash on me ever, as for not remembering your settings, make sure that tomtom and all of it's directories (maps etc) are not read only
I managed to solve tomtom from crashing and also from disconnecting bt on exit. (5.1 fixes this!)
However, the phone is just a general pain in the butt! becuase I have a bluetooth car kit aswell as bluetooth gps.. the phone can not do it all at once! aswell as tomtom. it may run it for a bit.. but make a call or receive a call and it all just ends up in a reset.
I decided to go back to the good old pda and seperate phone! anyone wanting an XDA IIi can find mine on ebay!!
a lesson learned i feel!
Thanks for all your help!
Hi,
I've trawled the forum and I've followed all the TomTom setup procedures. The Problem is they seem to be for people who can't get TomTom working at all. I can get it working, just awkwardly.
Once I pair with my GPS receiver and go into TomTom i can get a connection. However when i quit TomTom and turn off the GPS it seems to forget. Next time I turn it on I don't get a connection.
The way I understand TomTom is that it seems to wait for the GPS receiver to contact the phone. This seems odd as I would have thought the phone would be the one to initiate contact.
Anyway my GPS receiver just seems to forget what phone it was connected to. TomTom obviously isn't forgetting the port, windows obviously isn't forgetting the pairing. But Every time I use it I have to re-pair the receiver (thus reminding the receiver of the phone it's supposed to be bonded to). It's beginning to drive me a bit insane.
Anyone else have this issue? Perhaps it's to do with my incoming and outcoming ports? Hopefully someone has already solved this? Not seen any references to it anywhere.

Hello,
Which version of Tomtom are you using ? The last one (5.21) ? If not, try to upgrade and try again.
Yep 5.2 latest release.
I was hoping upgrade would fix it but alas no.

Don't mean to be picky, but 5.2 or 5.21?
I've held off installing TTN on my Wizard, as it works fine on my iPAQ 4700, I have a cradle for that, and according to ttcode, my current device is actually my old 3970, not the current iPAQ... Last week, I had a couple of hour drive to do, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. After an email exchange with TomTom support (who were more helpful than I'd originally given them credit for), I had a new activation code for the Wizard. Here's what I did, from a fairly recent hard reset with no previous TTN install whatsoever. Skip the mail if it doesn't look helpful, but I'll detail my steps in case it helps anyone else...
Although I believe the PC install is mended in 5.21 I copied the map and voice cab files from the CD to my SD card and installed them from there. The GPS drivers and main app I installed from the download I got from the TomTom support site by running the setup util on my PC. Once everything was installed, I moved the maps which seemed to finish up in a sub-directory on the card to the root of the card.
I paired the GPS (my old Emtac BT one) and selected serial port profile. I tried all the offered serial ports in the "Other BT GPS" list in TTN but none worked. Then I went to 'COM Ports' in Comm Manager/Bluetooth Settings and selected "New Outgoing Port". I picked the GPS from the list of paired SPP devices, and it created a new BT COM port on COM6. That definately hadn't been in TTN's list of BT com ports before, but is now there in the list with about half a dozen others. I selected that in the "Other BT GPS" list of BT ports, and TTN connects to the GPS each time.
As I said, I'd recently hard reset the device to try and prove a problem with my BT car-kit soit's quite possible the clean install was the secret, but try creating a new outgoing COM port against the GPS and see if TT remembers that...

Which?
There are 2 general ways to set it up, 1 works 100% (i use it so know it does ) 1 i dont use and have never tried so may well work in the reverse direction and be causing you errors.
The way i set up tomtom; pair the BT GPS. Open an OUTGOING port to the BT GPS, set my GPS as OTHER (wired/cable) NEMA device (NOT bluetooth) in TTN5. now my tomtom connects to the bluetooth, not the otherway round. This method has thrown up no errors for me at all.
If you have followed the reg edit/hack to show the GPS page in connections then i dont know how the settings differ and the possible results this could have on connection issues.
Let us know which way you are going
I have the exact problem as BigDamHero. Each time I wanna use TTN, I need to delete the previously paired BT GPS and then pair it again, otherwise the TTN will just say No GPS Device. I use TTN v5.21 and Wizard with Windows Mobile 5. I tried my BT GPS device on my brother's PDA which runs on Windows Mobile 3, and it connects like a gem every time. I am also looking if anyone has solved this issue, cos it is tedious re-pairing every time.
Had the same problem until 5 mins ago! Found an explanation in another thread, but only in Dutch..
Here's how to do it:
Turn on GPS
Activate bluetooth on device, go to BT parameters, delete previous pairing like you're used to
Create new pairing, choose GPS, enter passkey, check Serial port in services, go to COM ports and add outgoing port (e.g. COM6) like you're still used to
Add an incoming port too (e.g. COM7) <-- Here's the trick!
Set your GPS apps to use COM6 (the outgoing one)... and here you are! This time it will work, you can turn off GPS and device bluetooth, turn on again and it will connect by itself.
If you want a bit more you can activate GPS panel, set program port to COM8 (then you will have to use this in your apps) and COM6 as hardware port.
Everything works fine now!
hey man, wot a coincidence....i also just read that post which had the dutch explanation.....BUT however, it's not working for me.

I did everything in the list except for creating the incoming port and it still works everytime (I know that's no consellation to you). I wonder if something else you've installed, or the way you installed the app is causing the problem? Is it worth a hard reset and trying the entire install on a clean wizard?
Dox
A friend didn't need the incoming port either. I believe it has something to do with the GPS, as he has a different brand than me.
With mine, before adding the incoming port if I started an app without erasing/redoing the pairing before I would get a notification saying "Navman GPS wants to connect" and asking me to pair. It would keep coming every 10 seconds whatever I did.
BigDamHero, what brand / model of GPS is it?
Maybe we can see if anybody here, or over on pocketgpsworld has been able to make the same combination work and if so, what they had to do to get it to fly...
Dox.
well, tomtom was the very first thing I installed when I got my new vario. it was only after I got tomtom fully working (but still need to re-pair everytime), then I installed a couple of simple Card games.

A quick glance at pocketgps suggests others are having similar issues. There's a thread here that suggests leaving it a while, and I seem to remember other GPS issue threads saying power up the GPS and let it get a fix before starting TTN. A more detailed probe round the forum will probably show more of the same.

I've just flashed my Qtek 9100 to a new ROM, (the O2 one), and since then I've been getting this same problem. With my previous ROM everything worked fine. I was able to turn of either my PDA or GPS, and they would always auto-reconnect in a few seconds. Looks to me like something broke during one of the ROM changes. Which ROM versions does everyone with/without this problem have?
By the way, I have a BT77 GPS.
Hey sorry for the total lack of reply. Been snowed under with exams.
Ok I tried most of what you guys said but didn`t work. BT ports aren't available to select as hardware ports.
However I have managed to solve it. The key was to pair the GPS, and create an UNENCRYPTED OUTGOING port. That's all. Previously I had encrypted ports outgoing and incoming. My GPS applet in control pannel is set to none so it,s nothing to do with that.
I don't know what my GPS is. Its unbranded. One of the cheap common ones.
Hope this helps some people with the same problem.

Have just received my Kingston 1GB Transflash card and installed TTN v602 on my Hermes.
Installation was succesfull but each time I start TTN the software freezes. It wont respond to any screen taps. If I go back to the Today Screen and select the TTN icon in the sys tray it brings TTN back up and it works fine.
Anyone else exerienced this and know of any fix...
Many thanks
Try and wait for a long long time. My Charmer starts TomTom.. in.. almost 2 minutes.
I run TT 6.02 (7980) on an German Vario II
This Version makes nothing Problems

I get the exact same problem sometimes. I just figured that it was doing it because it was reading off the card or something.
Running TTN601 on mine... Have a similar problem... I've setup a key (recorder key) to start software for ease and find if you run it up, hit red end call button then restart (I then use rec button) all is well and it won't lock up.
Very strange...
I did have a problem with it locking up on a longish journey, say 80 miles or so.. I had to re install it and since the re install it has been perfect (watch it lock up now !!)
Also running it on a new 2Gb sandisk card, only £33 off Ebay, not bad value. Just copied one card to the other via 2 card readers, no problems, I mention that as some folks appear to have had problems.
Phil
Well Im glad its not just me - makes me feel better! Still, TTN worked perfectly on my Wizard so I am very confused as to why it gives me probs now.
Maybe its down to the Transflash card. Over the weekend I will do some more testing and re-installation and let you know how I get on.
Merry XMAS everyone!
same problem here. it always seems to crash when i'm entering in a postcode. Always took me about 3 attempts to type in the full code!
Yep, same here as well, tapping the red end call button and then clicking on the tomtom hands again does bring it back but it is very annoying, needs to be fixed though along with the bluetooth issues as well.
I would not of got this phone if i new about these issues, i am sure these problems can be resolved with a new firmware, the trouble is T-Mobile seems to be useless as releasing one. There are other ones released so that might be an option if they dont hurry up and release a new one.
The wizard was much more reliable, had very few issues with that once flashed with molskis rom shame one cant be made for this model.
TTN 6 is a bit of a slug on my tytn, especially when you enter a street and it has to crunch through the list.. it 'crashes' occasionally when you select exit.. apart from that though it starts snappy and does it's job.
In my case, TomTom freezes only when I load big(ger) maps like Western-Europe or the Benelux-Plus. When I load a smaller map, say the Benelux, then TomTom works like a charm, no freezes at all!
I tried TomTom 6.0, 6.01 and 6.02: all the same problems with large(r) maps.
Same Problem
I've the same problem when i use the TT without a GPS-Device. When GPS device is on, there is no problem at all. No Idea Why....
Fuzzi
Hi! I raised the same problem about one month ago but without any reasonable solution. Someone tell to delete the COM port on the BT pair, someone tell to enable security on the COM port of the BT pair... I tried all TTN6 versions (6.0, 6.0.1 and 6.0.2) on my TyTN (also with different ROM versions) but Navigator still freezes when inserting adresses, with or without GPS receiver (I'm using TomTom Wireless GPS MkII)...

I have experience the same with my tytn with latest htc rom I have now installed v5.210 and tested today on 2 trips 20 & 50 mile trips without any freezing so will stick with this for now..
Was there any update to this? or is it basically go back to version 5 of TT?
Cheers
If it any help I'm running TTN601 with a Holux GPSlim236. It is set to use Com port 4 with no additional input or output ports configured.
If I run TT and then within a few seconds try to navigate by entering either a postcode or an address etc it will lock up and I have to exit the program.
I have found that if I run the program up, then close it (it doesn't really appear to shut, just the screen returns to the today screen) then re run TT it will then work without a hitch.. I've setup my voice recorder button to run TT on 1 short press to save even needing the stylus.
I guess it may be a memory problem why it locks up but this method works 100 % for me since I started doing it and it's no great hassle with a key having been configured..
TTN6.01 works fine, I've got all the real voices setup for speed camera warnings etc (the OGG files). I don't bother with the TT cameras, I use pocketgps for mine...
Just incase it's a memory issue I've just checked mine by clicking on the version sats icon, then version icon on the screen.
I'm running version 6.010 (7720) with 16.6MB of free ram and gps driver v1.2.. I understand that there is version 6.02 available but that may cause me problems greater than the minor quick restart one so I will stick with this one for now...
p.s some folks seem to think that the larger the micro sd card you have the slower the Tytn(m3100 in my case) seems to get but I've got a 2 gig card loaded with MP3's and even a couple of full length movies should I get board over christmas and the new year (sad isn't it !) and it appears no slower than with a half empty 1 gig card..
May be some of that is of help..
Phil
Some other strange issues...
Not sure if this problem is related to TT freezing, but after I have been out on a journey and closed TomTom down a few of the icons from my Start --> Settings --> System screen are missing.
I have lost GETPDA.exe so cant post what remains - but things like Device Info are missing. They return after a soft boot.
Anyone else have the same probs?
Happy new year!
I'm using the latest Australian ROM, and TomTom Navigator 6.02, running the Australian map with no issues at all. Navigation is fast, and works perfectly with no crashes - I just returned from a ~2500km journey using TomTom on my phone the whole way with no issues at all.
Running a GlobalSat BT308 bluetooth GPS, security enabled, set to COM0.
Problem Resolved!
Ok - looks like TomTom have released an update that fixes the issue with the Hermes crashing during menu selection.
I now have version 6.100 (7970) installed and it works perfectly!
EDIT - also, this new version is sooo fast!! A vast improvement!
No Issues (with the software at least)
Hello All
I hav ebeen using TomTom v6.0 on my HTC TyTN for 2 months now. I have had no issues at all. No slowness, no crashing. The only issue is the Bluetooth connection to my receiver.
I am using the GB maps, so not huge.
Just waiting now for the update at the end of the month to solve the Bluetooth Issues so that the connection to my Bluetooth receiver does not keep dropping the connection.
O well, we will wait and see

If I bought 6.0, where do I now get 6.1 if not from tomtom website?

Hi there,
Is there someone using TomTom Navigator 6.03 and experiencing the same strange thing I do?
Everytime I start TomTom the sound is off; the sound off icon is on screen. I have to tap Turn on sound in the preferences menu twice in order to have the sound turned on and to have the icon disappeared.
When I exit TomTom and start it again, the sound is turned off again.
Annoying and no idea how to fix that. Deleting the navigator.cfg didn't help.

Hi. I am having exactly the same issue here with TT. I've checked my mapsettings.cfg file and it's not read only...The only thing I can think of is it is because my map is installed on the microdrive, not an SD card
Any help appreciated too!
Merlin
Mapsettings.cfg is not read only and my maps (everything on TomTom) is installed on the Storage Card.
I have exactly the same installation running on my Touch as well, and no problems at all. Seems to be something on my X7500 then.... but what!!???
I am having exactly the same problems, it's been driving me potty! TT is installed on storage card, no idea whats causding it!
Same problem here...
However it started when I updated it from 6.01 back on my old Wizard. That worked properly. I did discover that you don't have to go to Prefs... you can get the sound back on by tapping the joystick to the right. Also, it doesn't happen when it's on AC power, but only on battery.

Not a bad workaround, just wish we could find what was causing this.
Just to clear things out, but who has this problem with official and legal versions of TTN 6.03? - E.g. has it something to do with cracked/patched versions?
Mine's legal...
Although I'm starting to regret messing with TomTom. Their customer service is awful. Unless your device is one the approximately 5 devices they officially support, they'll wash their hands of you if you call for help saying your device is "not compatible." I called for support on my Wizard, which to be exact was a Cingular 8125. That phone is not on their list of compatible devices, but its twin, the T-Mobile MDA, is on the list. I called and said I had an 8125 and they refused to help me. I hung up, called back, and said I had an MDA. They tried to help me, but when they didn't have an instant answer for me they just said, "Sorry, we don't have that problem on ours" and started spewing out useless canned knowledge base articles. For heaven's sake, the MDA and 8125 are the SAME PHONE! Also, don't tell them you have WM6, because WM6 is "not compatible." Basically, if you have to call TomTom support, lie through your teeth. I'm waiting for OnCourse Navigator, due out in October or November, and then I may abandon TomTom.
Just to compile information...
OK Let's see:
1) I got my TT6.03 legal with legal maps and I got the problem.
2) Running my old legal TT6.01 I didn't had the problem.
3) If I do it using Prefs I need to activate twice the sound in order to get the mute removed
4) I got the problem running on baterry, using the oficial car charger and using the wall charger. I got the problem all the time no matter what power source I'm using.
5) The "Move Joysting to Right" workaround works great. Thank you very much. That don't solve the problem but makes my live much easier.
So... that's the point. I'm running TT6.03 (legal) over WM5 ROM in spanish.
Best Regards,
mahjong
So.... resuming: it's TomTom Navigator 6.03 with the combination of the HTC X7500/Athena.
The problem isn't there while running 6.03 on a HP iPAQ hx4700, Qtek 9000 and HTC Touch.
I have 6.030 on WM6 English on my Athena and I don't have this problem...
I don't have this problem either. I'm using version 6.0

Then that goes for version 6.03 only. With 6.00 it didn't matter wether the data connection was active or not.
Anyway, I need to stick with 6.03 and live with the mute problem, since 6.03 can work with my voices stored on storage card (instead of MD) and performs a fix in only seconds (instead of 1 - 1,5 minute).
No sound after starting TT6.03
I have the legal version of TT6.03 and I have the problem too. I only have this problem when my phone is connected to the internet using gprs, umts or hsdpa. If their is no connection I do not have this problem. It also happens on other devices for instance the HP iPAQ 6340 and it is a know bug. TomTom know's about it. It will be solved in te next version.

BINGO!!! We got a winner here ladies and gentlemans.
Mine has the connection online all the time due to my push-mail solution (Blackberry Connect). I did some test shutting down Blackbery Connect before starting TT and "the problem" just gone.
Thank you. Anyway since I must have connection online all the time the "Joystick move to right" trick is great for me.

Guys great thread, I am glad to see someone else is struggling with this strange issue. Its really no big deal, its just annoying. Any updates on this issue yet?
And here was me thinking it was my *cough* test *cough* version. Loving the 'fix' taa v much. I might have to write a mortscript that recycles the data connection, rotates the screen and starts TT.
tomtom 6.02-7910 works fine
I also was having problems with tomt 6.032 but the problems does not seem to exist in tomtom 6.02-7910
Hi
I have installed tomtom 7 version 7.450 / 7.451 both these version install fine and work apart from the fact they dont display how many sats are in range it is blank as if nothing but still works (annoying).
I also installed the latest one which is 7.915.916 (i think) this one again works fine and shows the sats but tomtom Traffic wont enable, just comes back saying need to setup a connection on the phone or in tomtom home (connection already there of course and works fine on 7.450/7.451).
Version 7.910.9185 (think this is correct) seems to work ok with traffic as well but ALL verisons seem to suffer from the same problem and that is when you connect it to tomtom home it displays the device id that is connected to the tomtom account and then shows the device connected to the computer as being different. The serial no's of both devices are identical apart from on the on tomtom thinks is registered to the account has a capital letter at the start and for some reason it has lower case letters in the middle (still the same serial no). the one that is says you are connecting to the computer displays the correct serial with NO capital T and letters in the middle are all caps. very strange indeed. Have rung tomtom and got them to reset my account. this works the first time you then connect to tomtom home, but as soon as you disconect and reconnect it says the device is not linked to the account displays the serial no slightly different to what it should be.
This usually would not be a problem but i have a speed camera subscription with tomtom and I cannot get them to download because of this. My traffic works fine and the actual device code stays the same within tomtom just this serial no issue.
I have tried all tomtom homes ranging from 1.5 right the way through to 2.6 (latest), 1.5 does work to a certain degree and does not show the serial no error but does not work with v7+8 maps so useless.
Anyone got any thoughts or is this a tomtom problem because they dont officially support the device ?
If not i will just go back to using my pocket world camera subscription, just easier to use this as you can download the updates to cameras whilst on the move.
Thanks
Update.
It appears you can download the camera updates manually from the tomtom site so now not too much of a problem, but definately one to watch out for if you have any extra paid for services from tomtom with this phone.
tom tom
i installed the same version of tom tom, but now my bluetooth will not start up, does anybody have a soluton for this problem

This is to do with the 2 bt files contained in the cab file you installed, only way to get back for me when i done this was to hard reset. I then removed the 2 files from the cab file using wincab manager.
there is a thread on this forum about this very problem.
For other people....
regarding my original issue on post#1, i have now installed the tomtom camera's manually as this works fine. I will try out TTHome once they release a version that is definitely compatible with the Touch Pro 2. For now i will use 7.451 as although the sats dont display on screen this still works and does not seem to suffer the lag when navigating like the later version i.e. 7.915.916 / 7.910
