SSContact (ScrollingStone project name) is a application similar iContact developed by larna.
Why a similar iContact app ? The reasons are three :
- because I wanna do it by myself...
- because I want add all features that i like...
- because I'm enjoying to code and i'm having fun to see this app growing.

Only WM5 version has been tested by me, I don't have a WM2003 or WM6 device to test them but they should work. Zip files have inside a cab, it will set SSContact as default contact app in right softkey. If you don't want it install RemoveSoftKey.cab and softreset the device or just extract file exe or see faqs how to change registry to remove it

ok I gave it a spin. My Device is a Cingular 8525 (US) running WM6 (Black 3.01).
The first thoughts:
1. Formating of Contacts. the app shows lastname firstname instead of lastname, first name.
2. I am not seeing all my contacts or its not listing all the contacts in alphabetical order.
3. When I select a contact with my finger or the stylus, nothing happens.
4. It seems that the app is pulling Company info in some instances and contact name in others..very weird.
Suggestions:
It would be cool if you could add/import pictures from the contacts

I think you have a good basis here just continue to work at it..good luck

- application is compiled for WM5 not tested on WM6 so i can't be sure all works properly there.
- Order is guaranteed by List Control and API of Windows CE so it's not my procedure but I'll check... be sure u don't have some space before names.
- Contacts, SMS and Phone are not enabled (it's only a test application not a complete application) so they can only be scrolled but u can't select them
- Yes it display company names when company name is present.
About suggestions :
- Pictures are too much heavy and it should make very slow scroll procedure and I Think they should be too much small to be really usefull.
- I'm not planning to add a filtering by categories at the moment, next step is add a Sort by Firstname and Sort by Lastname

my notes:
1- i tried icontact before ,not working with me
2-SSCONTACT, when i tape the contact nothing happen
3- i see that the interface is good by showing the 2 icons of dialing&message beside the name but again nothing happen upon tapping any icon
4- it scrolls only with the nevagtion key of the ppc not by finger!!!
5-the keyboard is stuck and not closed upon tapping except closing X buuton of the program
your suggestions?????????

I don't know... it's strange in your device not works iContact and also my app maybe u have some program have make some conflict with them... you should scroll with fingers... keyboard shouldn't stuck ...u can close it tap on OK button... icons and contact aren't enabled it's only a test application, it's the first time I have this report.

I think the most natural way to sort is outlook's "file as" since we already declare what we want to see as "file as"

I've already added sorting by first or last name at the moment tomorrow I'll post the new version, meanwhile if u found bugs on this report me

got me all thinking about developing for ppc myself - any chance that you post sources? how difficult ... how time consuming is it?

at the moment no. Some parts are more difficult than other but I'm new in ppc programming and first I've to learn to apply so it taking me much time.

It's great you opened up your own thread. I love to beta test new and developing apps. Even though my device is slower, I will still give comments on your app.
The app so far is running pretty smoothly. A bug I found is with the keyboard quick search feature. There is a person on my contact list named, let's say "Zack"...when I type Z it does not go to the name. This happens for a few other letters with the keyboard as well.
Will you implement phone numbers showing up for names under just Company?
Also, what are the letters on the left side of the screen suppose to do??

during Quick Search with Keyboard you don't see people in the bottom of list just because Keyboard cover them... but search work if u tap Ok you should see them selected , I have to think a solution for that. Company phone is already show but u have to set Business Phone for Company contacts.. Letters on left side can be touched with stylo... letter set focus in first item that start with that letter.

I see what your saying. But still, when im at the top of the list than type Z on the keyboard, the list still doesn't scroll down to focus on that contact.
The phone number for the company in my contacts is put in the "Company tel." spot. This app can't read the company tel?
The letters on the side of the screen are too small to have real functionality. They are too hard to tap.

Will this work on WM2003?

I have TyTN with WM6 so it's not working properly I hope you'll make it work on WM6 soon. I would like to see some feature I'm missing in both iContacts and your app could you make it neverending scrolling? I mean that when you go to the end of contacts (Z) and scroll down more it will take you to the beginning (A) and the same form beginning (A) to the end (Z)? I hope you'll understand what I mean

sorry guys I don't have a device with WM2003 and WM6 so i cannot test it on them, I can compile and run on emulator but it's not the same thing... btw I'll try only when WM5 version is complete.
@freeyayo50, search doesn't work inside items but always from first char... the control in Windows Mobile can't search into substring... that's sad but i can't do nothing, so if your friend is called Zack and you don't remenber is Lastname i suggest to change order from Last First to First Last and perform search with new order, i've attached a new version.

OK then, the original ROM release thread is getting a bit repetitive so if everyone replies here with their known bugs/problems to the "R0" release we'll be able to have a list of all the known bugs and have a clearer view of what is an actual bug and what's something more user/device related.

Regardless of the bugs, I do enjoy this ROM a lot allready. udK, keep up the good work!

if flash to another ROM (official rom), the udk syrius logo is still present in the beginning

1. Autofocus does not work.
2. Audiomanager stops work in sleep mode (S2P works perfect in sleep mode on R0)
3. Can not play movie in Photos and Videos tab.
4. Gestures in photos preview does not work at all.
5. Quick GPS stucks at 82% (probably because of new radio. Looks like HTC changes technology of satelite data update. Some where here was that it is only because of bad signature of update.)
6. Wifi problem (cannot turn on/off while using active sync)
7. Can not switch to 3G/2G band in usual way.

Cannot setiup hotmailn with windows live.
3G (HSPDA) is working fine but GPRS is not working, in the original rom both was wirking fine whatever signal was present. settings are correct.
Voice Dial is missing.

how many threads do we need for 1 ROM to report bugs! C'mon people use the original R0 thread to report your issues. It gets real crazy for a cook to have to go to multiple threads to see issues.
Hopefully a Mod will remove this thread....

I think its a good idea for this thread to be created, IF the first post is updated regularly so the GREAT Cooker UDK, can just watch 1 post despite 44 pages.
Also people please confirm the issues mentioned so that they can be confirmed as bugs. ForumUser please add only confirmed, by +3 people, issues to first post

you do have a valid point, but let me ask you this. I am sure you see so many new posts being created that it pushes other posts to other pages. In that scenario it might make it hard to keep track or rather easy to lose threads... if its all in one place this isnt as likely to happen..

Theres about 40 pages in the R0 thread all repeating the same bugs , threads like these are a good idea if used properly and the first post updated

Thank you all for your input so far. We got quite a list. I have some spare time, so I put them together in the second post. I hope .ForumUser doesn't mind, perhaps he can help with the first post to keep it updated and to have enough space for the possibility of even a longer 'wishlist'

so far things that i've noticed that have been mentioned are:

These are just some minor bugs that i've experienced or seen people write about. Personally i'm loving this ROM and most of these bugs aren't really bothering me. I think UDK is the man!!!

What is this ?
This is a little application that will simulate key presses (on the D-pad) or scroll while you tilt your device. It will soon be usable in many games (e.g. racing games where it isn't really great to use the D-Pad). It is actually usable with a lot of desktop-softwares, like Manila, etc...
The application is at its very first beta release now and so you WILL encouter bugs and IT WONT be stable so try it if you want to but don't wine, instead post constructive suggestions, please.
Here is some explanations about the control panel:
Application name: This is where you introduce the application's name (the one which appears on the top of the window)
Tilt key: Which key the software simulates when you tilt your device to the left. The tilt side never changes, even if you rotate your device. It is based on when you hold your device in portrait mode flat down.
Tilt sensivity: this is a number (between 0 and 100) setting the tilting minimal for the action to be sent. The more you're close to 0, the more sensitive it will be. If you set it to 100, it will never trigger.
Interval: the interval at which keys are pressed. This means that if you set it too low, while tilting your device, a lot of keys will be sent. It is calculated in milliseconds. So if you set it to 1000, when you tilt your device, it will simulate 1 press per second, per key. Setting it low enough is useful for games, for example.

Not much of new features here, basically improved a little the GUI (and a new image, thanks again to SkizZO).
Improved memory handling of the app and general performance.
Fixed many memory leaks which would slow down your device a lot if you used the software during long time.
This is, in my opinion, the first version where we begin towards perfectionning the application.

But, I like to have default orientation when device is vertically, i'm standing and looking onto it.
Better yes, when it is slightly diagonal, like holding it naturally.
I think it should
:notice a certain minimal speed and direction of changing orientation.
:use that to press the button, and keep pressing it while
:the software checks if the orientation has changed. If it did, stop repeating.
What would be the effect:
when I hold the device and move it with some speed a bit backwards the scrolling/moving starts, until I take it back.

The 2nd post has been modified as you can see and your suggestions will be implemented.

Ok Guy, i've tried it Good Work Man. if you permit, i'll suggest some things:
-A process/window title catcher
-An exportable list of windows/processes
-A way to assign "general settings" or specific setting, to every windows/process.
....and a repeat rate of the up/down/left/right keystrokes sending by the movement,(naturally assignable into general & specific settings)
...if the settings for each app are stored into the exported list, we can also exchange our configurations.

If you have tried to play a game needing left and right key on an HTC Touch Diamond, you noticed that they are 2mm wide and if you click next to it, you get back to home page or to dialing menu etc...
So I've written a prog allowing you to lock these 4 keys actions and replace it by classical key event (VK_LEFT, VK_RIGHT, ...).
In that way you can play tetris, and use "Pick-Up" and "Hang-Up" keys for going left and right.
Link ->: DredSensor
To use it, you need:
1) An HTC Touch Diamond (it's the only one i have so i can't test it on other models)
2) Install the .cab
3) Reboot your HTC
4) Run a game (or app or ...)
5) Get your stylus out and back-in, in less than 1 second
6) Click "Yes"
----- A config window opens:
7) Check that Type = "HardKeySimul"
8) Click "Ok"
Now you can use (and eventually assign) your 'Home', 'Back', 'Pick-Up' and 'Hang-Up' keys in that game/app.
Actually, the 'Pick-Up' and 'Hang-Up' keys are always defined as Left and Right events.
Have fun.
Ps:
For people interested, the other "Type" in the config window are:
- "Launcher": allow you to quicklaunch 4 app (that you define in the config wnd) when you double tap (not click, just tap) on one of those 4 keyz
- "Scroll": allow you to scroll the current window by tapping those 4 keyz panel
- "KeySimul": allow you to send left/right/up/down events by tapping those 4 keyz panel

In fact if you launch /Program Files/DredSensor/DredSensorCfg.exe, you can edit the "Default" config that applies every time no other config matches...
So if you set the Default config in "Launcher" mode, you can quicklaunch app from everywhere...
Actually, the Launcher mode works with "double tap" rather than click. But i can update it quite easyly to make it work on click if you want.

Dredger, can't wait to try this. This is my biggest gripe when playing games, and I didn't even think to post on here to see if someone could come up with something. I'll test today and let you know how it works!

A very nice and welcome idea. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with my Raphael. Tried it with Kevtris: succesfully installed, soft-reset, started the game, and configured DredSensor for the game, but when I push e.g. the phone up key, it still brings up the phone application. I didn't change any of the settings in the DredSensor config screen (I did check that "HardKeySimul" was selected).
Hope you can make it work for Raphael too, it is so annoying trying to play games with the d-pad, when you accidentally press the home/phone/etc. keys all the time.

Sorry, i only have an HTC Diamond so unless you offer me a Raphael or HD, it's quite hard for me to check anything.
For the touch HD, maybe you should download HTCAPI.DLL somewhere, put it in /Windows and try again.
For the Raphael, on the related article on gadgetmix.com (see 1st post for the link), it seems it works on HTC Touch Pro so it should work on yours.

Sorry, i think i don't understand exactly what you would like to do...
Start, Ok etc are default functions on that buttons so you have nothing to do to get them doing that...

Hey! This looks like a really good program idea. Its not all that simple to figure out. I'm also not too sure there is an alternative way to customize the program.
Once I had it figured out, it works really well. Kudos for the update. My Diamond is getting much more reading use now. I just found that the d-pad was pretty much useless until now.
Also kudos on the stylus idea. Pretty nifty way to activate the menu.
Two thumbs up. I'm looking forward to any updates in the future.

Well, maybe they're using another ROM or something. Are you sure they tested it with a Raphael? Maybe they just tested it with a Diamond and presumed it would work on a Raphael (I'm not familiar with the site, so I don't know what devices they're using).
Anyhow, after some more testing, it is actually partly working. That is, sometimes the phone/hang up buttons work as left/right, sometimes they don't. With the phone button it's about 50 % working, 50 % not (in Kevtris). For some reason the hang up button is working more frequently, something like 80 % working, 20 % not.
Also tried it with another game - Marble Worlds 2 demo - again only a part of the key presses are registered correctly.
I understand it's hard for you to test anything when you don't have a Raphael, but if I can do anything to help (apart from donating my Raphael to you ), just ask.

You probably run another program that uses the same sensor API and that conflict with DredSensor.
Don't you have G-Scroll or something similar installed?

Is it possible to assign the home and back hardware button to make left and right soft keys?

On my Raphael program works perfectly. My ROM is PROven ROM 1.09 PLK.

Not in that first version but as it seems people find it usefull, i'll probably update it to let you choose which key or app-launch you affect to each button.

When you do that, can you consider left and right softkeys? That'd be a significant advantage, as I find the lack of the two keys annoying in some apps (esp java ones).
On a side note, does the software poll for input? While I doubt it would affect the battery that much, I'll probably limit my usage to be on the safe side.

So if I understand, you'd like the possibility to simul left or right softkey by clicking on 'Home' and 'Back' for example?
On the side note, it doesn't poll for input, but it polls every second to check which app is on the foreground. The input job is event based.

two little apps: automatic rotation & wifi/display stay active - update 28/12

The Mega is my first smartphone, and thanks to xda I found lots of usefull info and apps to customize it just like i want
I think now it's time to share some apps I did mostly for my own use, but maybe usefull for some other people.
Well, here are two simple applications:
RotateMon
- The first, "rotatemon" (stupid name I know... ) is designed to run invisible in background and simply rotate the screen to landscape if one the following apps are launched: sms /mms ; opera mobile 10 and notes (notes.exe)
When you exit the app, the screen is restored to previous orientation. (meaning if you already are in landscape, you will stay in landscape)
I did this app because i couldn't found something doing this the way i want. I know there are mortscript scripts to do this, but not exactly like this. (and there's a problem with tmail.exe with this method, because mortscripts checks if a windows exist, but sometimes tmail.exe runs in background with the same window title "SMS / MMS" as the active window, so we must check if it is really active or in background...)
I know it's possible too to assign a long key press to the action "rotate sceeen", but I was tired of long pressing this key everytime i launched opera or the sms program...
Well just try it if you want, and let me know what you think about it, it's very usefull for me, maybe for you too
You can launch it at startup like I did (for example with sktools or something equivalent).
Please understand that I did it for myself, so it's "customized" for me (the apps that are monitored to trigger the rotation). If it is usefull for someone else I'll be happy to provide a more "user friendly" version (with the ability to configure what apps are monitored for example). Don't hesitate to ask
StayAlive -update 28/12/2010: now with a nice interface, install cab, more user friendly -
Another very simple program, designed to keep wifi "alive" even when the device is in sleep mode. It's a simple switch: ON/OFF, based on the registry key Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms\HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended , you can switch the "StayAlive state" when wifi is on or off, doesn't matter, and the state is keep after a soft reset.
This tool can the display alive too, it provides a simple switch On/OFF to keep the display alive (doesn't prevent locking, well sometimes it locks and sometimes not, don't really know why..., but the screen stay on). Please note that the screen will not stay on at full backlight level, it will stay on at the "lower" backlight level (to prevent too much power drain...)

You just have to delete the program folder. If it's running, kill it with a taskmanager before of course (or soft reset). If you put it in your startup, remove it before, then kill the process or soft reset, then delete the folder.
No modifications are made to the system

Hi seb3773 I like you rotatemon very much. It is what I need, but since I have used Swype I had to turn it off. When the screen rotate my swype keyboard don't rescale well and the screen is cut out on te right side.
I would be grateful if you could disable sms rotation in your program?
or maybe some "user friendly" version above-mentioned?
