Happy New Year All!
I am buying a Fuze today and am now ordering all my accessories on ebay.
I have a question about the stylus, and I hope you can help:
Do you know if the stylus is magnetic, or if the Fuze is magnetic?
Some ebay sellers mention that the HTC Touch Pro Stylus is "magnetic", but others do not mention this.
If you can point me in the right direction, that would be great. I'd hate to buy one that isn't 'magnetic', and have it slide out.
...Or, is that nonsense, and the magnet is in the device itself.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
I do believe that all touch pros have the magnetic stylus...
Uh...I don't know how to explain it...
Well, this guy who did the review is sort of an idiot about it so don't listen to too much of what he says, just watch what he does. I hope it will explain it better:
http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=CZlsH4I43xw
At 2:23 it starts to talk about the stylus. The magnet is there to keep the stylus in the device, since the guy doesn't have a clue.
Oh, and the Touch Pro is essentially the same as the FUZE just a different keyboard layout, I believe.(If you didn't already know that...)

Both are..................................
The stylus is magnetic.
There is also a sensor that can detect stylus removal. Some people have it so it launches "Notes" or whatever else they want.
Removing the stylus turns the screen on...
Really all sorts of stuff. The phone will react differently in some cases vs having it seated. Pretty neat.
Do you know if the stylus is magnetic, or if the Fuze is magnetic?
Initially thought it was a situation where a strong magnet in the stylus bay Magnetized the actual stylus if you pulled it in & out a number of times.
Now tend to accept the idea that there is some magnetic properties to each: just for kicks tried placing an Appropriately Sized nail into the stylus bay, and while it DID seem to be attracted to the bay it certainly did NOT "snap" in the way the Fuze stylus does...
BTW, why do you feel you need an extra Stylus right away? The Fuze shipped with 2, and with the magnetic bay it does seem likely that they would get lost in a hurry....
I concur, the stylus seem to me that the stylus has the stronger magnet of the two, but both are magnetized.
Also like it was mentioned, the systems work quiet well and I don't see how you would loose the two stylus in a short period of time, unless you drop it or something...
i dont know if the phone itself is magnetic but the stylus is for sure..and its quite strong too...i put it on my pc's case and it needed quite some force to remove
i dont know wether this is with all touch pros, but with mine you can screw off the black upper part of the stylus with a longer inner part, then you can see the magnet in the inner part...

After losing my stylus I bought a couple of new one on ebay; but all of those were pieces of ****.
I finally bought the official pack (with 3 stylus, way more expensive) and those are far better. Too bad that HTC didn't bundle a spare stylus with the touch pro as they did with the tytn II =/
I can also confirm that the stylis is magnetic and not the phone.
the stylus conveniently sticks to the side of the phone so you can have an extra hand on the fly

Is anyone experiencing this problem. I have now lost my fourth stylus. The slightest knock will dislodge the stylus whilst on the belt clip. Because the xda 11 will now swivel around due to the location of the clip, stylus will fall from unit. Anybody got sources for replacements?
I haven`t lost one yet but
I must amid, these things are lovely to eat , as they are so much smaller and tinner than the IPAQ ones. And they also make a lovely toothpic.
And of course of the perfect shape at the top, they are the ultimate tool to clean out your....
Same here im on my 3rd. I have purchased more from www.pdaaddons.com
I have had mine for a little over a week and have already lost one stylus.
Looks like I will be reverting to my Rotring 600 Trio as I find the stylus way to tiny in any case.
http://www.styluscentral.com/rotring600trio.html
I tried www.pdaaddons.com but they don't mentiona stylus for the xda2.
Stylus XDA II PLUS pen!
I know ink is soooo passé...
but I got a stylus that has a dead handy ink-pen inside from brando.com!
Refills very cheap too! Very quick delivery from Hong Kong.
Tightening up the Sytlus Holder
Is ther any way to do this?
Kind regards
Alan
I have noticed that the ones o2 uk shops sell are slightly thinner than the original one that came with my XDA2, and keeps slipping out, could try some blue tack to hold it in place!!!
try ebay.
A lot of compnies are offering styli in 3-pack, which gives you 2 spares!
ccc
The trick is not to loose it!
Needs to fit better
After losing two styluses, I bought a stylus with a built-in pen at the other end. To keep from losing this stylus, I modified the XDA II case. I cut the transparent hard plastic packaging material of the stylus and attached it using electrical tape to the top of the XDA II leather case. The plastic is now blocking the path of the stylus. There is no way now for the stylus to fall unless I open the case.
I don't like cases so I don't have that option. I was wondering if there was a way to modify the silo or perhaps put some sort of compression spring/washer in the grove at the bottom end of the stylus

Real Filipino inguinity.. hehehehehe...
Almost lost my sytlus two days ago, its a good thing that I remembered that I tried to get the stylus out while in the car but had to stop because my XDA2 fell in the floor. After 2 hours my friend noticed that the stylus is missing, took me a few minutes before I remembered the attempt that I made while inside the car... hehehe.. almost made me angry at the thought of losing the stylus...
Hi all, I have broken the plastic part off the stylus...again
Anyone know if there is a solid stylus available instead of the poorly designed stylus supplied. Yes I know it is because they had to make it black to match the case, but I would have rather had a silver coloured stylus that lasted.
Why they didn't make a completely solid stylus I don't know; other than to generate sales of stylus pens, but they wouldn't do that would they?
I've even thought about manufacturing some to sell. Would anyone buy such a thing? :?:
funny you mention it, i had to do stylus repairs last night,
the black bit has started to come out of ppc without the rest of the stylus attached,
Tools used for repair : part of a rizla.
I teared enough rizla off to do one lap around the stylus, after licking the gum of course, then banged the black bit back in, now i cant seperate them so i think ive done enough for it to last a while longer now
Maybe you can try one of the replacement styli. The one with a ballpen on one end which translates to THE BALCK PART REALLY IS REMOVABLE so you cannot really BREAK it and not put it back. It's a ballpen cap

I'm using that pen/stylus now and another advantage (as was noted on another post in here somewhere) is that the pen/stylus is much more secure in the device than the original stylus. I never had the original one fall out like some have metioned, but now there's not rattle either.
I don't know it the loose fitting stylus was unique to a particular branding, but I have the i-mate Jasjar.
where do you get one of these stylus pens please?
I dunno if this is what kelfor has but you can check www.ppctechs.com or www.expansys.com or any other PDA online shops.
hi all just a follow-up to this post I purchased some styli from expansys, the package was damaged and looked old, or at least poorly stored, 2 came broken the other was fine, I also bought some finger styli for my father - dads and gadgets eh! anyway 2 were missing and again the box looked old and tatty. I reported this and instead of sending me replacements they gave me a refund, they didn't seem at all bothered about it, so I took my business to eBay. I won't be buying from expansys in a hurry.
eBay on the other was excellent bought it from china and was delivered faster than expansys; top service.
PS: stylus and exec are doing fine and I'm really impressed with the xda exec update from O2, it works better than when I had the corp install running.
I purchased one of the ones with a ball-point pen in it, and it was such a bad fit that i had to use a pair of needle-nosed pliers and a lot of force to get it out again!

I lost one the other day somewhere around my local Tesco's!... Perhaps thats why they ship with a spare
The only one I've broken so far is the stylus-tip off of a $10 ballpoint one. The ballpoint and top's fine, but I can't use it *as* a stylus anymore. Dropped it onto tile floor in the line at the local supermarket... Oops. Meanwhile, the glue holding the black top bit in my original stylus has come loose, but it's still a tight wenough fit that the stylus works properly. Since I have an MDA Pro, I'd prefer a silver coloured tip anyway.
ther is an all metal 1 floating about, its a nice black 1, cant mind wer i seen it though, but ther is 1 out ther!
I'm hoping someone might have a helpful suggestion other than "take it apart." I've been using a stylus / pen that I got off ebay. The ball point pen is hidden under a cap at the opposite end of where the stylus point is.

It works great except that the cap came off while the stylus was inside my advantage --- and now, I can't get the stylus out. It's stuck, and there's no way to reach in and get it.
Any thoughts??
Thanks
I think you could put some glue (very little) inside the cap and then put it (the cap) into the HTC stylus hole. After a time take it out and then try to remove the glue (dissolving or smthg like that). Peter.
Thanks, I'll try that!

Just be careful not to touch the sides while sliding the pen in, or it will get very messy in there and harsh when the glue dries and come time to put a new stylus in. Thanks for the heads up because I was going to purchase a pack of 3 in 1 pens. I won't now due to the fact that it can come apart.

WOW!! IT WORKED!!!! THANKS!
Of course, do what you think is best, but I'm going to keep using it. I think the fault was mine, not the pen's.
THANKS AGAIN!
Does that stylus actually fit completley into your advantage? I have the exact same 3 pack sitting at home, ordered off ebay, and its just not capable of fitting into the slide on the advantage. Not to mention how shoddy the quality appeared to be with regards to how the 3 pieces stick together. I mean its obvious when you mix metal with plastic threads...things are gonna work loose very quickly. Anyway, I just ordered a 3 pack of 3in1 stylus from expansys that they are advertising as an exact fit, made specifically for the advantage, as well as a 3 pack of oem stylus just to make sure heh.
I am looking at purchasing this case i was wondering if anyone could give me the run down on it? I ended up buying a tilt becuase i am a tech fan and a hoobiest programmer, a gadget lover, im not a buisness man. I am a commercial electrition during the day and drive pizzas at night. I really love the tilts gps and i use it to listen to podcasts and internet radio in the car. I currently own a leather belt clip case i keep the tilt in most of the time, but im looking for a case solution when im out doing elctrical work. This includes anything from pulling huge cables to digging ditches.
I usually end up going through phones twice a year i beat them up at work pretty bad. I wont be using this monaco as a primary case just while im out in the field. I bascially just need to use my kaiser as a phone and maybe some texting when its in this case. I found the case here http://www.tiltdepot.com/att-tilt-metal-cases.htm the review said it limits the touch screen functionality. So what im wondering is will i be able to still use the creen i mean i just need to be able to use handwriting recognition and some acuall touch support in spb shell and finger based vistual KB's. How does this limit the touch screen?
aA;so how much bulk does this add becuase im also going to need to put the phone in a pouch or something to keep dirt out of the buttons.
I don't have any experience with this case to share I'm afraid. One of the common complaints with metal cases is signal attenuation. You might want to look at one of the Otterbox cases, but you'll still have to pull it out to use the keyboard.
hey buddy. I got a metal case from an australian company called pdair. I've had it since i bought the phone a couple of months ago. It's saved it many times and it doenst hurt the signal at all. BUT, it does have a polycarbonate cover so it does hurt the touchscreen function, but i just use the D-pad anyway. http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000164&products_id=6561
Is the outter box 8000 the one for the tilt? can you hear the phone ring in the outerbox.
Christian see im just wondering if the touchscreen works at all how much does it impair the phone? Im not really worried about the signal anyways im not going to be using the phone in this case all the time. I dont plan on surfing the net or anything while im trying to pull wires down 4 stories of building. Just need to be able to send or recive calls and texts. I think i could deal with flipping the case open and using the keyboard but im still curious how well the touch screen works.

in short I say buy this case. I have this same monaco case and I love it. I work in a warehouse mostly sometimes on a roof helping install solar panels and such, much the same as you im sure with the wire everything from #12 to 600mil. I don't do a lot of pulling but am around it all day and conduit and a forklift oh you get te picture.
this case provides the most protection I can imagine and still have the phone functionable. my case hase seen the concrete from about 10 ft and no problems. scratches of coarse but phone was un harmed.
in short great case great protection and a great buy for me I purchased mine about 2 months ago and I paid $14 or so pre ship on ebay.
get it you won't regret it.
(if you do ill buy it from you)
hope this helps.
mrphat, can you still use the touchscreen at all?? that is what i really want to know, how much it limits the touch screen.
I mean im going to need a tuff case no matter what, not so worried about dropping it, but sliding 4 750s over leg while they get tugged down a pipe is enough to crack the screen in a leather case.
The Pdair case protects/covers the whole phone(including touchscreen) but leaves the access features accessible (i.e. D-pad, answer/end buttons, stylus. etc). You can hear the phone very well and at work i just use the D-pad to answer the phone. Since i have an S2U2 all i do is get it out of standby and i can check quick vitals that way. . Whenever i get a text or something like that, i just open the case and use the phone that way.
After looking at the monaco case, it's EXACTLY the same as the pdair case. Both are aluminum and both have the polycarbonate screen protector.
thanks thats what i really needed to know
I originally bought an aluminum case for my Tilt because I wanted the extra protection. In my experience:
* All of the aluminum cases I've seen appear to be pretty much the same. eBay is littered with them for about a quarter of the price that Tilt Depot is charging. Search "Tilt aluminum case"
* You can use about 90% of the device's features with the Dpad and other keys, but you can't dial the phone without opening the cover.
* I did experience about a one-bar loss in signal with the phone in the case vs. the phone not in the case.
* The case that I had was slippery as heck. I wound up attaching a wrist strap to the phone and would never use the device without strapping in first.
* The aluminum case is a little bulky.
I switched to a rubberized case and don't miss the aluminum nearly as much as I thought I would.
You probably need the extra protection for your day job, and the aluminum case will certainly provide it. Trust me, though, trying to flip open the cover and dial the phone one-handed while you're driving is a huge pain in the rear, not to mention dangerous.
well what about these outerbox cases can you hear the phone ring will they fit in your pocket?
I mean im going to have to keep the aluminum case in a pouch anyways beacuse i work in palm springs wich is all desert and any underground work is in sand, so i have an issue with dirt getting in the buttons too. If im going to be taking the phone out of a case to dial might as well take it out of one instead of two.

questions been pretty much answered I guess and yes the case needs to be opened to use the touch screen , but trust me it is easy to get acustomed to. as the poster said a few posts up it does work well with s2u2 and the dpad.
forgive me if im wrong but is there a otterbox case made for this device specifically?. I know the ones I've seen are pretty generic and very bulky.
I have mine in the case and I purchased a leather pouch for a BB Curve from the Dollar Tree for a buck its real cheap fake leather so I bought like 4 of them. I just slide it in there. the belt clip is sturdy but doesent allow you to set it down and use it. maybe this helps ?
I also agree that pretty much all of the cases (aluminum) are the same I just happen to own the monaco.
Hi Guys
Looking for a Stylus replacement for my tegra note after my little girl bit off the rubber on the end. Any suggestions??
If you find one let me know. I wanted to buy the pro stylus as I miss the thin end for writing but its kind of unicorn everybody talk about it but no stock available.
Have you tried contacting the store where you bought it from? They might be able to buy it for you directly from the manufacturer as a spare part.
Or you might have luck contacting the manufacturer directly, perhaps they have the possibility to sell spare parts directly to customers.
In Uk I have asked in PC World (as Advent is their sub-company) if they have them/will have/can order and the answer was "no". Also I have contacted EVGA EU (as their US store had them for a while but will not ship outside US) if they are going to have them the answer " no".
someone was selling them on ebay for about 15 quid IIRC
the homecare branded covers and styluses are available.
I don't think the rubber is that important but the funny core piece is so it might me feasible to make a replacement.
PC world must have spare stock instore to deal with people nicking the styluses off the display models I would have thought
doing a quick search and newegg have them but wont ship to the UK so you need a postal buddly
I am looking for one too. I have the pro stylus and while it is fine, the rubber tips wear out very quickly. And either I can not find them in stock anywhere, or they are like $35 (Insane) So I have been looking at the more main stream ones, like for the surface tablets, or similar to see if any work and have not had any luck so far.
So I am hoping someone out there can find a suitable replacement for our styluses?
Okay, I ordered this one from Ebay. It works okay, not perfect, but certainly good enough for what I need it for. It is a hard plastic tip, not a rubber one, so it does have a different feel. Since it is hard, occasionally the tablet will skip a beat sensing it. But again, for the price it does work to write notes on this tablet with. Be prepared for a 30 day wait on delivery though.

Hey there
How about other styluses like adonit jot or anything else
Anybody ever tried? I find the supplied tip very soft
Used to use wacom hard tip
Does it response with those batteried active stylus (not asking about pressure sensitivity)
And.....a tip
You can get "pressure sensitivity" effect by those cheap blunt rubbery head styluses.
Just a reminder that any standard pencil (mechanical pencils usually won't work) will also work as a stylus, though without pressure sensitivity. They work beautifully, and they won't hurt or mark the screen at all. I never use the included stylus any more. If you want the best option, check the drafting section at your local office supply store for some solid graphite pencils; they work the best, plus they're just really cool.
This is where I got mine in the UK

I'm using a graphite pencil now it works really well. Easier to hold than the stylus that came with my tegra. I've also put a screen protector on it so I'm not worried about marks on it.

I just purchased a set of standard wooden pencils and a set of 3 solid graphite pencils (HB),
both sets work but is somewhat hit and miss whether they work or not. I also found that the tip of a screwdriver
works fine (but not suggesting that you use that permanently). Best item that I've found is the back-end of the
standard wooden pencils, works like a charm without any skipping. What I want now is one of those little diary
pencils that I can jam into the stylus slot.
EDIT: Painted rounded solid wooden pencil end, not eraser

You've probably already tried this, but make sure your screen is clean if you're using pencils. The tip is so small (that's what she said) that any oil or dirt on the screen can interfere with the touch sensor. You also have to dull the point a bit; I sharpen a pencil and then scribble all over a piece of paper to round the edge down, and then it works like a charm!
I had originally not taken the point down enough (too sharp) and that was the cause of skipping, with a rounded tip
the solid graphite pencil works just fine. I also chopped off about 1/3 of the back end and ground a fat chisel edge
somewhat similar to the back end of the Nvidia stylus. (I take it that some have yet to find that both ends of the stylus
work, and the fat end is great for use in the Tegra Draw app, took me about 3 months to find out the thick end also works).
I still kinda like the fat end of a rounded painted pencil, smoother than the solid graphite pencil and not as hard (less of a ding as you stab at the screen). Strangely, a straight cut pencil end does not seem to work at all, the only ones that did have been
rounded end and painted, think the paint must be relevant for some reason.
Is there a cheap stylus pen that can be found on ebay or dx.com that would work as the original pen? In case one needs a replacement other than the original pen.
Anyone ever tried this one?

At $35, it looks rather expensive.
You can buy them direct from Nvidia as "Shield Direct Stylus 2" and on Amazon as "NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Stylus".
