Light Sensor is PI**ING ME OFF!! - Touch HD General

the light sensor on the hd is really getting to me. i am watching a video on the iplayer using the hd and brightness goes from dark to bright vice versa. is there any way of turning that off. this does not happen when i am watching a video in the night. only in the day as the sun is shining on it. is there no way to turn that off?

Go to the Backlight tab on the power settings screen...

Tap on the battery icon on the top bar, tap on the second tab, uncheck the auto lightings.

[Q] Streak screen backlight - LED or CCF?

Does anybody know if backlight is LED or CCF? I am planing on leaving Streak's screen permanently ON (low brightness) overnight as an alarm clock, and that would eventually kill CCF lamp, but should be OK for LED.
Thanks!
Hey up. the clock app in 2.2 has a brightness button that seems to turn the backlight off, and its a pretty nice screen too. should be ok.
You have to leave the screen on to use it as an alarm clock?
Yes
Yes, I would prefer to see the time when I wake up (sometimes) in the middle of the night. LEDs have practically unlimited life, usually 50-100K hours, but cold cathode fluorescent lamps loose brightness with time.
I'm sure no modern phone uses a cold cathode.

[Q] Ambient light sensor problem

I recently aquired this phone, brand new too! Bought unbranded of course, and fully unlocked etc etc..
Problem is, when i sit in my couch at night, with my light turned on, bout 50-80cm away, that light is bright enough to fool the sensor to think im outside in full sunlight or something, cuz the "white light" in the home, menu, back, search button lights up for 1 second about, then shuts off, and dont come back on, unless i turn off the light, or hold my fingers above the top part of the screen, then it turns on, and stays on, untill i remove my hand or turn on the light, and then it shuts off after 1-2 seconds again...
Is there a way to either disable this ambient light sensor, or change its sensitivity to light... Cuz this is crazy!
Is it supposed to do that ? I think it's broken.
I have no such problem with my phone.

Go to Menu -> Settings -> Display -> Brightness -> uncheck the automatic brightness! this should fix your problem!
I dont think its actually broken though... I just realised that my HTC Desire is acting the same after the latest update, well, maybe the wildfire is just a tad more sensitive.. But if i fx just have one of the lamps on, then it activates after 1 second... :| Stupid sensitivity!!

Already done! The phone switched brightness settings too damn often for me to be sane! So that setting got torn off about 1 min after the phone was done updateing to latest kernl.

Auto brightness only brightens, never dims

I noticed that the brightness only brightens but never dims back in automatic brightness display setting. I can reproduce this easy with turning the lamp on my desk on and off. It only goes back to the lower brightness if turning the screen off and on again.
Noticed this too but seems to only occur when I use a widget to toggle between Auto and 100%.
If I leave the setting in Auto from within settings then it seems to work. Brightness widgets seem to break the auto functionality.
Hmm, I don't use a brightness widget. The light of the softbuttons go on if I cover the light sensor, but the screens stays in high brightness.

Must be an all around bug then. If you turn the Atrix off and back on then the auto brightness functionality is restored.

This must be an Android thing. My Atrix does the same thing, as did the Nexus One I had before. I've had several (high end) Nokia's that dimmed/brightened perfectly. After 5 seconds, they would brighten (or dim) accordingly. I was hoping Motorola was better at making phones than HTC (the KING of bad battery life). We ALL lose here. Our precious battery life is being drained by the poor execution of a simple function.
This is a stock android thing (problem). Custom ROMs can allow it to dim and change brightness smoothly rather than in discrete steps (Cyanogen).
That's what I thought. I found this free app called "esdimmer". It supposed to be for Galaxy phones, but it's somewhat working on my Atrix. Does this function work any better in Gingerbread?

Well it's good to hear that it's a stock android problem and not the actual phone. I did find a way to get around this problem but it's very limited. You can get the screen to dim by first putting the phone into standby and then press the standby button once again (which gets you into the lock screen). You'll notice that the screen then dims (if coming from a well lit area/room to a darker one).

AOD way too dark outside - any fix?

The always on display screen is just way too dark and I'm outside in the sunlight. I can't read it at all. Everything else is fine, normal phone screen brightness is just right. Is there a way to adjust brightness of the AOD display at all?

I just recently turned mine off because of this. If I leave my phone face down it is too dark when I pull it up to see the time etc. If I left it screen up it would be at a very high brightness. It just adjusts to the situation slowly.
Thanks....I actually didn't see any response from the AOD to get brighter in sunlight...maybe I didn't wait long enough, but I waited a lot longer than I thought I should need to. Are you sure the AOD screen has any reaction at all to ambient lighting?
Yes it does effect it if it's on. Just put a finger over the sensor and it will dim

Samsung S10+ Proximity Sensor issue

I would like to tell you that it often happens when I pull the S10+ out of my pocket, so the display is not in "stand by" mode, it is not always on display, but it is slightly backlit. Classically, the display is black and shines only AOD. But when I pull it out of my pocket, instead of the classic AOD it shines for hours and even seconds and after them you can see the wallpaper of the locked display and it is slightly backlit. The display itself is dark, but it is slightly backlit and you can see the wallpaper. With the classic AOD, the display is completely black and I have set only hours, minutes, date and battery, and of course, the notification, if any. Does anyone know what it is, whether it can be turned off so that the display does not illuminate the pocket?
I have accidental touch protection on.
As far as I know proximity sensor is only accessible when you are in call, that's why other apps can't access it.
Samsung should remedy this. Because I always change the Always On setting in my pocket. Specifically - Rotation and Brightness Always On.
EDIT: It happens most when I tap wake-up.
