[Q] Ambient light sensor problem - Wildfire General

I recently aquired this phone, brand new too! Bought unbranded of course, and fully unlocked etc etc..
Problem is, when i sit in my couch at night, with my light turned on, bout 50-80cm away, that light is bright enough to fool the sensor to think im outside in full sunlight or something, cuz the "white light" in the home, menu, back, search button lights up for 1 second about, then shuts off, and dont come back on, unless i turn off the light, or hold my fingers above the top part of the screen, then it turns on, and stays on, untill i remove my hand or turn on the light, and then it shuts off after 1-2 seconds again...
Is there a way to either disable this ambient light sensor, or change its sensitivity to light... Cuz this is crazy!

Is it supposed to do that ? I think it's broken.
I have no such problem with my phone.

Go to Menu -> Settings -> Display -> Brightness -> uncheck the automatic brightness! this should fix your problem!

I dont think its actually broken though... I just realised that my HTC Desire is acting the same after the latest update, well, maybe the wildfire is just a tad more sensitive.. But if i fx just have one of the lamps on, then it activates after 1 second... :| Stupid sensitivity!!

Already done! The phone switched brightness settings too damn often for me to be sane! So that setting got torn off about 1 min after the phone was done updateing to latest kernl.

Screen goes dim after a while

Hi,
i have a problem with my three days old HD. Besides the fact it seems to be much slower than it should be, the problem is the screen goes dim after a while. I'm not talking about it going black after a while, like it's supposed to, but in normal working mode it just kinda becomes darker, kinda like notebook screen goes a little dim when you unplug it from power. When i turn it on, it looks ok, but after a while, mostly after it first time goes black due to inactivity, the screen looks dimmed, no matter what i do, and after a few minutes it returns to normal, without any apparent reason, kinda random. At first i thought it might be something in HDTweak, so i did the factory reset, but it's happening again. Any ideas?
Try disabling the light sensor. It is supposed to adjust the screen brightness automatically, depending on the external light conditions. You can disable it in 'Energy', under Start -> Settings.
Well, it sort of works. When i disable the light sensor, i get the screen for adjusting the light on battery and AC. When i adjust the slider for battery, the screen lights up and it's ok. But, the moment the device locks itself (via HDTweak setting, the only thing i adjusted in HDTweak, it dims, and when i unlock it, it's still dimmed. Then when i again go into light sensor setting and press on the slider, it lights up. I don't understand what's going on. Faulty device maybe?
Also try changing the settings in the advanced tab.
Adding a minute or reducing a minute here seems to kickstart the device - and the annoying screen dimming goes away.

Need a dimmer display backlight setting for wizard / imate kjam

Dear All, There are only 4 settings for display brightness (the first one turns it off), I need a MUCH dimmer setting while working in the dark. Spouse cant sleep with lights on! The lowest setting still strains my eyes. Any tweak?
One word: STOP.
Seriously, if you think you need to be working while you're laying in bed next to your spouse, you might want to take a hard look at your priorities! Trust me, she's not mad that you have a light on, she's probably mad that you'd rather poke at your phone than poke at her...
Put down the phone, and go to sleep, man! If you can't sleep, then go be annoying in another room of your home.
Also, no, I don't believe there's any way to dim the LCD without turning it off.

they are on by default over here..i haven't used android long enough to change the setting if it even has one so mine has to be default. I have my brightness set to auto but im pretty sure that was default also.

me neither :/
Mine also automatically lights up when I hit the power button. I have not done the OTA.
That's SO weird. After reading the title of this thread, a few seconds later, my lights stopped coming on, too.
Turned it off, pulled the battery, and now it works fine.
ya mine just randomly started working with no reboot ahah..how weird..now to get my ota >/ still havent got it yet
I just came in here to find this thread (how do you search in the XDA app??) because I am using my phone in the dark for the first time (hotel, trying not to wake my girlfriend) and my buttons weren't lighting up.
I did a quick Google search and found they won't light up if you turn the screen on when the phone is plugged in, and this is apparently by design.
For some reason mine never work in the morning in the dark (when I actually need them to), but they always work during the day. I figure there is just some bug with the light detector.
For those having issues with the lights not turning on, are you plugged into a USB cable? Mine do not turn in when a USB cable is plugged in, but they do otherwise.
Mine never turn on at all. They haven't since I got the phone. At first I thought it was by design then I realized how stupid that would be and looked it up. Sure enough here is the thread with people having the same problem...I'm on hold with HTC as we speak...
Capacitive Touch Buttons won't Illuminate
I found this thread in a Google Search and wanted to bump it:
I just picked up my white EVO today. I just noticed my capacitive touch buttons don't light up, though they do function. This makes the phone impossible to use in the dark. I was going to ask if this was a setting I was missing, but after reading this thread it seems like a small bug. Have anyone found out what the status is on a fix? thanks!
Ok guys I discovered that the button lights have a light sensor, this sensor is located under the earpiece speaker on the left side looking at the phone. If you have it plugged in you can cover the sensor up with your thumb and the lights will turn on. The lights also will not come if you are outside or in a well lit room. I hope this helps, and still dont know what to tell the OP as his happened in the dark.

Home, Menu, Back, Search lights are not on

The lights for the Home, Menu, back arrow, and search key only come on 40% of the time. Does anyone have information on how to fix this?
I assume its a hardware problem, I wish I had the option to turn mine off.
They only turn on in low light settings. Cover the light sensor and they will come on. There was a glitch so they didn't turn on when charging, but I think it was fixed (?).
The lights are tied to the ambient light sensor. They only come on when you are in a darkened room. Also, they don't come on when the phone is charging (at leasrt mine don't).

Just download the app "LEDs OFF" from the marketplace. It's quite useful and I use it just about every night when the lights are low and I want the device as dim as possible. If you have a problem with the lights flickering, you need to download the latest version of SuperUser... This is of course assuming your on a rooted device. Anyways, just thought I would throw my 2 cents in
My lights don't come on all the time either... Pretty sure its supposed to be that way... They always come on right after un lock and go off about 15 seconds later
Sent from the MATRIX... while plugged into my EVO... using the XDA app... from a galaxy far-far away.......
If you are charging the button lights generally don't come on.

Do you mean "LEDs Hack"? That's what I'm using and it works great when reading ebooks in bed.
I noticed the lights don't always come on on mine and I always wondered why this was.
Now that I think of it I suppose it's only when I'm charging, but it's quite annoying when you're used to hitting the glowing menu or back button!

screen stays black after standby

have android desire build on my hd2 and it works great...if i put my phone in standby for a few seconds it comes back on just fine but if its in standby for a few minutes only the keys light up and i have to pull the battery..i was reading some posts and thought i saw something about deleting the data.img....was wondering if this was the solution to the problem or something else..
If you have a black screen and the button lights are on, you can stick it under a bright light and turn it on. It should come on after that. If that's the case then turn off automatic brightness and see if that corrects the issue.
auto brightness wasnt on when i went to go change it...i flipped to it just to see if it would do it but it does the same thing..if in standby for too long, the buttons light up and the screen lights up black but thats it.
