USB Internet Sharing on MacOS X? - Mogul, XV6800 General

Is it possible to use the Internet Sharing program over USB on MacOS X? The Bluetooth sharing works fine, but I'd like to use USB so the phone's battery doesn't drain while I'm using it to access data.
If I plug it into USB on my Mac to power and try to use Bluetooth internet sharing, it does not work.
Thanks!

I use Eltima Syncmate to connect my PPC's to my mac.
There is a freeware version available but I don't think it does the internetsharing.
So you would have to buy the expert version if you want to use internet sharing.
I am using the expert version I got for free for participating in their beta program, and their site doesn't post an actual price for syncmate (their site only states: available for a small fee, and a small fee for one can be a small fortune for another ).
Syncmate is on my mac since one of the early beta's and I must say that the program matured quite since the initial launch, and I am quite satified (but hey, it didn't cost me anything).
Sorry I can't name you the price, but feel free to test the freeware version, maybe it's as usefull for you as it is for me.

Hello the-equinoxe, when you say Internet Sharing works on the expert edition of SyncMate, do you mean you're able to access the Internet on your phone via the Mac's Internet connection or is it the other way round? Just need to make sure before I actually make the purchase. Thanks!

Sorry for not being clear.
Yes, I meant surfing the internet on the phone by using the iMac's internet connection.
BTW Eltima is not quite clear on their site regarding it's price.
Would you be so kind tell it to us if you decide to buy the software?
Best regards,
EquinoXe

Don't think I'll be purchasing this since I cannot use my WM device to access the Internet on my Macbook, but if you want the price it's abt $40USD according to the following URL:
http://mac.eltima.com/mac-synchronizer.html

what i am wandering is that could I surfing the internet on my mac by using the phone's internet connection.

vogue and connecting to internet through bluetooth?

im new to any form of htc or palm(any windows based phone). my blackberry i could do a bunch of stuff without having internet through various simulators and whatnot. i was interested in getting the touch because i believed it had wifi, but know i realized that it doesnt(still havent purchased it.)
so my questions are
will the phone be able to receive a internet signal through bluetooth? as in i connect my phone to my macbook, i should receive a connection.
if i connect it to the computer via usb will i be able to download applications just like if i had the internet plan?? i really do not need the phone to be able to have internet at all times, just for downloading apps. i mainly use smartphones for there planning and scheduling abilities.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
just some side info, switching from sprint is not an option, nor is getting a information plan, as im a broke college kid.
Not sure about the bluetooth, it should be possible though.
As for the USB yes, infact if you are downloading applications do this over your regular internet if you don't have unlimited wireless internet from your provider. Applications can be quite big and you can hit your download limit very easily this way.
thanks a bunch, i went and checked the phone out today and i liked it a bunch. once again, and to not start another new thread thats probably answered somewhere, is it possible to send ringtones to the phone through usb?

Sure, you can do that and much more (including internet connection sharing) by USB or Blue Tooth, through ActiveSync...
great, oct 1st is the day...already bought a case and microsd card..

HTC announced the Touch 3g and Touch HD which look very similar to the Vogue. I'm not sure when these devices will be released but they have the features you seem to be looking for (WiFi). If you wait a little bit, you may, or may not be happier with the 3g or HD.
Just some information in case you never heard of these devices yet.
http://www.htc.com/www/default.aspx
EDIT: I am not sure about connecting a vogue to a mac, as it requires activesync to connect which is a Microsoft product. Most newer macs allow you to run windows xp, so it should be no problem. Also, when the phone is connected via USB, it will not use your regular DSL/Cable connection to access the internet. You will need to download the applications on your computer first, then transfer to the phone via activesync.
There's also the Mogul which is out now that has built in wifi. Prices are low and should be dropping as newer phones come out. Good for a broke college student.

Actually the phone can connect to the Internet via desktop DSL/Cable when they are USB linked.... but you'd never do that just to get apps on you phone. It's really only useful for syncing email to your phone when you don't have a data plan for the the phone.
Sprint HTC Touch internet thru bluetooth
So has anyone been able to figure out how to connect to the internet thru bluetooth to your PC/MAC? For example: If you are in an area that doesn't have cell coverage at all (Sprint or roaming) if you have an internet connection on your PC/MAC (DSL, Cable, etc.) can you connect to the computer thru bluetooth and access the internet on the Touch? It would be great for VOIP like Skype(out).
So I am not asking how to connect your computer to the internet thru your phone. Just the opposite, actually. Specifically asking for MAC.

Yeah, I read too quickly and missed the BT requirement.
I tether using bluetooth with my mac book, you can use Internet connection sharing or pda net, and use the btpan feature.

Linux LiveCD / WinMo 6.1 Internet Sharing

OK people, this might sound daft BUT I want to run LinuxLiveCD on my laptop while at work where the only internet is through my 3G on a Touch Diaomnd.
Now I know this work very well in vista, but is it even possible in linux (live or otherwise) if not can you think of any other solution?
The main reason I want to do this is to stop Windows et all, auto updating while I am on 3G (£££££££ ). The plan would be use Linux for booting into to do e-mail maybe a little light irc and some web browsing, then back to vista for music and movies and everything.
Well i hope I have explained this well enough
thanks all
I would suggest WMwifirouter. It circumvents needing to directly attach your phone to the computer by broadcasting a wifi network.
I've been using it for a few months with my eeePC and mogul. It's a lifesaver to have internet anywhere via a wifi network you carry in your pocket
Hmmm I think you missed the point, I want to connect WinMob to LinuxLive using the internet sharing, mind you thinking about it as I type you might be on to somthing
/me will investigate but would rather not have to buy software

Free USB Tether

Hi everyone,
Title should be pretty obvious.
I can't use Wi-Fi tethering because my work laptop doesn't allow me to connect to AdHoc networks (I'm assuming so at least because when I try to connect it tells me I'm not allowed to connect).
Anyway, I've searched around and most require you to install software, which is fine (ironically enough), but they want you to pay. Honestly, I'm not going to pay $10 for something I used to have for free on my WinMo phone and have for free with Wi-Fi (yeah, I'm cheap).
I'm currently using EasyTether Lite, which has been good so far, but it does mentioning purchasing the full version.
Does this mean it's trial based like PDAnet (what I was using before)? I need access to secure sites (VPN and such), so if this is not going to crap out on me soon, I'm fine sticking with this.
Otherwise, where can I find a free USB Tether program? I did find this thread, but it's asking me to install a bunch of stuff, and I'm hoping for a simpler solution. If that's the only way to do it for free, I guess that's what I'm going to have to do.
Thank you.

There is another way, fyi. P3Droid has a 3g wireless hotspot hack. It is not ad-hoc. It turns your phone into a real wireless modem. It is at MyDroidWorld. Try it, you may find it works. http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/android-hacks/5156-tbh-droid-3g-hotspot-nvram-hack.html

[Q] Tether instead of wifi???

Just wondering if there is a way to tether to a computer with a wired connection to get Internet connection that way, instead of using wifi??? There is lots of apps and stuff that need to connect to the internet to download, but I dont have the wifi's at home.
And if not, is it a hardware limitation, or software???
Handset in question is an Acer Liquid E
I've seen others ask this question & not get an answer that they wanted.
I'm not sure if its hardware, software or just lack of developer interest to create an app to do it.
The simple fact of the matter is that you can pick up a cheap router for $20 that'll solve the issue for you. It's not the solution you want, but it might be the only one available to you.
Heres another thread, it might have suggestions (or updates) that will be useful for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554852
you are right that is definately not the answer that Im looking for, as i have a good wireless router, but i live with a Internet Nazi that doesn't want to have wireless in the household.
But thanks for the link, I'll definitely check it out : )

The best I can recommend is having a wireless card in your laptop and creating a ad-hoc network, but if I am not mistaken, the ad-hoc network is not supported on a android device.
You could always do a quick search for some software on the internet that support it, but good luck with that.
You could always convince the internet nazi to use mac address filtering on the router to ensure that only the devices you use are allowed to connect.
Don't know anything about your phone, but both WM and Android phones gladly hooks up to a comp using USB-wire (which is faster than any wireless).
WM6.5 have a program icon called Internet sharing something.
while Android got a pay/trial app called Easy Tether that for the same job.
Be aware that some provider do not allow hooking-up a computer on some cellphone plans, call your provider and ask them.
Using both a X10 Mini(Android) and a M1i Aspen(WM6.5) connected by wire both for file transfer peer2peer and Internet access.
Also there are Bluetooth and a possibility to remove the memory card from the phone and copy files to it in a card reader on a computer.
PDAnet
The only thing I can think of is an app called PDANet on the market, you do need internet to download it on your computer, but if it's a laptop, just take it to a wifi hotspot, like Starbucks or something and download the computer app, then tether all you want
PDAnet
No need to go to a wifi hotspot with the laptop to get the computer drivers for pdanet. You can do it right from the phone, it will download to your sdcard then all you do is mount the sdcard to the comp via usb and open the .exe file, load the drivers and start tethering. Only thing with PDAnet is you cant access secure websites with the free version. But it is an AWESOME app non the less.

[Q] Wi-fi hotspot app for a T-Mobile HD2

I have the T-Mobile (USA) version of the HTC HD2, still with the latest stock ROM, Windows Mobile 6.5.
I think I once read here that the European HD2 came with an app to use the phone's 3G connection as a wi-fi hotspot to tether other devices to. The T-Mobile USA version did not come with that though.
It didn't matter to me before. I have often tethered my laptop to the internet through the phone, but no need for wi-fi for that-- it works fine with USB or Bluetooth. (I usually use the Internet Connection Sharing applet. Occasionally dial-up networking.)
However, curious about IOS apps, and not wanting to change phone carriers and pay high monthly fees to get an Iphone, I just bought an ipod touch 4th generation to play with. It's only kind of internet connection is wi-fi. That will work when one has a wi-fi Internet connection, but one does not have that everywhere. It may have BT to connect to a headset, but I doubt it could tether through the HD2 that way. It might be possible with a couple adapters to connect the USB ports, but I doubt it would tether that way either. (If someone has found a way to do either though, to tether an IOS device through a stock ROM HD2 via BT and/or USB, please let me know.)
However, if I could find a way to make the HD2's 3G connection appear as a wi-fi hotspot, I assume that would work, to tether the Itouch with.
Is there an app I can download for my T-Mobile HD2, to use its 3G connection as a wi-fi hot spot? (Just an app. I do not have time now to deal with putting on a different ROM.) Do you have a link to it? If anyone reading has used the app, could you review how well it works?
Thank you.
Download this app or any other version of this app from Freeware Pocket PC.

Thanks, T.
Since I posted the OP, I discovered the app WMWiFiRouter.
Is this one you link to the same app with a different name, or a different app? If the latter, can anyone compare the two?
Also, since the original (not T-Mo USA) HD2 had a wifi router buoilt in, created by HTC, would that app work better on the HD2? Any way to download and install that to the T-Mo version? (again, without any ROM flashing.)
Doubt Wifi will work as HD2 will be adhoc wifi & ios device will want infrastructure wifi ...
Only way I have managed it is connecting HD2 via Win 7 Notebook (USB tether) then use Connectify on my Notebook to setup a infrastructure wifi hotspot that works with everything.
Amazes me in this day & age & level of development that we still have to jump through hoop after hoop to achieve basic functions.
Really about time the big OS developers pulled their finger out & make functional OS's that connect & share between devices with simplicity.
Amazing how even a Windows device & Windows PC alienate each other ! Microsoft could of really jumped ahead here years ago if had a bit of common sense & innovative development.
I'm sure WP8 will sort it all out ! not :-/

I think it is pretty much the same app as the one you found is actually the one I use to use on my HD2 back when I used Win Mo. But for some reason I could not find it, the app I linked looks just like the one I use to use. Also I think the app you found is just another version of the HTC app.
At Mister B, first it is good to see someone with your expertise in Win Mo still hanging out an helping others, have you ever concidered applying for RC status? Also I had two buddies that use to come over and connect via WiFi off my HD2 with a iPod touch and a iPhone three. So maybe not all of Apple's I products are so stupidly restrained.
Done a google on adhoc & iPhone, seems is possible, never had any luck when I tried but next time I get an iPhone volunteer willing to mess about with settings a bit more I will give it a proper go.
