Sending e-mails with attachments impossible?!? - Palm Treo Pro

Hi all,
since some days I am trying to send an e-mail with attachments from my new Treo Pro.
When I send an e-mail without attachments everything works fine. If I attach any kind of file (no matter what file or what size) it takes some time after pressing "Send" before I get an error message telling me either the network connection was down or the account details were wrong.
This occurs with all POP3 and IMAP accounts. No difference if GSM / 3G or WiFi.
There is definitely no way to send an e-mail with an attached file as of now.
Is there anything I can do about this problem? It is pretty annoying since I need to send out attachments quite often
Thanks!
Regards,
Bama

I can send attachments fine. Not sure what could cause that problem.
What email provider are you trying?

Hi,
I was trying various German e-mail providers such as T-Online, GMX, Daybyday. Neither one of them would work...

JwY,
Believe it or not by now I found the culprit for this issue.
When testing some other thing I found that Hotmail would work to send mails with attachment. So it had to be related to the settings of the mail application.
Finally, I disabled the checkbox to save attachments on the storage card. Suddenly I was able to send e-mails with attachments. So I deleted the Inbox folder on the storage card and enabled the checkbox for saving attachments on the storage card again. Everything works now.
Apparently the Inbox folder on the storage card was corrupted...

Bama

Glad you figured it out.

Problem with opening received e-mails

Hi,
I have a POP3 e-mail account created. When I receive an e-mail I see it in the envelop. It is OK. But, when I go to the e-mail client I can not open it. After clicking it does simply nothing, although I receive the whole message not only header. I can delete it, but I can not open it in deleted folder too.I tried the same with gmail acount (IMAP) and this is the same. I also installed FlexMail 4 from WebIS and I can open messages without problems. Does someone have an idea what could be the problem ?
Try deleting the "Inbox.mst29968626.209394..." folder on your storage card.
Does this solve the problem?

Retain POP3 email

I collect my email from a POP3 server which works fine to a point.
However unlike the PC version of Outlook which collects the mail and retains it until it is deleted from the Inbox my PDA version is behaving as though it were connected to an IMAP server and removes the mail from the Inbox as soon as it is removed from the POP3 server.
I don't recall this happening when I first got the phone but can't be sure. Can anyone else confirm what happens with their POP3 mail ?
Ideally, I would like the messages I have downloaded to stay on the phone until I delete them manually which is what I thought used to happen.
Thanks
You can indeed set an option to do this. Can't remember exactly where but it's in the account settings somewhere. I'm using imap now so can check.
Under the tool/options tab, tick the box that says "Leave a copy of message on server"... I had the same problem until I discovered this. Hope that helps.

Many thanks for the replies.
The problem is actually the other way round. I can delete a message on the phone without it removing the message from the POP3 Server. But if I delete the message from the POP3 server it is removed from the phone as soon as I do a "Send and Receive". In other words the POP3 server seems to be behaving as though it were an IMAP server.
Can anyone confirm whether this happens with their POP3 server or is just mine? As I said I don't think it used to do that.
Thanks in advance.
On my phone I can't find the "leave a copy of message on server" tick box. And as soon as I download the message, read it, and press send/receive once more, the message is deleted both from the phone and from the server!! This renders the phone utterly useless for emails, since I want to download all messages to my PC whenever I get home. I don't need the messages I delete on the phone to remain on the server, but once I get home and receive the messages in Outlook, they disappear on the server and thus when I send/receive on the phone they're all gone from the phone inbox which is fine.
This worked fine on my original stock rom on the TouchHD, but since I flashed to a 6.5.5 ROM it's all messed up. I've tried 3 different 6.5.5 ROMs.
Any idea how to fix this?

Emails disappearing

I have searched for email problems but found none that describe my problem.
The problem is this.
1. Emails that have been read, but not deleted are removed from my HD2.
2. I get a notification that an email has been delivered. If i don't read that email, pick up my phone and so on. I can return to my phone knowing that i should have a message to read and find none.
I believe that what may be happening is that my emails are getting cleared down on every send/receive schedule.
Can anyone assist?
I am not saving messages to the SIM card currently.
I had that problem.
I guess that messages are deleted from hd2 when they are deleted from mail server
In other words, when you download them with computer for example, where you probably set it to: delete messages from server after they are downloaded, they are deleted from hd2 after next send,receive...
So I guess that these emails you would like to read them on your hd2 are deleted because in the mean time you or some software deleted them from email server
I find this happens if I empty the deleted items folder in Outlook on the Windows PC to which my HD2 is synched.
Disappearing email
On HTC Touch HD, when I wanted to save an email, I have deleted it. In that way it stayed preserved in the "deleted items" folder.
However, on HD2 email is disappearing from that folder also, after it has been deleted on the server.
Is there any way to save e-mails permanently on HD2? Except moving it to the "drafts" folder...

find the email options screen that lets you set the storage location, and on that page is the option to control when and how to empty the deleted items which by default is set to automatic on connect disconnect.

Thank you for your reply, samsamuel!
I have tried to find an email option screen that you are referring to, but I just don't see it anywhere.
Could you please guide me to it?
TNX
sure, from home screen go mail -inbox -menu -scroll down to tools -options switch to storage tab and there it is.
Oooops, I 've missed the scroll down part.

hehe you aren't the first

Ok, switched to "Manually".
What I do (just for testing purposes):
1- I'm at home and using Outlook 2003, so from one email account of mine I send a short email to THE email account which is also set up in my HD2.
2- Once I see the email has been delivered, I force my HD2 to refresh and I receive the email.
3- Now I refresh Send/Receive in my Outlook. Fine, I receive the message too.
4- Finally, I refresh again (Send/Receive) in my HD2...
5- The email I had on my HD2 screen, is gone. If I go to my InBox folder, there's nothing there.
What's wrong? Although I know the server deletes the messages, why can't my HD2 keep a message that had already been received?
Cheers,

thats because when you check the account from the mobile, it leaves a copy of the email on the server, and creates a copy in your phones inbox. When you check from Outlook on the pc, it physically downloads the email, thus removing it from the server, so when you check again from the phone, the inbox is empty.
You can alter outlook to not remove messages, but you end up with all your mail stored on your pop server, and the isp might not like it if it grows too large.

Hi there samsamuel. Thanks for your answer.
I understand this behaviour, but what I can't possibly understand is why the email is not kept in my HD2: I get the notification, I click to download it, hence, in that very moment a copy of the email is in my device. Then, why can't it be kept in my device if it was already there!?
It's fine if later on, it refreshes and it detects that there's no email in the server's inbox....but please, don't delete me the copy that I already had in my device! It has no sense!
Isn't there an option to keep these copies?
And yes, you're right, I don't want to alter my outlook, that would be a nightmare.
Cheers!
No choice for that?
Are you all happy with this email behaviour?
..I'm asking because there seems not to be a solution for this...
Up...
I'm having the same problem man... it's giving me the ****S. How do I put android on this PoS HD2?!
figured it out...
Open inbox > Menu (scroll down to tools) > Options > Click your email account > skip through all the bull**** until you get to the "Email Setup, automatic send / receive & dowload messages" drop down boxes screens, Hit "Advanced Settings", then change the 'When deleting messages:' from delete them off the server to keep them on the server.
Stupid WinMo.
Try an email account that supports IMAP. Some providers allow POP3 or IMAP so you might not have to change accounts.
I don't like the way IMAP looks in Outlook, but it works much better across several devices. I have two PCs and a couple of phones. No matter where I am, each device always reflects what is ACTUALLY in my email online. It took a little adjusting to, but I think it's much better. In Active Sync/Windows Mobile Devie Center, I no longer have Outlook set to synchronise with my device. Try signing up for a free Gmail account and try it on your phone and in Outlook on a PC and see what you think...
Somehow found what seems to be the problem...
inbox - tools - options - accounts tab - choose your account - edit account setup - click next until:
Automatic Send/Receive:
[Every 60 minutes]
Download messages:
[From past 3 days]
Change this from past 3 days to All messages and voila!
It's seems to save space by providing you only with latest e-mails. Make sure to do the Storage options mentioned earlier!

Problem downloading email messages

Hi All,
I have the following issue with outlook mobile (with several ROMs) set to synchronize (direct push) with an Microsoft Exchange server.
I've set it to download only the headers and the first 5KB of the message's body.
For messages larger than 5K, I have to go and tap the "download the rest of the message" link. However, the outlook client get stuck in "Downloading..." message and nothing happens. If I cancel the download (by just closing the message window) the message just disappears from the Inbox folder on my phone.
Going to the exchange Inbox from my PC the message is still there (so it wasn't deleted), but there is no longer in my phone's Inbox.
The workaround I've found so far is to set the mobile outlook to download the entire message's body. However, this is not good for the data bill (especially when roaming).
Please help
Thank you
Anyone experiencing this?
Have you tried moving that particular message to another folder and see if the problem happens with another message?
Sometimes a message gets corrupted. I have a problem with a e-mail in my laptop's outlook. Went into webmail and moved it and everything else worked fine. I opened it in webmail, copied the contents and deleted the e-mail.
Will try. So kind from you. Thanks

[Q] Cannot send mails via ActiveSync (Exchange 2010)

Hi, I have a strange problem. ActiveSync seams to work, I got synchronized everything including new mails but when I try to send, the mail disappears in the nowhere. If I send a mail with a big attachment the mail is in the Outbox and it seams that Android is sending the mail, after a while the mail disappears form the Outbox. It will never arrive and it is not stored in Sent Mails. What can I do, without error message it is hard to find out? I already tried to delete the Application data of the mail program, in consequence I had to setup again the ActiveSync account, but having still the same problem.
On saving this post, the forum proposed this (h t t p : // forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797720) as similar thread and it is right, its exactly the same issue for HD2 using DHD roms. Anyway they did not find a solution yet, maybe it is possible to find in this forum a solution. By the way I have also the same issue as described in this thread: …also cannot get attachments or "Get Remaining KB".
I found a workaround by myself now, however not perfect. This article helped me: http: // laurie.denness.net/blog/2010/09/exchange-2010-sp1-sync-with-android-froyo/ Scroll down were you can find “Download the 2.2 stock Email.apk from here.” Download this file to your PC and move it to the phone, rename from Email.apk.zip to Email.apk and start the file on the phone. Basically it will install another mail client. Check now the menu, you should have a new item “E-Mail”. Go to settings, sync, activeSync and remove your existing and not completely working account. It will delete all contacts, mails and appointments on the phone. Start the new E-Mail client, setup your Exchange account, sync everything and send a mail. This time the mail will arrive.
Anyhow I would prefer that the HTC mail client will be fixed quite soon!
Update: The issue is solved now, for more details see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797733.
