Hi
i would like to buy the Touch HD but at my company no camera are allowed
Is there a way to disable / remove the camera
Today I have QTEK S200 and I disabled the camera in SW but I think security now would not like this solution
Thank's for any help
Moti
Deleting the photo software should do it, but I don't know the security policy of your company. You should ask them for a solution.
Also need to disable the camera
I also need to disable the camera since it is not allowed at my work place. What should I do??
Thank you,
shilera
Easiest solution would be to remove the "Photo and Videos" tab from the manilla then put some gaffer tape over the back or get those covers that will cover the back entirely.
Dont they allow putting black tape under the back cover, and then over the cover aswell, or use a silicone case without pinhole for the camera. This way you would have to remove the back cover in order to remove the tape. So no direct photo taking. You could try to find a way to deinstall the photo app aswell. Just trying to remove some folder or registry keys should do the trick (try this when you havent fully configured your phone yet, so if something goes wrong you can hard reset).
This phone has two cameras, so if you are going to cover it with something, do the same with the VGA camera on the front.
mmmm
Most secure sites around the world have a no camrea policy , this does not mean how ever the fact that any device taht can take photo's would be removed, other wise all phone scine .. well scince phones's had camreas would not be alllowed in the building, go to an MD and remove his Blackberry.. see what happends!!...
The rule means dont take photo's.... so dont.
it is possible to tell me, how to disable the 2 cameras in the HD?
Is there any way to disable/lock the camera button on HTC S710 with AllKeys(true). I tried it but it disables all keys without the camera button and function keys on qwerty keyboard.
Please let me know
It's like carrying a GUN in some places.. loaded or otherwise immaterial. ANd such places allow only devices with camera physically removed. In case of HD provided you void warranty main camera is a separate broad I guess. But front camera can still be a problem.

Well I just got my JasJar and when I press the camera the app comes up and then nothing but a black screen. Is there any software update out there? The camera that is on the screen works but not the one on the back.
Jr...
I believe that you able to do an exchange...most probably your camera hardware is faulty.
having the same problem with camera. Screeen is black but video cam still works
.. any suggestions?
dont point it to the ground? ensure you are in a vary bright place! make sure you dont have the cover over it!!! adjust the settings by clicking on the tools on the bottom right and adjust ambience and settings, really get creative and perform your own manual adjustments. switch the flash on?
the camera is **** and dark, so dont expect miracles.
alternatively, send it back. it should work.
Do what Simon suggested but if that doesn't help, change the settings in Camera to Auto incase its on something else. You mentioned that video cam works but camera mode doesn't. What about the other modes like Burst, Sport etc etc?
If nothing helps, try a soft-reset. If that doesn't help, try a hard-reset. If that too doesn't help, then a ROM re-install is in order. Now, if that too doesn't help, then i'm sorry but you will need to send it to the service centre.
hi,
I got a XDA mini. The battery cover is actually firmly attached to the phone. But everytime I touch or slightly slide the batterycover the xda turns off. So it became almost unusable (take it out of the pocket - it turns off, trying to call - it turns off)
Now I figured out that there is a tiny switch next to the battery (on the right side). Obviously it became too sensitive. I tried to tape it - it didnt help
Does anybody know how to avoid turning it off when you slide/open the battery cover? (I guess its like one of the hardware-buttons, can you turn them off? Registry?)
Or can anyone provide another solution?
I really need help - the phone is unusable.
tnx for any answer
simple , find a tooth pick that has a sharp point (easy to break toothpick) pok the switch ( lower space between the switch and its base. ) and snap the toothpick to make the switch in on direction ( upward) . you can use small paper and stik into the gap use puller , dont use metal object. it will coz short to your board. and i thnk ders no way program can overwrite it. you cant do programing if your computer is unplugged.
Are you sure there is no software way to disable it? I just thought of somewhat like "Buttonx = poweroff", like the Camera button.
Cause I wonder what happens if the switch breaks off ... Guess you cant turn it back on then.
I dipped into the registry - and there is a button-section, but i dont have a clue what those strings are for.
Well - if there is no other way - then ill try it with the tooth pick
I tried it
it worked for about 4 weeks but now its the same thing - i gues there is sth like a loose contact.

im facing the same problem: yes, it sux. how in the hell HTC had that stupid idea to put a power off button contacting with a cover, and above that, it's a tiny little switch, so prone to become damaged!! GRRRR
ok so, ive noticed recently that my TMO MDA, takes a while to load correctly on an incoming call, because it has to rotate the display, even tho i put it in normally.
turns out...
my case has magnets at the top, and no matter how i put the fone in, it will pick up that magnet, and rotate itself, then rotate back. WHY?????????
i was thinking that i could just like basically find the component ( if ur looking at the back, its toward the bottom left, behind the stylus holder) and remove it.
but maybe theres a better way?
any thoughts?
wouldn't it be easier to take the magnets out of the case? replace them with velcro or something? I certainly wouldn't alter my phone so it works with the case.
That's because the sensor is a reed switch. When the keyboard slides out, a magnet on the keyboard moves close enough to the switch in the other half of the phone to activate it.
Removing the switch (even if you found it - they can be really tiny) would result in phone screen not rotating with keyboard slided out, and you probably wouldn't want it, would you? I'd say to modify the case with velcro or some diffrent locking mechanism, or get another case instead.
that would make sense
ima try to modify my case then. thanks for the immediate response!
Hello,
I've tried flashing lots of ROMs, install some software to test the main camera, and configure it to it's most, but it's useless.
It used to work fine until 1 week ago, when I tried to capture a nice picture of a landscape and it was all blury (Extremly blurry)!
The button switching the focus seems to not be working at all, so I guess this is a hardware problem.
Any ideas how this can be fixed? Has anyone ever experienced this?
The phone has no warranty, and some help would be really appreciated.
If needed, I could show you some example images taken with it.
Tho, this is 1 pic taken with it (Attached).
Thanks,
Snaz
Well, I'd say you are very likely correct in assuming it is the Macro toggle switch. It will b stuck in macro mode or even between macro and normal.
Do you see the black arm sticking out the side of the camera?
That is the macro lever and it engages with the macro switch on the back casing.
Hopefully it has just disengaged and removing the back you will be able to re-engage them (quite fiddly but not difficult technically!!)
It may be that some plastic part has broken off - might be fixable with superglue.
Or if there is physical damage then you could just move the lever to "normal" position and leave it there. How many times do you use macro??
Cheers
Mike
Thanks Mike, I fixed it, it was that macro button wrong positioned, and it managed to get out from the arm. Really thanks for your help, i appreciate it so much.

Good news. Pleased it had just slipped off the lever and was not broken
Mike
mikechannon, you are an expert ,you are so great.oh
common
This can be quite a common problem when people remove the back cover of there hermes as you have to line up the lever on the camera to the pins on the macro slider on the case. I believe the simplest way is to move the lever to the 'up' position (as shown in the photos above) and ensure the macro switch is in 'landscape/wide' mode, then as you put the case back together, the 'planets should align'!!!!
Hi,
I have an XDA1 and want to get an XDA2.
However, we aren't allowed cameras on site at work, and despite a long email conversation with the security jobs-worth where I volunteer to super glue a metal plate over the lens and the likes, I'm not allowed to bring an XDA2 to work :x .
So, does anyone know how difficult it would be to open up an XDA2, unsolder and completely remove the camera?
Thanks in advance,
Muddy.
