What happened to the Playnow Panel? or playnow being supported by the x1? When you register for playnow on a pc you can select most sonyericsson phones but not the x1/sonyericsson smartphones. What gives?
I'd have to guess that the media format(s) used on PlayNow, are not all compatible with the Windows Mobile software.
Certainly, many of the games, and themes will not work well/at all.
It can be accessed from your web browser, though. you should be ok with the music formats.
It has often been rumoured that the x! came out too soon, and was unfinished/polished. I would expect an update firmware sometime soon, with some new stuff as well as bugfixes/improvements.
Maybe a playNow panel might be in there?

something just occurred in my mind, it has been said that apparently X1 uses the default WMP to playback movies and music that being accessed from media experience panel; this would mean that there is some link that connect that panel to WMP.
Now the important question is, can the panel link be redirected into other media players? If this is possible, it will be a great thing!
*edit*
even better if the same could be applied into the internet explorer home UI -is that a panel?-, which mean we can use Opera or others
It actually can play music through the panel directly also without using wmp
but it still use WMP right? or is it actually have it's own player?

In my opinion; It can be either... Panels are applications that not only are stand-alone applications, but they actually tie in with the device letting you communicate with other applications. Communication would of-course depend on the application in question... as in how much information it gives out that you can use in your panel and so on.
I love Panels over TF3D 'cos of customizability and its overall potential.
I myself am looking forward to implement panels - probably some completely stupid and useless stuff...
I downloaded the SDK and installed it when released, however was bummed out that for Panels you have to use C++. It has been AGES since i used that languge other than when really needed. I have been hearing that SE will support C# and vb.nEt in the end for Panel development, and i am really looking forward to that day. (maybe they already have, 'cos i haven't really checked for updates)

I does both on the preview I've seen of it. He showed the music playing in the actual program and he showed that you can open it into wmp. As far as if that can be changed i don't know.
Yeah, how is it? It doesn't work with My Phone + the R2A NAM rom
Also, is firmware the version of a rom?
what player?
I believe you need to have the ActiveX Deployment and R3A Panel Manager to get it to work.
Both can be downloaded here (but beware, the R3A panel will screw up your X1, and when uninstalled, takes out the panel manager entirely.
As for the media panel, I like it. It's more or less the same, visually. It includes a new radio function, so you can have all your music in the same place. It also plays music files that the old media panel would not play for me. So in that respect I'm pleased with it. Though the song information and album art are still hit or miss. I think the contacts part also shows sim contacts, where before, it only showed ones from outlook.
Personally, I liked the new media panel a lot, but I do not think it's worth the risk of the new R3A panel. It's been nothing but trouble for me and others, and I'm considering a hard reset because of it.
I dont understand ... you talking about the Media Xperience Panel that you can download seperate or some new Media Player program

Hi there.
Can a kind soul please tell me whether the Hero will be compatible with iPlayer and if I will be able to sync my (non-DRM) iTunes music across to the phone?
Also, how often does the Facebook widget update - is it pretty much 'real time'?
Thank you, in advance.
i am using the hero port for the g1 and bbc iplayer works with the beepPlayer app off the android market, there is no facebook widget afaik, and you should be able to sync the music fine by just copying it to the phones SD card
Yes, the beebplayer works fine on the release devices.
And the facebook and flickr updates in the people app are every 2,4,8,12 or 24 hours, depending on what you set it to (2 hours is the default)
As for the Music, raider is correct, you just drag and drop to the memory card and you're done.
I think that the original poster might be moreso hoping to have the organization of the itunes app transfer over with some order to the phone.
From what I understand, it works right now, but Steve Jobs has mentioned that it may not always be so, as I am guessing this was kind of an unexpected (unauthorized as well?) compatibility.
Caid.

iTunes doesn't work with any Android device. It works with Apple products & the Palm Pre & thats becaues Palm faked it as an iPod most likely with iPod device/vendor IDs.
I didn't really want it to work with the Hero, as such, but...
...simply to be able to easily listen to my AAC (non DRM) songs on the device. Should this be possible?

However this feature, never heard of it.

Re 2.2-Froyo: I also see at: http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.2-highlights.html
"New Platform Technologies
New media framework (Stagefright) that supports local file playback and HTTP progressive streaming
Provides new APIs for audio focus, routing audio to SCO, and auto-scan of files to media database. Also provides APIs to let applications detect completion of sound loading and auto-pause and auto-resume audio playback"
Not sure how that's been implemented so far maybe someone can recommend an app in the interim..
Just download Winamp, have it install Winamp Remote during the install, set up an account, add your music library to your Winamp Remote database, login on your phone and enjoy. Been streaming my library for about two years now.

Personally I prefer Winamp but what about cloud based apps like zumodrive & dropbox etc.. for when your pc is not constantly on?

True, never really thought about that because my PC is always on.
I've used the aforementioned two for any file type including unencrypted music files, anyone try mspot: http://www.mspot.com/music/learn_overview.php

I have installed the X2 panels and panel manager, but there's one that I'm really wanting:
The XPeria media panel.
I can't find a cab or anything for it *anywhere*, and I really want that slick interface, since my phone is primarily a texting device, and a media player.
I suggest you do a search and see if you can find. XDA and htcpedia are two places where i would look.
