I believe you need to have the ActiveX Deployment and R3A Panel Manager to get it to work.
Both can be downloaded here (but beware, the R3A panel will screw up your X1, and when uninstalled, takes out the panel manager entirely.
As for the media panel, I like it. It's more or less the same, visually. It includes a new radio function, so you can have all your music in the same place. It also plays music files that the old media panel would not play for me. So in that respect I'm pleased with it. Though the song information and album art are still hit or miss. I think the contacts part also shows sim contacts, where before, it only showed ones from outlook.
Personally, I liked the new media panel a lot, but I do not think it's worth the risk of the new R3A panel. It's been nothing but trouble for me and others, and I'm considering a hard reset because of it.

Well my media panel used to work fine. I could play music and watch the video clips that came with it. Now when I try to play music or watch videos the screen goes black like it's gonna start, then it just jumps back to the menu like nothing ever happened.
I think it's CorePlayer that's messing it up... must be something with the file extensions but I turned them all off and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?
Well I guess I'll just hard reset and check the media panel after I install anything
I have the same problem. I always have Core Player installed. I just removed the media panel thinking it was sh*te
Same on my Xperia I think it was after i installed the Manila HD or the youtube cab.
I tried it with Uninstall the Manila HD but nothing happend.
i hope somebody will find a fix for the media panel, i really like it

have you install youtube by any chance recently?
it'll break the media panel, as well as the camera playback function.
if so, you may have to hard-reset, and install this version of youtube instead

unfortuantely, you need to hard reset in order for the CAB to work.
alternatively, if you do not wish to hard reset, change this registry to see if it'll help (this is the problematic registry, but this wouldn't undo the system files that are overwritten)
HKCU\CLSID\{C4EF1AB7-F52D-4e83-8C74-0C512FB7EA43}\InprocServer32
make sure Default=HTCSrcFlt3.dll (not HTCSrcFlt2.dll)

somebody has reported that the manila cab with the built-in youtube will not break 3gp/mp4 playback, are you not experiencing the same?
my CAB is tested with TF3DHD by Daran, and you can install my Youtube CAB, TF3DHD and TF3D Panel CAB in any order. You don't need to install any other CAB such as Dshow or mHubVO, and in fact, I've not tested if these other CABs (other than TF3DHD and Panel) will break the CAB that I have put together.
PS: I hardcode the installed files to \Windows directory, if your German ROM uses a different Windows directory name, I need to change.

This registry fix does in fact work. I applied it and both the native video camera player and the multimedia panel player worked. YouTube in the TF3D panel continued to work too.

my problem was the same, i found out that my mp3's had errors in the header,
so i used mp3Val to check and repair my mp3files after that I taggt it new with mp3tag
give your experia a bit of time to read the tags and sort the artists after that y'll maybe happy like me

I added the album art with mp3tag.
I used ID3 v2.3. I tried to use ID3 v2.4 but there are no album covers on the media panel so i returned to ID3 v2.3.
You can easy change that in options of mp3tag

I got a prototype from work(SonyEricsson) and it's one of the earlier prototypes and I'm missing a media panel on it. I tried to copy the media panel from the "program files" folder in a another Xperia phone, put that didn't work ofcourse....
So I'm wondering if there's a way to Impliment that panel???
I'm probably the only one with this problem but I'd appreciate help though

I'll just post my problem here aswell then;
When I try to view a video trough the media panel, media player or the camera application it just gives me a lot of loud static sounds and a black screen.
When trying to use youtube it loads the name of the movies but when I click them it says "Error: Cannot play this video".
I think, judging from what others have said, that the TF3D cab is causing this problem. I still got the "old" one but I wouldnt understand why installing the new one would solve my problem (if it does; please let me know and I'll try it, just dont want to do anything reckless atm).
There's been some suggestions in this topic for registry fixes, would those work for me aswell? Also, I dont even know how to alter the registry in the first place..

Does anyone know of a way of importing WMP11 playlists into the Media panel playlists? Don't really want to recreate and add all of my tracks into the Media panel playlists-they do not appear to be compatible withe each other!

Ok - Using several different ROMs I have found the one that suits me the best - I have one nagging problem - videos that previously were played in landscape full screen are now chopped in half and being played via portrait??
So my question is what / where is the media player that is being used on that panel - I want to see if I have options to change the view setting - or ifs it just windows media player then i give up.

maybe not a custom rom issue but more a media player issue ! working with an original/std factory rom & it is so crappy that i know use core player which is really better ! we are multiple people having concerns with the sony media player (xmb panel)
the panel files are under /program files/panels
im using itjes rom as well, reinstalling mxp fixed most of the problems.
have you tried playing your vids in windows media to see what happens?
i forgot to say, opening mxp as a standalone using pubbas doesnt work, so there might be something else going on, when i get some time ill take a look.
Well they play landscape in media player but it looks like crap- plus the touch controls on the sony media xper thing are much better - i have looked in the panels and the other location but i dont see anything that i can look at or set - - so with jacks rom the panel plays perfectly (once you install it) but the one that i want to use and like is the touch one - but the panel just has that one flaw - i have tried to uninstall and reinstall the panel same thing.
I've encountered the same problem and uninstalled the media panel alltogether. I think it relates to Itje's "experience" ROM, as I didn't encounter the issue before installing it. With another ROM the problem might well be solved; just tinker around with it a bit.

Just installed coreplayer - works well enough - still miss my touch screen menu overlay on the video - but Its worth it on this ROM that works better than stock.

After a month of using Xperia, having applied tweaks and installed custom apps and add-ons... i believe it to be the best mobile ever!
Alas! today i set out to accomplish more on the device. I installed various applications including; HTC Home and HTC Home Configration, Conduits Pocket Player, Mort Player, Flip Side (Great Player but extreme resource hog!), and a couple of other things. As you can imagine, i was looking mainly for an alternative to WMP for playing mp3s. I use CorePlayer for movies playback, but need one for Mp3s...
Any idea which one might have caused the problem...

Well... it was most definitely HTC Home + HHC. After hard-resetting, i installed it again. And voila! the device fails to start up again.

Touch-IT Experience 2.2 No Panels, just wanted TFL3D (Good Basepoint, thanks itje)
20931 XPI (ain't managed to get the SYS folder updated yet )
Updated Manilla and other blackstone apps from latest blackstone rom
Changed pagepool to 24mb

Hehe... i didn't flash the rom with a custom one... like the Panels and performance was awesome after tweaking. I like TF3D but only as another Panel and not just the only one.
Windows media player can play MP3's
If you install G alarm it installs the MP3 codec into windows media play. Windows media play will then pick up and play your Mp3 files and display there album art, which is nice. WMP nows plays everyhting well apart from midi files, which play at an appaling quality. Dont forget the update libarary option in media player to scan for files
Down load these midi file, play it on your PC, never has so much passion, & emotion come in such a tini music file, hope you like ! Then see what the X1 plays them like.

Of course Media Player can play MP3s... why wouldn't it? And i even got Album art working with it... but i don't want to use WMP but am looking for a better alternative.
I have an iPhone and to me the iPod player on it is awesome. Flipside provided similar functionality, but too slow and buggy to use. I am keeping my iPhone as an iPod touch so will usually use that for music, but i won't be carrying the iPhone with me all the time and thus wanted some great program for the Xperia to playback music as well...
When I first got my Xperia, the Media Panel had a blue background. I had to do a hard reset and now it has a brown background.
Also why is it that anytime I try to play music with the Media Panel it opens up WMP. I thought songs could be played through the Media panel?
The text in the Facebook panel is really small. Is anyone aware of a reg edit to change this.

thats really weird; I know the media panel changes background colour depending on what the time is, however its definately not supposed open up with WMplayer
I would recommend trying to hard reset again, if not try to install the panel again via the CAB versions [media player panel CAB is also available on one of the custom ROM threads]
Certain file types can only be run in WMP (possibly WMA files), also the colour changes based on time of day.

Thanks Guys. All my songs are in WMA.
I have just instaled new media panel. with new panel menager and now panel doesn't see any photo on xperia or on storage card. and see mp3 as he wants. I have perfect maded mp3 tags and any time I will put this same album and erase and put again and erase panel media see it diffrently each time...
or see it like "unknow artist"
what's the problem?

Yeps i got the same problem... it happens cos the panel manager doesn't fit with that panel, try to install the last version running somewhere, but in facts even with that I don't like it cos sometimes fails. so it's quite annoying so that why I'm just using the simple media panel.
I have just instaled the new panel menager, active something, and this new panel media...nothing has changed.
I was trying to check up for new ROM but SUSe dosn't start anything when i connect the phone.

My media panel just has a funny but annoying bug (don't know how to call it other than that). After each song it plays the first 1-2 seconds of that same song again before it switches to the next one >.<

on my xperia its a total mistake...panel menager has colapsed after two times of changing panel. it stoped to respond and start to hold up my phone

yes it just flashes isn't it?
after two days I see much more bugs then on beggining.
mediapanel is really often freezing my phone. when not freeze the phone, freeze new choosed panel...only back to today screen helps.
and when I back to xperia panel messegin icon is not showing new messages...
and last one - switching to the next truck when listening music is taking about 3-4 sec !!!! is this windows 3.1??
