We can deduce from the fact that they both can charge on your pc USB slot that their individual chargers are of same polarity and COULD be interchangeable. A quick check on my collection of chargers that charge also on USB is: K-Jam 5v 1.0 amp max, Atom 5v 1.0amp max, Jabra 800 6v 205mAmp 8) Check with your razr charger and interchange the chargers at your own risk :lol:

Don't do it, I had somebody who had been charging there Compact with a razr car charger and now it won't charge at all. There appears to be some difference somewhere. Don't even risk it.
It wasn't the fact that the car charger was for a RAZR, the problem was, it was probably a generic charger. I fried a brand new iPAQ with a car charger I bought on eBay. I learned my lesson...
The *OFFICIAL* Motorola RAZR charger is rated less than the Wizard. Both the RAZR and the Wizard can charge via the USB. Both have the same pin outs. If the RAZR charger were rated higher than the Wizard, you should be concerned.
I've been using a RAZR charger since I got my K-Jam in (when was the very first shipment?) and it charges fine every time.
The ratings on my Motorola V3 charger:
Input: 100v-240v ~ 50/60Hz 0.2A
Output: 5.0V - 550mA
If someone can explain how why the RAZR charger is bad on the Wizard, I'd love to know why.
In fact, Nokia sells two different chargers. On some phones, they come with a standard charger. But you can buy a "fast" charger for the phone and the only difference is a higher AMP rating. I used to work for Cingular and have seen personally the same phone ship with both chargers...

The max that the USB port can put out is 500mA. The V3 charger is between the USB port and the official HTC charger.
USB: 500mA
RAZR Charger: 550mA
HTC: 1A
Don't buy a generic charger. Buy a name brand charger...
Also, for more details about the USB pinouts than one man can digest in one sitting, read that entire Wikipedia article. I did... wish I hadn't.

the same discussion is going on over at hofo or ppcdubai, forgot which one, but thers several posts with "I know someone that...." or "my friend did..." and devices ended up being fried. well i'm telling you from first hand experience. about a year ago I bought a belkin razr car charger from walmart and i've been using it on my jam and now my k-jam and my battery and device aren't damaged. I don't know the rating on it but I suggest u check the rating of anything before u plug your device into it.
also that car charger didn't charge my sp3i, just to let ya'll know.
That discussion at HOFO was a question that *I* originally asked back in December. I just posted the same information over there about 5 mins ago.
Buying chargers for 4.99 on eBay will kill your device every time. I learned the hard way. If you buy a name brand product, your fine.
Specs says it's OK. Experience with a name brand charger (your belkin and my Motorola) says it's OK.
But like I said above, if someone can point out a hole in my logic, please tell me. I've been wrong before but I don't think I am on this one.

Motorola branded AC charger, rated for 550mA current
Generic car charger for mini-USB, made in China eBay, no specs.
Both work fine with my Razr V3 and my Qtek 9100. Bit of a risk to use the car charger, but it's worked well with the Razr. Agree completely with McHale, your logic works fine. If your AC converter and DC power source are up to USB spec, you should in theory be able to charge both devices.
The unknowns are the custom circuitry the cheap converters use to "prevent" overcharging. Some have simple diode rectifiers, some have weak op amp current sinks, etc. Basically, some of these overcharge circuits don't work at all and you get a fried device. You get what you pay for, usually.

I have 2 phones - an O2 XDA Mini S (a K-Jam) and a Motorola Razr V3. I use the Motorola chargers, both wall charger and car charger, every day for both phones and have done so, without problems for months.

I have both, I tried - used one at the office, the other (razr) bedside. The charge light comes on, then goes out in five seconds.
Every once in a while, it actually would charge... finally gave up and got rid of the razr charger.

It definitely works for me - I have actually never used the O2 charger; I use the Motorola wall charger at the weekends and the Motorola Blue Car charger every morning.
That is the only way I charge my O2 XDA Mini S - so it obviously works in my case!!

I have been using my Razr charger (car and home) since I got my KJam a few months ago. I had a surge and my official charger was fried in a surge.
The only problem I have had was when I completely drained my battery (GPS software that prevented power down) I was not able to bring my KJam back to life with the RAZR or USB charger.
I connected my KJam to a friends official charger for a couple of minutes and it was fine.
I bought a new charger from Expansys, but I still use my RAZR chargers as well.
I don't understand the reasoning, but you can not charge the phone via the USB unless it is on. Since the RAZR charger is basically the exact same specs as a USB port, same rule applies.
If the battery is dead, there's no way to turn it on for it to work.
At least that's my uneducated guess.
But like I said, I've been using the RAZR charger since the end of December and have never had a single discharge or any other problems.

what car chargers will work with our phone? I saw someone had used a charger from a razr, but when I went to the store to check them out, the usb cable wouldn't fit, and I wasn't going to try to for the thing on there. Any ideas please?
I use a mini USB cable to the phone with a usb car charger.
You should look again. I use 2 old Razr chargers (1 home & 1 car) and they both fit perfectly. My old Htc diamond and touch pro chargers work too.

Depends on what razr you had. I think they changed the port to a micro usb in one version.
Like railstop said, find a GENERIC USB car charger. If you can find one that is just the car charger plug with USB port(rather then a non-detachable cord) then that is even better b/c you can plug any usb cable into it. USB A -> mini .... USB A -> micro ... USB A -> iPod
It doesn't matter. If you get the generic then you can also plug in any device that will charge off your computer.
If the charger is marked 1 A, it'll charge faster. Some of the mini USB chargers, for phones or BT headsets only charge at 300mAh or 700mAh. They'll charge, eventually, but a lot slower.

Good point. Some devices(not the hero) will complain that the charger is not compatible but 95% of them will still charge. They just throw up that warning b/c they will charge slower.
If you are constantly using GPS then you will want to hunt around for a 1 amp version because even with a 1A charger the hero's battery can't keep up with the drain of GPS and data for the navigation.
I too am using an old Moto car charger(not Razr). Just look for any USB mini car charger, don't get suckered into Sprint approved accessories. If you have an extra miniUSB cable, it may be better to get a generic USB car charger, so you can switch out when you get a new phone.

i went out and bought a generic moto charger that has the different adaptors on it, but it's charging slow as ****, to the point of pretty much not even seeming to charge. I also had a griffin usb charger that was doing the same thing. :grr:
Could a charger above 1000mA damage the phone? I have two gps mini-usb car chargers rated for 1500mA and 2000mA.

No it wont matter. The phone will just draw 1 amp, the ratings are just maximums.

I use a combination of blackberry charger at work, universal micro usb charger downstairs at home, universal car charger and official charger upstairs.
Any concerns with this?
I've been doing that for ages. I use the droid, SE x10 and iPhone chargers with no issue.

I use a Sony charger to charge my S2 , I have not even removed the Samsung one from the box , As long as you use a branded charger will be fine.
I've tried to use Nokia's 1200 mA charger, It did charge the phone but whenever i connected that charger the phone would slow down terribly. So, whatever you use, try to keep it around Samsung's charger's 700 mA.
Ive found that the standard charger is rubbish! I had my galaxy s 4 month and it broke, my wifes galaxy 3 did same and now i dont even bother with the one out the box, just use the usb cable and the adapter i got with my tab.

Absolutely right...my phone is about 1 month old..and the official samsung charger is already broken..not charging anymore..i guess there is an internal wire breakage at the flexible point of the charger becoz when i shake the wire at that point it starts charging intermittently..

Same here. I tried all sorts to get it to work with no joy. I now have 3 duff samsung chargers that are potentially a fire hazard if left plugged in! Tempted to email samsung and raise this concern.

At home I use a Lenmar AC-to-USB 1A charger I picked up at Fry's for around $10; in the car I use a 1A Cygnett 12V-to-USB charger, also from Fry's. Both charge the device at least as well as the OEM AC charger; the car charger appears to charge the SGS2 even when I'm running CoPilot Live.
I use the iGO charge anywhere.
It's a tad pricey, but since the GS2 battery life isn't great (my only complaint on the phone), the charger is great for it since it has an internal battery that charges up when you put it in an outlet so you can charge the phone without needing an outlet. Great for in school or walking around, just put it in my bag and press the button and it charges.
I'm using my BlackBerry charger with no issues, I just do it for convenience as the charging time is the same as the standard charger.

i am using the htc charger that came with the desire hd...no issues what so ever...screen response while charging is the same on or off the charger.

200ma is way low, less than half the 500 ma usb standard. Get a new charger. Most of the chargers you are going to see will be 500 ma I would go with double that.
Some (bad?) chargers will disable touchscreen
I have a couple of usb-chargers off ebay and they give some trouble.
When connected, the touchscreen will not work anymore.
This is mentioned in the manual btw.

Yeah, ebay chargers are a crapshoot. Head to walmart or similar and read the power specs, get something that puts out 5v at 1A LPS. This will charge much faster than the often usb based standard 500 mA chargers and the battery will not be harmed at that charging level which is what many stock HTC chargers put out nowdays. Do not get anything less than 500mA, this is the usb standard and works but will be slower to charge. El Cheapo no name chargers on ebay and such may have the spec but may or may not actually put out the juice. You can usually tell this because the phone will have problems like the ones mentioned right here. The stock charger does not put out any special juice, juice is juice. If a charger puts out to spec the phone will work while charging.

Hmm thought the usb cable unplugged from the wall charger so it could be used on a computer. At any rate I have noticed that my Kindle charger works great on my Defy.
I used the charger of an HP Touchpad with 2000 mAh instead of the 800mAh of the Defy charger and would say it charges much faster. Unfortunatelly i "had to" sell the HP Touchpad with its charger and i am looking for another good USB-Charger. In the past i bought one from ebay for not much more than 1€ but it only has 500mAh i am thinking about this one "from HTC" with 1mAh

I believe that you think on output current. That is mA, not mAh. And ofc that it chargers faster, just like you eat faster with bigger spoon

you are right, it is mA, because milliampere per hour (mAh) is for battery's capacity and not for output currents. i hope everyone knows what i mean.
on the other hand i guess that the charging unit is also a factor the charging speed depends on. is it possible that a too high output current could damage the phone?
is anyone able to suggest a good charger with a current >= 1000 mA?

It is not possible do damage charging unit, cause it will take current that needs. For example: USB on PCs is 5V/500mA (500mA is MAX current that source (USB) gives), and when you plug mouse it takes only 100mA. So, charger with 2A output is MAX, and defy takes less current

I almosr never use the original charger. I use the charger that came with the bluetooth headset and everything is fine
It doesn't matter what kind of charger you have. The only thing you must look at is the voltage of the source (5V DC) and it must be a micro usb plug

The easiest way to charge your Note is of course via a USB>Micro USB cord plugged into a laptop or PC (where you are guaranteed the voltage is correct), however if you are using a generic or knock off wall wart charger than provides a micro USB connector there is some small chance that it will not charge your Note.. look for the charging icon and if its not charging, toss the charger and get another.
There is no specific risk to the device, provided that it (the charger) has a micro-usb intended for charging generic devices..its just that some modern portable devices have a stricter requirement (tighter tolerance) for charging voltage and simply will not charge outside that voltage range.. my BB9930 does exactly this..

Since all micro/mini usb chargers have the same voltage, and vary only in the power output - the only problem you could face is slow charging, or no charging at all if the charger doesn't have enough juice. But it certainly won't harm the phone.

I'm using an old HTC mains-to-USB and a Nokia microUSB cable...
My stock charger has a slight squeal, so I usually use the charger for my BB Curve 9300. Does totally fine.
My Note was purchased from expansys UK but shipped in from mainland Europe. As it was to be sold in the UK, expansys had to supply a UK adapter rather than an EU one ...I received an HTC adapter with my phone. At first, I was worried, but discovered that it works beautifully with my Note. Charges faster than generic Samsung chargers too! You should be fine using another standard charger

For the first 3 weeks I was using a blackberry (original) Bold II charger.
I noticed charge time was too long. And maybe even battery life was shorter.
Im not 100% sure about the second statement but the first is confirmed.
When I started using the Note charger it was faster. Not super fast compared to iPhone or iPad but faster than using the Bold charger.
I never use my samy charger..Im using my DHD charger..no problem at all..

Tested three microusb from my "old" htc hd2, two original nokia microusb, and a sony ericsson original microusb.
HTC and Nokia dont work. Can't charge and no data connection.... I only can charge and data connect with the samsung and the sony ericsson microusb cables. I cant understand!!!
(the nokia cable also cant work with hd2!!)

Watch the power output though - some tablet chargers are rated at 2A+ and that could overdrive your charging circuit and cause damage. If you make sure your charger is about 1A (and 5V, obviously) then you should be fine.

I use a nokia charger to charge mine!
Make sure it gives you 1A of output and you are fine!

1A of output and 5V and you are fine!
Actually the charging current is limited by internal resistance of the battery, so the battery effectively "accepts" charge. Charging current is not "pushed" in by the charger...
obviously a charger from say a BB is likely to be current limited and so longer charging times would be expected, but an iPad charger will work fine.

I wouldnt worry too much, I charge my note with my iPhone charger purely because the USB port faces a different way so I can actually fit it on my plug extensions without loseing 2 sockets.
Pretty much anything with an output of 5Vdc and a minimum of 1A will do just fine.
