Any1 hv any ideas on how to fix the problem above?
Are you using a custom ROM or the default SE one? If it's default, is it carrier branded (vodafone/t-mobile etc)? If you use a custom ROM it *could* be causing problems, default ROMS should be the place to start really, then flash custom ROMS once you're sure everything is working fine.
Have you run QuickGPS and updated the satellite info in the last 7 days? This speeds up location of satellites.
How long have you left G.Maps to find the satellites? It takes a good few minutes the first time, regardless of whether you've run QuickGPS. It's usually a bit faster locking on after the first time.
one more tip.. i found that X1's GPS is not very good when it is indoors by the windows or in places with lots of buildings...
try to really find a OPEN SPACE with clear line of sight to the enterprise spaceship

Try to run the quickGPS first...once this program find Satelites, then you can close it and run google map.
This is the way i do and it works.

I get an error right after the splash screen. The details report some kind of GPS script error.? Any ideas? I'm using the TMous stock rom and also the newest Bing.. Thanks
It's working on my tmous hd2. There's no exit or quit, so you have to force close the app.

I've tried a bunch of times...? which version of bing do you have? Or does it use googlemaps? It crashes right away after the splash for me with a page of GPS script errors??? HMM...
LOL, now this will drive me crazy.... don't really need the app, but it's annoying when I can't get something to work right..lol thanks
It says Bing maps on the about info. I don't think it uses the Bing apps though. I'm using Bing 5.1.2010.
It kind of works...it cant track my location via gps constantly, it will do it one time and put a nice blue dot on map, then when I move and ask it to find me, it'll center map on my location, but won't show blue button. It is also buggy and I've had time where buttons don't respond, it has frozen my phone other times, and I"ve had to home button, task manager close it at other times. Anyone got a constant gps fix when you use it?
Edit *Also had a ton of GPS errors, can't find your location, etc*
Works fine for me.
Man this is weird, it works on my son's HD2 also and our phone's are almost identical? I even tried uninstalling w/sktools to make sure the registry was clean. Oh well. I'll probably flash a new rom this weekend anyhow, this is the longest I've ever ran a stock rom anyways..

I've tryed everything and everything was working just ones or twice..
soo you will test now many settings from XDA members - and all of these helps are very usefull.
But the point remains: samsung gps is ****y - their support is ****y...
Soo.
1) install application GPSbooster (octy's new one for froyo) OCTY - many thanks!!
2) install GPS status (which downloads from internet position of satelites: similiar to quickGPS from HTC)
3) enable in Gpssetup2 (use activities in LaunchPro) gpsOne XTRA (it will push downloaded positions to your gps)
4) in gpssetup2 go to SSL / enable SSL and choose google server (I don't know how to triger the download from the google server - that's why I use Gps status application)
5) run GET possition in Gpssetup2 for 15 minutes (ones a week ??)
IF you will not get the GPS quicly. Then leave GPS enabled. Switch off and on your samsung (with GPS enabled)
after this restart your GPS will RUN.
You will read many more about how to make GPS quick on i580 but Restart with enabled GPS will help always.
Thank you Samsung for your semi-product. Product is good, your gps pre-settings is semi.

Thanks for taking some of your time to read this.
I've done lots of search all over xda and on Google but can't find a way to get my gps to lock on my N1 on any GB based rom. I've had issue on CM6 as well but I'm pretty sure it's been working on other custom froyo rom.
Stock roms works well without any additionnal tweaking and I've tried to mess around my apn settings with no luck.
Can any of you point me some system setting files or have any clue how I can fix this?
Kind of had time to become a GB addict but no GPS is a real drag.
Regards.
*Edit: By the way my N1 comes from Google directly.
I don't have any issue with my N1 on Rogers. I do remember reading some people saying they had to enable Googles tracking or whatever it is it asks you when you first set it up. I couldn't find the option in settings so I'm not sure how to enable it if you didn't on first setup.
Wow...
That's it. I was skipping the setup by touching the 4 corners... And the only message Google map was telling me was "Your location is temporarily unavailable"... Just wow...
Well, thanks a lot!
Hello,
i am having problems with my phone GPS system. I used all the tricks and apps like Faster fix or GPS fix, etc i also used the *#*#3214789650*#*# fix explained by kyrillos13 and still nothing. I tried gps test on TTFF test and after like 20 minutes got a fix an ran all tests 5 times an got the fix after about 2 minutes at the end of the tests. But after 15 minutes when tried the GPS again nothing happend and also when using faster fix i got a message "NO FIX". I have the latest rom I5800XXJPQ updated with kies. It's not rooted.
Can someone help me in dealing with this GPS problem.
Thanks in advice!!!

and also i flash my rom with Kyrillos v6 (non oc) this code do nothing on tht rom..
Fix didn't helped me much. I had to run test every time before using GPS unless it will "Your location is temporary unavailable". Any permanent fix? quite annoying to run test every time.

Hi,
Like you, tried everything after using Kies to upgrade to Froyo on my UK Orange I5801.
I do have Octy's GPS Optimisation loaded and I am rooted having used SuperOneClick, nothing else would do it, Thanks Orange!
None of the codes on the keypad worked either, they seem to have locked things even after rooting.
GPS Fix although looking like it worked, it didn't change the GPS config as shown later when I managed to create shortcut for GpsSetup2.
I do have LauncherPro, and this allowed me to make a shortcut on my homepage for GPSSETUP2, but I couldn't use it to create a shortcut for LbsTestMode, it's not there under Activities, which I understand would have been the easier route.
Using the newly created shortcut for GPSSetUP2 I was able to adjust the settings.
It was the blind leading the blind, but eventually I managed to set the config so that it now gets a fix in a matter of seconds, probably assisted by Octy's GPS Optimisation, I don't have the B*lls to uninstall it, why fix it if it ain't broke.
So here's my settings.
Settings
Parameter Settings/Address
Server Type UMTS SLP
Address Type URL

Parameter Settings/Start mode Cold Start

Fix Request Settings/Time between fixes 1000
Fix Request Settings/Session Timeout 180
Fix Request SettingsAccuracy 50
Fix Request Settings/Server Option Local,.....this seemed to be the killer,
mine was still at "default" suggest you try this first.
All other settings "Commands" and "gpsOneXTRA" were left as default.
I hope this helps someone.
best wishes
Steve
Thank you all for posting. I will try all your steps and with luck i will finally get a better signal and a more fast GPS connection.
I installed Sumee 3.1 which has some GPS fixes installed, and i could say that i get a fix at about 2-3 minutes and this after installing fasterfix.apk and after making the changes posted by kyrillos13.
Hi,
I'm an Android noob. I recently picked up a Fascinate 3G+ from Telus (T959D) and noticed that the GPS wasn't working at all; could never get a lock. I just upgraded to Gingerbread this morning hoping that the update would resolve the issue, and it did momentarily, but now the GPS is worthless again (no lock at all).
Searching the web, I find a lot of "fixes", but they all seem to relate to Froyo. I haven't seen anything specific for Gingerbread releases.
I tried to update the AGPS configurations (as per several threads indicated) by dialing *#*#1472365#*#* , but as soon as I enter the final *, the number gets wiped out and nothing happens (just remains at the dialer with a blank entry). I don't know if this is because it is a Telus Fascinate and not a Vibrant/Captivate/etc, or if it is because of Gingerbread.
Either way, does anyone know or have any suggestions on how to fix the GPS under Gingerbread? I love the phone, but this GPS issue is driving me nuts.
Thanks,
Eric
It's universally accepted that the stock SGS phones have terrible GPS. I've had trouble in the past accessing the LbsTestMode (GPS Settings menu) on my phone due to differing phone codes and whatnot.
You can try downloading some apps from the market that bypass the dialer and just runs the service directly (SGS Tools for example)
I personally use Launcher Pro as my home replacement for Touchwiz, and using that I can create a shortcut directly to the GPS settings.
Here's a guide outlining how to get to it:
http://www.gmachine.net/tech/1-click-gps-settings-with-launcher-pro-activities/
The custom rom I use does not have the lbstest service though so I can't verify
You can also access some of the gps settings by going to /etc/gps.conf from your phone's root directory.
I don't know if this will help but my GPS takes forever to aquire location. I found an app called gpsfix run that then run navigation and it should work.

Have GPS Status installed, but doesn't even find a single satellite. Just keeps scanning for GPS location indefinitely.
I had LauncherPro installed in Froyo and then upgraded to Gingerbread. It has now disappeared. I tried to uninstall and reinstall, and yet it still does not show up in my application list; only in settings->applications->Manage Applications. Don't have a clue how/why it is no longer accessible.

Some roms claim to do so, and some users will swear by it. However, there's no concrete evidence of it being the case, unless the rom directly tinkers with your GPS settings (something anyone can do manually)

Had this too on stock. I'm on a custom rom right now, but no GPS Status app to confirm. I'd put my GPS reliability around 65% (with AGPS)
edit: Sometimes, my GPS would act dead no matter how long it sits. A hard reboot usually does the trick, but not always

Gingerbread install must have set the default home launcher to the default touchwiz launcher. You can try going to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All and find TwLauncher. Under "Launch by default" click the [Clear defaults] buton and then push your Home button. It should let you choose between Launcher Pro and Tocuhwiz.
However, you can still add Launcher Pro shortcuts by long-pressing anywhere on your home screen even if you're not using Launcher Pro as your home launcher.
Do you have to leave it run in the foreground, or does it work in the background? I can't seem to find documentation on it....

That guide requires you to tinker with the GPS settings which, in your orignal post, suggests you were not able to access. After you're able to access the (angry)gps settings (via an app or launcher pro), you can follow the guide. It's a one-time fix, no app will be running in the background.
