Hello,
i am having problems with my phone GPS system. I used all the tricks and apps like Faster fix or GPS fix, etc i also used the *#*#3214789650*#*# fix explained by kyrillos13 and still nothing. I tried gps test on TTFF test and after like 20 minutes got a fix an ran all tests 5 times an got the fix after about 2 minutes at the end of the tests. But after 15 minutes when tried the GPS again nothing happend and also when using faster fix i got a message "NO FIX". I have the latest rom I5800XXJPQ updated with kies. It's not rooted.
Can someone help me in dealing with this GPS problem.
Thanks in advice!!!

yeah i should tell you i got this method from this thread..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778880
and also i flash my rom with Kyrillos v6 (non oc) this code do nothing on tht rom..
Fix didn't helped me much. I had to run test every time before using GPS unless it will "Your location is temporary unavailable". Any permanent fix? quite annoying to run test every time.

Hmm. Then no idea. :/ I get a good fix.
Hi,
Like you, tried everything after using Kies to upgrade to Froyo on my UK Orange I5801.
I do have Octy's GPS Optimisation loaded and I am rooted having used SuperOneClick, nothing else would do it, Thanks Orange!
None of the codes on the keypad worked either, they seem to have locked things even after rooting.
GPS Fix although looking like it worked, it didn't change the GPS config as shown later when I managed to create shortcut for GpsSetup2.
I do have LauncherPro, and this allowed me to make a shortcut on my homepage for GPSSETUP2, but I couldn't use it to create a shortcut for LbsTestMode, it's not there under Activities, which I understand would have been the easier route.
Using the newly created shortcut for GPSSetUP2 I was able to adjust the settings.
It was the blind leading the blind, but eventually I managed to set the config so that it now gets a fix in a matter of seconds, probably assisted by Octy's GPS Optimisation, I don't have the B*lls to uninstall it, why fix it if it ain't broke.
So here's my settings.

I hope this helps someone.

Thank you all for posting. I will try all your steps and with luck i will finally get a better signal and a more fast GPS connection.
I installed Sumee 3.1 which has some GPS fixes installed, and i could say that i get a fix at about 2-3 minutes and this after installing fasterfix.apk and after making the changes posted by kyrillos13.

I upgraded from 1.6 ATT to 1.6 02, to 2.1, to 2.2 (1.4.6) last night. My GPS is no longer working...I've searched the forums and only found this:
Get "GPS Status" from market; then:
1. Menu --> tools --> Manage A-GPS State --> Reset.
2. Menu --> tools --> Manage A-GPS State --> Download
Which I tried, but still not working. Anyone have ideas or a fix?
Thanks!
Hi there,
I had the exact same problem...
Tried the exact same thing as you and had the same luck.
It seemed that it was something to do with Geolocation as i saw that the GPS status was picking up the satilites.
I then stumbled around and found the following fix myself
I use beautiful widgets.
Tap the weather icon, the tap the middle button (opens up the configure section etc)
Tap configure, then goto advanced
Select FORCE GPS.
Then it worked, although after that I may have found another possible solution....
I very rarely use the google search bar. I did and it asked me to enable location, so maybe this is another way it would work... would be interesting to see if the second fix works first.
Anyway hope this helps & good luck
Tried enable location in google, no luck. Also downloaded beautiful widgets, went to advanced in weather app and checked force GPS, no luck. Any other ideas?
I take it the gps app is picking up the satilites?
Maybe its a case of re-flash

I have the same problem. It seems somewhat temperamental after the update. It can see and get a fix on 10+ satellites in GPS Status and other similar apps. But getting an accurate position in Google Maps is damn near impossible. Very frustrating.
Works on my updated streak stock froyo, just disabled a-gps; both Google maps and other apps using GPS gets exact fix...

DJ_Steve, I've had the same problem since moving to 1.4 from 1.1.1 (IIRC, 1.1.1 was fine and did not have this location problem).
Now, for this gpsfix.zip, do I just flash it from my recovery? Or are there some other steps to follow?
Hey guys.

I've tryed everything and everything was working just ones or twice..
soo you will test now many settings from XDA members - and all of these helps are very usefull.
But the point remains: samsung gps is ****y - their support is ****y...
Soo.
1) install application GPSbooster (octy's new one for froyo) OCTY - many thanks!!
2) install GPS status (which downloads from internet position of satelites: similiar to quickGPS from HTC)
3) enable in Gpssetup2 (use activities in LaunchPro) gpsOne XTRA (it will push downloaded positions to your gps)
4) in gpssetup2 go to SSL / enable SSL and choose google server (I don't know how to triger the download from the google server - that's why I use Gps status application)
5) run GET possition in Gpssetup2 for 15 minutes (ones a week ??)
IF you will not get the GPS quicly. Then leave GPS enabled. Switch off and on your samsung (with GPS enabled)
after this restart your GPS will RUN.
You will read many more about how to make GPS quick on i580 but Restart with enabled GPS will help always.
Thank you Samsung for your semi-product. Product is good, your gps pre-settings is semi.

I don't have the S2 yet, so can't test this, but on my SGS I use Any Cut to create a link directly to LbsTest. You might give that a try.
The option for assisted and standalone GPS is in the settings menu.

Sorry, not sure how to determine that. In Any Cut I select "New shortcut", then "Activity", and select "LbsTestMode". It creates the shortcut. I've tried the "Edit existing shortcut" function but it just sits there with a blank screen, so no help there.

that may work fine except there is no "lbstestmode" in the list on the sgs ii
here is the fix.. well mostly the antenna and cns tests dont seem to work or cns is broken on our phone.. anyway
take this app.. copy it to /system/app with root explorer or adb push.
(need to be rooted)
then use anycut (free in the market) to add an activity shortcut to this app (secret codes still fail to work)
i have set mine to coldstart a i like etc. and now am getting much faster initial fixes after running get position test.
accuracy is still **** and much higher than my sgs.. but not sure the sgs was not lying about accuracy.
strange they didn't include the lbstest app in the roms
I think GB comes with AngryGPS.apk (lbstestmode was for froyo/eclair), and the code to invoke it is *#3214789650# if I'm not mistaken..
Don't have the GSII though, so can't confirm..
Edit: Attached a AngryGPS.apk found in the I9000 Android dev forum

Since you have this working can you tell us what the default setup is for the SUPL/CP settings? On the SGS many people got better results by modifying the Server to either "supl.google.com" or "supl.nokia.com". I know this could turn into another mishmash of user tweaks and deadends, but it seems Samsung has not fully resolved all their GPS issues.
(I don't have a S2 to test with, so relying on those here to help me make a buying decision. Thanks.)
new solution here is angrygps.apk
i asked someone in the sgs forum to post it and they did
again copy to system/app with root explorer or adb
and use anycut to create shortcut
works fine on our phone..
as for the other answer the default is hot start (which i change to cold start)
and also for suppl settings
it is
supl.google.com
7276
but supl secure socket is on.. which was not on on the sgs i
so i turned it off on mine.. (who the fff cares if your gps data going over the net is secure)

Just as a suggestion if you are having GPS issues you might try using supl.nokia.com, 7275. I've tried every tweak on my SGS and using this supl server definitely works best for me, as well as a number of posters on the SGS forum. But as always YMMV.

Hi,
I'm an Android noob. I recently picked up a Fascinate 3G+ from Telus (T959D) and noticed that the GPS wasn't working at all; could never get a lock. I just upgraded to Gingerbread this morning hoping that the update would resolve the issue, and it did momentarily, but now the GPS is worthless again (no lock at all).
Searching the web, I find a lot of "fixes", but they all seem to relate to Froyo. I haven't seen anything specific for Gingerbread releases.
I tried to update the AGPS configurations (as per several threads indicated) by dialing *#*#1472365#*#* , but as soon as I enter the final *, the number gets wiped out and nothing happens (just remains at the dialer with a blank entry). I don't know if this is because it is a Telus Fascinate and not a Vibrant/Captivate/etc, or if it is because of Gingerbread.
Either way, does anyone know or have any suggestions on how to fix the GPS under Gingerbread? I love the phone, but this GPS issue is driving me nuts.
Thanks,
Eric
It's universally accepted that the stock SGS phones have terrible GPS. I've had trouble in the past accessing the LbsTestMode (GPS Settings menu) on my phone due to differing phone codes and whatnot.
You can try downloading some apps from the market that bypass the dialer and just runs the service directly (SGS Tools for example)
I personally use Launcher Pro as my home replacement for Touchwiz, and using that I can create a shortcut directly to the GPS settings.
Here's a guide outlining how to get to it:
http://www.gmachine.net/tech/1-click-gps-settings-with-launcher-pro-activities/
The custom rom I use does not have the lbstest service though so I can't verify
You can also access some of the gps settings by going to /etc/gps.conf from your phone's root directory.
I don't know if this will help but my GPS takes forever to aquire location. I found an app called gpsfix run that then run navigation and it should work.

Some roms claim to do so, and some users will swear by it. However, there's no concrete evidence of it being the case, unless the rom directly tinkers with your GPS settings (something anyone can do manually)

Had this too on stock. I'm on a custom rom right now, but no GPS Status app to confirm. I'd put my GPS reliability around 65% (with AGPS)
edit: Sometimes, my GPS would act dead no matter how long it sits. A hard reboot usually does the trick, but not always
I had LauncherPro installed in Froyo and then upgraded to Gingerbread. It has now disappeared. I tried to uninstall and reinstall, and yet it still does not show up in my application list; only in settings->applications->Manage Applications. Don't have a clue how/why it is no longer accessible.

Gingerbread install must have set the default home launcher to the default touchwiz launcher. You can try going to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All and find TwLauncher. Under "Launch by default" click the [Clear defaults] buton and then push your Home button. It should let you choose between Launcher Pro and Tocuhwiz.
However, you can still add Launcher Pro shortcuts by long-pressing anywhere on your home screen even if you're not using Launcher Pro as your home launcher.
Do you have to leave it run in the foreground, or does it work in the background? I can't seem to find documentation on it....

That guide requires you to tinker with the GPS settings which, in your orignal post, suggests you were not able to access. After you're able to access the (angry)gps settings (via an app or launcher pro), you can follow the guide. It's a one-time fix, no app will be running in the background.
I know there are several tutorials on xda on this but I am posting this which I tried myself after going through the bits and pieces here and there. Dont kill me ...
Here we go... First you need a few apps
1. GpsFix
2. Gps status
3. Faster fix
Next you need to know how to access the /etc folder where the gps.conf is located...use any root explorer to find this file.
Back it up.
Now open it...it should read something like this-
NTP_SERVER=north-america.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
That's the default. Change the "north-america" to your area...for eg- europe.ntp.org or asia.ntp.org...better still if you know your country's code which you can get from ntp.org...for eg- in.ntp.org (india) ru.ntp.org(russia)
Thats it... Add the following lines at the end of the file
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
Save it...voila your gps.conf is done...
Now if you dont want to go through all this trouble...just download fasterfix from play and configure it...it's a very simple app..no hassles..plus you can remove the app when you are done.
Next...open up Gps Settings2...in kisadworx its there in the settings. But for other roms...use this code in your dialer-
*#*#3214789650#*#*
Right...now goto gpsOneXTRA and enable Xtra enable (i dunno the purpose of this...does anyone know?)
Next goto settings>fix request settings
Check the following-
Session Type-latest position
Session Operation- MS-based
Number of fixes-999999999
Time between fixes-1000
Session timeout-255
Accuracy-100
Server option-default
Right...we are done here...dont mess around with anything else...
Next get the gps status app...start it and from tools>manage a-gps state>download...let it take its time
The other app gpsfix does the same thing...just a bit light on the UI...
Its takes time initially to get the fix...once you are done...you'll get a gps fix under 1 sec...(mine takes 600 ms approx)
Thats it...hope it helps...
.:cheers:.
sent from my GT-I5801
Edit: this may sound noobish but it works everytime...in gps status set the session type to tracking and then in commands goto get position test...when you start getting a few satellite positions, cancel the test and change the session type to latest. Now the gps fix should take a second.
.:Cheers:.
