Videos - Streaming, Playing - ARGH!

okay - I could pretty much stream a full size DIVX thanks to EVDO Rev a - HOWEVER, here is my problem.
I go to any of the windows mobile video sites (I'm using the most recent DCD rom) and try to load it up. Pops up Windows Media player and then proceeds to.............. chug along.
I can't get a clean, stable streamed video. Not only that, but I can't seem to find ANY sites that have news/tv/blah - AT ALL.
Maybe I'm searching wrong - Maybe the sites I'm going to are slow as snot, who knows.
I do know that TCPMP works great for Divx, just tested that out, but I have unlimited internet, a connection that's faster than most people's home internet.... and, well - I CAN NOT USE IT!
Please help me utilize the super fast speeds of my phone so I can feel the glee when I see 800+ megs of usage

I use TCPMP along with the flashvideo bundle to watch mostly youtube videos ( or sites compatible with the flashvideo bundle )
But I recently bought the successor to TCPMP Core Player I use this to view videos from websites that are not supported with the Flash Video Bundle & TCPMP, movies, some You Tube Videos, and more.
Plus It has other great features. (Just a second option )

Great clean look to the program and website. Music is fast and plays clean.. Great find.

Can you download the music? I know on ipod touch when i used this, with a safari plugin I could download the music as well. Great find either way, downloading now.

Music playback sounded very choppy. Also it works on WQVGA (Omnia) but is not designed for it. The player fills up 300x240 of the screen, leaving a piece with nothing in it but the desktop.

Music playback on fuze is great, no choppiness at all over 3g connection, evening switching songs in playlist only takes a couple seconds. Now just need to figure out how to directly download the songs

Same here, It worked nice and smooth on my Mogul (Titan) w/ EvDO rev A, no lag, very little load time...

I suggest changing the title of this thread, I'd like to see as many people as possible get this before the deadline.

very nice. for the previous question, i don't think you can download to your phone, but the link where it's getting the song from is listed.

It doesn't have a volume control so it's not very useful unless you want to carry around a pair of 300 ohm studio headphones.

I can not play youtube videos. I can search and browse through the categories, but when i want to play a video i get back to the starting screen.
Anybody else with this problem?

select one to the RTSP formats. works for most but still not all videos.

hi. i just try to copy the files in windows directory. no way. no video, no audio.
very curios if i download a wmv9 test file and open it with tcmp or corepl it works correctly. but if i wanna stream from maxdome.com it dont work ???
on windows media player it works. there is video and audio!!!!!!

Well I tried to open a dvx movie with tcpmp and I could not get anything but few purple lines.... and the pro2 freezed.
The same movie with the same tcpmp works perfecly on my old htc touch!

im having loads of issues with core player so much i have stopped using it
i purchased it and it plays everything but it just laggs and stutters along so much its un watchable
any tips on how to sort it out would be great, i keep hearing its the muts nuts of media players but so far ive struggled with it
on one file its played 265 frames dropped 1923 and a FPS of 3.63 this is an mpeg4 files 800 x 480 avc h264

Same lag and stutters overhere. Any solutions out there allready?
Default mediaplayer suddenly stopped working on my TP2, though the quality was way better then the core player's. Too bad it doesn't work no more.

can anyone help with this after paying for core player it wont play anything with out stuttering along

everything used to lag for me in coreplayer, including videos but if i switch the audio settings to higher priority for mp3 files they play without a hitch. now if only i can find out how to do the same for videos

Add me to the list of VERY unsatisfied results with Coreplayer on the TP2... it absolutely SUCKS. BIG TIME. Laggy and crappy... how is a man suppose to watch all those great videos stuttering!

I had the same issue (laggy, ...) a couple of months ago. I sent an email to CorePlayer support and got this answer back :
"Hello,
This is a known issue and we are working with several people on trying to track it down and are hopeful to have it included with the next release. I can offer you a full refund if you would like.
Regards,
CoreCodec Support Group"
They expect to release the new version by the end of this month.
Just have to wait...

Great on TP2
Coreplayer is running great on my TP2. Watched 2 movies today and the video looked great and frames were solid. Honestly its the best thing i did for my TP2 yet. I dont believe it will handle 800x480 but a little bit lower resolution should still be fine and the video scales very well. REFUND!!!
So I just sent my refund request for Coreplayer. It has a bug with Tv-Out causing it to show a blue flicker. Also it has no real hardware support yet. The best thing I found was the Touch HD gui encoder program. It puts your videos into formats the built in players can use and those do have hardware support. So while coreplayer is a great app its not for the TP2.

Disable DirectDraw in TCPMP. Use GDI mode.
I am not sure if the following has any effect when DirectDraw is disabled, but this is the way I have it:
Select Options\Settings, then click on "Select page" and select DirectDraw.
You will see three options. Only select the one that says "use blitting instead of overlay"
This worked for me...

KINOMA PLAY - should I buy?

So far I can't get video to play nice with TCMPC - no matter what settings I try (ie: all of them), video is jerky and drops a ton of frames.
I d/led Kinoma (free) which is good for nothing, cos of its limite3d codecs. But you can't try out the full version without buying it.
Anybody tried on the TP2 and got good quality playback with MP4/H264 etc etc?

I know the old core player works if you switch the video mode to GDI.
I have read the newer one works if you switch the video mode to bitmap or bitblit (?)

I have the pay version of Kinoma, I'm extremely pleased with it...but I've only watched a couple short MP4's on it. I can say though I didn't see any issues at all with them...

I use SBP TV and Wunderadio for my tv and radio fix, works alright so far.

I just want a video player that doesn't need me to re-encode my avi's mp4's H264's etc. Most of mine are already encoded at, or below, WVGA.
I'm pretty certain this isn't down to the processor in the TP2. I ahve a four (five)) year old Palm TX and that plays anything I throw at it (via TCMPC).
Are people saying that video plays smoothly with the (paid for version) ofr Core Player, so long as you set it right? TCMPC certainly doesn't NOT, no matter what settings I give it. I'm dropping nine frames out of every 25!!

CorePlayer sucks balls for AVC codecs. Do not buy it for that! I have Final Fantasy Advent Children encoded at 800x480 @ ~1.2Mbit and Coreplayer can't handle it at all. It's running maybe 0.1 FSP. Now on the other hand if I just play it through HTC's Media Player it runs great!

I did purchase Kinoma Play and I absolutely love it!!

I just got me a hd2, and really want BBC iplayer to be better... I have changed the opera config so I allows it to play, but most programs are blurry and low qaulity. I have played the same tv program(top gear) through YouTube and the quality is great.. is this the same for everyone??? is it low quality due to iplayer thinking its the HD not HD2 and sending lower grade files??? I also saw in properties its 300x175, is it just a case of waiting for the BBC to upgrade it for the hd2??? any info or help would be great thanks.

It's fairly blurry, yes. The standard iPlayer resolution for mobile devices is something like 320x176. The HD2 almost certainly isn't powerful enough to play back iPlayer material intended to be played on desktop PCs. You may find that downloading the "mobile" wmv file using a desktop PC gives slightly better quality - the resolution is the same, but the bit-rate is probably higher. The best option is probably to use the myplayer application - it offers .mov downloads on some (not all) programmes which are 480x270 resolution, and with a much higher bit-rate. That should look as good as the iPhone does, at least. Note that download quality and streaming quality are very different using myplayer.

You'll have a long wait. Phones like the Touch Pro2 and Touch Diamond2 still aren't officially supported despite having been out since last April. If you expect to get better playback quality out of iPlayer on any mobile device than you can get using myplayer's download facility (which gives much better quality than streaming) then you'll have an even longer wait.
It's probably partly a rights management thing. YouTube tends to play rather fast and loose with copyright violations: stuff gets put up there and then, if someone feels that it violates their copyright, they ask YouTube to take it down. iPlayer, on the other hand, has to be much more careful: anything you download and play is supposed to expire and become unplayable within 7 days, and anything you download and don't play expires within 30 days. Enforcing this sets some limits on the video formats that iPlayer can use.

You also have to consider the iPhone's smaller resolution and physical screen size will make iPlayer content look sharper even if the HD2 was running exactly the same video, especially if you're running it in full screen on the HTC. It's one of the few drawbacks of the HD2's 480x800 display.

I found a way to play iplayer videos on the HD2 with the same quality like being found on the Iphone (actually looks better because of the big screen), it's an off-line solution though and requires a PC.
Go here and download the application:

Run the application (no install needed) and open the iplayer site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer
Search for the desired show and paste the link to the programme ID field of the application.
Click Download and browse to the folder you want the file to be saved to, hit Save and the video will be saved as a .mov file with H.264 video and mp3 audio(no DRM).
To be able to play it on the HD2 simple rename the file extension from .mov to mp4, save it to your HD2 microSD card and enjoy the DRM free video in its 480x272 glory with either the HTC Video player or WMP.
Keep in mind you need to be in the UK to access the streams or at least use a server in the UK (like UKiVPN or something similar).

That's doing exactly the same thing as myplayer, I think - although I've never tried renaming the .mov downloads from myplayer to give them a .mp4 file extension. I'll have to give that a try.

Probably but with this solution you can download pretty much every video, not just the ones offered for download by the myplayer application.
In addition, myplayer doesn't display streamed content in 480x270, at least it doesn't for me.

It's a bit of a crude hack but it works. One could extract the streams from the .mov file with e.g. Yamb and remux them as .mp4 to do it properly.

Hi - going slightly OT here but.. - could you explain how you managed to get the iPayer feeds to work via myPlayer and Coreplayer on the HD2? I just can't get it to work - latest version everything (ROM 1.48, myPlayer 6th Dec, CorePlayer v1.3.6).
In fact I can't get Coreplayer to view any RSTS feeds??

That's strange, I am using Coreplayer with mostly standard settings, Video is set to GDI with smooth zoom always on, works without a hitch.
Do you get an error message, does CP start at all? Have you checked if the path to CP has been set properly in the Myplayer application?
If you haven't try streaming via the myplayer server and see if that makes a difference.

Through some trial & error this evening (ie. some time to kill on a train!) I solved the problem: you need to go into CorePlayer > Menu > Tools > Settings > Select Page > Network (obvious so far!) > then UNTICK "Prefer UDP streaming" = bingo.. BBC iPlayer links now work (as do RTSP streams in general)!
Now - this takes us back to the original question which I'm suspecting will be harder if not impossible to solve, at least in the short term - the poor quality of the blocky feed!

Glad to hear you got it to work. The 'prefer UDP streaming' selected doesn't really cause any trouble in my case, so go figure.
I read that Myplayer selects the lower quality stream available as it was intended to be used with older/less powerful phones in the first place.
The Wifi setting doesn't really make a difference in quality in my case.
Would be great, if the higher quality stream could be selected from within the application.

You can't stream 480x270 content using iplayer-downloader either. The 480x270 stuff is for downloads only, regardless of method.
As for "pretty much every video" if you read the small-print for iplayer-downloader you'll see this:
It won’t download every programme that’s on the iPlayer website, because they’re not always available. Sometimes, this is by design (as in the case of expensive US series like Heroes); sometimes it’s due to omission or transient problems. In addition, it can’t currently download the embedded videos that are not part of the main iPlayer offering.

I'm fairly sure it's doing exactly the same thing - impersonating an iPhone.
The two complement each other - myplayer lets you get hold of the download directly onto your phone over wifi (or, in principle, over 3G, although you'd use up your data allowance pretty fast that way!) while iplayer-downloader lets you download over your domestic ADSL connection and copy to the phone - both are potentially useful.
Oh and the renaming trick does work for stuff downloaded using myplayer as well. Thanks for that tip: playback in HTCAlbum is hugely much better than in TCPMP and noticeably better than in Coreplayer.
