hi everyone,
My friend's phone start behaving oddly lately. It power up OK. A few minutes into running the right side of the screen will start being fuzzy. This gradualy makes it worse untill the shole screen goes white. Is the display broken on it or is it something even worse.
Thanks
its 100% the display screen, better get it replaced or checked soon
Thanks. Will try to open it for him first. May be just a connector fault on the screen itself.

Today I noticed that my 8525 has a weird red tint on the screen whenever I close the keyboard. On the right hand side of the screen, there is a line, and everything to the right of the line has a weird red tint. If I open th phone slowly, the line dissapears at the same rate that i'm opening the phone. It almost seems like something underneath the screen is... pushing on it from below or something? Just a guess. Also the screen's alignment pretty much doesn't work at all anymore, like its the curser will either be on all the way to the left, or all the way to the right. never where i am pushing. Quite annoying.
Thanks for any help!
Me Too!
The same exact thing is happening to my phone too. Sometimes when I slide it back and forth a lot it will dissapear but come back again later when I move the slider. It appears when the slider is slightly off of the closed postition. It never appears when it is open. I think it may have too do with the cable being loose between the main body and the upper screen part or the magnet which detects the slider postition is interfering with the LCD. Any solutions yet?
Hello, My G1 has just suffered a problem, i was scrolling down a web page and the screen faded out like it had lost power but the backlight was still on, the keys lit up and it still could make the trackball clicking noise when you moved it. I took out the battery and left it for 5 minutes and rebooted my phone and the screen turned on for about 3 seconds and faded out like before but it did boot into android as I heard the notification/startup sound. I think that the screen has burnt out but im not shore so has anybody had this problem before and/or might know how to fix it
Just some more infomation, If the screen dies and I leave it for a few minutes, when I unlock it or slide the screen up, the screen works for a few seconds but then fades. Also the fading looks like the screen lost power or like its losing pixels
From my experience with phone hardware this doesnt look like screen problem, but rather the lamp driver in the motherboard. the only way to narrow down is test the motherboard /screen with another phone.
If this is the case, it might require servicing the backlight driving circuit, which by far requries soldering/desoldering some components in motherboard.

had the same problem its a hardware issue. tmobile sent me a new phone no questions asked
Thanks for the replies, it seems that it has fixed its self as I've been using it for about 5 hours and no problems so far, I'm using it right now to type this, if the problem persists I will try and fix it or just buy a new one
my htc hermes (herm100) does the occasional white screen here and there, but i dropped it (like a foot away from the floor) and it almost always white screens, the phone will come on, the ATT logo (like the bios thing) will load up and everything, but as soon as its about to play the 3g animation, the screen fades to white, but everything works, the 3g sound plays, the screen responds to touch, etc. the screen also displays perfectly when i start to do a hard reset, the screen comes up to press r and all that, then space to boot, then the screen goes white again. i've taken the phone apart, checked everything out, made sure the ribbon cables and such were set properly, everything. If this helps, my camera had stopped working the night before...when i would click the camera button or started it from programs, it would say somethin along the lines of "the camera could not be started. initialization of camera failed" and i was actually gunna be asking about that right now til it uber white screened. Any help is appreciated.
White screen
Hi i'm also having the same problem with my hermes 300, Dropped off the back of the bed onto skirting board, about 1 1/2 feet. Started to white screen soon after this. Like you say when you format it the screen is fine until it gets past the first boot screen then slowly fades to white. Have heard stories about the ribbon cable to the navigation on the front. any help apreciated
Update: Took Hermes apart nad reseated the d-pad ribbon, everything seems ok. Thanks to Mike channon for the Disassembly manuals. Hope this helps other people.
Hello.
The other day my phone suffered a little water damage. Not submerged in water or anything, but a couple drops found their way into the phone. The phone was turning off/on and functioning, but the display was black. I could feel buttons being pressed and stuff...the screen just wasn't illuminated. Well, I left it alone for a while, and now the screen works to a degree.
It's functioning perfectly, except it can't go above 40% brightness or the phone's screen goes black. As soon as I move the slider at or below 40%, the screen works perfectly again.
Obviously whatever illuminates the screen is damaged to some degree. The same thing happens when using apps like Lux...so I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem now. I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what exactly could be damaged so I can fix it myself, or have anything to try before taking it apart again.
Thanks!

Did You ever get to the bottom of this?
Having the same exact problem?
Hello,
My tablet dropped on the floor yesterday. Small fall, and it has a cover. There is no visual damage, but ever since, the touch screen acts weirdly. Works on top and bottom, but not in the center area. So, I have a hard time to even shut it down, as the Stop button is in the center of the screen. I succeeded in rebooting and the problem was resolved for maybe an hour. But then it came back and now even after rebooting, touch screen is still faulty. Also, the screen will turn on by itself every few minutes, even if I don't touch the top right side button. Never happened before the fall...
What can I do to fix this? Is there a software fix? Is it hardware? If so, how much is it to change a touch screen? Am I SOL and will have to look to buy another tablet? This really sucks anyway as this tablet was still perfect for my needs.
Thanks for any input.
