Hi all,
I've spent the last 3 weeks searching through everything so as not to waste anyones time with a simple question but to no avail.
I've been given an XDA II from a family member as they have upgraded to the Exec and I have been using it as a PDA only. Well I see that Orange have some good deals on the go and so decide to use it as a phone/Internet enabled PDA.
I've unlocked it (many times now) got 2003SE on it and have put the correct MMS and GPRS settings in (The ones from Shadamehr). I've checked with Orange and GPRS is enabled on my account with them (PAYG at the mo) but for some reason the same thing that was happening when I first got it pops up
"Cannot connect
There is no modem at the above number..."
So best my small mind can figure is that somehow the 'phone part' of the PDA isn't working. I've tried other sims in it and they don't work either (o2 and Three - but I think Three is funny anyways). Is there something wrong with the actual phone bit?
It's a legit XDA with the M1000 ROM upgrade from the orange site which has made it 2003SE
Does anyone have any knowledge about how I can get my PDA to be a phone? It was once before (but with O2)
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

No modem at above number
Thanks for the link, but believe me I've tried this. I retried it to be sure just now.
"No modem at above number" is what I get after the XDA II tries to connect.
I have no phone reception whatsoever, no internet and no SMS.
My XDA II just works as a PDA with no communication possiblities apart from USB cradle.
Again, thanks in advance for any and all help with this.

If there's no phone reception, and no GPRS, how do you expect to connect to one?
Not to be mean or anything, but aren't your hopes of connecting a little farfetched if all the systems you're trying to use are down?

Your not being mean, believe me after a month of searching through here and SPV developers anything that wuld resolve this issue would be appreciated.
Why would the phone element of my XDA just stop working? I can only imagine some sort of Hardware fault but I'm a thorough bunny and would like to make sure of this. A diagnostic app or some way of reading the phone element like a device driver would be handy.
So in brief, why has my phone part of my XDA II stopped working and how do I switch it back on again (if this is at all possible)?
Thank you for your replies thusfar Cynagen, I shall start to ask these questions in the Himalaya forum also now since it seems model specific and not network related.
Any and all further assistance is much appreciated.

Hi Folks,
Just upgraded from an O2 XdA IIs to an iMate JasJar.. Niiiice piece of kit I did the upgrade so I could connect to 3, as they were the only provider that I could find that would let me do a data bundle on my mobile plan (I'm out of the office a lot of the time, so like to get my email via gprs). Anyhoo, everything's working great, except I can't seem to get the right settings for MMS.
So I'm hoping someone here has a universal on 3 here in .au and has MMS working, and can tell me what config they're using..
Thanks,
Damien
G'day Rendrag,
I have seen alot of people having problems with getting 3 MMS to work on their non sold 3 phones, have you checked out the settings here that some people have posted? http://www.aussie3g.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=14311&highlight=3services
I will soon to be investigating this once my m5000 arrives. Apparently everything else works fine on the 3 network.
Cheers

Hi Ahrjay,
Those are the settings I'm using, but sending MMS's just doesn't work.. I've seen plenty of people on aussie3g.com saying they can't get MMS working but there's been no posts about it since february, so I thought I'd post over here incase someone knew
Regards,
Damien
I thought i made a post in here last nite about my problems too, but i dunno what happened, sufficed to say, i like to consider that i have fairly good know how, when it comes to this sort of stuff, and i can't work out, how to send an mms for the life of me...
and i've tried, everything i can think of... i just can get it to work, i hope someone out there can help us out..
FWIW I have been trying for months as well.
I even tried ringing the help number, but the're useless. They ask what phone you have and when its not one of the "three" phones they have no idea what to do.
Perhaps bumping this up to the front page might help.
Jon
Anyone have any success yet????
Not me.. I even went to the trouble of making a bit of a scene at the hutchinson stand at CeBIT the other month over their MMS not working and them not giving a stuff, but the tech guys all ran for cover, and left the sales guys going 'ummm'.

Grr... what the hell is going on?
Surely the phone, is capable of doing it all and then some...
So I have to ask, where is the problem lying? Is it in some sort of I.D. being rejected? Connection settings? Or some sort of software malfunction?
To my understanding, Vodaphone have recently started selling these phones, so i would guess, that they're service is compatiable in every way with the jasjar????

Hmm, might be worth a trip down to the local vodaphone store and have a look at what settings they use, and see if they're anything like what we're trying to use on three?

Hmm... well the settings would be different, as they will all be different server...
I think, it's an I.D. thing personally. I think the JasJar is sending some infomation and 3 is just rejecting the whole mms. But i could be way off, i don't know.
What i'm really curious about, is how vodaphone would support their content service, as i can't think of any way to play RTSP streams on a WM5 device. Which is pretty much how all the content on 3 is streamed, making it in-accessible for all of us with Universal's, and all future WM5 devices....
I think this is a universal 3 network issue for the Universal
I think it would be good if we discuss this all in one universal "3" thread .....I think this thread is a good one to discuss it in because there are people from other countries on the 3 network also trying to sort out similar issues and there know how is also very helpful.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=51646
I've been trying since MAR and no avail. I can "send" MMS to myself and it'll come (so I get the subject header) but when I try to download the actual content it gives some stupid error (the same happens when ppl MMS me - get the header but no content)
Three network
Hi all,
Everyone around the world seem to be having the same issues with the Three network.
I think it might be a good idea if with consolidate all the Three network discussion to one thread. Then maybe if we combine efforts we will find the solutions.
This is the thread I think would be good to move all the discussion to as it already has some good stuff in there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=51646
I hope you think its a good idea too....and we see you in there.
hi all,
i have just bought a new O2 Exec.. I was wondering what software/tweaks you guys recommend.
Regards,
frz
i also just have my dopod 900, similar to o2 exec and i still dont know what to install. I saw something about AKU2 or AKU3 on the forum but dont know where to download, can someone please advice/help us as my device was sometimes cannot received data signal while connecting to internet.
I just download TCPMP player to the device and it was a great staff to play with and I will not use the WMP for movie/tv.
Guys, I've just bought myself a new suit.
Would you like to come over and try it on for me?
Come on - a little work on your side will be necessary, and searching is the best way to show that you've tried.
Have a read through this thread for guidelines on using the board:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4534
And then have a look here for a starter:

AKU stuff - get started slowly before you start modifying the OS too much, as a lot of the stuff on the board can make your system unstable if used incorrectly. Configure your basics, get yourself some good backup software, and then check out the wiki and the ftp.
Most of the newer roms will have some AKU support already in, I think.

Danlee....
Just out of curiosity....how much is internet connectivity in M'sia?
I'm planning on coming home during the CNY and would like to use the service if it's not too expensive.
Would you mind posting the cost of the internet connection and who the provider is?
Will it be available prepaid?
Thanks.
Fellow M'sian in US.
To vijay555,
Thanks a lot but i cant do downdoading now cause i am on GPRS connection now. But i will visit your site when i got back home.
To Moden man,
The cost for GPRS connection will be 1 cent for 1kb. You can only use 3G in KL area. You can access by using DiGi, Celcom and Maxis as your service provider.
I'll admit, I take a lot of good info from these boards and am usually far too busy to post. But this time I feel I have something great to share.
I bought a TyTN the other day...got here Wednesday. I was sick so I didn't start to play much with it until today.
Let me just set the tone here: I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET AROUND MY CORPORATE IT DEPARTMENT FOR YEARS. FIRST I GOT MY SPRINT TREO TO GET BLACKBERRY EMAILS, BUT NOT TRUE PUSH...THEN I GAVE UP FOR A WHILE AND USED A SPRINT 7250...but BB's are A WASTE, LESS FUNCTIONAL, and just a POOR CHOICE for today's mobile professional.
Now I have found today: The HTC TyTN can VERY EASILY be made into a corporate BES-connected Blackberry if you so desire, and conencted to YOUR CURRENT corporate BES account, without their intervention! I have done this with my Sprint 7250 BB account, and done it back and forth all day from T-mo to Cingular (Cingular wins out because of 3G of course...gotta have good slingbox when I can!)
All you need is a 'blackberry enabled SIM card' (really, just add the unlimited BES ENABLED (NOT THE "PERSONAL") blackberry plan to T-mo or Cingular) and a corporate BES account (that you haven't been able to touch for years, LOCKING you to a USELESS paperweight of a dumb-phone!) I know some others were lucky enough to have a Cingular SIM card in their corporate BB already and this wasn't a big deal. But I was not and I see many other are having trouble starting out with with non-Cingular blackberry devices. So check out how I ended up getting my way, finally after 4 years!
0) Insert (or go buy) a personal, non-blackberry-enabled Cingular (3G) SIM card. You should be able to surf for UMTS/HSDPA data and all that...
1) Install BBConnectr_PocketPC_BB_2.1.2.16 on the HTC TyTN.
2) Install Activesync2.1.1.9 for mobile on the desktop.
3) Connect the HTC to the computer via USB, then open PC's Activesync 2.1.1.9. You will be asked if you want to change your PIN -- say YES! (you can always go back. Remember, it DOES NOT MATTER what service your BB is CURRENTLY through...we are going to make it through Cingular for you here in a second!)
4) Call Cingular and have them add the unlimited $49.95 blackberry plan, assumedly on top of your unlimited data plan. While I was willing to pay $145 a month to have everything in one device, just to spite my corporate IT department, here's the catch: They will come back and say you can't have both! Take the Unlimited blackberry plan (which will allow the PocketPC BB Connect software you installed to get through Cingular's network to "blackberry.net" So Instead of $40 for unlimited data, $10 more is getting my (and i have tested it) 3G data and blackberry.net access!
From there, you should be good like me.
I'm still figuring out the nuances, like how to minimize down-time after web surfing for BB connect to get back 'connected' again. I suspect in an all-3G area (in which i am NOT), this may not be an issue.
I have placed the updated, verified as working (on both T-mo and Cingular) versions of Activesync2.1.1.9 and BBConnect_PocketPC_BB_2.1.2.16 in the "upload" directory of the web site. (as well as the 2.1 manual) That is /Hermes/Tools_and_Programs. Hopefully it gets moved over soon.
Keep on rocking everyone -- we are forging new capabilities together that make our lives easier, more fun, and more convenient!
Love and bruises,
Greg
It's your IT group that's at fault btw... I'm the technology guy for our IT group and we're getting rid of the BES and switching to direct push instead. Why? Tell your IT dept this: a BES places a 50% higher IO load on your Exchange server . This is because it must scan all blackberry enabled mailboxes every second or so looking for changes!
Now that devices like the Q have the MSFP, our execs have a nice alternative to their 8700s.
I've also installed LCS 2K5 with an Access Proxy and we are now all moving to Mobile Communicator for IM. This is a great little program that also gateways to AIM and Yahoo.
I believe IT should empower their users with technology, not be a bunch of Nazis.....

Could you please point out what is the difference between your uploads and the file here?

Just a quick one on this has anyone tried this on a XDA Exec on orange??
BAH ! ! !
Tytn has more functions, but isn't nearly as good of a phone - especially for someone who spends a lot of time driving

Sorry .. couldn't resist myself.
even though this doesnt belong in this forum i figured you guys would know. do cingular blackberrys (the 8700) work on the new 3g network? and can u install AIM (a version that does not use text messages)?
Just tested TyTN with BIS and BES solutions, all works fine!!!
Messages are coming through UMTS channel where UMTS signal is available!
When you get an email via BES, can you read the attachments though?
does it also wirelessly sync your calendar and contacts with BES?
I seem to have it all working but when I restart the tytn, the blackberry service doesn't connect. The config program says 'no connection' (although it was fine right after I installed) Has anyone else seen this and got round it?
Quick config question on BBConnect...
For all those that have this successfully working on a TyTN - did you have to tweak any connection settings on the PPC ?
I've installed BBConnect (2.1.2.16) onto the PPC and BBDesktop (2.1.1.18) onto the PC. Used Activesync and got all my calendar entries over. Now when I come to have the BBC connect wirelessly, it fails to connect and eventually goes into 'Suspended by User' state.
I played around and defined a connection called 'Blackberry' with all the settings 'blackberry.net, rim, password etc..) and can now actually get it to Connect successfully...
The issue now is that no email flows.... in fact nothing flows at all and I can't send a message as it indicates it's a 'malformed message'.
Any ideas ?
I've had Cingular confirm that my data account is set up for 'BlackBerry Connect Unlimited'...
I never had a blackberry before so I'm into new territory here...
Any advice on how to get this working ?
Cheers
Dave
Does anybody knows which is the correct cingular blackberry plan for USA??????
Since some of you appear to have gotten Blackberry Connect working with Cingular on a mobile device I'm hoping you can give me some useful information. I have the service in place from Cingular, and have the understanding that with Blackberry Connect from Cingular I need no other data plan from them. It will cover all of my other data services. This part seems to be working fine. What's not working is the Blackberry Connect software itself. It always gives me "Blocked - Radio In Use". I am wondering if it is because I have a connection set up for "MY ISP" based on Cingulars default installation. If it's supposed to be using Blackberry Connect for data, should I be deleting the MY ISP configuration? Could that be what's keeping the radio in use? I would assume the only thing using the radio should be the Blackberry Connect service since that's the only plan I have.
Help?
Thanks
I get a message that the program cannot determine the type of network and to ensure the radio is on when I try to run Blackberry Connect for Pocket PC on my unlocked HP hw6945. It installed fine from the hosted exe file.
My theory is that the problem is the program is looking for the phone's frequency/band settings in WM5. The HP hides these as it features an automatic band/frequency transition radio. Does anyone know how to unhide WM5's menu and settings for the phone band/frequency?
BTW I have a new 64k Cingular smartcard sim with Blackberry Connect service (verified working with my Blackberry 7100t unlocked).
Hi all !
Was anybody able to run BlackBerry Connect on Cingular 1.31 ROM ?
It was run without any problems for me on 1.34, but does not work on 1.31.
Anybody else with the same problem ?
Regards,
baudy2
I followed HTC TyTN - Replace your blackberry instructions and software installs fine on Cingular 8525. I received system book from BES, but after the 8525 connects, a few minutes latter the Blackberry goes to "Suspended by user" and email is never received. Does anything else need to be setup, ie a different connection in the network connections on the device?
Thanks

The Calendar and Contacts works fine!! You need to find the contacts....its the same of BBconnect for Nokia.
But you cant view all the attachments, only excel, word.....
Not read .jpg .mp3 and more.
HP6945 update
I happened to go overseas last week and while there and roaming on O2 I was able to get past the second screen and get the BB Connect to start. However, it would not generate the PIN (status: "pending"). Hoping that once past that obstacle once back on Cingular US I could get further, but no joy.
Right now I'm trying the Xpress Mail product which pushes and syncs calendar and email via a redirector; it seems to be finicky though.
Anyone that has any success on installing BB on X1? I tried version 103 and 104 but the result is the same i.e it installs doing the rebooting but it can’t register it on my network so no PIN and there for I cant do enterprise activation. Any suggestions, please. BTW Spoke to SE today and there is an upgrade coming before December (what a surplice )
i also tried everthing, still no chance (pin pending).
anyone succeeded?
Me too, I tried the version used for my previous HTC Touch Pro but it was unable to get registered and no pin generated.
I also need this software badly.
couldn't get it working on my phone. it would connect to the blackberry apn for one second but then disconnect.
to all hackers out there. please make blackberry connect working on X1. THANK YOU!!!
Really kind of sad as there are no BB Connect for X1 after so long and I need it to check my emails on the go.
any good news until now?
Hello Guys!

And what I see was very.....what can I say......exciting. I get a PIN!! But now, I have the problem that i cant login in on the blackberry site from o2.
I hope that anyone can use this information to bring full bb service to xperia!!!!!!
