Dear all,
My Softbank X01HT need replace. I would like to buy a Touch pro or X1 or Touch HD. (Mainly is Touch Pro or X1. It is because it has a keyboard) My requirement is the mobile run smooth and sound louder. Any suggestion? Please advise. Thanks!

There are a lot of tests, comparisons and videos to exactly this decision all over the web. It's being discussed here too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=430501
I had to decide between these both too, because I wanted a WinMo device with a hardware keyboard. I then chose the Xperia for these reasons:
- better display with higher resolution
- longer battery lifetime
- 3,5" headphone jack
And I definitely don't regret the decision. The Xperia is simply the best pocketpcphonemusicplayer I ever had.
if you have a doubt... I strongly recommend you go get the Touch Pro....
only because I have a X1 and I want to be the only guy with the cool toy when everyone get their phone out in the bar
I was with the same doubt days ago.
I've chosen the X1 for various reasons, althrough the touch pro is cheaper:
- screen
- lighter
- better looking
- screen (again)
- curved slider (works nicely)
- slimer
- battery
- panels (through I don't really use them, they are like "beta" right now, for me, has more potential than TouchFlo. Also, I hate TouchFlo, don't like at all that interface)
Anyways, in the end, it's a matter of tastes, take a look at the two, compare keyboards (touch pro got a bunch of extra keys) and get the one you like more.
If you have the chance: try each of them out. Even a little typing test at a store gets you far -> if you're looking for a hw keyboard device testing each of them tells you alot. My preference is with the better keyboard of the TP and now that I have them both I tend to choose TP for main use and X1 for the weekends.
Many have experienced the X1 as the better performer sound-wise and I have also the feeling that X1 is smoother to use (drawback to me here is the limited use of each panel -> touchflo gives me more in one interface. The panels really taka a couple of secs to change between).
..btw: searching this forum gets you a ton of threads also such similar phones have been compared 'ad nauseam'..
As an owner of both the Xperia is much better for me...
xperia. better than that chubby feeling weird thing they call the touch pro
Lol, just stumbled on this thread, and boy are a lot of you full of yourselves with the X1.
Xperia surely gets me more attention than the iphone which is so common now.
also, people love it when i pull out the keyboard..they almost give out that 'wow' look.
x1 here 2
seeing as you are posting on the x1 section of the forum would be logical ;p
same reasons as the others it seems
some extra
i played with a iphone, pro, hd and x1 before deciding (phones of colleages)
the x1 is more responsive,
feels stronger,
touch screen seems more sensitive and lies a bit deeper in the phone
-->so less im lying on the table/in protector activating myself but more hard to remove dust at the edge of the screen (do get a decent protector as there is none included)
My wife has a pro (that i have to maintain (software ...)) i dont like the flow interface, looks good but isn't functional. that said i only use the Spb panel on the x1. (as main, do use the players ...)
i like that interface. panels could grow in the future.
...
Thank you all of your reply. I still worry about the GPS, ringtone and UI for X1. But I will go to try these phone on tonight. I hope I will not disappoint.

Saw the Touch Pro and I prefer the X1. Larger screen, feels less bulky, less cramped keyboard.
UI you can fix - just get the TF3D menu software or go for SPB Mobile Shell
Ringtone - what's the issue? It does mp3's just fine. Only annoyance is for alarm tones u need to convert to WAV 1st (no MIDI allowed), but hardly a major problem.
GPS works fine - I have Tomtom running on it, and it's as good as the not-so-cheapo Mio Digiwalker I picked up two years ago

What about the UI?
The panels are great. With the SE-Panel you have everything you need in one panel -calender, messaging, weather, shortcuts aso...
You don't need to change pages like with the touchflothing. TouchFlo is one of the reasons for me not to buy a HTC phone.
I now have the SE Desktop Panel with everything I need, additionally a fullscreen weather panel if I want to know more about forecast, windspeeds and whatelse, one panel for everything that's multimedia and one panel is for the navigation software TomTom which works great with with the internal GPS.
Hm, I don't know what your issue with the ringtones is, but I haven't got a problem with them except that the speaker isn't the best so the doublebassdrum and electric guitars don't blow you away
Haha...Another problem occurs ....X1 or HD??(Haha...don't hit me...)

So indeed the UK model is available in the Netherlands, just got mine.
My first impressions:
- The device actually feels smaller than I thought, feels only slightly heavier than my Diamond and much lighter than my Pro.
- The screen sensitivity for my finger is great, however it seems that I have to press harder with the stylus than on my Diamond.
- I cannot prevent touchflo 3D from installing, softresetting before customisation brings the device back in setup mode.
- The screen and the size of the buttons are great for finger usage.
- The device is faster than my Diamond and Pro, Touchflo 3D is really improved in terms of speed, however there is a lag when using the file explorer I didn't had on my previous devices.
- I really like the small led in the power button, indicating charching, bluetooth, etc. No more irritating charching lights from the action button when the device is next to my bed.
- All software I installed on my Diamond works on my HD (Spb products, Mobipocket, Pocketbreeze.)
- Did not test the GPS
- There is a soft bag for protection of the HD. The good is that it doesn't make the device much thicker. The bad is that it will not provide much protection (but it is included!!)
- The device comes with a 8GB microSD card (Sandisk.)
- The HD can be used in the HTC cradle, but without the special inlays, so a bit risky for the connector.
- No video-out (not in settings.)
- The full QWERTY on screen keyboard is better than on my Diamond, but still small and not as responsive to touch as I would want (I am used to my Iphone ;-))
Overall I think it is one of the best devices I have had for the last two years (a bit early to tell, but... first impression)
Can you tell us how vga apps work? Do they get stretched to fill the screen or are there black bars on top and bottom. I am talking about apps with no WVGA support.
Thanks!
Great post! I'm really looking forward to finding out how people get along with the HD. It's number one on my list of devices to replace my Touch.
please oh please try to play a divx movie thats perhaps the only thing that will make me sell my diamond i was used to see movies on my x7500 diamond sucks on plaaying video
yeah please try coreplayer/tcpmp with divx/xvid movies tell us the results!!
also if possible try some H264 (mp4 AVC) encoded videos

All apps I tried so far just scale to fill the screen.
It looks great!
The apps even look better than on my X7500!
After tweaking some performance settings and after installing 10 apps, this baby is fast!!!
Everything is almost instantanously, never seen this on a HTC device before (and I have had a lot ;-))
if you tell me it plays divx flawlessly ill put my diamond for sale right now hehehe
Any comments about audio quality through the 3.5mm plug. Also does the cradle have audio out (through usb of the device)?

The audio quality through the headset is great, its roughly the same as the Diamond, good bass, etc.
No sound through USB though, so no music through the cradle.
Looks great in the cradle though ;-)
OK, good news,
TomTom navigator 7 is working perfectly.
Better, no GPS lag (inside, because it is raining terribly here).
And look at Mobile Shell
This really is HTC's best device in years!!!
How does the sound compare with your iphone?
That cradle is huge, does it come with the package?
You have really kept up with all the PPC since the black and white days! Do you keep all of them or have you sold and upgraded throught he decade?

To be honest, the sound of both the Diamond and HD is much better than the sound of my Iphone, the sound is....more alive, more bass, etc.
I really like my Iphone and used it together with my Diamond for more than 3 months, and last month I mentioned that I was only using my Iphone. It is so much easier to use and the screen is really great.
But beside the UI, I think the HD beats the Iphone in a lot of aspects.
You have to buy the cradle seperately, it is a bit huge, yes.
I think I am an addict..... I kept some, not all, I am not that rich ;-))

I also received my touch hd today! a great device, the big screen is really lovely.
I can't seem to make tomtom 7 working though. Wich cab did you use? I get the error message that it is not compatible with my device.
Thanks
Johnkorver,
It is indeed a good news that there is no lag in GPS
HTC Touch Diamond + HTC X7500 + Iphone 16 GB White + HTC Touch HD
Your collection is awesome
It was to good to be true...
I found a bug; the rollout menu's (don't know how to call it) do not work on non standard programs.
I had this bug also on my Samsung i780 with a 320x320 pixel screen.
You can select the different items using the keyboard though.
Look at the screenshot to see what I mean; I selected the main window menu.
hi johnkorver , what about 3g reception and system speaker related to diamond ? thnx

Dear WinMo lovers, i need some advise
I am a UK vodafone customer and my contract is due for renewal. I am stuck picking BB storm or Xperia or getting Touch HD through a website which i have to wait for, i love xperia but it has some drawbacks for as follows
Is the screen too narrow? How is the text inputing using only the touch screen?
I will be gratefull for any advise and information.
It is pretty small using just the touchscreen. Not easy if you have bad eyes or shaky hands or if you are sitting in a train. I only use the keyboard now.
You can download some alternative software keyboards which are more touch screen user friendly than the standard built in one though.
The t9 input is fine for use one handed and teh other keyboards are usable. The built in microsoft one neccssitates the use of the stylus. For one handed use the only real option is the on screen T9 and for two handed you can use the hardware keyboard.
Thanks a lot everyone then it's a no go for me. the storm either. i guess i am stuck with my old curve 8310 then.
Hmm but u can download better on screen keyboards pretty easily and have it automatically switch to it everytime the phone starts up

But why would you want to use an on-screen keyboard when the sliding QWERTY one can get the job done way faster, whenever you want to write something?
I'm seriously thinking about buying an X1 and the on-screen keyboard's usability is the last thing to consider.
The Blackstone keyboards from the other thread here are a huge improvement over standard.
Just install the Touch HD keyboards - they're already available for the Xperia (I have them on my Xperia). Beautiful to use, much better than the awful standard one it comes with.
So basically if you're thinking about keyboards then the Xperia wins hands-down. It has a hardware QWERTY, but can run the Touch HD ones if you want it to.
Right I am looking for a new phone to upgrade from my Tytn 2 and I have got it down to these two. At the minute I use my phone for personal use and make good use of the PIM functions, calander, tasks etc.. I also have like to have a good multimedia base for photos and videos not so music because I have an Ipod. So my question really is which is the best, Samsung I like for its faster processor and larger screen and dimensions, however the x1 covers nearly everything apart from the faster processor and its more expensive. It also has a qwerty keyboard whereas the samsung doesn't is an on screen keyboard as bad as it sounds?
So my main question which is the best?
Also I just have a few more questions regarding softwareon the x1, does it have the on screen mouse pointer like the omina and does it come with photo, video and mp3 editing software as standard like the omina?
Sorry if this is wrong place its my first post
Thanks for everyones help in advance

I would go for the X1, it had 4x the screen resolution and a qwerty keyboard is a must for me. It is however more expensive. PDAdb.net does a good comparison of features, and try reading some reviews and hopefully it will help you decide.
Regarding the faster Processor of the Omnia. My father got an Omnia and I have to say that the X1 is in fact the faster device.
The Onscreen Keyboard of the Omnia is quite good, would say something comparable to the HTC Keyboard. If you want to send MMS then you have to install exttra software on the Omnia. The MMS Composer of the Omnia is just Bullsh...t. Some Settings on the Omnia are just weird, for example the Camerasettings. Last but not least, my father is thinking about to buy a X1 and give the Omnia to his wife. I would say good PPC are both and if you want a hardwarekeyboard and standdart plugs (like miniusb and 3,5mm Streoplug) then X1, if you don't care about then the Omnia is also a very good choice.
I have read quite a few reviews but however I carnt find one comapring the omnia and X1 directly. However I am leaning towards the X1 at the minute. Can anyone else should any light on the software on the X1?
Omnia has a pool screen compared with X1. The best advantage of Omnia is the price.
Hi,
I'm specifically wanting to chat to users who has upgraded from a Kaiser to the Leo?
I know its a narrow request but im still using my kaiser and really want to know the impact of the loss of the hardware buttons etc.
Thanks
Kaiser to Leo
I've owned a kaiser for almost two years now and have been following XDA since the first day I got it, and with any luck i'll be getting the leo next week thru TMO. and will post any information I can.
Yep. Forgot about the Kaiser as soon as I got the Leo. Put it on sale, took it out again after a week to wipe/pack it, and wondered how on earth I spent 2 years on that tiny and slow brick.
The keyboard is missed indeed, but that's minor next to the rest.
moving from the Kaiser to the Leo is one thing you shall not regret..
the capacitive multitouch screen is awesome for typing, the big size makes it even better...
the 1ghz processer makes everything totally fluid, from the interface to the camera..
im sure you remember the openGL problems in the kaiser (hardware 3d acceleration), well that will be a thing of the past with the LEO which has openGLES 2.0 support
but hey, thats just my opinion
Two months ago I had to sent my HD2 for screen repair, at that time I was forced to use my Kaiser for a week. I was so shocked, everything was so slow and I could not orientate on the small screen.
I upgraded from Kaiser to Leo (HD2). The HD2 is the single best windows mobile device ever bar none IMHO. Upgrade now you will not regret it.
Thanks for your responses, please keep them coming!
The other question i have is: Which apps did you lose when you upgraded?
My list of favourite apps, are in my signature, so if you happen to know how well they run on the Leo, i'd appreciate the feedback.
Theoretically, they should all work, given my Kaiser is running 6.1 but since screen resolution may be a limitation of any application, i'd sure like to find out before i commit.
Lastly, is there any videos that show how appointments are displayed on the Leo's Today screen? Can you still add today screen items?
And is there a standby button to lock the screen and turn the screen off?
Cheers!
had Kaiser before Leo
There will be some things you will miss, but it will depend on how you use the phone and for what purpose.
I miss being able to highlight text in the calendar header (without having to go to edit mode. It is more difficult to highlight text without a stylus, and drawing in notes etc with a finger tip is a lot harder.
If you have added a lot of features to your Kaiser from XDA Dev (or other places). It will take you some time to find the adons to do the same functions. It's a whole new learning curve.
The HD2 is a giant step foward, but it does have it's quirks and frustrations. Plan on spending hours on here finding solutions.
It does not come with a belt case! You don't need a screen protector. The speakers are fairly CR#P. The graphics are fantastic - movies , photos etc. It has the Cool factor. Google maps are great on this.
The camera can be annoying - It won't take a picture until it can focus (if you have a moving object, can drive you crazy while it takes 10 seconds to focus).
The kaiser was great (would buy them for my staff), the HD2 is better.
I had to buy mine at full price as they are not brought into NZ by vodafone.
Note for any one in NZ - Vodafone phone insure wanted to replace my Kaiser (TYTN II) with a nokia E71, E72 or E75. they will not replace with a phone they do not sell, nor an iphone or BBerry The phone they sold for $1800, they replaced with a phone with resale value of $635.

By default the HD2 doesn't use the Today screen anymore, it's replaced by the HTC Sense interface. Check the official videos for a glimpse. You can enhance it (see this), disable it and go back to the old Today screen (would remove most of the HD2's beauty though), or integrate a Today screen within it as a tab (see this).

I'm looking to make this very upgrade as Virgin UK have what seems like a very good offer on at the moment - £25/month and HD2 for free. I do just have a couple of questions that may make the decision to move from my Kaiser easier for me - they might be silly questions, but here goes anyway:
A problem I currently have with the Kaiser is that the lock screen is very dim and I really struggle to see it in sunlight - does this problem still exist with the Leo?
I am very used to using the stylus or the keyboard and find that I make only a few mistakes in text entry - is the Leo's screen keyboard as easy to use and is there a text entry screen similar to the block recogniser or letter recogniser in WM6?
GPS on the Kaiser is very slow to get a fix using TomTom 6 - is the Leo quicker and will TomTom 6 still run on the Leo?
My Kaiser will usually go for a couple of days without a charge - with the same sort of use what sort of life should I expect with a Leo?
Many thanks in anticipation of some useful replies.

1) You'll have no problem with the lock screen on the Leo. A gesture is all it takes to unlock it and you can choose your own screen for good measure.
2) There are various inputs available for the HD2. Using the touch screen after being used to a hardware keyboard takes some getting used to, but once you're there you won't want to go back! I'd highly recommend Swype v3.19.20.20.6343 as an alternative text input method.
3) The HD2 is very, very fast at finding and locking onto satellites. It also downloads a satellite database when needed which means locking on takes seconds. I can even usually get a fix indoors quite easily, something none of my many GPS devices can't do.
4) You're looking at charging every night, depending on use. Obviously battery life isn't a strong point of a phone this powerful, but there are various ways to maximise battery life when you need to. I've settled for buying a spare battery ($4 from Dealextreme) and a charger which charges the spare battery + the phone (£3 on ebay).
Don't forget Quidco (www.quidco.com) if you're signing up to Virgin, currently £30 cashback to be had! http://www.quidco.com/virgin-mobile/
Good luck!

Cheers!
I have two Kaisers.
I also have a Rhodium.
I now have an HD2.
HD2 screen is enough reason to upgrade for me.
Best HTC phone I have had.
i need an a WM phone with an hardware keyboard;
i've tried a touchpro2 for a couple of days: a so-so experience. now i need your opinions (or info) about some critical points of the X2 (i've just read almost the whole forum, so i know the software issues)
gps
the tocuhpro2 has a small gps lag, even after some patches
keyboard
the touchpro2 has a great keyboard, maybe the best 'ive ever tried
the optical pad
the touchpro2 lacks any hardware scrolling (the zoom bar sucks)
free ram
with a custom rom (senseless – i hate sense/manila) the tp2 has 120mb free RAM
i remember tha X1 suffers too low volume problem. what about X2?
thank you very much and sorry for my english
gps I don't use
keyboard on X2 is great
optical pad is very OK
rings volume is OK if you set it to max
there's less RAM than on X1 but actually no problem with that
X2, it's on HW side a way better phone than any HTC one.
But the power of htc it's not on the toy HW, but on the large customer base.
On the x2 side, instead, seem that the main job of the majority of users is complaining about the phone and blaming sonyericsson.
And scaring the potential new users, will keep them away.
So, few users= less probability that someone (or SE itself) discover a fix, or produce a good mod/utility/sw.
That said X2 (as tp2) is a bit underpowered to run wm 6.5 but is still usable using few attention and few tweaks.
The GPS is absolutely great (few seconds to get the fix in indoor)
The keyboard is almost perfect
The display is really really nice
And the optical pad is useful in most situations, although wm 6.5.3 is more finger friendly than previous versions.
The build construction is great and is light years from the one seen on X1.
The audio power requires a longer discussion, unlike the X1, is powerful on the multimedia side (you can easly hear the gps direction even in a noisy car), but the ringtones and notification are low.
I just discovered that is one of SE cab that lowers the ringtone's volume, so I'm just investigating in a way to get the sound back, w/o loosing some of SE features.

yeah i know. but generallly i use a naked WM; then i install my "businness" plugins (pocketbreeze, rcm and a launcher) on the today. with this configuration (and with a little boost from the overclock) the tp2 almost flies.
i've read (in the change language thread) that it's possibile a barebone X2 (no panels and no SE customization). is this true? and how does it work?
at last: is the SDfix necessary even after the last fw upgrade?
thanks

With the almost vanilla WM you can obtain blocking most of the oem cab installation, the phone is fast enough and pleasant to use, i never used RCM, but the stock contact management in the x2 is nice, other than the bit odd dialer (no quicksearch on the default tab).

I'm not sure: i got a (minor) fs corruption, with the original SW (which was the worst WM implementation ever seen) after 5 minutes of usage, then I upgraded to MR2 and edited the registry, now the problem is gone, but I can't say if the "culprit" is MR2 or the registry fix.
I'm actually using the X2, without panel manager, slideview and other SE's ****s, and the phone works fine with about 110-120 mb of free ram.
Keyboard is great, trackpad is great, GPS works fine, camera is not what it was supossed to be, but it's still is better than TP's one. SD cad fix is still necessary, i've lossed data even with the last firmware, but with the fix works fine.
The phone speed is not great, but is enough, and if you want you can overclock it, but it's not necessary.
So if you don't like manilla, and you don't mind the software issues that are still present, i'll go for the X2.

I don't think that SE softwares are ****s, they are simply too heavy for the X2 processor and memory. pixecity and growing panel ares simply useless, but the panel switching and slideview are nice, too heavy, a bit buggy but nice.

Your English is better than mine, and your description of the camera is perfect.
I confirm almost everything above.
Actually I use TileView Panel and it's very well working.
As well as SlideView.
As for camera, X2 takes great pictures.
Actually is one of the best in class IMO.
Video is edgy on start but it's indeed ok, especially with bigger resolution you can watch this full screen on laptops.
It doesn't match some HD cameras on Symbian or Android but it's ok.
The main concern is stability, but it mainly means X2 needs reboot every 3, 4 days.
Even with this, I still hardly imagine any substitute for X2.
And SE graphic elements suit me.
P.S. SdCardFix is a must.
ouch, i've just read that X2 seems to have problem running iGo8. can you confirm?

I'm running igo8 (double installation Navtec/ Teleatlas) and it's working fine but not out of the box, you need the correct data.zip.
Navigon (final) is also working fine.
well, just got mine...
damn sexy but a little small.
WM6.5.3 with R3AA035; so the latest one.

It's matter of personal preferences, but I find the size of X2... ...well, the right size.

Yes, i know. But i'm coming from tp2...
In the meanwhile i've removed almost all the programs listed as installed, i've applied sdfix and installed some of my favourite sw, except igo8 and operamini.
The X2 runs smooth, as smooth as tp2 with no manila/sense. In the near future i will try the stop-customization trick and the overclock.
The keyboard is good: better than X1's one but ages from tp2's.
The pad seems to me as a killer feature; finally a device "touch-non-touch".
Hope aebuttons (another favourite of mine) will let me set all the other buttons.
thanks

I have a milestone also, a wider screen is helpful sometimes, but a larger phone is also a disadvantage...

The hard input devices are indeed not common in the age of iphone dumbness.
Seem that no one cares anymore on how a jog dial (like the one present on the P series) or a joystick (like te one present on the k800 or the imate 8502) can be handy.
Btw the optical trackpad is definitely better than nothing.
Hope aebuttons (another favourite of mine) will let me set all the other buttons.

Yes I'm using it, it works perfectly on the clean phone, it works mostly when used with the stock SE SW.
I mapped the slideview button as start menu button with short press, and as task manager with long press.
I also mapped the volume buttons as a fake jog dial, so I can read ebooks happily as on my beloved p800.

Not tried yet, I don't think that aebutton can do that but some pones like the i780 had this option via a little oem control, maybe the X1, also but I'm not sure.

I just discovered that is one of SE cab that lowers the ringtone's volume, so I'm just investigating in a way to get the sound back, w/o loosing some of SE features.

try to modify "HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring\InitVol" from "3" to "4" or"5".
it can make the ring vol larger on my X2.
just try it!

I've done a clean install (softreset just after screen calibration), but now on every boot the system ask to me to resume the installation. i can say "no" but it's a little annoyance.
