Removing Junk File??

How can i remove the junk files installed in my /windows directory? i saw many but i dont know if it is important. is there any programs that deletes any unusefull files or junk files? Thanks
your windows dir is filled with the files that windows contain
most are located in rom and can never be deleted
Some files like when i install a software and uninstall it some files will not be deleted. (ie. Help files, images, .txt etc)
got some exampes ?
i know that sometimes shortcuts are not removed from programs
and it's temp dir is also likely to get some temp files once in awhile
but i havent had issues with alot of space being lost to files not being removed
suppose you could always make a backup using activesync and then try
to remove stuff and softreset if it cause issues with programs or windows stuff then do a hardreset and restore your backup
maybe i was wrong. maybe the files that i saw is important and not a junk files. Thank You anyway.
There are utility programs like SpaceMaker and MemMaid which will do housekeeping for you. They delete the "junk" files from your device.

Install to storage card\prorgam files ???

hi there,
is it possible to install programs via async to a specific folder on the storage card?
e.g. the software spb time can only be installed to either the standard folder (program files in main memory) or to spb time to the storage card.
i'd like to have all programs on the storage card in ONE folder.
any chance to do that?
thanks
Hi,
You have to change a bit Registry of your device. You can easily do it with Resco Explorer Registry Add-In or other editor.
In HKLM\SFTWARE\Apps\Microsoft Application Installer find a Key fAskDest and change it's value from 0 to 1.
Also uncheck on your Desktop Pc option Install programs into the default installation folder.
Now, when programs installs, it will ask (at screen of your Magician) where do you want it to install, including selection of existing folders and destinations.
Best regards,
Evgen

Deleting cab files in windows folder???

After installing a program f.ex. Pocket Informant - there is a 1 MB cab file in the windows folder. Can that be deleted - and then saving the storage space?

yes. you might want to leave a copy on your computer for ease of reinstallation.

I don't mean on my PC..... but on my PPC. When I install a progtram on my PPC - is the cap file in the windows folder needed?
The reason is, that I discovered, that after installing - and then deinstalling some programs - the cap file where still in the windows folder of the PPC.
My question is therefore: is the cap file used for the running program? And if so, I guess the deinstalling have been poor. Probably common known - I just have no idea...
You can delete the cab file. You can also move it to a storage card in the event that you need to reinstall the program later. But you do not have to keep it on your device.

Would this work?

Hi all,
im looking at the tg01 as a computer. with xp i can overwrite the whole windows folder with another install, and Albeit a few important folders, the whole lot is changed.
would this work on windows mobile? could we just overwrite the windows folder, registry and other folders with a 6.5.x install?
im not sure how the certificates would affect this.
it may be ugly but if it works then it would be a temprary fix for updating. tweaks can be performed as first run bats/exes to remove junk from defunct folders, registry would be merged with previous, cleaning up invalid entires and adding the tweaks for memory.
would this work or are the os's to different? i have heard of a protection removal thing for total commander, this could be used to faciltate an install, run it so it reboots the device into the program before windows is fully active and overwrites the folders that way.
im determined to try this tonight once i find a rom, and learned how to extract the windows folder and registry from the image
any help appreciated
i think the problem would be the same as if ud wanna do this on a desktop
the most important files are running so cant be changed on the run ...
i get that but by having a script run before any of the important stuff loads, it may get around the protection settings

Question How to patch explorer.exe in Windows 7 X64 for don't create $Recycle.bin and System Volume Information folders?

Hello!
More portable USB drive and pendrive "not removable" type, always created $Recycle.bin folder.
How to fully disable $Recycle.bin folder create?
Need: plugged drive do not modify filesystem with $Recycle.bin or System Volume Information
Not need any reply this text: "hide hidden folders". Need real solution.
I have old patch to "Open file" window size set to any size, and patched explorer.exe (not registry mod, real file patch). Need real patch to disable folder creating.
Recycling disabled: all drive zero bytes and disabled.
All registry tips not working:
HKCU/Soft/MS/Win/Curr/Explorer/BitBucket/NukeOnDelete=1
Gpedit only disable "move to recycle bin", not disable folder creating. Not working.
Now created in all drive $Recycle.bin FILE with zero byte, now folder not created... all Windows starting (or delete files) say: Corrupted Recycle bin, recreate? ...popup message for all drive (with this fake file).
SysVolInfo:
Disabled search, disabled thumbnails create.
Available any solution, patch, customizes, manager, etc. for this problem?
Thanks!

Enable Recycle Bin for Removable Drives in Windows 11 Tutorial
The Recycle Bin provides a safety net when deleting files or folders. When you delete any of these items from a hard disk, Windows places it in the Recycle Bin and the Recycle Bin icon changes from empty to full. If you have multiple hard drives, partitions, or an external hard drive connected...

Not ok. I have... many USB pendrive builded HDD type, not "removable" type. And all removable external HDD recreated this folders.
Hi, I also tried all those registry mods and policies but nothing works on my Win7-x64. I found that $Recycle.bin folders on all volumes are created everytime explorer.exe process is started. But a quick look doesn't show that explorer.exe would contains $Recycle.bin string, so maybe it's obfuscated some way or it's in some DLL that explorer.exe calls. I wonder nobody cracked this crap yet...
