Hi Guys,
I replied to this quote, then realised that I'd never seen the iROCK! mentioned generally here:-
I have an early version which works great either battery or car adaptor (tho never in this country obviously!!! )

I'm trying to use my XDA2 as a MP3 player and want to take an audio feed from the XDA2 and put it into my hifi. The only way I can think of is to use the internal serial port and convert it to twin phono's but not sure if this will work. Any bright lights out there know the answer?

You could also try the amazing iROCK! which you plug into you earphone socket & it transmits on one of 4 FM frequencies to your nearest radio.
(it's illegal in the UK unfortunately, but available from USA etc.)
Don't know where you are located. If ya get caught over here, I never suggested this Guv!

Interesting, but unfortunately "the product is not approved to be shipped outside us and canada".

Got mine from a visiting American, only use it 'on the move' Not suggesting anyone else do the same, of course.
you can get these on ebay, I bought 2, shipped from hong kong
Quick question - They all seem to have 3.5mm jacks. Is there a version with 2.5mm jack?
you can get converters from 2.5 to 3.5 many many places

Has anybody tried the car baby? its small rechargeable unit that clips over the speaker and transmits on fm band, all audio will then come from speakers in car or in house on the radio. I found it to work well as long as you kept the volume low on the pda as too much volume causes distortion. It is very cheap and very effective as a wireless audio transmitter and doubles up as a hands free for the phone also.

Thanks for the input. I am not sure which generic 2.5 to 3.5 works and which does not. Obviously the 2.5 jack in the XDA has the extra contacts for phone off/on button. Does this cause any issues? I think I have seen a reference where the poster was mentioning hearing both left & right channels mixed on his right earphone when audio is piped into a good quality headphone using a 2.5 to 3.5 converter.
i doubt it but not 100% sure
i got the original QTEK converter myself
I have a MR handsfree Pro in my car, and its been pretty good. Anyway - I doubt they will make a connector for the HTC Wizard - would love to be proved wrong of course - so was wondering if anyone knows if you can make a connector?
Thanks
Scott
I don't have a Wizard yet so this is only going by the photos but I think the older Mtotorola/Panasonic adaptor would work. The type that used to fit the Moto V66 and Panasonic GD87 and similar phones.
The type that are just a 2.5mm jack, I think this is what the Wizard has and should work no probs.
Seems the connection is a mini USb. Anyone know if any of the Mr Handfree Pro connectors are also mini USB?

bear with me on this one while I try to explain...
I have an o2 XDA Exec that has tomtom 6 on it
I want to use the phone/sat nav, while on my bike
I have got a Starcom Advance - http://www.starcom1.com/ that is all working on the bike
Now, I do not want to use bluetooth if I can avoid it....
The starcom has a seperate connector for the phone and for satnav. (Both 3.5mm jacks)
I think that if I can find a 3.5 mm double male lead then I am hoping I can just plug it into the xda and the starcom - but what lead do I need? (Needs to allow the microphone to work btw)
I am hoping that some kind person knows what lead is needed so I can source one from maplins etc.... or that it just will not work!
I have the same problem! I use the Intraride system, but it's exactly the same set-up as the StarCom (used to have one) The solution I found was something like the Ericsson bluetooth handsfrees. They come with a detachable earpiece, so you can connect the units to the intercom using the phonelead that should have been supplied in the intercoms box.
First option is the HBH-20, there is one on ebay now for next to nothing.
HBH-20 Ebay Clicky
I then tried the HBH-200, which is similar, but includes a CallerID function. Nothing on ebay, but here is a link so you can see what I mean:
Clicky
Both devices are the size of a box of matches, so no troubles there! What I did find is that both units can be querky with the bluetooth connection, (down to the phone not the handsfree and this was on the OE o2 ROM, and one of the cooked WM6 versions) and also the volume was a bit quiet. Solution I've gone with now, is to swap my SIM into a normal phone (Nokia 6310i and universal adapter) and just plug that in. I also had good results with the Motorola V50 which has a 2.5mm connection that will just plug straight in.
Hope you find something that works for you! Although if anyone knows of an adapter to allow normal 2.5mm handsfrees to be connected to the 3.5mm socket on the universal...I'd love to know too! I have already looked at the adapters from Expansys, but these only allow PC type headsets to be connected (ie those with a separate 3.5mm headset and earphone lead)

not sure what is wrong...but after upgrading to the new gps rom i don't have any sound output when using headphones or and aux cable in the car. any ideas what could be wrong? perhaps there are some audio drivers or something missing in this new rom?
any ideas? thanks.
bump.
im having the exact same issue here.
works with the headset that was included with the phone but my aftermarket mini-usb to headphone jack adaptor doesnt work now
First post (been lurking awhile) - have the same issue, with a twist. Running the newly released 3.16 and the OEM HTC headset works with calls/WMPlayer/system sounds. But, using earbuds connected via a mini-usb to 3.5mm jack converter, I can listen to voicemail (so SOMETHING is working) but not music/system sounds (like voice prompts from GPS software). Anyone have a fix? I need to be able to use my 3.5mm converter while on my motorcycle!
Are you using the stock ROM and customizations? Did you copy the edited audiopara.csv? I remember seeing somewhere that the old audiopara file may not be compatible with 3.16.
Prior to installing 3.16, I was using the stock 2.09 as received from the factory - no tweaks or mods - and the mini-usb to 3.5mm converter worked then, but doesn't work fully after the 3.16 install (stock 3.16 with customizations).
i still haven't been able to fix this. i am using dcd's 2.0 beta rom and i have seen people saying that the audiopara file needs to be replaced. i haven't figured out how to do this though i get an error that its in use and cannot be replaced. if anyone can help me out and post the correct file to replace and tell me how i'd appreciate it. still no audio via headphones.
I just tried this on my phone and it works fine. Maybe it is the software setup that I have that lets it work?
Running SRS WOW HD with CorePlayer 1.1.3. Also tried TCPMP.
I also have the same problem with wmp and unfortunately i can't offer any help as to what to do with this audiopara file.

you put the audiopara file in \windows afaik. i have done this. i am just waiting till i go to work (where my adapter is) to test. if it fixes it i will post back...
edit; didnt work for me
Replacing the audiopara file didn't fix anything for me, either.
yep, replacing the audiapara file didn't fix anything for me.
please keep in mind i am only referring to using an adaptor and then using standard headphones or an aux line out. this is a pretty big problem for me, if anyone finds a fix please let me know.
bump.
searched registry for "audio" founf an entry named audio-out and it has a subfolder named pin
sounds right but i dunno
also..checking voicemail works for me as well but the volume is way too low to hear

are you talking about dcd's custom 2.0 rom?
My problem is with the stock 3.16 ROM, installed with customizations.

I had a problem about 2 days into the new stock rom... audio manager wouldnt play, would only scroll through song files non-stop, windows media player wouldnt load, then my ringer stopped working.
I hard reset and re-loaded my programs 1-by-1 to make sure no probs with audio. Been working fine for 2 days now.
This is a bit of reading, but I'm trying to be as complete with the info as possible. I am running the leaked 3.16 rom with customizations on my Sprint 6800, but no other apps installed (yet) and no tweaks or hacks. I previously ran the 2.09 stock rom with customizations, and all audio output worked perfectly.
After messing with things for awhile, I can hear audio as follows:
A. Calls/Voicemail/WMPlayer/system sounds using the following:
1. OEM headset
2. Jabra wired headset when using the HTC usb to usb/2.5mm adapter
B. Call audio and Voicemail using a non-OEM headset and an aftermarket usb to usb+3.5mm adapter, but no WMPlayer or system sounds
I've done numerous soft resets and 3 hard resets to try to get audio output working as I had with the 2.09 rom. I'm no expert at these things, so I'll defer to those who mess with them more than I, but it appears to me that the leaked rom reconfigured the usb port output so that certain audio is no longer directed to a pin or pins that used to be live in prior rom versions. If this is not the case, why do I hear call and voicemail audio, but no music or system sounds, while using a non-HTC adapter? Please feel free to poke holes in my guess.
This may be what watson540 was getting at.
yes, i am using dcd's 2.0 rom...but that doesn't seem to matter as many on sprint not using a custom rom but any rom based off the leaked gps rom are having audio problems.
i get no audio using an adaptor to plug in a standard headphone jack, or a line out. i'm not talking about bluetooth headphones, but just a standard headphone with an adaptor. additionally, these are not the stock headphones that come with the mogul. anything plugged in with the adaptor no longer works on my sprint mogul and its extremely frustrating.
i have tried hard resetting, reloading the rom, and loading a differnt audiopara file...nothing works that i've tried.
The same issue.
Works OK with stock headphones, but not with this adapter:
http://www.semsons.com/2miusband3st.html
I'm still able to hear voice (phonecall, voicemail etc.) using adapter, but no sound from WMP, TCPMP etc.
Tested with modified audiopara.csv and with the original from the ROM.
Adapter worked OK with 2.17 ROM, but no luck with the new one.

I know if I have any more probs I am going to re-lock and downgrade to 2.17 until the official, but so far so good
knives, so you aren't able to use ActiveSync or charge the phone using the adapter?
I want to buy this Earphones from FocalPrice, but the photo of the connector isn't very clear, so I was wondering if this one would work for Raphael. Can anyone tell me?

According to the sites above, they both use the "HTC ExtUSB™ (11-pin mini-USB 2.0 and audio jack in one)" so I'm guessing they're both the same? I don't own a G1 so I can't say with 100% certainty.
