After reading all posts: let's try to make a sum - Touch HD General

At Christmas I will receive my HTC Touch HD and this is why I have started reading all the Blackstone thread since a month.
That is what I understand so far(correct me if I am wrong):
-Hardware: big screen,a bit less contrast than Diamond, but impressive resolution and really (probably for the first time) user-friendly device
-Battery: better than Diamond's one..up to 2 days of normal use
-Video performance: still a lot of work, but coreplayer works fine with low size movies or videos. At the moment there is no access to the internal GPU and only WMP can play smooth .mp4...big hopes for the future. People disappointed due to high hardware capability not used
-Audio performance: quality comparable to Ipod/Iphone, but TF3d interface has still some bugs to be fixed..however, a lot of 3rd software to choose the software we like most ( S2P for example)
-Camera performance: still a bit confused, it seems to be a "standard" 5mp compared to the level of other devices (nokia or sony-ericsson)...however there is no thread that show exactly the power of this camera with lot of pictures in different environments
-Navigation GPS: few bugs to be fixed, but we can use igo8, Navigon 7 and Tomtom 7 in high resolution
-Customization: like the other wm..you can do really what you want (change today, apply tons of software, etc etc)..there are no limits so far, except the hardware's ones.
-Games: let's say that the TOUCH HD is more a "business device" with media specifics...but still far from Iphone games. Let's hope in the future like for the video performance.
-Development: HSPL not yet released (after we would have a huge choice of ROMs!!!..)...hopefully a christmas gift

That astonishes me. I never get more than about a day with only sending SMS and nothing else. Whoever comes up to two days please tell me (and perhaps others) how to achieve that. I even stopped active sync and used the trick (empty active sync server) to not let it start automatically. Is there anything (perhaps obvious for others) I missed?

I think you just about summed it up.
It is a really nice device with lots more potential.
I'm sure you won't be disappointed this christmas!!

How do you stop the activesync?

well, im looking for a better solution on the high quality video playback capability lol

something wrong

there's probably something wrong with your device cause i always get over a day and a half at least i mean have a look this has been covered several times snd most members appear to agree that the battery has improved especially in comparison to the kaiser and diamond both very loved handsets

I must confirm, marvi0 is right. The battery should last for over a day to two days when the device is sporadicaly used.
What I see as potentional problems could be these:
1) bad radio version (i remember these issues on HTC Hima with old ROMs, they could drain battery twice fast than usual).
2) some creepy app, that takes too much CPU use. Remember that the more the CPU is used, the more batt is spend. The power-off works that way: it not only turns off screen, it also sends windows to some sort of standby mode, when most of the apps are suspended. But - if some app could not get to this state, it runs on full throttle on the background. I remember such issue with playing with WM5 screensaver and MortScripts. Check your taskbar, what is running there.

My battery now lasts up to 5 x days max if I use Tweak HD suggested settings throughout! This is an excellent App. As per the camera I wish this could be fixed / replaced with something like I originally used on my Trinity since the adaptive zoom/focus causes rapid movement to alwas go blurred, whilst static images or landscapes are fine.

Battery Last 1 n half day
After lots of phone calls, average sms and few songs...Battery Last 1 n half day...
Which is fine for me

max i got from the battery was 3 days only doing a couple of calls and some sms, i don't use any massive tf3d personalization only changed the background image, installed s2u2, crystal clock and optimized the phone cache, but usualy it's around 1 and half, 2 days

My battery went from 100% to 48% in the space of about 8 hours on Sunday as I was doing lots of stuff on it, trying to get apps working, trying things out, installing, uninstalling etc.
I then had the phone on standby all night (was 48% before bed) and it has been on standby most of today with 1 phone call and a bit of video and calculator, and still on 48%

Okay, I now got my battery life up to about two days with some telephony and SMS and bluetooth always turned on by switching of the light sensor and using a fixed setting of two bars for the light when using battery. This is enough (at least for me) to see everything well on the device in every lighting condition.

I'm surprised with your short battery life. I used it almost non-stop and still had 50% left a day later. I find the battery life of HD amazingly good. However, I did took the pain to charge it properly before starting to use it. Although the manual said we need only 3 hours to charge it, I kept unplugging the power when the charge indicator turned green, then plug it in again. I kept repeating this process for about 2 hours after it first turned green. This might have something to do with the long battery life I'm getting, perhaps.

Sprint Touch Information

I am considering trading my Sprint Mogul, for the touch (if it is possible) but am wondering if it is a good idea. The main reason for my trade is that I have recently had a chance to use the touch and like the look, and also my battery on my mogul has recently stopped lasting even half a day, with no usage.
So I just want to know how good is the battery life on the touch and information about its problems and its good features.
Also does anyone know if it is possible to trade my mogul for a sprint touch? I have the total equipment protection plan if that makes any difference.

It will last about a full day, but of course always depends on usage. I use mine to no end! I have FlexMail running all the time, it's my music/video player, my day's outlook, GPS, and of course the usual phone features. If anything, have a car charger handy, as well as a charger at work and home just in case.
Hmm, so its about a full day with heavy usage, while for me, I barley use my phone throughout the day, besides making a few calls and texts, so it should last about 1 1/2 to 2 days. Can anyone else comment about the battery life.

with HEAVY usage i can burn the battery down in about 4-6 hours but that's using bluetooth internet sharing or gps or non stop browsing. But yes it's safe to say with typical heavy usage (taking breaks from the Touch every now and then to check out the real world) it should last a full day. The times when I barely use it, only a couple short calls, a coule of texts, and email checking set for every 5 minutes, it'll last about 2 days. I got cradles with spare battery slots for home and the office and a car charger so battery life is not an issue for me. I also have my backlight set on lowest, but I remapped the camera button to toggle it to full for use in direct sunlight.
One thing to watch out for is signal strength. I had a mogul at first and hated the battery life, until I realized that it was cause I had almost zero service in my room so the mogul was constantly searching and that would drain the battery overnight. I got a cell service repeater for a couple hundred bucks and it boosted the signal in my room a few bars then i stopped having that issue, but i still got rid of my mogul cause i never use the keyboard: i'm a block recognizer user. Plus the Touch's screen is more suited for finger usage since it's completely flush so you can easily touch things in the corners and sides without a stylus. But I'm sure my touch would fair just as badly if i turned off my cell booster, cause there's a dead zone at my office in one of the warehouses and if i stay there too long i can pretty much watch my battery melt before my eyes.
Good luck, you'll definitely love the increased ram.
Thanks for the info, but I don't believe that it is the low signal that has been causing my battery to drain so fast, because up until about this month, my battery would last two days easy, it would be at 70% at the end of the first day, and then 30% at the end of the next day. But now it barley lasts 11 hours even though I havn't moved from my house or changed my habits greatly.
Also i don't have my phone set to check emails automatically or anything, so if i get a touch the battery should last at least two days, making about 2 5 minute calls, and maybe 2 texts, other than that no usage. Because that is what i do with my mogul right now, and it only lasts 11 hours, although before it was 2 days.
Since the battery life seems to be ok, can anyone comment on general usability of the touch? Things like how is it not having keyboard/wi fi, and how many soft resets generally, the speed of the device, and memory usage (although i don't think its a problem with the touch).
Thanks for the help.

Well your battery could've been worn out due to overcharging or manufacturing defect. Either way get a touch I think it's a better phone anyways as long as you can live without physical keys.
yea i edited the post, asking about that and things like ram, using on screen keyboard, speed, gps, and soft resets. What do you think about those kind of things, I have been using spb full screen keyboard on my mogul to see if i don't mind having no physical keyboard, and while i prefer having the keys, the on screen one is usable. But as for soft resets and speed, that kind of stuff is what i can't test right now, so what do u guys think about using it.

This is a non issue for me, I use block recognizer. I've been palm/windows mobile user for probably about 10 years so for me Block Recognizer (Graffiti) is second nature. Accuracy is about 99% assuming I have a good fullsize pen stylus, 95% with the built in stylus, 90% with my finger nail, and 70% with if my nail is cut too short. I can probably average 15-45 wpm depending on what i'm using to write and how much i focus. It's pretty easy to pick up block recognizer or letter recognizer and once you do you'll find it's the fastest most accurate way for a device with this screen size. The only downside I've found is that Microsoft doesn't care about it so it hasn't been upgraded in ages so there's no way to customize the strokes or enter special commands like Cut/Copy/Paste.

I have Sprint Sero so wifi is useless to me. I just use my unlimited data which is pretty fast. It also saves me a bundle since I can just connect to any laptop over bluetooth or usb and use internet sharing. i really impressed my boss the other day when he was in a jam and needed to access the net on his Macbook Air but there was no wifi around. I just pulled out my Touch set up ICS over Bluetooth and connected his mac to it, then put my touch back in my pocket and handed him his MBA and said here you can surf, I set it up to use my phone's internet over bluetooth. He just stared at me for a minute and was like whoa can my iPhone do that. Of course I just laughed and said I guess you're iphone's not that great after all.

Soft resets...due to memory leaks or programs acting up? Almost never. I only really soft reset after I install new programs and I use WisBar so programs are really closed when I hit Close/OK instead of just being minimized. I do a full hard reset probably once every 3-6 months and manually reinstall all my programs to make sure I have the latest versions of everything and just to keep my device clean. Other than that it's pretty stable.

Only other issue to look out for is the storage card corruption issue. When I first got the phone my card used to get corrupted a lot and i'd lose all the data on there. Never figured out exactly why but I think it was due to losing power while the card was being accessed. This could be caused by soft resetting while stuff is being accessed or be card getting momentarily ejected due to it's placement. I used to have most of my programs installed to the card and I would soft reset often. Now just about everything is on main memory and if I have to soft reset I hold the power button down to Power Off then Power back on manually once it's done. Since I started doing that I haven't had a single corruption issue.
Wow, that was a very informative post thanks a ton, ill keep the storage card corruption issue in mind, and install everything on to the main memory, seems like the touch is a pretty stable phone because of its large ram, battery life is good, and using the on screen keyboard seems to be tolerable. only things ill miss is wmwifirouter, and the flash on the camera.

Oh yah the Camera is quite poor if the lighting isn't ideal luckily i rarely use it.
Lack of wifirouter is a bummer but if you're crafty you can connect the phone to a computer with wifi either through cable and bluetooth then set up an ad-hoc network for internet sharing between any number of computers. I prefer using the cable for all that cause bluetooth and constant data usage burns the battery.
Trust me, you will not regret getting the Touch. I've gone through quite a few phones, and this is the best! As mentioned above, the amount of memory is amazing! I have easily installed 25+ apps all on the main memory, which leaves my 8GB SD open for all music, movies, and files. Along with the storage memory, you have a bunch of RAM, with 6-7 heavy apps open, I still have at least 40MB open, which still tops majority of the phones with startup memory.
As for no wifi, if you have an unlimited data connection, then your not losing anything, and I think carriers have this cheaper because of this. I use Spb Full Screen Keyboard, and might get Resco Keyboard, since it's in a package, which is better then having to slide out the keyboard and messing with the screen rotation.
The flush screen definitely does help with the accessibility of the screen. It has bluetooth v2.0.
I think the only thing I don't like is there is no flash.
hmm so it is possible to use bluetooth for internet, is there a tutorial on how to do this with the touch, so that when I get mine, i can do it, still not as good as wifirouter, but it will work with some devices.

Yes you can connect your phone to your computer over bluetooth (or USB) and then surf on your computer using your phones data plan. And if you really want you can create an ad-hoc wireless network to share internet to muliple computers over wifi.
Connecting your phone to your computer is easy. Just open up Internet Connection Sharing, then choose USB or Bluetooth, then press Connect. You if you get an error about registration or passwords use google to solve it. If using USB plug into your computer and the first time it'll log up the necessary drivers, if you've already installed Windows Mobile Device Center or the latest version of ActiveSync it'll have the necessary drivers. If using Bluetooth search for a new bluetooth device on your desktop, select your phone follow the prompts to connect. It should add it as a Bluetooth PAN device.
To setup the ad hoc wireless network varies greatly depending on OS, use google to find a good guide.

Battery improvment time on HTC HD2

People with the Htc Hd2 have probably noticed that the battery life is horrific.
As i only really need one day or use out of the phone i found a way that gave me close to 50 hourse with normal usage wich i think is very impressive for a 4,3" screen and a 1gzh Qual snapD proscessor.
what to do:
- Go to settings and home and deactivate HTC sense and ativate Windows Standars.
- Also turn the background lighting to constanly 30% and not on auto (you can go as low as you find appealing, but 30% was perfect for me)
this does mean you have to give up the Htc sense which might not be appealing for some people, but for me it was just fine.
(PS) i had the well known SMS problems aswell, but since i deactivated the HTC sense all my messages have been sendt on time and i have recived all my phone calls, i have tested this for a week now so its all confirmed!
you could get more then 50 hours because my "normal use" contains a lot of phone calling wich drains a lot of battery and even after 50 hours i still had 30% left on the battery. each time!

HTC Sense checks for location, shows weather animations, clock animations. That all uses battery.

The settings shortcut will not work in the start menu when Mobileshell is installed, just go through mobileshell's menus to get to the settings. Have you installed the disable HTC messaging cab for when you have sense disabled? This will allow you to use/go to messaging (if you disable HTC messaging you will have to install the Arcsoft MMS client in order to send/receive MMS)
I also disabled senses, because my SMS messages were not arriving?! Very strange..
But with senses off everything goes well.. I hope there will be a fix for sense soon, because it truly is a great piece of software!
(i miss the MP3 player, photo slider, facebook updates on my contact and the direct link to opera )
Disabling sense?
What are the exact steps to disable HTC sense? I goto the today settings but I cannot see any option to disable sense, all I see is two tabs one for changing the background when the device is locked and the other for adding/removing tabs! Please help!!!
Btw if I install SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 then is Sense automatically disabled? I suppose it will be since SPB replaces it but with Windows one can never be sure!

I haven't done it but I can see how it could be done.
When you get to the Today screen you mentioned, there are two tabs at the bottom left. The first says Appearance and the second says Items. Go to Items which is where you'll see all the today settings listed. It also says that checked items appear on the Today screen. The only one checked in that list is HTC Sense. Presumably, that's where you untick it.
*If anyone knows this to be wrong, please correct me. I wouldn't want to be giving out incorrect information.*
Quick one to all who have disabled sense - is HTC Keyboard still working after?
I am also considering turning of sense.
What should I setup to have windows phone 6.5 home screen? (Zune like)
Thx
Just as a matter of interest, why don't you all just try it and see if this works or that works?
If it's not to your liking then re enable sense!
I am dissatisfied with the hd2 battery, don't know what to do, mine only lasts for 1.5 day for normal usage. I think htc should work more on developing the battery technology, something like SAMSUNG phones.
About the tips and ways to have more battery life, I don't know what is the point here:you deactivate all features you have in a bloody expensive phone, and make it like a Nokia 1100 to have more battery? u can simply buy a Nokia 1100 and save ur money while you enjoy 4-5 days battery life!
What I am saying is that if we have to deactivate htc sense, weather animation, location services and make the screen less bright to use the phone for 3 days, then why should I buy a phone which has these capabilities?!
I want a long time battery, while I wanna enjoy my device. I am waiting for a better battery to be offered from htc, something like 9-cell battery for laptops.
1.5 days is fantastic for a smartphone which provides the functionalities of a laptop
id be happy if mine would last the day instead of charging it when i get home at 5pm

Very nicely said with Nokia 1100 example... nothing to add here buddy!!!
I disabled data connection overnight (BsB Tweaks, then shut off data connection) and I only lost 5% battery for 6-7 hours. Turned it on in the morning and barely used the phone and I've lost over 50% in about 11 hours. Only used about 10 minutes of talk time, no web checking. I have outlook and hotmail configured. MS Push was disabled. I have the Docs Indexer disabled installed.
To my sudo-quick-test it seems 3g is killing the phone.
to save battery life i off all the auto updates. i update 'em manually, with this and my ROM/Radio i can last 2 days average and 3 days max
I also thought battery life was a disaster then read in some post that bluetooth was draining batt, tried to turn it of and voila. before it was beetween 0-10% when i was home by 5 and now it is 35-50%.
I don´t like that i "can´t" use the things that is availabale on phone because that´s why i bought it. I had it for about four months now and it feels like nothings ever gonna happen that´s solves the problems, this, the sms prob and that it freezes is my things that can driving me insain, but somehow i just love it anyway
i thing people have to understand that battery technology has not really been developed or improved recently.. so you're using a high tech device with a old/low tech battery, so unless they make the battery big/fat, ur probably only gonna get a day or so of battery life. good example is hd2's standard n extended battery. the extended battery is somethin like 2000+ mAh, but its fat. spoiling the sleek look of the hd2. and bout samsung, its probably cause their screens are bit smaller n the batteries are around 1500mAh compared to hd2's 1230mAh? One thing i dont understand though is why the hd2's standard battery couldnt be buffed up just a tiny bit to at least 1500mAh..
When I flashed CleanEx it improved my battery time. Touch X-Treme did the same thing. Also you should deactivate all auto-update stuff.
Then it could be that your HTC HD2 lasts a day

ATTENTION! Xperia X10 battery problem SOLVED once and for all! Not kidding

Hi fellow Xperia X10 owners!
Ive got my device now for 4 weeks and in the beginning my battery only lasted for like ... 5-6 hours max ? I got so annoyed i did some research on how to solve it, and to be honest.. ive seen MANY post and MANY solutions but none of them really worked or they were not explained detailed enough to make any sense .. after many useless tweaks i got my battery to last like 12 hours, and that is by just making like 1-2 phone calls and some messages, nothing more, left aside when i made photo's or used the web... so my device was still useless.
Then i started using "advanced task killer" and the auto-kill feature, but that didnt realy solved much so i installed "task cleaner" but that didnt do much either.
Now after 3 days trying to find out what the problem is, i finally came to the solution !!!
Many post suggest using "advanced task killer" but none of them really gave the perfect settings for it, well i finally found them out myself
The settings i use : Auto Kill Level ==> Aggressive
Auto kill Frequency => When screen off
Security Level ==> Low
And now for the first time EVER! my phone can last like 3-5 days without recharging!
Additional tweaks are: 2G only
disabling WIFI and Bluethooth
disable GPS and positioning
Disabling these 3 doesnt realy make any problems since you can access them quickly by using the "networking widget" so i dont care
also put screen brightness to auto adjust and all these other minor things you hear in all the other posts, i am not going to list them once more.
Ive made some photo's for you to see for yourself
I'm a new user so i cant post links yet.. so you will have to copy it

I'm not trying to fool you or anything, i'm honest
(its in Dutch btw)
Time since last Charge says : 4Hr 14min 11sec
And my battery level indicates 100%
At this moment it says 5hr 9min 10 sec and i just entered the 99% zone
i didnt really made any calls or anything, i just checked once in a while how my battery was doing so it was basically running idle but i am still Very impressed!
I'il let you know how it turns out tomorrow etc, after ive made some calls and stuff
Good luck to all of you and i hope your search to happiness is finally complete!
And yes i'm dutch so dont blame my spelling ^^
Regards, clintax
thx for your info, i'll try your setting now
interesting idea, but I think we need to go through the list of what it is closing down in case you want to keep anything running. I Will test your settings and see how it does.
I was just using Kill level - aggressive with security level - medium and it was doing ok. Nothing spectacular but at least I could go all day without needing a charge or battery swap.
i was wondering. What exactly did you auto kill on advanced task manager?
I keep looking and looking there is nothing particular i want to kill.
I'll try this out and see how it goes by tomorrow. And by the way are you using helix launcher, gde or anything? Or is this the only thing you're doing?
I set the level to medium instead of low, we'll see how it goes.
I've followed all of your guidelines, but when I set ATK Auto Kill Frequency to "Screen Off", it immediately turns the screen back on after turning it off. After letting it sit and naturally time out screen off, it immediately turns the screen back on... Vicious power-draining cycle.
Is there some other tweak that I'm missing in your post?
@clintax, I'm pretty sure that the real reason that you see this improvement is because you have basically disabled all your networking facilities.
I have wifi turned on (never turn off when plugged in), GPS is turned on (which is the best because it doesnt consume any power unless some app uses it), bluetooth is off (but can turn on on request via settings widget).
My phone lasts me over 12 hours, which is sufficient to cover a normal work day, I use it in the metro to read books, I check news and feeds occasionally. I use push email so that I get instant notifications.
Personally, I dont think using task killer applications to kill apps is the only factor in the improvements you report. Usually, whenever I check my battery usage, applications+android system are usually under 5% in total.
I'm pretty sure my battery will last longer if I follow your example, but my phone wouldnt be half as useful as it is now. I really dont mind charging it overnight.
Cheers!

followed your instructions but didnt get help. actually, my major battery drains on radio and standby. the 2 items always takes more than 50% of the total drainage.
look forward to the comments from all of you.
Didn't see any improvements either. I usually get 25h+ without running any task killers or start auditors, with 3g always on and medium to hard usage of the phone, which I'm pretty happy with. So I think its the settings of the data and radio that drain the battery, not the applications.
As a fellow Dutchman I'll share my part
Well I've tried most stuff already on my X10 and the only stuff I can really find that drains my battery are faulty apps (or at least in combination with the X10), GPS and searching for network when I'm out of reach (which is seldom).
I've currently disabled Beautiful Widget using the Startup Auditor, because at some point it starts killing my phone by running 100% and not letting my phone go to sleep. And this is what I meant by faulty apps (or in conjunction with the phone/OS).
3G is always enabled (what would be the use of this phone if you would disable all features which makes a smartphone useful).
Network based location enabled (now using it for the Weather & Toggle app).
No taskkillers running whatsoever.
Running Helix Launcher2 as home with seven screens.
Sending 20 to 30 textmessages, browsing the internet for 30 minutes (half with wifi/ half without), some calls about 30 minutes, toying a lot on the phone two hours plus, some Google Maps navigation 15 minutes with GPS enabled.
This will get me two days of usage easily.
Oh and running R1FB001 at the moment but had these results already with the R1EA016.
.
well yea, i installed helix launcher yesterday but i uninstalled it right away because i didnt like it so much.
Well to be honest, before i used the agressive settings etc on ATK, i used the same settings on the rest of my device
Wich are
-Only 2G
-No WIFI or bluethooth on
-Gps off
-autosync off
-dissabled auto-update, and put it on manual
-deleted the cash of moxier, timescape, mediascape in settings->my applications, and removed there icons from the homescreen
-screen brightness on auto
I suggest you take a look at this video from sony, wich explains it more detailed

and my battery still drained atleast 3-4% hr if not more, it is only from WHEN i started using these settings in ATK that my battery life improved like 500%!
BTW as for what features it kills by doing so i dont know yet, but at this moment everything still works perfectly
At this moment i have 14hr 23min 31 sec and 96% battery left, i'il post another pic for you guys.

Well the important part off all this was Security Level ==> Low
it shows you like 3x more things running on you phone then normal, and i just killed them all except: Ignore list= ATK, Xperia Flashlight, Alarm, VizBattery, Handcent Sms and taskpanel, but i dont realy use taskpanel anymore
I am still trying to find out what it actually kills in particular but i heavent found any problems yet

I had two "battery cycles" where the battery lasted 48 hours with my normal usage (Moxier+Gmail in push, 3G data, no WiFi, some Bluetooth while driving the car, no GPS). I noticed that because I usually have a 24 hour duration, and at the end of the day, when I put the phone charging while I sleep, I still had more that 60% of the battery instead of the usual 15%! So I decided to not recharge overnight and so I get about 48 hours both times.
The third cycle lasted even more, about 60 hours!!!
However, starting from the fourth cycle... back to 20 hours, or even less... I have not changed anything, I'm not even using task killers... I really don't know what is wrong with this phone (the problem is not the battery itself, I tried with 2 original SE battery + the mugen).

Wow, the performance is just amazing. I suggest you start to use the phone instead of keeping it idle. Then you can share with us how the battery performs, thanks.
Which version of Advanced Task Killer are you using? as i have just checked mine and do not have the option to kill when screen is off
I have version 1.7.4 build46

Advanced task killer v1.7.9 build 57 (directly from market)
Ok, so with the settings I used over night, I had a 5% drop over a period of 7 hours sitting idle.
Auto Kill level - Safe
Kill Freq - When Screen Off
Security level - Medium
BT, WIFI and APN - disabled.
I had a 1% drop in like 6/7hrs.. fell asleep whilst using xda, 3g was still running an all..
I just use taskpanel
Wifi, gps, bluetooth & auto sync off
also Adw launcher
Edit.. Firmware 016 (only cause I can't remember the rest lolz)

Can people post what firmware they are using when they are posting their battery usage stats etc

R2BA020 review

No matter how much SE can piss me off, I have to say they did a good job with the last update R2BA020 .
I did fully charge my battery, did not use any task killer or such only kept adw launcher. With a normal use the battery last me a little over 48 hours I was at 10% when i devided to recharge it again.
-Around 2 hours of video
-4 hours of reading with Aldiko
-1 hours of internet
-Around 50 txt msg
-20 call 5-15 min each
-3 Pictures
-4 Hour of music while reading
-Email and weather widget run to update every hour
-Fancy widget running
-Bluetooth on all the time
-Gps and wifi was off all the time
Bottom line it’s impressive, now I really can enjoy my device without carrying a charger and searching for an outlet all the time .
I completely agree, the 020 firmware is fantastic. My usage differs slightly but even using Bluetooth to listen to Spotify all day didn't drain my battery. Neither did using my phone as a wireless 3G modem with Wifi tethering.
Well, yes, nice improvements but the WIFI is still using a lot of juice
wifi is confirmed using alot.
the phonebook is now kind of stupid...
when you click a person's name, their contact shows up, and when you tap their phone #...instead of calling that person directly it would bring you to the dialer screen with the # entered in and you need to press "call" to call the person...
i mean..if im in someones contact page and i tap their #..im pretty sure i want or need to call them....i really dont understand the point of bringing the dialer screen up again..pretty stupid on SE's part in my opinion
Well a quicker step would be to long hold their name and call them
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Well, I've rooted my device yesterday, started using it massively around 3 or 4 am to reconfigure everything and now its battery is at 8%:
throughout all the process wifi was used for internet (when needed, of course), 3g/gps/bluetooth turned off.
* Installed a lot of apps, some using barcode scanner, some using appbrain.
* Synced with google
* Restored a backup
* Reconfigured a lot of apps
* around 6 sms
* tweeted 2 or 3 times
* 5 to 10 calls 10m~ each
* listened to music through the day (around 2 hours of music, simple last fm scrobbler was used to cache the data, didn't scrobbled yet)
* read a pdf book around 1 hour
* some random usage through the day, like checking online stuff.
* Since I go to work using the subway, the signal reception is quite poor, so the phone prolly was searching for signal during the day.
Even wifi draining a lot of battery, the phone battery was quite good for everything that I've done today.
Apart from the battery the whole system feels better, all the UI customizations done by SE are faster (timescape, mediascape, dialer and so on).
I can say, like all of you, SE did a good job on this update. I can't wait for the Q3 2.1 release. Seriously, I want 720p video recording so much
Greetings guys,
Whats the difference R2BA020 and B2FA020.
Thanks for your kind reply.

has anyone noticed any difference in call quality - in call volume especially
this was the thing i looked forward to getting the most out of this upgrade but no much difference i notice, still can't hear very well in any outside environment
i hope this issue becomes resolved...
I usually use headphones while outdoors, so I can't help here. Indoors it's been quite good, at least for me.

I was on fw 16 and it was a litter bit low but still fine, didn't notice any difference between 16 and 20 tho.
never heard of B2FA020 - Think it might have been a typo on someone's part?
Screen off while in call.
Not to start a new thread, I'll pin my question to this one. I've updated to R2BA020 (O2 Irl branded) and noticed that whenever in call the screen is not turning off, as it used to before. Did anyone else experienced this problem?

check your screen time out settings in the settings/ display/ screen timeout section.. it may be that it's reverted to a longer timeout period or to not time out at all.

Nope, still @ 15 seconds...
Though overall battery usage seems to be better with R2BA020 (Rogers), I've run into an odd issue:
When tethering via PdaNet, my battery drains at an alarming rate. It dropped 20% in the past hour. This wasn't the case before I upgraded (was using stock Rogers firmware before) - it would drain, but much more slowly, going from 100% to maybe 55% over the course of the 8 hours I was at work tethered. It's almost as if it's not charging at all via USB (or is charging much more slowly than before).
I checked, and the phone does register as charging while tethered. So I'm not sure what exactly the issue is. Nothing else has changed.
-edit-
Turned off PdaNet during a meeting I had today just to make sure my X10 is charging properly via USB, and sure enough it is (gained 12% charge over the hour).
after updating into R2BA020, my sim tool kit and play now were gone. Now, I want them back (especially STK). Does anyone know how to do it? My X10 is not rooted yet.
I'm pretty happy with the new Facebook app. It got rid of the "Camera" icon on the mainscreen and replaced it with "Inbox", which makes so much more sense.
My ringtones got reset, and I noticed that Astro File Manager lost a few file associations. I'm prompted for all sorts of default apps etc now, but it's just a minor annoyance.
I did the update through the Sony Ericsson PC Software. The first boot after update took a very long time on the Rogers splash screen. I was afraid the device was bricked for a couple of minutes. I guess it was just the first boot, and the Xperia was restoring all my user data.
Does anyone have comparison between R2BA020 and R2BA023? appreciate if it includes benchmarking between them.

yes, Am also facing the same problem

[POLL: Vote 4 Yours] Summary of issues people having with g4

Let's be clear. G4 is an awesome device. But it's still kindof in the pre-production phage, don't you think? It's not even available 10 countries in the world. Anyway many of who have already bought LG G4, are actually migrated from another smartphone branding either HTC, Samsung, Nexus, Apple etc. And the youtubers contributed a lot in this publicity for LG. I hardly found anyone said any bad thing about G4, neither about it's battery life nor performance in those videos or reviews. But these two have become the most concerning area as well as disappointment for many of the users right now. I, myself also have been suffering with a few issues. I have already changed one device. Coming from XDA forum, here I will try my best to summarize all the problems people are facing with their G4 & also my observation on that matter from my personal experience as well as gathered knowledge from almost all the forums in XDA:
1. MISSED TAP:
Almost all users reporting that G4 missing many taps to recognize.
My observation:
Well, I have also experienced a few missed taps. But what I think it's not a LCD issue, rather less optimization/smoothness issue of the G4 ROM. How do I know? Well I switched on the touch sound. And every tap I did, including the missed ones, there was tapping sound. Even I tested in the manual testing, nothing reported like that. And even after formatting, symptoms reduced for some. But surely it's very annoying.
Oh one thing about knock codes, I found LG LCD doesn't response to gentlest touches sometimes. You need to press slightly a bit more. Fact to be considered : I am still using the provided plastic protector.
2. LAGGING ISSUE:
There is stuttering here and there in G4, not only in the stock launcher but also in the whole system.
My observations:
No doubt G4 lags. You will notice less smoothness / sluggishness while sliding any page up & down in chrome, youtube, Google plus or anything. It is not "butter smooth" like some other OEMs for most of the users. But switching to Nova, turning off smart bulletin & dual window helped to some extent, but not completely.
3. BATTERY LIFE:
Many of the moderate to heavy users complaining about quick battery drainage with low to medium brightness.
My observations:
LG said many things about their battery life of G4 in their announcement party and many well-known youtubers also said very much positive things about G4's battery life i.e. it can easily last a day which raised up the expectation bar of many users. But the real scenario is quite not like that. Most of the medium to heavy users are getting average 3 - 4.5 hours SOT with keeping screen brightness low to medium which is not at all the way LG mentioned. It seems like LG is providing that extra battery knowing the fact that you will need to put on that extra one at the middle of the day for sure. Anyway, what I found is: G4's stand-by time is OUTSTANDING. Don't turn on that screen much, only receive a few calls, you can pass a decade (not literally) with a single charge. But turn on that screen, do browse, chat, Facebooking or Youtubing or anything keeping that overkill screen on, you will hardly pass 5 hours maximum. Raise the brightness a bit more, like 75-100%, brother, you are doomed. Your G4 will die within hours. For some, turning off auto brightness & keeping the brightness below 50% all the time, turning off fast-dormency, turning off GPS, using Greenify helped a bit. Anyway, my point is that awesome-bright-vivid-overkill screen is actually the curse for the G4 at present if LG doesn't bring up some solutions for it. What's the point if you can not enjoy the juice of a fruit which is known to be the tastiest of them all???
4. HEATING & SLOW CHARGING ISSUE:
Very limited people including mine are complaining of frequent, not consistent, heating up issue of the phone as well as slow charging.
My observations:
Many factors can be responsible for this. Some people find this scenario happening once a day, for some once in two days and these two issues are interconnected in my opinion. What can heat up the phone? May be some hidden apps, maybe weather, maybe some other things, but surely it does for some. Yah we have seen in all the reviews that G4 warms up a bit, but not very much. But the people who are complaining about it, found it uncomfortable to speak touching the phone to the face. I will attach a screenshot here, in which my phone was completely idle, was on charge, no phone call came & my phone got heat up to 42 degrees & it took almost 5 hours to charge from 20 - 100%. Again I am saying this is not a consistent scenario, but it's frustrating for some including mine.
5. OTHER ISSUES:
These are some random issues found by some people:
a) White sparking light in the screen.
b) Yellow tint on screen.
c) Bad bluetooth audio.
d) Wifi speed problem.
e) Helium app doesn't work properly.
f) Nova launcher cannot install properly.
g) Vibration too soft.
h) Auto brightness inconsistancy.
So guys, if you have read it and if you are one of those renowned youtubers or columnists or bloggers whom LG guys follow on regular basis, please make an article or video about it, spread these information and let the LG guys know about these so that they can do something about it. I personally believe, software update can solve 95% of the issues. So be it.
Thanks for your patience to read my post.
I guess I've been pretty lucky thusfar.
Only missed taps I've had is on the double-tap to wake, but I think it might be due to my hardly tapping it (was used to HTC's touch profile last time I had this feature).
No lags here. I did notice that once, when I hit Home button, I returned to a blank home screen and it took about 5 seconds for the icons/widgets to show up...hasn't happened since the one time, though.
Charging, I use the stock charger from my old Note 4, so I get decent times with that (generally 10%-100% in about 50 mins...I'll take that).
As far as battery, I get about 3 hours screen on and 16-18 hours total per charge. Not bad considering I'm a heavy user when the screen is on and stream Spotify via BT speaker 12 hours/day while at work. I've only been through 3 charge cycles so far. It's still not what I was used to with the M8 or Note 4, so I will admit I'd like it to be better.
I think I would go just about nuts if I had any of 5a, b, c, or d. LOL
5d is a huge concern for me. My WiFi speed is complete bollocks. I'm getting a reading of 60mb down from my 5gh router when running speedtest on the phone. But when I actually load a website it's like I'm using dial up again. The load times are atrocious! I'm going to look into changing chanels on my router as someone has mentioned as a fix. Fingers crossed
I haven't had any of those issues. Honestly been flawless so far. Surprised by how smooth it is. I do only get 3 hours sot if I run power intensive apps. But I think that's normal.
The only real issue I've had is **** slowness on Wi-Fi but blazing speed on data
Sent from my G4 using your mom
Wifi speeds are complete crap for me i swear it's like im on dial up waiting for a page to load and forget about getting youtube to load

Same here. Not sure why there is so much inconsistency between devices. I bought the US trial version, and mine has been relatively good. If I had half of the problems reported I would have sold this thing ASAP and waited for a better crop of devices to come out this fall. I'm one of the few people who really like a stripped down TouchWiz, but with Knox/sealed but not waterproof body/no SD/weak battery the S6 wasn't cutting it. If only Samsung sold the Exynos to these other vendors... For now, I'm fine with the G4, but really hope we get root and unlocked BL so development explodes and the kernel can get tweaked.
Only problem I've had is holding back my enthusiasm about how flawless this phone is ( my wife would try to hijack it if she knew how impressed I am). I do miss 4 buttons on the bottom though

You can add the 4th button. You can add up to 5. Settings - Display - Home touch buttons - Button combination
Perfect summary.
I've also seen a lot of people saying that they aren't having these problems which can lead to people thinking the phone is perfect, which it's not. I love the screen size and the display but the software is really letting this phone down.
I've experienced many problems too, such as: stuttering, poor battery life at high brightness, brightness dimming down by itself, slow charging, lag and stutter in games, e.g. dead trigger 2 and subway surfers (yes I've turned off game optimiser) and the notification pull down freezing frequently when I get a notification. However, as I saw a lot of people saying that their phones were perfect I chose to exchange my phone instead of return it. My new phone has the exact same problems (uk device on v10a).
Maybe these problems can be fixed with a software update but the question is will it? My G3 lagged and stuttered from the beginning and no software update changed that. The only fix was to switch to a cm12 rom which made the phone finally perform smoothly, at the cost of battery life and camera quality.
It's been at least 3 phones in a row now that have had poor software (g3, g flex 2 and now g4). They're supposed to test their phones before putting them out to consumers but it doesn't seem like they really care so I don't have much hope.
Worst thing is I really want to love this phone and think LG's hardware design is perfect but the software is most likely going to make me sell it.
It might be worth mentioning which version you're on, especially if it's one where the provider (such as VZW) has bogged it down with bloatware. That could conceivably be a contributing factor to battery life issues, if nothing else.
Just a suggestion. Might be a good idea for people to put which model they're on and which Software version they're running.
Like I'm on the H811 running version 81110D. That way, we can see if any issues might be carrier type or software version based...
Just a thought.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but on the Sprint model the WiFi randomly turns itself on. I rarely use WiFi, so it's definitely not me turning it on and forgetting that i did or anything.
I was having a issue where my screen Brightness would change on it's own. Tmobile H811 running version 81110D ? I believe that was the version before the update I got and installed on its own last night of H. When I mean change on it's own I had the Screen Brightness on 100% like every other phone and after the few secs when the screen dims and you touch it again the screen brightness would now be set to 70% now 100%. AUTO is off I don't use that.
I will see if this happens on the H update or not.

I've actually seen this on the TMO version (8110d). Very sporadic (or it happens more than I realize but I don't spend enough time looking at the phone to notice, not sure which).
I've also seen it randomly turn OFF wifi (just happened 30 seconds ago) for no reason. Interestingly enough THAT one might be oddly due to some weird power saving feature or something as I was just able to reproduce it 3 times in a row turning the screen off and on.
Screen on=wifi on
Screen off=wifi off
Weird stuff.

Go into Wi-Fi Settings.
Under Advanced Wifi Settings
In Useful Settings, there is a setting for "Keep Wi-Fi on when screen is off".
It's set to NO by default.
I would imagine it's some sort of power saving feature.

In setting, wifi, advanced there is an option for turning off wifi when the screen is off. Check that and wifi will stay on. Still haven't digured out why it's turning itself on though.

I haven't touched anything in Wi-Fi settings other than setting my passkey and turning "Always allow scanning" off. That setting for Wi-Fi off when screen is off was on when I got the phone. Looks like default position.
It probably doesn't help that they keep losing software engineers at their California office (i work at LG). Senior engineers to make things worse.
The yellow tint on the screen is the part that upsets me the most. The lead-up to the G4's release was all about how superior the screen is to the G3's. Yet the G4's I've received have had yellow tint issue (two of them so far). The screen also appears dimmer than my old G3 at max brightness as well (this is before auto dimming kicks in too.)
There seems to be a rather big shipment of G4's with yellow screens in my area. I've been to 4 different AT&T stores in the past 4 days and have seen at least 5 brand new phones with the yellow tint. It seems to be restricted to the grey metallic retail ones as well. None of the display models or the leather backed ones I've seen thus far as the yellow tint issue. This is in Houston, TX btw. I'm heading to a 5th after work in the hopes of finding a G4 with a non-defective screen.
