The THANKS! thread - Touch HD General

Hey folks,
I just got my Touch HD two weeks ago from amazon.de for about 600€ (about 800USD actually - as my HD says) and I spent the last two weeks mostly in this forum just reading, reading about what I can do with this peace of hardware. And I found out - it's alot. It's really great what you can do with it (although there are a lot of "but's"). But that's not the topic here.
I found out that this forum exists out of a really rockin' group of people who share there knowledge - and I was occupied for two weeks just reading in the xda-developers forum. 95% of my questions have already been answered here.
So I just wanna say THANKS!!!! for all your efforts here!!
I'm hoping not too much of you are annoyed by such a thread, but maybe
some of you do agree with that statement and join...
This is my first thread here btw, after reading hundreds
regards,
Börny
(Austria)
p.s.: Though I'm not yet in christmas mood because of working and studying 24/7, but -- happy holidays out there!

HERE HERE !!!!
well said, and i totally agree.
seasons greeting to you too

yes all the way,
i pretty much "grew up" here. i was was a junior member not long ago, asking for help and asking for opinions. now that i know more about phones, people are asking me for help and opinions. it's great!

Noob section

I know I may be way out of line here but this is just a suggestion. I am a total noob to the Android platform and I have found this website rather informative. Before I start I just want to thank everyone that has poured their blood sweat and tears into these handset. Your knowledge and time posting in threads is greatly appreciated. I have been sitting in front of my laptop, trying to learn a new OS for days. I have been scouring multiple forums, tons of threads, and Google searching for hours. My GF is pissed at me too! I have been doing this just to find the answers to the smallest of questions. I feel intimidated to post a question because I’m not sure whether or not my question is worthy of posting. Largely because I don’t want my arm bit off by some Linux-Android super alligator genius.
I have been in the saltwater reef hobby for years. I have been a member of many forums. In every forum I have been part of we had a NOOB section. This is a place where you can ask any question and have it answered by another noob, average user or admin. Most of the time the threads are all simple trouble shooting and other noobies are solving the issue with them. I sold my last tank three months ago and I still occasionally log on and answer noob questions. Just to support the hobby. I feel the G1 and Magic sections could find this very helpful.
The more people become informed about how this new OS system works the farther we can take push these devises. They will become faster, stronger and more affordable. OPEN HANDSET ALLIACE! I am aware there are some really lazy people out there that do need to research a little (aka simple Google search) before they post. On the other hand some people have kids screaming in the background, significant others that want them to spend every waking moment with them, dogs barking and the list could go on forever. For these people hours of research just is not an option. They need fast-informed answers. A NOOB section could help free up a lot of time for developers, moderators and senior members. Along with being very beneficial and supportive for the Android platform.
Again this is just a suggestion and I’m sorry for being off topic. Thanks.
searching the forums do not take that long and I think as long as you atleast tried a seach (not spend hours searching) and the "n00b" asks well laid out questions everyone would be happy to answer. I am sure it gets frustrating to the "Linux-Android super alligator genius" types when there are 5 threads already about MT3G rooting and some one creates a new thread to ask how to root the MT3G. Everyone will be ok as long as they think before they post.
This is in my opinoin a great idea!
Im a total noob myself and like this alot.
First question:
Are Flash supported by Hero roms? And will there be problems for official updates for Android och Magic from HTC if I root the phone?
(excuse the bad english)
//Nummer3
I have been here for bout two years now and I agree with it being easy to search threads for answers. Sadly, the price we pay for being "into" our phones is that our spouses, kids, and sometimes work bear the burden for our hobby. The more you learn, the easier it gets. Just keep reading and be a sponge. One day the Mrs. will be bragging to her freinds about her modded device to.

Big Thank You

Hey folks
Just wanted to drop a big THANK YOU to all the helping folks here in the forums and the awesome developer community.
You're just great.
I started reading these forums half a year ago. No clue of android.
Just an old HTC desire ...
So I startred reading the dummy how-tos, decided to root my Desire, what lead me to the root how-tos.
After rooting, the customer support of HTC sucked. I flashed cyanogen7.
Happy till today. (link2sd ^^ ... )
Then I rooted my Transformer 101, flashed a bunch of roms, got stuck in the recovery loop, many of us know, got out of it, flashed new recovery, flashed different kernels, than the Roms include ...
And all just by reading these forums.
Damn, you guys rock \m/
I posted a very similar thread here myself a few months back..isn't it awesome here? (besides the obvious trolls lol)
I'm learning to develop ROMs and apps now thanks to the community here, learned how to use git, and even met a few people that I work with now outside of the site on android development. Community is the best part of this place, but even lacking the community the information here is massive lol

You're right. But I as a dummy I fell some kind of mercy with all those, that take the time to explain something a 100 times, that was explained at the start of a topic ...
The amount of information here is truly massive.
Big thanks from me too. I start reading this forum 4 months ago and tunned up my transformer. It's alot better than wen i bought it...
It's a fantastic community and it must have our appreciation!
Yes..agree
There's some great folks here in all sorts of threads..
Some grumpy old folks
Some green folks
Some pain in the arse folks..
But as a whole it makes for a better user experience for us all on our devices.
Edit.. and a thanks to the Mods for keeping us all under control..

[Q] Does one have to be an expert?

I mean no disrespect by asking why no one here will answer a newbies questions? I know that my 2 question threads probably sounded pretty dumb to a lot of members who seem pretty brilliant, but a person has to start somewhere. I personally like to learn from experts, which is why I joined this forum. I'm sorry I'm not an expert yet, but with a little bit of your time and patience, maybe I could be, too. I used to sell cell phones and knew a fair amount at the time, but years have gone by that I didn't even have a cell phone and I didn't keep up with the technology. When I decided to get a cell phone again, after much research, and stumbling across this forum, I fell
in love with the Defy. I would really like to learn to do all this stuff that you guys do, but apparently I got a bad one, I don't know for sure because I didn't get an answer from one single person. I finally reluctantly returned the phone last night, before it was too late. I still don't want to give up, so I ordered a new one. If I have the same problem of it connecting to internet, I guess I'm giving up if no one will help. Are newbies not welcome here? Again, I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful...but is this forum strictly for experts? beginners not welcome? If it is, I apologize for intruding!

I think that anyone is willing to help, but most times everything you want to know has already been asked. The best thing to do is Google your issue, add xda on the end of your question, and chances are there's an answer there. It's when folks ask the same question that's between asked and answered ad nauseam, and its obvious that the poster didn't take the time to do any research on their own. I sincerely believe that anyone in here would help someone that had a question that hasn't been solved yet, and the person did all the research they could but were just so overwhelmed they can't fix it. My advice is to read, read, and read some more. Then if you still can't find what you need, ask one of the experts. They are the best there is, and have helped me tremendously. Good luck!

Thanks for answering. I was looking and reading under the motorola defy section, not the whole website. I was thinking the problem was specific to this phone. I guess I'll keep looking- it'd be great if I had more time to devote to this quest. Thanks anyway.
AW: [Q] Does one have to be an expert?
the other part is, that most oft the experts and discussions here about MB525, 526 ... an other reason why it could be difficult to get answered for XT555 ...

Because the thread beginning and live from the defy and the defy + is near then the same.

dr.ketan - thank you!

I started this thread out of respect, appreciation, admiration & concern for this guy.
I’ve owned N2 for several months. Back then I read many threads – how to root, backup EFS, other stuff you need to know for flashing our device. Next I moved on to mods, ROMs, tweaks. All the time I saw DrKetan threads everywhere – then slowly became aware of his high activity level. I don't need to go on about the his leaked ROM efforts do I?
I thought ‘doctor’ was a name he chose for fun. Because he was like a doctor for our N2. Then recently found out he IS a doctor. Holy sh** I thought - Yes lots of us have important jobs, demanding jobs, me included. But most of us DON’T contribute to N2 forum NEAR AS MUCH as he does.
So that’s why I made this thread. There is so much community appreciation for him, it’s evident in all his threads. In fact we love him so much that our own thanks dr.ketan! posts clutter up his development threads making it hard to find information
Hoping we can
a) Somehow convey to him our appreciation, at a base and genuine level, for his work. All we can offer are words I guess, though I notice he has Donate button. Maybe we can buy him something useful, like a second N2 in case he bricks his??
b) Draw his attention to the fact he seems to sleep like 3 hours a night and THAT’S NOT HEALTHY, doctor! LOL he should know better
Umm if this thread is seen as lame and I get blasted for making it, so be it, but as a former newb: thanks drketan !!
Hey I appreciate the thanks fellas, but really hope to get your posts here.
--> Who has a dr.ketan story worth telling? Yes I know that 75% of us benefitted from his advice at some point, for example his Backup EFS thread prevented lots of us ending up with unusable phones but ... what about the time your child was lost in a snowstorm, the whole town was looking when suddenly dr.ketan knocked on your door with child in his arms??
Yes I know that's a silly joke but c'mon guys, we also like threads that aren't about mods or ROMs so ... let it rip - pay homage to the hardest working dude on this forum.
Heartfelt Thanks
He is very nice and very friendly.. He is always dedicated in his Profession as well as to Android development. He helped me, Guided me many times when i was using Note 1 and Now on Note 2. Wait, joshphilips, that sounds like a speech you give at someone's funeral
Thanks for your words, mate.
dr.ketan is amazing man.....:good::good::good::good::good::good:
sorry for my bad english...
Guys you are awesome, And apart from i am running out of thanks today also I don't have words to thank you.
But
I feel this kind of thread is against XDA rule and before someone have to report I am doing it mysef right now.
Kindly don't consider this as insulting but we all are bound to follow rules
And again thank you very much for love you always showers on me.
Regards All.
Ketan, I didn't realise this kind of thread is against rules & it's appropriate I follow those rules. Whatever happens, happens. That xda video that all new members must watch ... I guess I missed something.
Was hoping, as more people became aware of the thread, we'd put our thoughts together how to convince you to get some proper sleep
Cheers
Even is against the xda rules ,
I want to thank you for all your effort and time you give to us .
you are a real men and a model.
Not against the rules per say... but if we had an appreciation thread for every good developer, the forums would be a huge mess (well, ok, messier than they currently are)

Just wanted to say hello...

I can see there are a few other "first hello" threads about (although the others seem somewhat old), but I thought it'd be a better start than just bombarding everyone with questions that have no doubt been asked already.
So far, I've destroyed a GT-i9000, successfully upgraded a GT-i9100 to 4.1.2, and I'm half way through trying to play around with my HTC Wildfire S (the pain in the backside it's turning out to be). In short, I can see this becoming a bit of a hobby.
I've got a bit of background in programming, databases, and a few other relevant fields (no notable achievements, but plenty of enthusiasm). I'm starting a course tomorrow at a university in Taiwan (it's actually run by MIT) for developing health care delivery systems for remote areas, so I expect I'll be on here over the coming months (it's just a one-semester gig for now).
I did notice a few frequent posters here, but I don't know how active everyone is, so - HELLO IF YOU'RE HERE!
....and echo... ech... cho... ho... o... .. . if I'm talking to myself!... yself!... self! ... elf!.. lf! ...f! :silly:
I'll keep roaming around in circles for a while and probably have some questions soon! Cheers!

Hi, welcome to xda developers a few things you should note, those hello threads are strictly speaking not allowed as they are counted as off topic. (If everyone one had a hello goodbye thread these forums would be packed XD) secondly you state your working with a wildfire s, this is the wildfire forums the wildfire s is newer and has better hardware. Quick way to tell is if your phone does not have the trackball is the newer model
