Yes, and Yes. It updates your graphics driver, amongst others.

If you search this forum for "HotFix" you come up with this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=454669&highlight=hotfix ......amongst several others. Searching is a virtue....
Welcome on board!!
I didn't notice any improvement in overall speed or stability. I'm constantly trying out new software, so I'm used to great fluctuations in usability.
However, Opera used to freeze up to 5 seconds during heavy finger/stylus panning. (Typically a shear pattern would be visible in the top left corner of the screen while frozen.) With the hotfix, this problem was gone.
I also think that TF3D takes noticably longer to start after the fix, but that's negligible in the long run.
not to mee..I have beter results before insaling hotfix...then,I uninstall hotxih and install ti again...same problem is present

Correct. Cannot notice any speed increases. The freezing is gone. Great update.
Fixed Opera's scrolling issues - now it works like I expected it to. As for the freezes, I noticed a couple and then installed the patch. Haven't seen them since.
Worked like a patch should - have fun!
I have serious problems with freezing. When I installed the fix they absolutely disappeared!!!
Yes it works....
I can't install the hotfix. "Please use the correct version to install this Hotfix program"
My rom verison is less than the one stated and the lockups are killing me.

i have been using the htc g1 for several months now and have noticed that its performance is not as good as it used 2 be. by this i mean the interface is very slow now and in performing small tasks it tends to lag frequently. my phone is updated to cupcake 1.5. i am wondering if any if you can suggest ways to improve the functionality of my phone for example, by installing a different firmware. i have tried deleting several of my apps from the market but that only improved the situation slightly. thanks

Do you have root? if so,then just upgrade to Cyanogen's latest build his are much faster then the stock firmware. Also, rather then randomly deleting apps, have you tried any of the task managers? There are apps that run constantly in the background, enough of them at once will slow your phone down big time. Do you have a lot of widgets, apps or folders on your home screen? Too many and it bogs down your home screen.
yes i do have a task manager and i only seems to help slight. i do have apps on my home screen but not so much only about 3 pages worth and i think the phone should be able to handle that. my phone is not rooted. how do i get the firmware u are talking about. more info would be great.
A fresh wipe would make it VERY fast. Uninstalling apps and such from stock firmware doesn't really help... well, it didnt atleast for me

Goto each one on the list and it will have a button that says Clear Cache and Clear Data. Tap both of those and after doing them all you should be fine. It might take awhile to do them all but it will fix your problem.
So after running rooted Gingerbread for a while now I've noticed a few bugs and was wondering if I was the only one.
First thing is Swype. Yeah yeah, I know everyone has that one. But after uninstalling the old apk with Root Explorer and then installing the beta everything initially worked fine. But my first reboot after the install of the beta Swype force closes every time it trys to open. Uninstall and reinstall doesn't fix the problem. Weird, but not a huge deal to me as I didn't use it that much anyway.
Second, and the most annoying thing I noticed, is the back lit buttons stop lighting up after a certain period of time. The soft buttons under the screen and the slide out keyboard still work, they just don't light up. Rebooting fixes the problem.
Third is the built in battery manager seems to have some issues as well. Although it seems to inherently do a better job of saving battery life than in previous versions of Android. On my phone it sometimes won't come out of it's no-syncing state and allow data usage. Other times it will allow data usage after waking back up, but data seems extremely slow. Again a reboot fixes the issue.
And the last thing I noticed today. Although I haven't had any noticeable signal issues or dropped calls, I was getting drastically different signal readings sitting right beside a guy with a DROIDX at work. As in he was showing full 3G service and I was only showing one bar of 1X and like a -100 RSSI. I realize it's two different phones, but my understanding was that the X and the original 2 were pretty similar.
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed any of these things or if I'm the only one with some bugs? Or if anyone has any ideas about a solution for any of the issues?
FYI I'm far from an expert, but I'm not a complete Noob either. Although I don't have a ton of posts I've been hacking my cell phone since the days of my Razr and have had and rooted three Android phones to this point.
Anyway, thanks a bunch guys!

Only problem that I have is that using Launcherpro when the home screen is rotated 90 degrees (widescreen-ish) and then rotated back the wallpaper gets a "letterbox" effect similar to what you see on TV's. Haven't looked into it too much, probably just an issue with Launcherpro.

You said uninstalling the old apk, but did you remove the other 2 related files as well? When I first got my phone, I only removed the apk and had issues until I found this link:

I noticed the same thing. And actually LauncherPro in general wasn't working too great for me after the GB install. I actually kind of like the stock launcher in GB so I ended up deleting LauncherPro anyway.

Yeah sorry I should have gone into more detail. Yes I did delete all entries I saw that referenced Swype, including the ones listed on the link.
To be even more specific when I try to do anything with Swype it says "The applitcation Swype (process com.swype.android.inputmethod) has stopped unexpectedly."
I'm having a weird bug where three shortcuts to games I put on my start screens keep disappearing: Bejeweled, Optime's Hangman and Tic Tac Toe. I put them back and they stay for a while, but eventually, just disappear. I even rebooted after putting them back and this did nothing. It's quite strange.

mines the same and its weird cause it only does it to games
also i have the problem of the backlights only working when they want to.
Maybe Google's way of telling us to get off the games and get to work?

Glad I'm not the only one with back light issues.
And I actually just noticed the games disappearing this morning. Weird.

The backlight issue bugs me to no end. I try to figure out how to restore it without rebooting but no success so far.
One other issue is that I can't access the multitouch keyboard. I disabled it because I really never used it, but then I felt like using it one day and there is no place to check to use it. I have SwiftKey installed as my only 3rd party keyboard
I'm having an issue with ridiculously low volume on phone calls......any fixes out there because it's hard to use your phone, as a, you know, phone, when you can't hear the other person on the line. I may have to SBF back and wait for the official 2.3 if it doesnt improve.
Rebooting takes care of the call volume problem.
Rooted Droid 2 running Froyo 2.2 with the 2.3.20 update
Yeah I had the low call volume too, I think everyone did. It went away after the first reboot.
As fas as the games disappearing. Someone mentioned Bejeweled, that's one of the ones on mine that keeps disappearing. There are a few that do it, I don't remember exactly which ones, but Bejeweled and Stupid Zombies are two that I remember always disappear.

What screen was it on before? They were disappearing from screen two to the right of my home screen.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
my games are on the 2nd page to the left and for me its stupid zombies, angry birds, angry birds seasons, and angry birds rio that keep disappearing, the other 4 game shortcuts i have don't disappear. I also tried reversing where they sit and the same 4 shortcuts disappeared, even sitting in different locations.
Hmmm, who knows. Even though all of mine weren't disappearing, just certain ones, it got annoying to me. I just deleted the shortcuts from my screen and pull up the games from the launcher now.
It is strange that its only certain games, and that we all seem to have the same ones disappearing.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
I believe that's where it was on mine as well.
Hopefully I wont jinx myself by posting this, but I think I found a solution to the back light issue. Applied it this morning and haven't had any issues yet. If anyone is still reading this thread, I will post up results and the fix tomorrow if it continues working.

Stutter and lag can happen once in a while, which is there on even the best of phones. Besides that you might notice a small lag if you restart the phone and stock apps start for the first time. Or soon after installing a new rom might lag as well for a minute.
Did factory resetting fix this problem? I am having the same lag in scrolling, since I received the phone. Am thinking about factory resetting now.

Are you using the default theme? I have noticed that with some of the themes I have tried there is a problem with lag or stuttering between home screens. This is not the case with most themes, but some of them seem a bit badly put together as they can cause problems. The one I'm using at the moment (Lyle's Golden Age) is completely lag-free. I found the original theme so ugly that I removed it immediately and I can't remember if it had a problem.
This problem seems to be of a software nature and if you use Nova launcher there should be no problem.

I am not using the default theme. I tried Lyle's Golden Age to check, but still stuttering.
I use the Google Now Launcher, where it is really obvious.
When I swipe to the left to get to the now part, the device has to load the list. Takes like half a second.

Ok then, this is nothing I have seen at all! In your situation I would suspect a bad app and so I would firstly try to uninstall apps one at a time and if this didn't help, factory reset.
BTW, what is your firmware version and where did you buy it?

Bought it from Vmall, EU version.
Firmware version PLK-L01C432B121.
I might just do a factory reset.
Strange things are happening, and I think this lagging is happening since the first boot.
Your phone is 100% smooth?
Like if you open an app that has a scrolling list and immediately start to scroll, it doesn't lag and keep running a little bit when you stop?

I can only remember two apps from the top of my head that have had this behaviour, and that is the default web browser and Tapatalk. I use Chrome for web browsing and with it there are no problems at all. Tapatalk has improved over the latest versions, so if I just wait a second before starting to scroll there is no problem.
Other apps are super smooth right away. Name an app that you have problems with and I will test it.

I just downloaded doubletwist player, where if I add a podcast (W&W mainstage) it will lag hard if I scroll up and down fast the list of episodes.
The whole app overall is a little bit slow for some reason.
If you want to try that one, I would be very interested to know what you experience.

I tried it a bit and Went to the Games and Hobbies pod section and it seems completely smooth on my phone. The list and icons has to be fetched first, but apart from the online downloading time the list is smooth to scroll. There are hundreds of pods so you can't expect them to load instantly. When it says Reading... at the bottom it has to stop and this has nothing to do with the phone.

I have a hard time distinguishing between something just still loading in while scrolling or just lagging.
I took the same list you just said, and if I load like 200 things and then scroll trough that list it is smooth until is suddenly jumps a bit.
Then it is smooth again, and then again a little jump and skipping a few podcasts and stuff.
That doesn't happen for you?

No, if I let it load 200 podcasts and scroll fast through that list it runs comlpetely smooth and stops only if I put my finger on it. It rolls almost all the way down to the last entry if I swipe fast with my finger.

Do that and do NOT reinstall a backup of apps or settings, only contacts or so. As little as possible as some app or setting, in that order, probably is the cause of your problem.
Good luck!!

If you have sd-card mounted, first try to unmount and remove this, it might have problems that result in stutter.
I already did the factory reset several times and Updated the phone to B140 and continue with a lot of lag in apps and between screens.
I come from a Nexus5, I don't know if is my perception of smooth that is to high.
Anyone else feel the same?
I dont have problems either.
Was really smooth on B140, now with Android 6 even more.
Hi all!
I am a Samsung user genuinely. But since my last phone broke down, it broke my budget too.
Got Nova and here are some bugs.
1) Bluetooth speaker issue. the sound is way late than the video. (Edit: Fixed by going in developer options and changing "Bluetooth audio codec")
2) Camera is not having any kind of stabilization.
3) It hangs like hell and u r not left with any option. Not even restart.
4) Not the fastest 4gb ram phone.
5) The interface of the phone is laggy af ( can be fixed by installing 3rd party launchers).
6) Processor temps are never lower than 60 degree C. Idk if its fine or not but antutu temp sensor always shows it in red text.
These are the ones I could find... tell if u have any.. or at least have found fix for any of them.
BTW...
Today got an update of 288MB which is currently downloading. Hope it fixes some bugs.

Lol I kinda like mine, except for a few things I guess but I got it for a good deal, well I reckon anyway - $380 NZD.
What did you replace it with?
Hello! These issues, especially the Camera app being buggy, are common.
The performance issue, please go to settings > Battery > Battery Usage and see which apps are using a lot of background usage, then click on the app and there's written 'App Launch', click on that and toggle off the 'Manage Automatically' and also toggle off all of the toggled on things to prevent the app from consuming background usage.
On this device you can also disable/uninstall many apps that if u dont need, please do so, here are some list of apps you can disable which would improve performance:
1. Gmail (replace with another mail client like FairEmail)
2. Youtube (replace with another application like NewPipe)
3. You can also disable playstore and the main Google app.
4. You can also disable Google Play Services, this consumes a lot of background usage, more than HMS! You can replace playstore with F-Droid and you can get FOSS apps.
5. Replace Facebook with Frost for Facebook, or disable background access to it from the previous performance issue guide.
I am not getting performance issue on mine, so make sure u check which apps are using background/battery usage a lot so you'd find out.
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing these issues:
Choppy scrolling on Facebook web.
Keyboard stuttering on Whatsapp, here on the forum, pretty much everywhere. You type a letter, nothing happens, you keep typing, then the last 4 typed pop up
I'v had this on all my stock EEA software versions including 1.1.4.
I dont have these problems. But i dont use Facebook.
Despite it happens everywhere for you i guess something is faulty with your device. I guess if you factory reset, the problem will go away. If not, maybe try installing super partition. If that also wont help, i would file a replacement.
Good luck.

Manby some app that constantly has an overlay over other apps? Because i think this is what happen when you have an active call, the overlay sets your refresh to 60hz.

The only issue I think could be AdGuard. Will have to uninstall it as some point and try. The choppyness is more than 60hz. It's like short freezes waiting for an object to load. Really really bad

That does not sound like 60hz yes. But AdGuard is a very good guess. If you are rooted AdAway is the better choice anyway.
