Editing the keyboard driver... - XPERIA X1 General

...is it possible?
Would like to add a few things (Like toggle wifi/bluetooth/ringer, copy, paste,...) by using "FN+..."

That would be a great mod. Coming from the TP, I love its keyboard layout. Ample shortcuts. It would be nice if the X1 to have assigned shortcuts.

you can install tools like AE button to create hardware key shortcuts

AeButton can't handle kombinations like "FN+..." And when set a key to toggle ringer/vibrate AEButton shows a Popup.
I want a quite solution, so AEButton is not what I'm lokking for.

Is AE Button like PQIIz? Great tool to use, but it seems to miss every now and then, and WinMo goes crazy.
Gives me the feeling that PQIIz runs in the background capturing the keyboard RPC calls before they hit the OS.. which isn't ideal.
I'd also like to edit the Keyboard driver directly, or..is there a way to modify the keyboard registry entries (that way skipping messy driver dll edits?)
Are there reg keys for each keyboard key?

Also a (minor) gripe with the X1, I love it, but the keyboard isn't quite as good as I first thought. The keys have very little travel and they're perhaps a little on the small size considering the size of the device. Plus, no shortcuts. None AT ALL ((

Never heard of the concept of 3rd Party apps? Have you ever bought a PC/Laptop and did use it without any Third Party App, only by editing registry tweaks???

Yeah. Just wondering if there is a solution, rather than 3rd party apps which have been tried and dusted.
This is especially true for key combinations which do not have a setting, e.g. FN+A; FN+S, FN+D, etc.

I find it quite strange that it doesn't to be honest. After all, the Tytn, Tilt, and Touch Pro all had them. Hopefully somone will find a way around this!

There aren't any registry keys for the keyboard-keys. I checked it.
Everything in in the driver-libary. I know which dll it is, and I know the key-code for every hardware-key, but then my skills end.

And I spose it's not as simple as taking one of those dlls. What we really need is an engineer of sorts.. reverse engineering is not an option..

Using the volume slider to scroll?

Hi,
I was messing with the beta of the mozilla web browser the other day (it is on the ftp site, but I wouldn't bother with it yet!) and I noticed that it let you use the volume slider to scroll the page like a scroll wheel.
Sadly in the normal apps like IE and email it just changes the volume.
Does anyone know if there is any way to make the slider act as a scroll wheel in these apps? It is a standard thing on many pocket pcs and would be wonderful if you could use it whilst reading emails.
Cheers
Marc
Yeah that would be really useful for email and webbrowsing (eg. Avantgo). Anybody know how? Might be a registry hack.
Yes there is a volume slider re-mapper. I use it on my Blue Angel. Got it off a thread on one of the forums here. Keep searching
Of course it's possible.
Here is a page where I explain how to do it but I'm sorry it's in french :?
If needed I will translate it... :?:

2 points : you've got to copy
- 'unmap_volume.exe' and 'AddHotkeys.exe' in the repertory /Windows/Start
- 'SimUp.exe' and 'SimDown.exe' in the repertory /Windows/Starting Menu/Programs
Thanks again to Mamaich
Works great! Thanks!!!
I just noticed that starting from 1.11 ROM it allows to remap up-down volume buttons for any purpose how great!
P.S. e.g. it works in Betaplayer, HaaliReader, Resco AudioRecorder
PHM Task Manager doesn't seem to kill the processes in order to uninstall AddHotkeys.exe....any suggestions?
You have to use activesync "explore" feature to change the extension to something else (eg. addhotkeys.ex1). Then, soft reset, and it will say that it can't be run. Then delete it!

Is there way to add a sound to the opening of the keyboard?

Well the topic says it all.
I want to add a sound to the opening and/or closing of the keyboard.
Is this possible?
Thanks
Any hacks for this? I suppose that the opening of the keyboard calls some kind of an event (since sliding it open changes the screen orientation) So can this same event call be used to assign a sound as well?
I also want to kno this and was going to ask right before I came 2 see this link...so please answer!
There are some really talented people here. I would have thought someone would have done this by now. But I assume, from lack of info, that this hasn't been considered before?
Would someone, who has the skill set to do this, consider looking into it and seeing if it is possible?
Thanks a million!!
Have a good one
Try this thread.....

That thread refers to the Herald, or Tmobile Wing. I found this thread and thats all I've been able to find for the Wizard or Tmobile MDA.
There may be a registry key that needs to be modified/added after installing the HTC Sliding Sounds application to make it 'active' for the Wizard.
Any ideas?
Im trying to figure it out too.. I dunno how to get it to initiate...
Need someone with the Herald (T-Mobile Wing) to help
Under HKEY\LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SlidingSound there are 2 keys 'ActiveSlidingSound' and 'SlidingSoundEffect', these are for setting which sound of the 3 available to use, I'm assuming.
Anyone out there know someone with a Herald or T-Mobile Wing that is willing to share what they have in this folder in their registry?? Maybe there's and EnableSound key or something to that effect that us Wizard users can add and we'll have a happy day!

I just checked mine and under SlidingSound, there are 3 folders... 0, 1, and 2. Each folder has 3 keys... Default, in, and out. "Default" is the name for the sounds (ex: Wind Chimes, Piano, and Xylophone), "in" is the location of the file used for when the keyboard slides in (ex: Slider0_in.wav), and the same applies to "out" for when the keyboard slides out (ex: Slider0_out.wav).
Also inside the SlidingSound folder are 2 more keys... ActiveSlidingSound and SlidingSoundEffect. ActiveSlidingSound refers to which sliding sound you want to use... so in this case it would be one of the 3 folders mentioned above (0,1, or 2). SlidingSoundEffect refers to whether or not you want the sliding sound on. (0 = off, 1 = on).
Hope this helps!
I installed the software that was made by JUVS....it does not work on my MDA.
Any other ideas? I had tried searching before I made this thread initially, and i had not seen the 2 that are discussed here. I apologize for having made a 3rd one.
Back on topic, I certainly hope this can be made to work. Any other ideas?
Thanks for all the info so far.
Later
this is a really cool idea, i would also like to know how to do it...

Unfortunately, I have the same keys on my MDA after installing the application for the SlidingSounds and it doesn't make sounds when I open the keyboard physically. I'm suspecting that the MDA is missing something, possibly a hardware switch (don't think so, though, cause it has to detect when the keyboard opens for landscape mode).
My guess is that this will not work on the MDA
Umfortunately I'm not a programmer, but I was thinking that the easiest way to get somethig like this to work would be to link the sound to play with the screen rotation instead of trying to get it to work when the keyboard is slid out which obviously isn't working anyway. It would play the sound if you rotated your screen manually, but I can't see why that would be a big deal. Maybe someone with a little programming knowledge could get this to work though.
I wanna keep this thread alive. SlidingSounds is something i wanna see work for wizards. It'll be cool if someone could craft a workaround or a new prog altogether.
Opening the keyboard is an event, shouldn't be hard to craft something to have it make a sound.
Any updates on this? I downloaded the app and it hasn't done anything, especially when messing with the registry. Thanks.
I've been working on tis as well but it seems that there is no way to adjust the registry to get it to work. I believe a app is gonna have to get the wizard to have this feature.
This would be so cool.. Alot of people have 'flip' style phones, and when they open them, they have some funny sounds. Would be great to have on the Wizard!
Anybody figured this out yet? I'm really sure it can be done.
im all about hacks for the wizard, but...
im assuming that you saw a wing and are trying to duplicate it...
WHY would you want it to do this?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!
same question for the menu pop sound?
those are the most annoying things i've seen on phone... well except for the default startup and shutdown sounds on all retail phones... when you turn off your phone, isnt because you're somewhere that you should be sure it wont be ringing/vibrating?
but on the other hand i still can't understand why people like to have the keys beep on their regular cell phones when they are txting...
sorry for the rant... i just don't get it

Maybe because we love the bells and whistles a gadget can make, it's all about your custom love that you want to have, not just everyone's universal preference. Some of us love to customize our phones to suit our personality, not just YOURS. Maybe these sounds grab attention of chicks, maybe this wallpaper makes us look cool in the sight of geeks. It's all personal prereference.
That's why I want keyboard Sliding Sounds to work. It's just one more thing that will grab the attention of people to see that, yes, I don't need a new phone every six months or so. I can make a new one using an old one by utilizing hacks.

Microphone accessory - button for Voice Command

If you push the button on the microphone which comes with the X1, it answers a call. If you push it twice it seems to call the last person you called.
Is there a way to use this button to invoke the Voice Command monitor?
Thanks
I found it easier just to re-direct the Soft Buttons!!

Yep, that's exactly what I have. Best set-up by far.
But when in the car, it would be easier to use the mic button, so I'd like to double up on Voice Command access.

If you "hold" the button, yr X1 will call the exe program specified in this registry. X1 stock rom does not comes w/ any VC program and you have to install one yrself. Of course, if you put in other program like Core player, it will be start if you hold the button.

Firstly, where have I been rude? Secondly, this has nothing to do with searching. I would challenge you to find a single thread on this subject anywhere else on the whole internet, started before this one. If you're going to criticise at least make some of the criticism partially relevant.
Jackleung, thanks for the solution, but in response to your manner, if you post an arbitrary reg key (a key which has no logical connection to the described solution) and which doesn't work if the instructions are followed (due to the wrong syntax), you should expect for that solution to be met with scepticism.
Coming bach to the original topic:

There are two different ways for the X1, to remap the soft keys. One is via the button settings in the windows settings, which is a global override which causes the buttons not to behave as softkeys anymore, and the other is via registry setting (have a look into the Wiki here), that maps specific applications to the softkeys while in today view - this way, the softkeys stay available in all other applications. I personally prefer the last approuch, because I don't like fingerprints on my screen.

No, this only works with mortplayer as you need the possibility to change the track via an exe file or at least an exe with a parameter (like in my script)...If you find a way to do this with the media panel (which i doubt you will ) we could have it...otherwise not.

Slide to unlock - But not S2U(2)

I'm looking for a slide-to-unlock solution for my X1. It should NOT come with any additional features (as S2U2 unfortunately does). I don't need to lock it for incoming calls, my phone software does this by itself. I only need an app which will lock the device on wakeup so I have to slide to unlock. Nothing more and nothing less. The best thing would be a Today-plugin.
One more question: If such a software does not exist, how hard would it be to create one? I am an experienced programmer in VB, JavaScript and PHP, so I don't think I would have to learn a lot. The question is just whether the process of locking/unlocking the phone and capturing the wakup-event etc. is actually easy to program. I don't want to write more than 50 lines of code for this and it has to work very well with that. Do you think this is possible?

As I don't know how screen slides are registered, I'm not 100% sure, but I can't imagine it'd need more than 100 lines.
Things you have to keep in mind that it has to be full-screen, always on top, locking hardware buttons as well etc.
If you manage to get this to work, I'd be very much obliged, as I'm looking for the exact same thing!
My advice: Make it semi-transparant and add an easy to modify image (png) that tells you to slide, which turns from red to green when you're set and then disappears.
I recommend making it fullscreen slide, the way lockmelite does, but then with the image added.
Nice to know that I'm not the only one looking for it
So you would propose a transparent fullscreen app? I would prefer using the Windows-lock, but I think once it's in, the only way to unlock is through the standard procedure. Can anyone confirm this? What other ways are there to lock the touchscreen? Is there a way to keep a transparent windows always on top? And an easy function to lock the hw-keys? Would you just set up a sort of hook and don't pass the keypress event? Is there a way to ensure that the event will not be passed on to other apps such as AEButtons? I really need some serious information on this before I start reading tutorials and organizing compilers etc.

Yeah, first monthly registration sucks and I don't like the software. I've had it installed twice and I'm not satisfied (R2A ROM though). Performance is bad, many mismatches because of this. Application always comes in to protect, for example at boot - but it's completely useless because you can blast it away if you know enough to install it in the first place. deifnitely a no-go for me.

I think it might be alot harder then you imagine. Programming in PHP is very, very easy. The best option is probably try to find one of the eary s2u2 cabs. Maybe A_C has some tips for you
For Dev... MSDN may have the answer
If you are looking for examples of how to program the slide yourself, there's a good sample on codeproject:
http://www.codeproject.com/KB/mobile/IPhoneUI.aspx
It's written in C#.NET but if you can program VB.NET you should be able to read through and vaguely understand what's going on.
The sample is an iPhone clone UI, not just the slide-to-unlock bit and I think the sample is QVGA. Either way, its better than having to work it all out from scratch ;o)
I've been meaning to write something similar but unfortunately life isn't giving up the time at the moment. If I get around to it I'll post it on XDA for everyone else to enjoy!

Damn, this program is nice!
I always have problems with S2U2 because it's slow, often incoming calls messes the screen so I'm not able to answer and sometimes the color depth of the screen changes to approx. 5 colors after unlocking and only a softreset helps.
PocketShield seems to be cut to the essential: locking and unlocking.
I'll try it a bit more

It does, but with not all of its features. PocketShield has 3 essential ways to unlock: light, slide and gestures.
X1 does not have a G-sensor, so gestures unlock won’t be available.
It does has a light sensor but apparently it is very difficult for 3rd apps to access it, so light unlock will neither be available.
Only “slide to unlock” will work. And due to this a special deal has been made for the Xperia community… You might be interested: http://www.pocketshield.net/Xperia

switch to efficiency! hw button+tsk mgr= bum!

Dear developers,
I have a kind of sickness called reading.
So I bought this lovely monster but despite I have installed the "friendly" showcase I have some problem in reading using my dictionary(slovoed)
To switch on the fly between album(I have scanned books..lovely) and slovoed, or slovoed and ubook/ereader/foxit reader/adobe/opera I have to push the windows hardware button and then tap on the application. Now the problem arise because I read always in my leisure and I have to follow the procedure outlined above every day thousand times!
I thought that could be really usefull if I could use the volume up and down as in windows xp we have alt+tab.
Ok I am aware that I could install a button hardware sw, but the problem would be that assigning to an hardware button the launch of the task manager, then I have to tap the application i am looking for. Anyway I would remember with opera is not pratical to use a classical showcase tsk manager because you have to tap before to obtain the external gui.. and furthermore it is not pratical at all do not use switch between the wi fi and roaming having the task manager inserted on default
thanks

Anyway I would remember with opera is not pratical to use a classical showcase tsk manager because you have to tap before to obtain the external gui.. and furthermore it is not pratical at all do not use switch between the wi fi and roaming having the task manager inserted on default
thanks

Hi, only a suggestion: LMT has a builtin taskswitcher. Use the onscreen gestures "DoubleArrowRight" and "DoubleArrowLeft" for "nextApp" and "previousApp" (alt+tab).

mmh thanks but it is a waste of time to write on the screen when I could switch with the apps with the volume, I think it is really pratical, and to be honest I can not figure out why none thought about that. I think everone would desire such a fast application, I mean one of the key issues using a pda has always been the lack of praticity in this kind of multitasking functions, but of course it is my idea

Erm.... His answer is NOT a waste of time. It is almost exactly what you have asked for and will 100% solve the problem that you have proposed. Can you please tell us why it HAS TO BE the volume buttons that flip applications? You told us that you want to switch between 2 different apps, back and forth, and the answer given above does exactly that. Please give a different suggestion as to the use of volume buttons, rather than an impractical one.

I apologize! I will try the software recommended. anyway I have monitored an other issue, when I switch applications especially with the notes, that I love to use jointly to swaype, unfortunately for some reason the keyboard change to the default one, that for me has less effectiveness than swype that instead it is really cool to write notes on the fly of the document I suppose to read.
cheers dear chap, good for you that do not need a dictionary to look up English words like me . Anyway I have to consider that also when I open my books scanned on album when I switch I have tracked some issues, being the page focused not the one I have formerly open, but the total thumbnails/previews.
OT btw I apologize also for my English, just one year of practice

I've just installed the free AE Button Plus and I note that there is an Alt Tab function which you could assign to a hardware button on the HD2.
Better yet, just assign each of your many programmes that you mentioned above (slovoed/ubook/ereader/foxit reader/adobe/opera) to different buttons and you can launch any programme you want instantly - directly. No need to cycle through Alt Tab to find the programme you want.
You may ask - HD2 does not have enough buttons for each and every programme I use? Well, AEBPlus recognises single button press as well as double, triple and long hold button presses meaning that each button can have up to 4 assigned actions. There are some restrictions to this though - see the above forum.
Hope this helps!
