Anyone using an Orange HD on T-Mobile (UK) - Touch HD General

Thinking about getting one and unlocking to use on my TMo WnW contract, is anyone doing this? If so, any problems?
Thx

I am using my Orange HD with a T-Mobile sim (after unlocking). Everything works fine.

excellent, thanks.

how easy is it to unlock?

very easy if you are willing to pay (IMEI unlock service)

what do they charge out of interest?

I paid around £15 for mine via totalgsm. They all tend to float around that price.

Price @ T-Mobile! Really want to buy! Your opinion please...

Hey everyone, I hope this is useful for anyone else looking for the HD2 and are currently in a long term contract.
On T-mobile's tariff list, there is the HTC HD2 on a 18 month contract @ £13.50 (plus the phone cost of £195.73)
£13.50 x 18 = £243
£243 + £195.73 = £438.73
Currently that is cheaper than buying it SIM Free, and I can pay a good half of it, over 18 months. Does this sound good, or am I missing something here?
I am currently on a 24 month Orange Contract with a HTC Touch HD (Blackstone), it only started in January and it is my main contract with 800 Minutes, Internet, etc, etc, So i won't be using the T-Mobile SIM.
1. Is this worth doing? Or is it too much hassle and I am better of getting it SIM free?
2. Will the Phone from T-Mobile be Unlocked? (Apparently O2's HD2 are), if not, Can it be unlocked?
3. Will I enjoy this phone? I use a Touch HD, with a custom ROM, can't fault it, love the phone, love the keyboard, I am a long time WinMo user.
Thanks very much.
Any assistance will be much appreciated!
T-Mobile phones are nearly always locked and various reports here from people who've got one directly from T-Mobile have said that the HD2 from them is locked.
The ones supplied by O2 are also locked.
Both are very lightly branded by software. Externally there is no operator branding.
So you must factor in the price of unlocking the handset (around €22) as well as the fact that you'll have a HD2 with a CID of a branded phone.
I'm sure it's possible to buy one sim-free and unbranded from various places for around the same price of £460 (price of T-Mobile inc. contract + unlock fee), but I suppose the 'interest-free' way of doing it may appeal to you.
I've also heard that the o2 ones are locked but o2 will happily unlock it for you, they even have a link on their site for doing so apparently..
I really appreciate your comments, its been really helpful.
I will keep looking around for a HD2 SIM Free.
Any unlocking solutions? Like the one you have referred to as being 22 euros?
I had a look at o2's website, I can't seem to find the HD2 on their website, even then, they are not tariffs which look like they will be cheaper in the long run, oh well.
Thanks very much again.

The problem is no one has actually had their HD2 unlocked by O2 for free so far. There's been no report of it happening on this forum at all. Someone from here said that they rang O2 and they said that they would unlock, but they'd have to wait 28 days and pay £15. Until it's been verified by a member on here that O2 will unlock via that link (and maybe even for free) it's just hearsay.
The link to get a HD2 unlocked for €22 is:

HD2 from Mobiles,co.uk are all unbranded and unlocked as far as I am aware. I got mine from them on Vodaphone, no branding , am using Orange sim in it at the moment......
I bought mine from http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/
Same price as from tmobile but unlocked and stock ROM. also 3 months free insurance.

that is exactly my story too lol, had mine delivered from mobiles.co.uk on monday on a voda contract, 30 quid a month and half price for 6 months, but using my orange sim as got 8 months left on the contract!
I had this thought the other day about buying with a contract, if it was about the same price, as a way of cheap financing (no interest!). But, I am in the U.S. I'm thinking they would probably flag this somehow when the billing address shows up as being in the U.S.? ... What do y'all think?

You can only get a contract with a carrier in your country of residence! They'd have a hard time recovering debt if you decided not to pay 3000 miles away lol

I work for O2 and we had an internal announcement saying that they would unlock contract phones for free, although as everyone has been told it can take 28 days to receive the instructions. They should only be charging you £15 if you want to unlock a pay as you go phone. If you don't mind the wait then it's probably worth doing it through the link. That said it's a service they only launched a few weeks ago, so i wouldn't be surprised if there are a few issues initially.
Getting back on topic i'd say you would be better off getting it from T-Mobile rather than O2 if you are looking for the cheapest deal.
I Got mine from www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk It is sim unlocked and a choice of networks. Best of all they pick up the phone when you try to contact them! unlike mobiles.co.uk and mobile phone direct. I Dont like 18 month contracts as new phones are released to often. My 12 month contract with vodafone cost £540 total.

Generally O2 phones purchased on contract are unlocked from the off. The only exception to this was the iPhone (until recently anyway).
I know some people on the O2 Simplicity (sim only rolling contract) tarriff who managed to buy the HD2 'outright' but they came locked to O2. How does that work for unlocking purposes - will O2 still unlock for free? I mean it's entirely possible that they can leave almost immediately after obtaining the unlock code.
you're correct pretty much all o2 phones on contract are unlocked apart from the iphone and palm pre. Not sure about those who got the HD2 outright from O2, i'd assume they would still unlock it for free as these people have paid to get the phone outright.
Ah this has been most helpful!
I can't wait to order now, I am about to soon put my Touch HD on ebay, shove my Orange SIM card in an old 8310 lol until the T-mobile HD2 arrives! Can't wait!
Thanks a lot everyone for your input! I hope I can get it unlocked soon after it arrives too.

[Q] A question for the T-mobile data plan.

I am considering getting a Samsung Vibrant these days. There is one thing that bother me a lot.
I am a student from China. And I am getting a prepaid SIM from T-mobile without any kind of plan right now for the price reason.
I was wondering if I got a unlocked Samsung Vibrant from eBay and use it on the T-mobile network, do I have to pay for the data plan?
The thing is I owned a AT&T Fuze before and everything works fine on the T-mobile network except for the 3G. That's okay for me cuz I don't use 3G anyway. But there is one time that my friend who is on AT&T network borrow my Fuze for couple days, and AT&T just added the data plan for it automatically. My friend try to call the staff in AT&T and they said that since HTC Fuze is a smart phone from AT&T, it require a data plan so he cannot cancel it. And they can tell when he insert the SIM card and AT&T will get the IMEI from him automatically.
I just wondering will the same thing happen in T-mobile? 30$/month is way to much for me.
BTW, there is another question for you guys. There is a lot of unlocked Galaxy S on eBay, which is nice. I was wondering how they get it unlocked? Can I get them unlocked right in the "carrier shop"? Or there is other ways that I can get the unlocked code?
Thx you guys anyway for answering these questions. BIG HAPPY FACE
You might have to spoof the IMEI, you're in the same boat as my friend. He wants to use his old Sidekick plan with the phone but since's it's not a Sidekick he can't use the data at all because they know he's using a smart phone. Discussing IMEI's is not usually allowed on xda because it's illegal in some countries. I think that's your only solution though.
Wait a few months until the phone is more popular and you'll be able to easily find ways to spoof the IMEI. So far I have found none.
you have to have the android web spoofed or not. Without it TMO will lock you out of the market and mms

as long as you use t mobile prepaid, you won't be charged for a data plan.
Why do you want to buy those expensive vibrants from ebay? I'd rather buy it from tmobile with 2 year contract, then cancel the plan and pay the ETF.
You can try to ask a t mobile online csr for the unlock code. Just tell him you will travel outside of us.

He said he is a student from china so I assume he does not have a SS# and without one he cannot sign up for a contract.
The best thing you can do OP is buy a Galaxy S i9000 off ebay. Tmobile only has the IMEI for the vibrants. That way you can pop your sim into the international version and they wont know.
Or get a sim card from mysimplemobile.com $60 a month for unlimited everything and it uses tmobile service. That is what I switched to and it works with my vibrant without an unlock.

Yup. You are right. I don't have the SSN right now so it's difficult for me to sign a contract.
The international version which is the i9000 is not bad. But I notice the price for the international version are significantly more expensive than the vibrant, for like 100-200$.
Anyway, thx for the suggestions.

Im using the vibrant on tmo after upgrade. you can go online and remove the service. I paid for one month and canceled. you just change the type of phone to one not requiring android data plan ie a non android phone and it will let you remove it. I'm using it purely on wifi. just remember you will need it unlocked or w/ 3g to activate it initially or after wipe.

Ahh, Hmmm I paid the full 500 and today is the last day I can return mine. How much was the termination fee out of curiosity?
Another question, I have been using mine prepaid for almost a month now and TMO hasn't given me any trouble with it. (Aside from the reps in the store when I went to buy it).
Do you think I should bother to spoof my IMEI? Is that something that can get a fellow into trouble in this paranoid new world?
From what I've read everywhere else, it seems that TMO needs your business and won't give you any trouble using a prepaid sim in the phone. Whose to say that won't change in the future though.

You can usually get a contract from T-mob with your passport and your F1 student visa (assuming you're on a F1). You'll have to wait for about an hour in order for them to get approval from headquarters, but it works fine. Got my Vibrant that way, and while the charges are high at least you get unlimited data (as in really unlimited), so watching videos, listening to pandora and all that is a non-brainer..

That's the thing I don't understand. I paid $199 for my Vibrant on a 2-year contract. I have a $200 ETF, which means that I can cancel, and get the phone for $400. For a non-contract, I would have paid the full $500.
So what one can do is use the Even More for one month (which is +$10 from the Even More Plus). Then cancel, pay the ETF, and move to the same Even More Plus plan. Which would mean you would get no contract for $400.
Am I missing something?

is this really possible? amazon currently has the vibrant for $0.01 with a new contract. so in theory, one could sign a new contract, cancel and pay the ETF of $200, and get the phone for $200.01?? then sign up for an even more plus plan with no contract? (i also thought EM was $20/month more than EM+)
any input would be appreciated. this sounds too good to be true
You can buy a Vibrant and use it on prepaid you are just going to pay $500 for the phone. T-Mobile doesn't care they wont and can't charge you extra.
I would recommend checking out flexpay, you can get a monthly plan and get data if you want it. If not go with prepaid $15 a month gives you unlimited SMS and $0.10 a minute and just use wifi when you need data.
One last thing is do not recommend imei spoofing as its illegal here.

If you cancel with amazon within 6 months you pay an added 250$ ETF to them. So it would be 450$ all day.
I got mine from costco for $99 and canceled for 200$ after ETF. So $300 total. You also get a free cheap case car charger and bluetooth from them. Oh and no activation fee.

nice. i'll look into something like this. i wonder if best buy / radioshack / car toys also have ETF fees of their own... (no costco membership for me)
I am kinda confused by this.
So I am in a stick situation here.
My parents have a family plan and I bought a Vibrant adding onto their Even More plan, which requires the $5 add a line and also $30 data plan. But I kinda think I don't really need data plan/3G cuz I am mostly home and don't quite use 3G unless I am not home, which isn't too often. $30 is a little money wasting, so I was thinking of just getting my phone without contract by paying $500 and just adding to my parents' Even More plan without data plan to save money.
But since I got my phone from Costco for $200 (when did this $99 deal start? I got mine a week ago...), does that mean I can just cancel and save money instead?
Important question though: Is it really true that there is no Android Market access without Tmo smartphone data plan? Why is this so? If so, is there any way of my getting away with it in my case?
Thanks,
FYI, if you have an F1 visa or any student visa you can do a contact with T-Mobile with no deposit and no ss#. This is something relatively new to t-mo. Just go to any corporate store location and they should be able to set it up for you. It takes about 45 minutes to process. That is the only down side.

Desire HD - UK Handset only options?

Hi,
Looking for a Desire HD as my first Android Handset; jumping the iPhone ship because I'll be honest, I'm getting bored with how closed it is. So I'm looking for a handset only Desire HD, but not the official SIM free supplied on Amazon, play etc; would prefer a network locked Vodafone UK handset. Has anyone found anywhere cheaper for such a handset? (Except eBay, I really don't trust it).
Thanks in advance.
pretty sure the only way to get just the handset is to buy it outright and simfree.
the alternative is to go on a plan and pay for the handset as part of the plan
im really not to sure what you are asking you cannot buy a 'locked' handset cheaper you can only get it sim free or on plan
I was more thinking along the lines of a pay as you go handset, but not to worry.

i dont think high end handsets are usually offered as a payg or prepaid well at least thats the case here in australia.
i use prepaid but i just buy simfree when its time to upgrade you can generally sell the handset then add another couple hundred and get the new one

My two local stores wouldn't sell it on PAYG only on contract as they had limited stock despite advertising it in the store display as available on PAYG. Another store about 30 miles away had plenty of stock and had no issues selling it without a contract.
P4U at the MetroCentre refused to sell me one without a contract, CPW 15 feet away from it were willing to sell theirs @ £495 - more than I wanted to part with so I've took out a contract anyway direct with Vodafone. Roll on delivery time.
I went in 11 phone shops in Norwich, Carphone Warehouse was the only one of them to have ANY in stock (they had 2) and would ONLY sell on contract.
Now i'm stuck in an 18 month contract as I couldn't wait any longer I wanted to buy it sim-free but had no other choice....but wait....f that...

ATT SGH-i467 Unlock Code

So Yesterday, i was reading about unlocking the ATT Note 8.0 with LTE , i decided to purchase a 1 day Internet on the tablet, so that i may get a phone number and other ATT credentials so that i may unlock it to be used for T-mobile, Turns out that i was denied because i have to be with ATT for a least 6 months ....Total BS
.....I wish i could just unlock it, Debrand , Debloat , Modified and upgrade this wonderful piece of Samsung sexiness already....its a little weird that no one at the wonderful XDA has been able to do this to the ATT variant of the Samsung Note 8.0
unless....im not looking hard enough....
Anyways just a heads up to the people looking to unlock the device using the means of ATT
just FYI i notice the screen glich where it becomes unresponsive for a second, and my wifi isnt 100 percent great.
Has anyone tried one of the unlocking websites? FastGSM.com ?
anyways i havent posted on this website since my t-mobile HTC HD2...yea its been a long ass time...im actually willing to pay someone to make this into a fully functional phone
i Just purchased the unlock code by giving them my IMEI # to FASTGSM.com i will report back if everything went well.....it was $29...

There's no reason it shouldn't. I have been thinking about unlocking to do this, but think I just discovered a plan from AT&T that I use for PAYG. My old options used to be $15 for 300MB over 30 days or $30 for 3GB over 30 days. The last time I signed up, it offered me a $25 for 1GB over 90 day plan. Not I realize that isn't free like T-Mob, but this works for me and avoids me having to pay to unlock and avoid the hassle. Plus, for where I go, the AT&T network is a bit better for me. I don't think that I've seen this plan advertised, has anyone else?

Before I called or searched online anywhere I just called AT&T. They gave it to me without any questions.
I can remote unlock it I think through teamviwer. I am not too familiar with teamviewer but if I can have access to the port the tablet is plugged in to I don't mind remotely reading the code for you.
unlock
my english is very bad and i sorry about this.
i buying sgh-i467 with lock for AT&T.
i from Russia and i need help. If yours know how unlock this device without money, help me please...
Thank you very much!
I too would like to know if it has been confirmed.. about TMobile
no contract
free
200mb per month
and what does it cost to go over?
Right now.. I have a NOTE3 on ATT.. 3GB plan.
I can tether.. and/or move my ATT Sim card to the NOTE8 and it works.
if I unlock... will the ATT sim still work? access my current account data plan?

I'm a current AT&T customer with many devices active through them... I bought my i467 from AT&T and paid it off... eventually I cancelled my data plan on my i467 and just used it as WiFi tablet for a while. After having it unlocked, I again used it on the AT&T data plan for a few months and then signed up for the free data plan from t-mobile and only had to pay $10 to purchase a Sim card from them and sign up on the free 200mb plan. Have not had to pay anything since then. After activating the new t-mobile plan, I then cancelled the AT&T data plan for the tablet.
I just called Tmobile.. to get more details on the 200mb free a month.
the rep said I have to have:
1. a regular plan first to add a free tablet a month.
or
2. get one of THEIR tmobile tablets.
I thought it I could...
stay on my ATT plan for my smartphone.
just do ONLY.. a no-contract.. free 200mb data plan for my tablet.
has anyone... just done the Free tablet data... on note8 or NON tmobile tablet??
