How to Change Bands - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 ROM Development

I've got a problem with the Blue Angel.
It seems to be default stuck on 900/1800 band and the provider I use is on 850/1900 and idea on how to default it to 850/1900 so I don't have to keep searching? I am running Radio Rom 1.15 and WM6 V3.02 W141 Is there a program anywhere I can dl to switch bands manually?

I think SKTools allows you to select bands. I can't remember exactly as I haven't used that in a very long time, but I do think it had that option. Give it a shot and you may be successful!

i-mate PPC GSM Band

Hey folks,
Is there a utility/hack that allows you to change the GSM band from 900/1800 to just search the 1900 band? Since upping to 1.72 my radio always locks onto the 900 band and stays there for ages before locking onto my operator (on the 1900 band). I have to have at least 80% signal level. I know that 900 generally is a stronger signal (the other operator is always at least 10-20% over my operator), so thats why [note: I cannot roam with the other operator].. I know the new iPaq seems to have a band select, and my Treo 600 does too....
HTC do you have a util?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Art
under my phone settings i can choose network and set pref network and all kind of stuff like that

i really doubt that HTC hang around this site you i think that
any questions you want to aim at HTC have to be mailed to them
Try this: go to phone, tools, options, network, network selection and put it in Manual, select your network and OK.
Tell us if it works well thus.
If it dont work, you can install old radio version.
Thanks folks for the replies.. That's actually how I have it set now (manual on my operator), but for some reason when you turn the radio on it locks on to the 900 band and just sits there.. If I walk around until a strong enough signal is obtained from my operator it'll lock on; but as you can imagine this is really annoying.
Thanks again for your pointers. If I find anything out I'll let you know, as I've also shot an e-mail to Carrier Devices; and will shoot something directly at HTC.
I may also drop down to Radio 1.10; but I hate having to re-install all my software again..
You can make backup, install old radio version and make restore.

1800 mhz GSM Band Missing

I am planning on going to a GSM 1800 country soon but I only have GSM 900 & 1900 (what i'm on now) listed as choices. Is that because of my current SIM card or is there a problem with my phone?
Thanks,
Daniel
Here a file to enable the band selection.
How do I run this?
It worked-
Thanks!!
I go to the States in August. Work the Magician in the USA ?
Thanks
Depends but most probably:
If you are going to be roaming with your current SIM card then find out which network you will be roaming on- if it's T-Mobile you will be fine because all the Magicians can work on he 1900mhz band- which T-mobile is. Cingular/ATT mostly is 1900mhz also but some rural areas operate on the 850mhz band- either way you should be fine, but find out who's service you will be on to be sure.

Thanks !
I use Proximus from belgium.
by the way, how u know gsm 1800 band missing? how u check it?
in the phone: Tools | Options and the tab Band is missing.
I have the band option, but I can only choose:
GSM 900 (europe)
GSM 1900 (North America)
Even after running the program in the second post.

Hrb, what kind of Magician do you have?
I'm talking about a T-Mobile MDA Compact with a standard Rom WWE 1.10
And as told: I do have the Band Tab, but I can only select:
GSM 900 (Europe)
GSM 1900 (North America)
And Cong and Castiwo, have you ran the program and softreset the Magician?
I don't know how to run the program, that is the problem

Topaz does not work in US 3G network?

I got the Topaz from Europe, and I tried several ROMs but I just can't get it connected to the US 3G network. I heard the band is different, but is there any way that could possibly solve this problem?
Thanks so much in advance.
Also, is there a "2G" version of Topaz? If so, how can I tell if my phone is 3G or not?
No way to make it work, although if you are on att, you may get hsdpa in the few areas that actually have it. not sure what you mean by 2G, but it should connect to EDGE just fine

Take a look a the band located in your phone's option section. 3G would work if UMTS is 850, 1900 coupled with WCDMA

Looking for 6.5 ROM (WWE or GER) UMTS(!)

Hello,
I can't seem to find a 6.5 ROM in English or German that supports UMTS.
Am I blind or is there a reason?
TIA!

this is what Palm Treo supports
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
GPRS Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 - 48 kbps
EDGE Yes
3G HSDPA
You wrote:
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
3G HSDPA
And so it does support UMTS. I use a UMTS ONLY carrier in Austria (HUT 3) and it works fine with the stock ROM.
So something can't be right with what you wrote.

im sorry i actually don't know what im talking about i thought i did but actually i don't sorry
As far as I can tell every ROM here supports UMTS, you might however need to turn it on in the settings (Phone settings, "Band", and UMTS/auto).
Just a word of caution concerning custom ROMs... I'm probably going back to the stock OEM rom due to data-connection issues with my current carrier (A1/bob in Austria) ... and it seems to be ROM-related. (Only encrypted connections work without problems, unencrypted e.g. http-traffic only works every now and then. payed support couldn't help either and told me it must be phone-related, which I'm inclined to believe.)
If all you need is a non-german/english ROM, you'll find it her as well as at the ppcgeeks forum.
I just thought it was a bit strange that all the ROM cooks add the extra GSM Tag up front. If they also support UMTS Band why call it a GSM ROM?
Is there something I'm not getting?

we write that so people that have CDMA Treo Pro don't flash that ROM because its only made for Phones that use a SIM
ok super.
Thank you very much. I think now I get it. Since wie only have SIM Phones here in Austria I really didn't get is. Funny thing is, I sell Cell phones for a living...bit embarrassing.
thanks!

np glad i could help CDMA isn't really used a lot in most countries like UK and i think GSM is more convenient because all you have to do is change Sim's to use it on another carrier compared to CDMA which they have to flash there phones to change carriers
UMTS = GSM
Hey guys.
UMTS is based on GSM technology, so if you flash the phone with a GSM ROM, you'll be sweet.
Here in Oz, I've used my 3G UMTS-based Treo Pro on the Hutchison 3 Network with a GSM rom flashed on it.. No issues with calls / data connectivity.
There's plenty of GSM ROMs lying around for the Treo Pro
GSM ROM 6.5 in German
there is a WM6.5.3 ROM für GSM !!!!! (not CDMA) look the Thread
"WinMo6.5 GSM Build 21884. Build date: 2010-8-26 3 Attachment(s)" vom mort4z i also use his ROM - it works quite great.
GSM mean european standard and includes UMTS/HSDPA. never use a cdma ROM for a "european GSM Palm Treo Pro".
i just dumped my original 6.1 Rom for mort4z - he will extract the German language an maybe we get a 6.5.3 Build 21884 version in German the next days.
greetings from Austria

[Q] Please help.

Hi guys.
I got a highly noobish and probably stupid question about my Nexus One.
Using the *#*#4636#*#* / phone information / network type: EDGE.
My wife's wildfire shows HSDPA and we ure under the same operator.
So, its a phone problem? It doesnt support HSDPA? If so, how to change that?
I understand there are 2 versions of Nexus One, how to figure out which one I have?
Thanks in advance!
There are 2 versions of the Nexus 1 that are out. One that works with tmobile 3g and one that works with at&t 3g. If you use the tmobile version with at&t you will only be able to get EDGE.
How long have you had your N1? Did you buy it new or used? Who is your provider?

Thank you for your answer. Really fast.
I live in Colombia, South America. My provider is movistar.
I have the nexus about 6 months ago. Rooted. Running CM nightlies.
What do you say about the result on *#*#4636#*#*??
Thanks again.
movistar uses 2100mhz for hsdpa in colombia correct? Both the wildfire and nexus one should support 2100mhz no matter what version you have, so you should be able to get it on both phones if it's available. The only reason maybe you wouldn't is that you have the "Use only 2G networks" option enabled?
Something else, in the data icon of the notification bar does it say the same thing as it does on the phone information screen, or do they both indicate edge?

2G Networks only unchecked.
Indicate Edge in notification bar and in phone information (4636).
Is there a way to change or fix this thing out?
Thank you.

This is true on both phones? But it is only the wildfire that says hsdpa in phone information?
In phone information, scroll down a bit to the drop down box of network types above "Turn off radio". What is this setting?

Wildfire: WCDMA preferred.
Nexus: WCDMA preferred.
Set both to GSM only. After a minute, if the wildfire still says hsdpa then it is likely a firmware issue where the connection information is permanately set to "hsdpa" or it doesn't update as it should. Have you traveled into an hsdpa service area recently?
Do you think changing the radio band may work? I didnt see any checked right now... in any of the phones...

After a while the wildfire was unable to coneect via data connection when I put GSM only.
When changing to GSM only, the nexus keeps showing E.
The radio band should auto-adjust based on what is available. I don't know that you can specify a certain radio band in android.
The wildfire has "E" in the notification bar at all times, correct?

No, the wildfire has H, the Nexus E.
movistar does not use the same bands for gsm and hsdpa anyway, this is a strange issue but I suspect it is simply a firmware issue
Edit: Maybe what I read was wrong. Do you know for sure what your provider uses for hsdpa in your area?
One version of the nexus one uses 850/1900/2100 and the other uses 900/1700/2100 for hsdpa, while the wildfire uses 900/2100. But they both have 850/900/1800/1900 for gsm. I didn't think 900mhz was used in South America?

Let me ask first. If the phone shows H not necessarily theres HDSPA? Is what you mean?
They claim to offer 3.5g. Edge is 3g? Hsdpa is 3.5g?
The only thing I can think of is that your provider is using 900mhz for hsdpa and you have the wrong version of the nexus so you will not be able to use that band. Or, you have gsm 900 available and not hsdpa at all and the wildfire is interpreting gsm as hsdpa. Download a speedtest app and see if the connection speed on the two phones is actually any different.

How can I know?
I know, the other carrier claims hsdpa, COMCEL is the name of the operator.
But if my phone is configured to EDGE, what can I do then?
I'm sorry this issue is so confusing. I read conflicting information about what bands Movistar is using for gsm and hsdpa in your country. The operator name in the notification bar is Movistar, correct? If it is, the wildfire can not be using COMCEL.

Yes. Movistar. But actually comcel haves better network and services here, so Im trhing to find out ic I can improve my browsing experience in terms of speed...
