Anyone have any comments based on experience with TomTom 6 and ALK's CoPilot 7
http://www.alk.com/press/releases/pr_021207.asp
Thanks for your comments.
I used CoPilot 6 before my x7500 arrived with TomTom. I like TomTom better.
Probably won't have a chance to use CoPilot 7 unless I get it as an upgrade for my girlfriends Universal, where I've not installed CoPilot 6. If I upgrade, which I may, I'll post the results.
CoPilot Live | Pocket PC 7 is out in 2 weeks.
This is vaguely relevant but I coulnd't find a better place to put it. According to CoPilot sales rep, it will be out within the next 2 weeks. They are taking pre-order now.
-----------------
Thank you for your interest in CoPilot products. To reserve your upgrade to version 7 please call the number listed below. It will be released within the next two weeks. We are taking pre orders right now.

There is no comparison between CP6 and 7.
7 is so much better and IMHO much better than TT
Due to NDA I cant say much but I believ e it's worth waiting for but 2 weeks? I think that's a bit ambitious.
It is now released http://www.alk.com/copilot/

Before I order, does anyone know if it is compatible with RealVGA in 96dpi mode?
Allegedly Copilot 6 Live is VGA compatible according to Alk website, but it doesn't work well on my PK3.0 flashed device. The map sort of works, but all the status information at the bottom of the screen is missing, and the menus are hard to follow.
It's marginally better if you install from CD rather than from the microsd card, but it still isn't fully functional.

I'll answer my own question - It's miles better. VGA mode actually works now.
There is currently a problem for me using the Live features, but ALK are aware of them and are working on them.
There was also a problem for me that I had bought a 2 year traffic subscription through T-Mobile and neither T-Mobile nor ALK would initially accept ownership of making this work. Initially ALK said that they saw no reason why they should honour the traffic subscription on CoPilot7 when it was originally bought for CoPilot6 from ALK through T-Mobile. However, as a gesture of goodwill they agreed to give me a half price upgrade on the traffic subscription.
The improvements are such that I think this is worth it.
internet access?
Does co-pilot 7 require internet/data access?
as far as i understand, tomtom6 you have preloaded maps on your sd card....does co-pilot work the same way?
copilot on experia x1
ive got copilot 7 running on sony experia X1, tried tomtom 7 on it and really didnt like the look of tomtom so in my opinion copilot wins hands down..... and oh, to get either tomtom or copilot to work flawlessly you need to disable assisted GPS............
Too bad they gave up Text To Speech on version 7! Otherwise, it would have been the best Navigation software ever! I am not surprised though. "We aim for mediocrity" is the common slogan for American businesses nowadays.
Yesterday Tomtom released the new navigator for the Diamond pro, it seems to be even a newer edition than the version 8, anybody now or this version will work on a diamond (not beeing a pro)

where did you read it?
found a dutch reference
http://tweakers.net/nieuws/55296/tomtom-bundelt-nieuwe-navigator-met-htc-touch-pro.html
it would be available mid september on the dutch market it seems
Uhh this is a very nice news
Is there a dutch person here who can tell what exactly is mentioned in the text above? Will it even be the Navigator 8 or just a newer Navigator 7 version? Would be very interessting to know.
Well, I think that news is about "TomTom 7", as it mentions the successor to TomTom 6 is coming out. Do note that TT7 was not always preinstalled on the Diamond stock NLD ROMs. The article goes on to describe how TT7 will only be available in a bundle with the Touch Pro, and not as a seperate SD-software package. The comments include a lot of whining early adopters who then go into a discussion about that it's all HTC's fault and, despite that the fact they know early adopters always have to suffer this kind of stuff, that TomTom is to blame for all those people downloading TT7 now. Basically, they're acting pathetic and trying to justify their pirating.

Heh, lets just hope they come with TT8 before the TT7 cards are considered ancient. I think I like TT7 for now.

You're right
I really do like TT7, I tried iGo8 but nothing compares to the good old TomTom But the campatibility with the new maps is the point which really makes me hope they will release TT8 in the near future...
where are the maps tt8 but there aren´t yet tt8 for PDA http://www.foro-elrincondedey.com/descargas-mapas-v-8/279-coleccion-mapas-v8.html
i think the maps V8 work on TT7
Can anyone confirm if BBCiPlayer is compatible with Opera 9.5.
I'm a Nokia n95 8gb user, soon to return to WM when Expansys deliver my early Christmas/late birthday present.
Wouldnt it be soo cool to watch bbc iplayer on this baby!!
Same Here
I am returning back to my WM. I had an iPhone, used for two weeks but did not like it, too complicated, so gone for sale.. now I am returning to my WM and just order my new Touch HD from expansys today. Window mobile are much easy to use and simply the best. I like to see HTC add more useful features on this new Touch HD before final release.
Waiting Time
Thats great. I hope you don't have to wait too long being you just preordered recently.
I know many at xda-dev forum ( including myself ) and elsewhere have been on that one form of preordering list since the phone was made official.
I hope Expansys don't keep everyone waiting too long after they get stock.
not bothered about it running on the touch to be honest (have a kaiser)
but i'm surprised theres little talk about getting iplayer working properly on windows mobile in general .
i've heard that opera and flash works, but i cant get it working at all
can anyone (surely someone in the know must do) confirm/deny if it is at all possible?

Yes. I Second that. iPlayer is as much a killer app to me as youtube.
Am I the only one who is keen to use their mobile to watch the BEEB ?
+1
Yeah I'm massive I Player fan. I used to listen to 5Live every morning in the bathroom with my Wizard and Wifi. I think the Beeb changed something as it suddenly stopped working with Realplayer 1.
I am surprised its taking this long to get a solution for WM for I player. I have just moved to a Diamond and will move to a Touch HD later next year.
I hope anyone doing searches for IPhone apps comes across our discussions about an I-Player... !
I believe the HD has crossed the seas and is now in the UK, well the preview batch anyways..
Could anyone that has the HD confirm if it works with the BEEB ??

Just reviewing stock status across a number of suppliers - seems the release date in the UK has been brought forward to the 7th November - maybe even sooner! Both Play and Expansys have revised "ready to ship" dates?
.
I have spoken to a friend at orange who says they have sHD stock arriving today for sale on Monday 3rd. He has be saying this all week and is a very reliable source.

I have a HD on order from Handtec.com and should have it on the 12th (or earlier) - I already have the Raphael and have been testing on a regular basis with Opera 9.5 and the latest Flash release - there was some improvement but its still not actually showing the streaming video?
As far as I'm aware there is still no i-Player codec for either Core Player or Windows Media Player. I think that the issue is one for the BBC to resolve rather than a hardware problem (i.e. once it works it will work on all Win Mob Pro phones that can show video?)
So..... unless HTC have a new Opera version just for the HD (Possible) or have negotiated with the BBC (As Apple have - Unlikely???) to allow the content only on the HD then I think we'll have to wait for the BBC (Aunty for the older Brits on here) to step up and provide either a codec or dedicated mobile player?
Hope my thoughts provide some help and guidance - and maybe spark some more debate?
.
I've been trying for some hours today to get the streams from BBC Mobile working with little success.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/index.shtml
If I look at BBC mobile on my X7500 using explorer there is a link showing "Watch Live TV" I can then click on a channel which downloads a link and then launches Coreplayer which immediately complains that it can't do anything with it.
Anybody else had any joy?
Cheers
Matthew

My Kaiser tells me that the content is only available in the UK but my computer through the same router is fine
why is this ????
SlashGear.com mentions content from the BBC iPlayer.
http://www.slashgear.com/htc-touch-hd-video-demo-and-qa-3121040/
"Q. Can the Touch HD’s Opera browser play content from BBC iPlayer, Hulu or other streaming sites?
A. No. For instance, the iPlayer site loadsbut the streaming video component does not. There is a streaming video app, separate from the YouTube player, but that requires a specific url to load".

Oh of course - BBC NEWS 24 is a UK only channel as it's paid by us TV License payers. And no one in the UK on this forum seems to have the Touch HD so it wouldn't work.
D'oh !
I think it's just a matter of time before BBC iPlayer works on the Touch HD. They have expanded support for many smartphones and PMP's.
The issue from the BBC's point of view is simply demand - making Iplayer available for platforms like the ipod touch and Iphone is a no brainer since there are huge numbers of those devices in the UK, and their users are very much focussed on video and multimedia. With Windows Mobile the case isn't quite so clear - its users are in much smaller numbers for one, and many - perhaps the greater majority - are simply business users with no desire to watch TV on their mobile, and quite possibly inadequate hardware for the task in any case (since the vast majority of WinMo handsets are not high resolution, big screen devices like the HD). Realistically, the HD alone is not going to significantly advance the cause.
While I agree with you, it would be nice if the BBC used an open standard so any platform could watch their shows. Nothing to do with the HD except more devices like this will mean maybe it will become an issue.

Sure, but they have to protect their copyright first and foremost - and ensure it's only license fee payers in the UK who get the benefit - so whatever platforms they support can't be too open.
Well according to this guy the 4G is out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=472886
Now i'm just wondering if this is confirmed as TF3D from this would work great on the X1 (Working Landscape w00t!)
I've Googled and only seen pre-orders at the moment...any Russian XDA'ers out their can confirm?

All Moscow retail shops are full of HTC 4G.
But I know very good that's not pure HTC, VERY big part of software developed by Russian Scartel (with big chance that it's only Russian).
I could confirm that Scartel's software works in both modes - landscape and portrait (with orientation sensor), I saw it in September 2008 already.
I could try to get sample for a day but I'm not sure about firmware donwload procedure - I can be not similar to other HTC devices.

Thanks for the info Karlson
I'm not a programmer so I've no idea how difficult it would be to port the TFL3D from this to the X1....wondering if any of the hackers here could enlighten us?
HTC just announced the Hero in a press conference in Hong Kong today. Given the support of traditional Chinese interface and an incredibly smooth interface, it is very likely that these demo Heroes are running the future firmware that Slashgear reported would be available for download very soon.
Take a look at the series of videos below (they are not taken by me, I didn't attend the event):
Look at how smooth it is when scrolling through the contacts:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CABaEfQNqL0
Browser:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eoTT74obss
Smoothly moving between different home screens, no lag at all:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcwbBjEsyxg
Some more:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtsPVXJyLtA
Hero will be on sale in Hong Kong in early September. More or less coincide with the reported timing of the availability of the firmware update(s).
Update:
According to this website
http://www.eprice.com.hk/mobile/talk/?prod_id=3402&tid=29166
the camera app now supports iPhone 3GS' style Tap to Focus function, and adjustable ISO (up to ISO 800)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXemcWjMYeQ
Does this update improve video because like all HTC devices its crap
Maybe you're not doing it properly. Videos encoded for iPod Touch profiles work perfectly on my Hero.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcwbBjEsyxg
And it seems they have improved the flash support as well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrRmZCuPjuo
BTW when is this coming to INDIA!! OMNIA is already launched here!!
Definitely MUCH smoother. If you look at how fast the Messages and Mail widgets refresh, you'd see that this firmware works a lot smoother and faster. That said, it does leave me wondering if it will suffer from a slowdown after a day of usage.

That video was dated August 12 and the interface was in English, it was NOT running the Hong Kong version of the Hero.
BTW, double clicking the flash element on a website to enable full screen flash typically speed up flash performance a lot, because it enable the phone to ignore other parts of the website.
Are you saying that the HK version of Hero does not have English? I find that a bit hard to believe

It has. But all the Heroes in that press event were set to the Chinese interface (if you want to waste your time saying that someone switched it back to English, go ahead). The date of the video shows that it wasn't the HK version (if you want to argue that that could be a leaked version, go ahead).
So what's the conclusion? The HK firmware is just BLISTERING quick but no idea if Flash is faster?
According to this reviewer who attended the event and talked to people from HTC:
http://www.eprice.com.hk/mobile/talk/?prod_id=3402&tid=29166

He mentioned that HTC Hero support Flash Lite 3.0, but the performance was not that good when playing youtube video on its desktop website (i.e. not using the youtube app). HTC response was that the version of Flash Lite provided by Adobe for cell phone is not very good, and the flash support is mainly for displaying flash animation on websites.

cheers for the tip, did a couple of conversions for ipod touch in Xilisoft and the video is indeed excellent now. No stuttering
hmmm... I tried HandBrake and the encoded video using the iPhone/iPod Touch preset looked great, gave a far smaller file than I had previously, but still stuttered.
Using the stock 2GB card.
doesnt seem like it really faster than my hero mines scrolls as fast as that one
is there any leak of this firmware, there but be leaks somewhere if they allready have them built on the phones...
Holy crap that is looking smooooooth and faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast. Can't wait to install this onto my Hero.
EDIT: Would have liked to see the software keyboard in action though - one of my biggest gripes is the intermittent keyboard lag/keystroke delay
BTW, the hardware specification of the HK version Hero is the same as the European ones. According to the user manual available on HTC HK website, the product ID is still HERO100 (North America GSM Hero is Hero130, CDMA Hero is HERO200). So once the HK version is released (Sept 1) and someone dumped the ROM it, it can be installed on current Hero without too much problem. Of course it would be much easier if HTC releases the firmware update on the website.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hK8c9Bs581I here's a clip of how smooth video play back is now. I really hope they improve the format compatability to include avi and wmv.
maybe thats a custom made video meant to be seen by the customers only and make them feel that the video play back is good...anyway if this is actually working under the update then i really wish for it to come tomm. as promised...but promises are meant to be broken! fingers crossed!
BTW aany info when HTC is launching hero in INDIA?? its released in hong kong now..so it shud be coming soon here as well...but no date!
I have to agree with the person that said the smoothness isn't mindblowingly better in that version. My Hero is about as smooth if I wait for the clock animation to finish before starting to swipe back and forth. Same with web browser, depending on web site, of course...
My contact may be a tad more stuttery, but I have photos for many of my contacts and it seems to slightly slow down every time a photo contact comes up...
