I wouldn't say so. My phone varies between HSDPA, UMTS and EDGE, depending on whether I'm at work (changing between HSDPA and UMTS) or at home (changing between UMTS and EDGE). The phone checks 3 Mail-Adresses for new Mails every 10minutes so I'm online permanently. In addition, I write and get about 30 SMS/day but therefore I don't have much calls (maybe 10min/week). My battery lasts for three days though.

any such program?

if xperia batt is no good, you have not seen the worst.
xperia beats my touch pro hands down where battery is concerned. Granted Xperia has 200mAh capacity more than TP, but I can run pushmail all day long, with moderate SMS and phone calls, and still have 40-50% battery life at end of the day.
if I were to just listen mp3, I can do that with Xperia for easily 7-8 hours (each hour uses up about 10% of battery life), and that's really impressive as compared to my previous WM phones.

On my HTC TyTN II I had a modified Comm Manager. It had an extra button for switching the 3G on of off. Haven't tried if it works on X1.
Try to search this forum for "3G Comm manager" or smth like that.

allow me to clarify sorry..
wat i meant is now, we n eed to go com manager and click off right?
i am hoping to find a small program which, 1 click, on or off the data connecton.. be it 3g or gprs

I second that
Seriously though, I find charging through the PC does give you less battery performance than charging through the wall socket. Second, check your power settings (switch off screen after 30s etc). Next to that, check your task manager - there must be something keeping the phone awake (e.g. TomTom or something).

Try putting it in standby if you are not using the phone. it definately will last 3 time as long.

Download and install "Total Commander for Pocket PC"
http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
Use Total Commander to go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\vijay555\VJVolubilis.
Tap and hold one of the shortcuts and choose properties.
On the second tab called "Shortcut" you can see how the commandline works.
Now create a shortcut for yourself to use the parameter -gprstoggle

Battery experiences

Hello,
Since we all use our device in a different way, it seems like a good idea to collect battery experiences. Important things to mention are:
1. which applications you have running on the background (touchflo3d or pocketplus or whatever else)
2. Bluetooth on or off
3. data connection used (none, gprs, hsdpa)
4. total time of phone calls during the day (you can do that by setting the call timers to 0 on the missed calls screen)
5. pushmail on or off
6. wifi on or off (also for how many minutes)
7. any additional tasks you performed, like watching a youtube video.
Most important is, you should not charge your device in between, unless the battery dies during the day , your battery must be fully charged before starting the day and last, you have to mention the amount of battery left (preferably in %).
Ok, here goes mine.
1. only touchflo3D running
2. bluetooth on all the time and paired 3 hours long to earpiece
3. HSDPA
4. 7 calls, 8 minutes total
5. pushmail on from 8:00 until 18:00
6. wifi off
7. I watched a youtube video for 3 minutes. I also watched googlemaps while driving for 2 minutes and gps enabled (now that is real life navigating, specially with hspda dataconnection ). I also checked my agenda a few times and opened about 4 mails
I charged my device yesterday at 23:00, left it on all night and used the device today as described above. At 18:00 my battery level was down to 56%.
I hope these experience(s) helps people in deciding wether the battery of the device is good enough for their day to day use...
David
me second charge finished at 01:00 all radios off.
From 9:00 gsm bt on. Lots of calls and notes gps for 5mins mp3 for 5 mins. at 21:00 bt off. at 00:00 gsm off. now it has 50% batt.

I suppose you mean in terms of battery usage. I have no idea since I do not own a diamond, but the battery is bigger than on the diamond so it should last langer than the diamonds battery.
So I assume the Blackstone is bigger than the Diamond?

Bit of an obvious statement! Check the dimensions on the HTC web site!
In comparison with my touch pro, battery life appears to be better. battery managment has also improved - ie no sudden jumps in battery level and correct charging.

how battery drain in touch hd

I just order touch hd , and waiting for it. but I wonder how about battery drain on touch hd.
I got diamond one and it terrible on standard battery.
better than diamond thats for sure ما شاء الله
with extensive outdoor usage (gps running, wlan enabled but home wlan unreachable) my Blackstone is drained in less then 4 hours.

With my TyTN II (Kaiser) I have the same bad experience, drained in less then 1/2 day. Same with some other devices. But I think this is typical for this device class. With some directives the battery power can be saved:
- disable WLAN when going outwards
- reduce display brightness
- disable/shutdown GPS apps if not used
- buy a car kit ;-)
In my opinion WLAN and the display are the most power consuming parts.

Had a problem trying to charge it in my car for the first time. On a 3 hour journey with about 1/4 battery level left and running pocket player and TomTom when I got home still only 1/4 (or maybe even less) battery power left. I charge it through the USB port in the car stereo. Never had that problem with Polaris under same conditions. Seems ok at home running the same programmes and charging through the mains.
Any one else having trouble charging in a car?
I hope it stands more than one day only. Xperia has better values, my friend told me, it lasts two days more...
friend of mine just got a Xperia. will catechize him...
with heavy usage but turning off WiFi outdoors battery life has been pretty good lasts a day and a half.
In 3G mode, only with two full charges and a bit of heavy usage, cause I only have my HD from last friday, it's been lasting for about 1,5 day. I'm going to test it about one more week and then I'm going to test it in normal GSM mode.
With heavy usage lasting about a day.
2 hours movie
1 hr mp3
30 min calls
10+ text messages
1 hour internet through wifi
12 hrs standby
5 minutes google maps
Maybe 1 hr playing with my new toy (screen lit)
Probably about 2-3 days when my usage goes back to "normal".
I've charged my HD @ 15 o'clock and now is on 72% of battery
opps sorry wrong section, ment to be in the dream not blackstone how do you delete posts?
I have usually a heavy use on it (i.e. too much talking over BT headphone, regular wifi email exchange, rss update etc.).
I used to see it drain easily until I used the advance configuration to fix sd management, connection management etc. For some reason everything was off on mine.
Now with (fairly) regular use it can go one and half day almost.

True, no need for WLAN to be on when on the move. It's the most power consuming antenna in your phone. You can set it to disable if it can't find an access point for 1 minute. Bluetooth is also a killer... These phones are stuffed with radio's, don't turn them on all at once.
Oh, and my phone easily lasts a day, and I tinker with it all the friggin time, and use it quite a bit. But I only activate stuff when I need it, such as wifi, bluetooth, direct push. I rarely use GPS, yes of course this drains your battery in 4 hours, just like when you would place a call or watch a video or browse the web for 4 hours. Anything that uses a lot of radio activity or a lot of screen on-time will drain your battery fast.
I optimized power saving modes with schaps advanced config and turn the thing off at night.
Push email on winmo or apple phones is a joke. The way it requires to keep a GPRS connection alive is ridiculous. Blackberry understands this a lot better.
If you don't use it, you might as well turn GRPS auto attach off using schaps advanced config tool since that too will save a lot of battery time.
Recharged 20 hours ago. Normal use. GPRS Data Connection on, e-mail push each hour (i have flatrate) and i have 85% of battery left.

How to increase battery performance?

Can someone post some tips to get a better battery performance?
I have my Touch 3G less then a week ago and the battery is during only 1.5 days with SMS and few more things...
Thanks.
what connections do you have turned on all day? i usually disable wireless lan and data connections when i dont need them, and that saves me some battery.
also set the backlight options so that the light fades out when your not using your Jade.
Avoid:
- WLAN (especially the high-power mode)
- Bluetooth on all the time
- High CPU load (like games, etc)
- Display (the brighter the higher the power consumtion)

I got them all turned off and disabled too the screen auto-adjust option and put the brightness at 1/3.
Now I got these times:
Standby: 40.5 h
Conversation: 0 h
Utilization: 4:39 h (most of the time with SMS)
And 1/5 of the battery. I think that isn't too much.
The battery was charged only two times.

Jade is supposed to be the best in low power usage and lasting battery power.
This is my battery performance.
1) Normal daily calls (about 20) and SMS (about 20) - last 3.5 days without charging (still about 5% left)
2) Use GPS for about 30 mins - drains about 5% of the battery
3) Use Wi-Fi for about 60 mins - drains about 5 % of the battery.

Your battery probably is one of those that fails the QA level but sneak pass the QA team. You should get a replacement.

hi
i just bought my jade 3 days back and i want to change the SMS view from thread view to regular on my old gene i was doing this by using advanced confugrator but it does not work on this mobile its asking me to upgrade my .net
pls advise
1.how do i get the updated .net for my mobile
2.how to change the view of SMS with existing set up
kindly advise thanks in advance
What is the impact to battery performance ?
I've just got back from a holiday in France where I had consistant 3G/HSDPA coverage and got 96hrs Standby, 16min Talktime (Roaming keeps calls short!) and 4.5hrs Usage. This is about double my normal performance at home where the phone spends most of its time on (2.5) GSM. Its obvious that these phones are optimised for 3G over the older GSM system, as at home I get poor 3G reception. These figures are still far short of what is advertised in the spec on the HTC website!
To those who've just bought a new phone, the battery does improve with a few charge/discharge cycles but not a lot! Would be interested in hearing more about the SD card causing drainage and marginal battery performance caused by sub-standard batteries.
Woolly
mine can last for 5 to 6 days if only use wifi for 10 mins...

How long does your X1 battery last?

Guys,
just bought my X1i last week. One of the my reason to buy this phone, because some "people" said that the battery can last up to 4 days on regular use.
So I'm just curious about how long does your X1 battery last. Mine, it can barely last 2 days, most of the time, I have to charge it everyday, so I can use the phone for the next day.
Please post your answers below and also mention the rom you used at this moment. Just want to know, if there is any correlation between versions of rom used and battery life. I used stock generic UK R3A.
Also if anyone knows how to save your X1 battery, please also post it below...
Thanx and regards,
liemivan
i have touchx 10.2 and if i dont use internet just normal stuff it last 5 days... if i start using wifi/edge about 2 days...
I'm havin the same problem. Battery just lasts one day. I turn off the internet by turning off the data connection switch in com manager but still no dice. Is there a battery checker to see if u have a bad battery?
I used to charge my X1 every day, at least every second (when I didn't use it that much).
But since I did the Biotouch.exe trick, I'm able to run about 3-4 days with "normal" usage (most time online, permanent checking mails, etc).
Just search for the thread Biotuch.exe. It's about 3 pages back.
R3, 5 days in standby @ home, using it to call during about 10' per day. Otherwise @ work (phone 20 - 30' per day, and 15 - 20' surfing on the web by UMTS) 3 days then I charge it as I am at 20 percent.
Beware of the UMTS coverage, if the coverage is not excellent, you'll use your battery very quick (so if no 3G used, set is as GSM instead of Auto in Phone - Settings - Band).
Pay attention to the software you install, it can change from 3 days to a simple day if the software is not optimized (for example it's a nightmare with SPB Mobile Shell 3).

I don't know really. Take yesterday for example:
I unplugged it from the charger in 9:00 then after 5 calls, 30 mins of music playback, 15 mins of wi-fi and 15 mins of playing games the battery was dead in 15:00 . That's only 6 hours......
I don't care anymore though. I bought a second battery and I'm happy again .
My battery lasts about 5 or 6 hours, simply had to buy a second charger and keep at work. Would leave home around 5:30 a.m. fully charged. Bluetooth is always on from then to about maybe 8a.m. or 9a.m. Listeing to audio podcasts or audio books. Screen at full brightness, always have the 3G connection on. Couple hundred text msgs to go through, along with clicking on links as needed to go to the websites linked in them. And SkyFire to read the Wall Street Journal for maybe 30 mins.
X1am, ROM: 1.02.948.8 with a date of 09/17/08.
about 2 - 3 days depending on use (more calls on some days lowers battery alot)
My power Xperiences so far
Overall the power consumption and power mgmt of the Xperia is quite bad, having been an XDA user for years.
The power button puts the phone into standby, so some apps keep running and drain the battery, when you think it is not consuming. Eg GPS.
Last week my phone would drain within one day, even on standby. I checked for any running apps and I had Closed All, but drain continued a second day after full recharge.
The only way to get it back to some level of normaility was to do a Soft Reset. This must have stopped the culprit process which was draining power ???
When the power drains to its lowest level, it puts the phone into a virtual dead state. It requires some time charging before it even powers up again. This is not an elegant way to power manage.
Wow... judging from the answers here, it is very strange to see how the battery life can be very differ from one to another. One can only last for 5 to 6 hours, while others can last for up to 3 to 5 days.

I guess it is because of if you used all your battery power, you will also drain the backup battery (you can check the backup battery status by using the apps "batty"), so it will take a while to charge the backup battery first before charging the main battery. This is only a guess...
What Backup Battery??? The thing that shows up in Batti is for phone with a backup battery I guess... but NOT for the X1. There is no such thing that can show up in Batti. On mine it shows just an empty bar.

why would i have it on when my operator doesnt even support 3g course it was off no data connection also... my battery goes down 10-20% a day when i just use it for music and some sms...
Mine lasts about ~6 hours talk time at 3G.
~3-4 Days when i use talk ~30 minutes / day.
Only lasted a few hours with the original Rom.
Flashed to Smabergs Touch X 10.0, battery lasted ~1 day, and then with 10.1 it got improved to 3-4 days.
Which is enough. Thank you Smaberg!
My battery last from 9AM to uhm 3PM yes that's for 6 hours of use (I have SPB Mobile 3.0.1 running and WCX ROM Windows 6.5). RAM running from 60-95% of usage LOLOLOL but yeah I have my FB, Skype, Windows Media, MSN, etc. running and it runs SUPER slow at times that I have to take the batt out.
I'm gonna flash the ROM again to a battery friendly ROM if available (the way I'm using it right now is not very economy friendly).

Hey Leobox,
There could be a plenty of factors involved:
1. Constant use of GPRS to update weather.
2. Some SD cards use up the battery.
3. Make sure that your internet connection is not on generally
4. Finally, use BSB tweaks for power management.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

And yes it's truly disappointing especially coming from HTC Touch HD.

I have problem with my battery life as well. Mine barely lasted a whole day. All I did was 150 sms and typing in Microsoft Word and nothing else. Brightness was set to automatic.

as mentioned in my previous post.. the battery of HD2 seems to be ok.. a fren who is a power user has it.. generally this is what he does:
Full charge in the morning
Day use:
Approx 90-100 mins of call
15-20 mins of browsin
30 odd mins of music play
150 odd daily messages
15-20 mins of push mail
from 100% at about 8AM in the morning to about 25% in the evening at about 11PM.
I think thats pretty good
i have weather set to 6 hours.
yes my data connection is on.. but i do not surf.. will that kill battery>?

Thats the culprit
why will it kill .. i do not surf.. it is just on.. and it is only GPRS .. no 3g
with regard to data connection. do we have to manually turn it off in the settings page or is there a way to make it turn itself off when its idle.
what ROM are you on?
I was originally on 1.48 ROM and had pretty bad battery drain problems too.
Most i got was about 1 day on average usage (couple calls and texts with browsing and slight GPS)
But i upgraded to 1.61 and i can honestly get 2-3 days now, no joke!
On hard usage about 1.5 days, but its still much better than before.
So if u want u can try upgrading to 1.61 and see how that works out for you
After struggling with the battery life for last 10 days I figured the real culprit to be the SD card. from day 1 I had 4GB SD card and the response was always slow while browsing the storage card or using Music and Photo tabs in SENSE.
I replaced the SD card yesterday night with original 2 GB card. I had 54 percent yesterday night and after 16 Hours I am still at 33 percent. (even with 25 mins call and some use of phone).
Seems the problem is resolved. Hope this helps to all who have battery problem.

You are correct- a data connection turned on but not exchanging data uses minimal power as it's simply part of the GSM/3G service. However, if it is on, then some programs can use the connection for active data transfer which will use some power.
If you stick with GSM, rather than 3G, the battery hit is even less. Most battery usage when 3G is on results from the hunting between protocols when the 3G signal level is poor, though a good 3G connection uses less power than a stable GSM connection.
yes been thinking about updating the ROM. im on the o2 1.43 rom.
I still dont get the data connection though. even if i manually turn it off, something turns it back on i pressume its Twitter or weather. but why does it not disconnect itself afterwards?
i also have a question about the battery: is it normal that the battery drains 2-3 % per 10 minutes while listening radio?? screen is off, no data connection! this makes me crazy..
I'm using 1.48 ROM. It only lasts about a day .

I also have a Omina II, and whilst I appreciate it has a larger capacity battery and only 800mhz processor, I could listen to the fm radio for an hour and the battery would drop 1% Max. The omina does throttle down the processor for less demanding apps.
I had problem with G-Alarm. When in standby the HD2 use only 4-5mA in GSM/GPRS (no 3G) but when opening and closing G-Alarm, the HD2 was using in standby 80mA average.
I found that overnight it was discharging my battery around 40% (from 89% to 45% in 7hours). Then after disinstalling it I come back to normal discharge rate of around 4% overnight.
I think that G-Alarm and maybe some other softwares are not fully compatibles with the HD2 and after you open it (and close it with task manager, so not still open in background) there is a bug that let the HD2 not fully in standby, also if the screen stay off. In this situation the processor is still active and drain the battery faster. The only way to recover from this, is with softreset.
Perhaps apart from network usage / 3G / wifi / microSD etc. there are some programs developed for previous WM devices that are not 100% compatibles with HD2 and don't fully put on standby the device after you used it (also if closed with task manager) draining faster the battery.
Hi!
Which version do you use of G-Alarm?
I have not noticed this at all, and when i quit G-Alarm it quits and can't be found in taskmanager.

I tried the 2.3 version. When I was testing it, when closing it, it was not dispaying on task manager also for me, but after that the battery was draining quicker during standby. After I disinstalled it, the draining of battery during standby comeback to normal (4-5mA).
I use battery log to check battery draining.
It's a very powerful smartphone folks, my battery barely lasts a day either. I have to charge my HD2 every 20 hours-or-so. Stop comparing the battery drain on this handset to an old phone you just used for texting and making calls! Every smartphone I've owned drained the battery within a day if I actually used it for more than calls and texting. If you turn the data connection off and turn the 3G to GSM, you will experience much longer battery life....but then you won't be using the phone for anything much will you?
