I can change my Xperia X1 to the Touch HD.
Is it worth it?? I chosen Xperia cause of the keyboard.
Is the screen keyboard as good as a physikal keyboard?
Is it worth it to change my phone??

Where did you change it? Marktplaats?
I want to change my old TyTN II aswell
Xperia + Touch HD
To be honest, if you bought the X1 becouse of the hardware kayboard i take it you type alot and need to do so fast. If that is the case i would advise you to stick to the X1. Surely you can get fast typespeeds on the HD also, bur i doubt you can type as fast as on a hardware keyboard. in landscape mode, my thumbs are just a tiny bit to large to let me type rapidly on the software keyboard, and I have small hands. In portrait mode two hands input is impossible.
I switched my orbit 2 for an x1 and then i swapped it for a HD.
if you get touchpal and use it in the 2 letters per button mode you can type quite alot quicker then the x1's Hard Keyboard.
the x1's alt button is a pain for numbers etc as you have try and hold the bottom left button down whilst trying to find the correct number or quote etc.
The only thing is landcscape mode as touchpal needs an update to take into account the extra screen area....
you can change sips to the htc one though in landscape.
Also the hd is quit a bit wider then the x1 but only half as thick so its swings and roundabouts.
I love the screen though, for me there's no looking back.
bear in mind carrying it around though as its not quite a comfortable fit in your pocket.
How come the xperia coust more than the touch hd.

I'm nearly at the end of my contract for my T-mobile vario II. It looks like my next phone will either be the X1 or the touch HD. I read a lot of ebooks and web pages so the bigger screen is going to be great.
I like the fact that the X1 has a slide out keyboard and dpad. These should help when writing emails or playing games. However the simpler package of the Touch HD does look very nice.
One thing that sucked about the vario II was the sluggish interface - from the few videos I have watched the HD seems a bit slicker than the X1 - am I right?
If possible I would like to install android on my next device - is this more likely to be possible on the HD?
So what are your views - which is better?
Mercedes or BMW.
Two similar but quite different animals.
Need the keyboard... X1
Need no keyboard .. T' HD
It's simply a choice only. Some point or other.. a HardSPL and cooking of roms will be well underway.. along with a vast choice of rom shape and size, along with inbuilts. The only thing that will not change is the Hardware shape. (guts are the same)
The Touch HD is not even out properly, and the HD manilla is already available and installable on the X1. the Sony panels will no doubt hit the Touch HD.
I have bought 2 X1's..along with an Omnia... Will get a HD also.. but this is because i'm a picky sod.. and have money to pee away.
Please don't tell my wife!.
Well the Touch HD is technically using HTC's "2nd" version of TouchFlo3D, after Diamond/TPro, so understandably they've put some effort into getting it to run more smoothly. SE's panels will debut on the X1 so it's probably buggy just like TouchFlo3D was when the Diamond first came out.
That said, XDA got even the stock Diamond interface running really well, so there's no reason they can't do it with the X1's panels. It's not a question of if but when.
I think if you're going to reading most of the time, the HD will be the better choice (bigger screen, and you dont "need" a hardware keyboard to read). But I must say if you do a fair amount of messaging, a real keyboard is second to none -- there's just no going back after you've used one (imo).
As for Android, only time will tell. My guess is yes for both, but it might not be fully functional for some time. There are just too many unknowns right now for there to be an easy answer.

If you are so flush with cash feel free to mail me one of the X1's!
fhseih - I do read a lot and the physical size of the screen on the touch hd would be very nice for that. However the actual resolution of the X1 is the same so it should be almost as good in that respect. As you say, once you get used to the keyboard you never go back. I have got used to having a keyboard on my vario II. I love the way that you can type without wasting screen space on a virtual keyboard.
Maybe what I really want is a Touch HD Pro - any rumors that we will see one of these soon?

Even though i have capital... and enough to buy a handset i want when i want it on the network i choose to be with.. i am certainly no charity.. so i'm sorry.. if the second x1 goes anywhere its back to supplier... and get a HD instead.
I think getting a Touch HD pro is pointless.. HD is such because its not bulky. Its slim and basically a screen with a send and end key.
Adding a keyboard to it = not a Touch HD Pro but a X1.
Lack of G-sensor on X1 is the thing i think when it comes to using different roms and software. Hardware apart from this and keyb is the same. (except screen size...res is the same)
I think... i will keep one x1 and get a HD...
that way.. i'm covered.
Really wish the DX900 Glofiish had been released... 2 sim cards... one phone with VGA/GPS/WIFI/Bluetooth/3G/HSDPA .. but as yet.. its just due... due .. and due....
who could want more?

Trying to get one of the Korean Omnia's at moment too...

Good.
I returned an Omnia because it was too small (easy to drop), too slow, and it had lots of crackling noise during calls.
No such problems on the HD.
Easy guys...
I did spend alot of lolly.. all sim free.. and nearing the 2k mark..
I do have more money than sense... but i got peed off with all the.. coming soon.. nearly.. we are going to stock it.. and no-one could actually answer some really straight questions..
Does it support Line 1 and Line 2
How quick is GPS lock
How usable in the hand is it.
What is lacking...
so on.. so forth
So i bought them ..and i'll pick and keep the best.. and offload the others i don't want
I initially thought.. 2 x1's.. one for me.. one for mrs
then she liked Omnia.. so.. thats that
then the HD... larger screen... blah blah
(i've found the Touch HD is just thin... but.. it lacks a DPAD.. and the size of fonts and menus as default are pretty much for the blind! there seems no point at general use to have all those pixels.. and set it up to use your big stump/club of a finger.)
May aswell just get a 6500 super big stupid thing,, and set the font up.
The X1 is a good phone. easily pees over the Touch Pro i had.
trumps it in every way.. which is really silly considering they could have tweaked it.. re-shaped (like Touch diamond is on T-mobile) and sold it as a Touch HD Pro. job done
I've got Touch Flo 3d on the X1.. and they run sweet!
i've managed to wedge the Sony Panels onto the HD.. but it totally runs first run .. panel view.. jiggling around panels... fish .. google... spb... x1.... sony panel...... but not after a reboot.... needs alot more work to make it solid.
i asked for help... thinking everyone would love to have the X1 front screen running on the HD... but not one person is assiting me.. so i will do it as i can
omnia from Korea.. i/collegue may have a trip due in the next few weeks.. so may just walk in.. and buy one.. and bring it back
Personally...
The X1.. i think takes the cake.. over the HD... but i will say.. i'd be very tempted with the korean omnia.
Touch HD spec... but in a samsung solid case.. and a camera that is better than the turd on the HD. I have managed to get the Sony Xperia cam app working on the HD also... bit better.. but pic is still not brilliant..and don't forget.. no camera

Don't dismiss that too easily. Bigger screen means everything to some of us, even more than GPS, camera, 3G, etc.

A D-PAD just takes up valuable screen real estate for me. I have no use for a D-PAD. I suppose if you're trying to play shooters that would be a problem
The font sizes are customizable, and should never factor into whether you are going to buy a smaller or larger screen phone.
A stylus is essential for maximum productivity, instead of big stumps. Luckily, the HD stylus doesn't require prying it out with your fingernails to remove it.

A minimum screen size of 3.5"is a requirement for me. Small screens strain eyes and make blunt fingers seem even blunter. Low-res but large screens prevent web pages and emails from displaying well.
The HD is the first WinMo GSM phone in 1.5 years to have a 3.5" screen and VGA or higher resolution, without being too thick or large to fit in a small pocket. This is because it uses the space wisely, instead of cramming D-Pads and keyboards onto it.

Hold on, the X1 does not have HD spec.
HD: 3.8" screen, X1: 3.0" screen

The HD's camera is worthless, but I don't buy phones to use them as cameras, even occasionally. Only if there was a once-in-a-lifetime chance and I had to capture something or lose it, would I consider using a phone camera. Otherwise I'll use D-SLR.

I've ordered a Touch HD. I've been dealing with GPS lag on my TOuch Pro since day 1...its when you are further ahead than where the gps is reporting you to be by 3-5 seconds.
Can you report if the Touch HD has GPS lag or not..and what gps applications you tested? I've herd Google so far is the only one that lags on the HD.

I answered that in a topic about it... The HD supports Line 1 and 2, the Omnia with Orange software does not. With generic software, it does though. Not too strange, right?
Indeed... I have read the comments...
I like the touch HD.. its a good attempt. Poor is the fact that with a little layout change.. the bottom 4 buttons could easily have had the X1/omnia type optical pad put on aswell.
Therefore.. you;d have a control for volume/up and down.. and skip forward and back when in coreplayer/mediaplayer.. seeing as it is very much penned as a media/internet/3g work/play horse / Iphone direct competitor.
I think the HD would be better if i could get a rom stripped of the large menu's everywhere... and get it to run as a PDA and then add large menu's/enable/disable.. and even better.. if you choose a layout that needs finger use.. or if your current layout warrants stylus
As for the Spec of X1 and HD being same... give or take a bit of ram ..i was on about internal goods.
Keyboard..i'm used to the TYTN II size... so.. moving to a more compact one.. has caught me out a few times...
But.. i for one.. did like the X1 panels.... i think it's thinking out of the box... (SE could easily have taken the TF3d...and re-skinned it.. but didn't)
I have done a proof of concept... that makes the X1 Panels (kinda) work on a HD
Anyways...
I got the panels kinda working...
It's only a proof of concept.. and after a reboot.. i cannot access them.. something freaky going on....
It shows it working. and quicker than the X1... just slightly.. but quicker.. All panels have been tried.. and work.. fish.. google... sony.. live (new panel from SE...)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443723
have a look... I think they look 100 times better than TF3d.

It's a misconception that a phone NEEDS any UI hardware buttons at all. We can pretend that the iPhone is crap all we want but it demonstrates how to make a good interface. Imagine putting a DPad on there... The screen would be little over half the size making it uncontrollable, and yes, then you suddenly would require a DPad or a stylus to navigate it, because your "big stump/club of a finger" certainly wouldn't cut it.
For the blind? On so many winmo phones I need a freaking stylus to find a contact, which is stupid. I've never seen a Blackberry or an iPhone require a stylus to find a contact... or for anything at all for that matter... Thank goodness they now feature devices with huge screens and great UI's so that I can use my big, clumsy stumps of fingers to GET WORK DONE

What do you mean with a bit better? Is the camera application better, as in does it have better features? Because certainly the camera application does not make your picture any more "brilliant"... The picture is a direct feed from the sensor which you can manipulate but you can't make the quality any better.
"Touch HD spec" is a little more than just hardware, and even that just doesn't match with the samsung... Why would anybody buy a phone because of specs alone? Any good smartphone has GPS, WIFI, fast processor, 3.5G, what not. Care. The silly Omnia interface versus the HD's touch flo for "blind people"? I'd take the HD every time.

I totally disagree.. The Pad i am talking about is the 10mm x 8mm high square pad found on the omnia and X1. the simple touch sensative pad... not the rocker around it. Samsung have done it fine.. and if the 4 keys were spaced...this would have been perfect nested inbetween...
just out of interest.. how do you skip forward on a video you are playing in Coreplayer?
oh.. you drop to windowed view.. then skip forward.. and replay.. well.. thats crap. the x1.. i just swipe over the square pad side to side for forward and back.. and up and down for volume. T.I.D.Y!

I agree.. but this should be a choice!... EVERYONE on here , wants to alter or change the standard form shipped by HTC, To make it more usable for each person.
That is what this whole place is about..
Taking what HTC have.. and make it different for differnt people.
I like the big ease factor buttons..and menus.. but maybe some would like a more tidy.. more informative display and they would rather use a stylus at times.

Getting the Touch HD is a no brainer in every way, except one. I can't imagine giving up my sliding keyboard. Yes, I'm currently leaning towards getting the Touch Pro.
Thoughts? rants & raves? and shuttefu%^&up about iphones please.
As an owner of both I say get the HD. I loved my Raphael so dont get me wrong. I do a decent amount of typing and the HD keyboard seems very responsive. If you are doing a ton of typing there is really no substitute for a hard keyboard but the HD isnt far off. Out of the box the HD runs much better than the raphael did but there are plenty of custom ROMs out there that solve this for the raphael so not really an issue. One plus abotu the raphael is that there are tons of customizations but youc an expet that from the HD cookers out there in the coming weeks.
Again, i say get the HD. Its hard ot beat the screen on it and typing is actually pretty easy. I like the power button and volume buttons more on the HD as well. you dont accidently press them the way you will on the raphael. The other buttons on the HD are really nice as well because they do not actually press like the raphael does. It gives a little vibrate when you press them which is a suprisingly great feature. Oh yeah, don forget about the 5mp camera. It takes wonderful pics as long as you are in decent light.
Lastly, everyone that has seen my HD is blown away. When they saw my raphael they mostly said "thats nice, a little too think for me but nice"

WOW the most usefull review of all
thx again, and when my back account allow it , I might buy HD
I've still have my Touch Pro. I opted to buy the Touch HD for one big reason...Screen size bigger than the iPhone on a WM device! I'm tired of dealing with the limited space of a 2.8" screen. I've always been a fan of hardware keyboards, but the Touch HD has a nice virtual keyboard and with a program like gyrator 2 or gsen you can rotate your HD into landscape and stretch out the virtual keyboard for more room.
Also the GPS performance is better on the Touch HD.....the Touch Pro and Diamonds performance is crappy..its lags way too much and takes longer to get a fix. Now the AT&T Fuze may have this solved, but unless you have AT&T and live in the US its not really an option.
I think for any one who has been lusting over the idea of having an iPhone, but would never give up Windows Mobile can now rest at ease.
Just my two cents.
I have also used both, and I can say , on any given day , I would take HD.
HD screen is the best thing and the keyboard is also very good on it.Once , the custom roms comes from the likes of senior people like Dutty , Panosha and others, I am sure the HD will fly like a rocket.
Go for HD. I sold my rapheal already.

Best regards.
In the last 3 months, I have owned a Diamond, Raphael and an HD. The Diamond came first and was lovely to use but the screen was too small to type effectively. So I bought a Raphael - which i used for work but it was just too thick - it ruins the cut of a suit!
Then along came the HD. The screen is just beautiful. Crucially, it is also large enough to type effectively. Don't get me wrong, it is not as effective as typing on a keyboard (such as on the Raphael) but unless you're doing a lot of typing, that doesn't matter. I still do a reasonable amount of email and the screen keyboard on the HD is large enough to cope.
The HD also runs more responsively than the Diamond or Raph. It doesn't suffer the Raph's GPS lag (I never had lag on the Diamond). And did I mention that screen???!!!
Disappointments with the HD? Not many yet. The camera is unquestionably way too slow and nowhere near as good as, eg, the N95 (which my wife has). The lack of D-Pad takes a bit of getting used to but all it really means is getting used to a different way of working as we're all so used to the DPad. I haven't yet found any software where it causes a major problem.
My final answer? Both my Raph and my Diamond are on ebay right now.

yeah, my tilt and fuze have both sold on Ebay, I like my Touch HD. I am looking forward to using a different onscreen keyboard than the one provided in the stock ROM. I don't like that they wasted space by putting directional buttons on the right hand side. There is one available on a particular ROM downloaded from this site, but i suspect there will be more WVGA keyboards. I used to have a 6600 which had like a 3" screen or something, a wee bit larger than the tilt and that was a really nice phone actually, it just lacked the new juicier hardware. The Touch HD really brings out the sexy in HTC. No overweight short, fat, ugly phone, its tall and sleek and slim and sexy, lol! Just another thought: The Touch Pro can be had for about $500 without a contract and even FREE with a contract if you pull the right strings! However, the Touch HD is nearly $800 and there is no ifs ands or buts about it. You gotta pay for the best and its not really supported by AT&T or the retailers that sell it here in the US and is only barely supported by HTC in US. And, the insurance companies dont know much about it. All this makes for a riskier investment especially considering that some peoples HD vibrate breaks and they have to send it back . (moment of silence please). Yeah its a little scary for me right now. I think I might have it under control! If I were you and I had wee bit of money, I would go for the HD, its what the really cool people have, lol
Just a few thoughts,

I had a very cherished Tytn II (kaiser) before the recent HD.
I was really excited about the huge screen and higher resolution but the lack of a hard keyboard really put me off. Another huge aspect that put me off was the fract that straight out of the box you cant rotate to landscape mode. I've had my tytn ii in landscape mode permenantly for ever a year now and thats how I like it. The optical layout is very similar to wide screen TVs and monitors. Any how, I found a way to keep it in landscapde mode (look for my thread called landscape view +solved+.
I tried typing in full qwerty and compact qwerty mode in portrait screen but it just wasnt the same (or even close) to a large keyboard. So I resorted to trying to type in landscapde mode using full qwerty and it was just as good as the tytn ii keyboard. Snailslug's wonderful app called touch response made it even better. His app added little vibration feedback (haptic I believe is the term) to touching the screen. So using the virtual keyboard is much more predictable if you can imagine.

The time has come to relegate my trusty Hermes to the nearest bin. This means - upgrade time.
Now, unlike some of you, I do not have the luxury of trying out both of these to make up my mind. So, I'd like to hear some thoughts on those of you who has had to give up their Touch Pro keyboards for the more clumsy Touch HD on-screen text input.
Getting the Touch HD is a no brainer in every way, except one. I can't imagine giving up my sliding keyboard. Yes, I'm currently leaning towards getting the Touch Pro.
Thoughts? rants & raves? and shuttefu%^&up about iphones please.

I have tested both and I can say, being a Universal Super keyboard user, that HD is almost perfect but the lack of physical keyboard stop me to buy it, a Physical Kb will never be beaten for any fantastic on screen virtual Kb.
So if I had to decide for any of those being the only options I would choose Touch Pro because the Kb, even with that fantastic super screen of the HD.
Or dreaming a little bit I would wait for the upcoming HD touch Pro....
Iphone? Never in my life!!
I've had both on hand: Touch PRO and HD. And now i am really satisfied with HD compared to what I've been with Raphael. I've been considered so much before change from Raph to HD. I'd been with Raph for a month and swapped with many ROMs and radios (only Raphael radio) before making a decision to switch to HD... Beyond all of Raphael's pros is its crappy BATTERY LIFE
It only lasts for a day with full charge on my usage (compared to the same usage with HD). The GPS is so bad, could not fix as fast as my Polaris.
I have to say I'm really disappointed with Raph as I thought it could be another king replaced for the Kaiser...
Go to HD then you will have no regret and waste !
as a TyTN owner.. i thought of getting a raphael.. but looking at them.. they dont have many differences.. ok the vga screen.. the looks etc.. overall though its the exact same device pumped up..
besides.. im a more of a techie gadget guy.. the raphael doesnt come close to the HD from my point of view.. the raphael is a more bussiness man type of device rather the HD is the more
show off device.. get the HD you wont regret it!
cheers!
I too have upgraded from a Kaiser to the Touch HD.
Bit of a no-brainer for me as I found I hardly ever used the slide-out keyboard on the Kaiser. The basic WM keyboard has always been a fast method of entering text for me, particularly with the help of predicitve text and gesture recognition.
Spb Keyboard is meeting my needs for basic text entry on the HD. If I need to do a serious amount of text entry the stylus comes out and I use the standard WM keyboard again. With practise I think this is a pretty fast and accurate way of entering text.
Just in case it hasn't sunk in (!), the screen on the HD is FANTASTIC! Web browsing is excellent. The extra screen space and resolution is also fantastic in Pocket Informant agenda view. And mobile shell is great on the bigger screen.
As someone's said above, lack of D-pad is an issue to start with but only because you have to re-learn how to use your favourite programmes. After a while it's fine.
Setting up haptic feedback is a good thing.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what WinMo developers will do next year to tweak their software for the HD. It's good at the moment but could be more finger-friendly in places. Eg I know the next version of Pocket Informant will be more finger-friendly. Hopefully other developers will head in this direction too.
What about US 3G on ATT...

According to the service manual (http://mikechannon.net/PDF%20Manuals/HTC_Blackstone_Service_Manual.pdf) the US ATT 850 and 1900 HSDPA/UMTS bands are supported.
The original specs showed no support for these bands -- but now????
Are you getting 3G speeds in the US???
Guys !! I need your advice, I wanna buy a new WM....
I'm confused between these two!!! HD has a lovely big screen and Xperia has small screen but nice keyboard.
please ADVICE
Currently i got Samsung OMNIA
Thanks in advanced
Depends how much you text.
Very hard decicion - I have both and I can not say wich one is better.
The sony is much faster and the display is better ( but smaller ).
The camera is better, too.
The keyboard - sometimes I like it but sometimes I hate it. How can SE make asilver keyboard with white light ? It is unreadable most of the time.
The HD is looking very good, The Camera is bad - no photolight.
The display is not as bright as the x1 but the size is just perfect. In that point the best display on the market.
So I can not say

Saying that the Xperia X1 is much faster than the TouchHD is definetly exxagerated.
What about watching movies is it clear enough?
what do you mean by the display is better in Sony? does this mean the HD has a bad screen? i understood that both got 800X480
I saw the X1 for the first time for real at a Phone4U (dummy model).
It was smaller than I thought. I tried the keyboard out - was probably OK.
I had the X1 before and have to say that the keyboard is not that good as everybody expect.u have not that feedback from the keys while pressing.
Screen is a big plus for HD and also no slider so u have one part less which can be damaged
sorry - with meaning much faster - but I have both next to me and working a whole day the x1 feels much faster and smoother - I do not know why
I had an own threat asking why but nobody could help me
it is not a benchmarking feeling - it is a subjective view
sounds mad but the htc devices sometimes make pause for a short moment and the x1 just works like all winmo devices with pros and cons
HD better
Having owned an Xperia and owning an HD now I can say I much prefer the HD now. Yes the keyboard is nice but the HD has arrow keys that the keyboard (german which I had) of the X1 is missing. To reposition the cursor quickly on the X1 you have to use the much smaller touchscreen, only really feasible by stylus. All buttons etc are really small, stylus type. There is a Touchflo Rip running on there, but it's not fully functional yet afaik.
I finally decided to return the X1 when, after a reset that was forced by the panels app being crashed rendering the phone unusable, a tiny piece of casing plastik broke off.
The cam of the X1 is NOT better from my experience. video is much better on the HD as it has 0.8 inches more screen space.
DIVX is choppy in Coreplayer 1.2.3 from my experience.
Overall in terms of design, the HD is more designed for finger-use, while the X1 is more keyboard & stylus.
And I just used pocketputty, I'm as fast on the HD as I'm on the X1. If you want enjoyable video, prefer the HD for screen size...
I forget to say
THE TOUCH HD and the SE XPERIA 1 are definitly the bost absolutly BEST
Windows Mobile Devices I ever had
so my critic is at a high level
I love both devices - they are good
the only competitor they have is the iPhone
all Nokia and Samsung Devices are far beyond ( sorry I can not say anything about RIM Devices because i do not like the RIM System )
I ask myself why the Touch HD can not record Videos with VGA like the X1.
I know there was a threat about that on the Touch Pro.
Can anybody tell me if the X1 and HD have the same CPU and is there is a patch for the HD to record 640x480 Video over the Cam ?
In fact i need Text for email using ActiveSync and also i want to use the large screen for videos
hey..
i use the xperia x1 for about 2-3 months... but its too bulky for me and i dont use the hardware keybord
now im looking for the touch hd... does anyone know a good website to buy or can give me some support. mabye you know a good shop or something :-\ (me located in ger)
would be very nice
You can try http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/1464/htc-touch-hd
The HTC Touch HD is a beautiful device, I don't need the hardware keyboard and I type perfectly on it
All it takes is a bit of Googling...
