When comparing my phone to my brothers phone, his screen is brighter. WTF. We have same phone (touch enhanced), same screen protector, high brightness, same ROM. Why is his brighter? Totally brighter!
Maybe your one is older? After some time lamps which highlight screen become darker. Screen replacement should help.
We bought them the same month. It should still be under warranty.

I had my nexus side by side with a Droid last night. And I noticed that when the AMOLED screen on the nexus dims down. it gets REALLY red and distorts the contrast/colors alot.
Is this normal? When my brightness is at a normal setting it looks great. its only when it gets dim. Im a little concerned.
its fine, thats just how AMOLED displays work.
I can't agree that it's fine ... if colour infidelity is part and parcel of AMOLED then maybe HTC should reconsider their use of it. I notice the red tint at all brightness levels but it's most noticeable at the lowest level.
I always have the brightness at 0% and automatic to off when not plugged in. Don't see any severe redness.
well, I guess it's not normal , I got my frist one with dead pixel but the color is bright so I did a refund as they recomended and buy a second one but this one came with redish screen..... I did the comparison and the one with the dead pix is a lot more brighter , so my luck sucks
This is my second nexus, both have pinkish hue when on lowest brightness
I haven't noticed any red/pink issues at any brightness with my phone, but I haven't done any side-by-side comparisons.
Call HTC support and see if this is a known problem they fix or if it is just part of a normal working Nexus One.
It's a part of a normal Nexus One. My friend had the red / pinkish hue on his screen and called HTC for a replacement. Once the replacement came, it was exactly the same hue. But with 50% brightness, it isn't noticeable. However, I'm probably the lucky one because I don't experience the 'problem' with 0% brightness on my Nexus.
Some nexus one don't have the red tint, I got 2 nexus one and one have the other doesn't show any red tint even at lowest brightness. I guess its just difference screen from difference suppliers.

I agree with this completely.
In Direct sun light my phone is really black.
Impossible to use it, I've to turn on the fast bright. The screen light auto calibrate seems not to function as well. Is there a way to Set the auto-light calibration values?
No, this is a characteristic of AMOLED screens, sadly.
What sun? There was no sun here since I got it
Use Anti-glare screen protector from Powersupport. They dont make the one for Nexus, but its so good that i fitted iPod Touch protector on my N1
It works when you turn brightness up, right? I can see mine just fine in the sun with full brightness.
I don't like auto-brightness. It shouldn't work well in the sun for any phone, considering it's trained to become brighter in low light situations and thus, dimmer in strong light situations.

Actually you got that the wrong way round.
In dimmer conditions the screen is also dimmer as less light is needed to see the screen.
In brighter conditions the backlight should be brighter to counteract the bright light.

Ha, thanks. It just seemed to have been getting brighter in low light situations for me so I turned it off.
I still think the screen is perfectly readable in the sunlight using the widget for full brightness. I'm surprised to hear so many complaints.
the complaint is about auto-brightness.
If I've it on and look at the phone in a sunny day it's very hard to find the widget to turn on the fast bright.
There's a way to set the values of auto-brightness? I mean to set bright at max when there's a lot of light?
my screen looks fine in the sun. I set my brightness to like 65%
If you move the widget to your homescreen it shouldn't be too hard to find in the sun.
It's the same Wobblebonk, sometimes when you light up you phone is not the home screen that appears you. In a sunny day the nexus screen appear totally black

try taking off your sun glasses :>
The home button returns you to the home screen... hence you can get back to the home screen regardless of what you can see.
the light sensor on my N1 is ****ed. maybe thats another issue......
try a soft reboot it helped with mine power +volume down +trackball resets without data wipe
Am I the only one having trouble with HD2's screen brightness ?
I work in a very shiny-sunny environment (I'm a ski instructor) and I can barely use the phone when I'm working. I manage to use the basic functions, but watching a video is impossible, I just cannot see a thing !
I compared with a friend's Iphone a few days ago and it seems Iphone screen's brigthness is much better. (or is it the material used for the screen itself?) Even though it's sunny, the Iphone shows nice colors and images, when the HTC darken everything, coupled with reflects making the whole thing unusable...
I'm already using a 100% brightness all the time but it doesn't help much when the light is strong. Though it helps draining the battery quicker...
I don't want to start any sterile debate Iphone-HD2, I'm very happy with my HD2. Indoor the screen is just great. I just have that one big problem in my everyday life with that phone...
I have no problem looking at the screen under direct sunlight with auto-adjusted screen brightness setting. 100% screen brightness should not be a problem for me.
Did you use any screen protector? Perhaps different type of screen protector might affect the brightness of the screen, at least by minimal amount.
Mmmh
Maybe the snow reflection and the very high luminosity around here is responsible for this I don't know.
I've always had that problem with my HD2. Yesterday I installed a Zagg Full Body Shield, and it's even worse ! Though there are less reflects (the screen is not so shiny anymore), the screen protector make it even darker.
I'll remove that screen protector, see why here if you're interested : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6255312&postcount=57

Of course you don't have a problem with viewing your phone outdoors - you live in England.
try an antiglare screen protector, do you have your brightness set to 100%?
How can i tell the difference between them , i have a few little dots on the top left of my screen i notice it when i turn the phone on and also when the screen is off.
If it's in the top left, that's likely dust. That's a problem area in HTC quality control for this device.
Also, if they are there when the screen is off then its' certainly dust.
Dead pixels do 1 of 2 things. They either don't work at all so they are black when the rest of the screen is on, or they stay 1 color constantly lit so they are lit when the rest of the screen is black (not off)
If the screen is powered off, even dead pixels don't stay lit.
Also, dead pixels aren't nearly the common problem they were on LCD screens just 5-7 years ago. I remember going through multiple computers monitors once trying to find a good one when LCD monitors first became affordable. It was a nightmare.
Now...you can buy $1000 big screen LCD TV's and not even worry about it.
Anyone ever come up with a solution to the corner dust problem. I have a patch about 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch in that corner and it's so thick I can't see the notifications in bright sunlight. I'd rather not take it apart and wondered if a powerful vacuum or something might work?
Most people send it back in for a replacement
Very simple - if you can see something even when display is off then its dust else dead pixel.
Have been using nokia 5 for a week now, just recently noticed that there is slight backlight bleed on the left side that is visible only on a black background at full brightness. Otherwise the phone is great. Is this something to be concerned about?
Got that exact same backlight bleed at the very same spot too.
me too.
i have also 3 bad pixels ;/
why have you got the phone on full brightness? its brighter than the sun!
Same here
Same backlight bleed issue here too... Unfortunately a screenshot won't show it lol
i have same too
The phone screen is extra bright! At any setting above 25% brightness, there WILL be some leak.
Dead Cookies leave no trails...
I recommend bring it to warranty guys. You might get a replacement.
