The android app, CompareAnywhere, will use your phone's camera to read a barcode on any item you may find in a store, then does a price comparison on other retail stores or online stores.
Is there any WM6.1 apps out there that does this too?
hmmm...
i was wondering the same thing after i saw the commercial, and did some research on the dream. that would be a cool app for my vogue. im going to do some more research to see if we can make it happen.
i have someting like that for the vouge
what exactly is it that u have? wat does it allow u to do?
do a search for iNigma reader
Never mind I attached it for you...
that app doesn't do anything but download other programs if they have a barcode.... unless I'm doing something wrong

This only scans 2D bar codes (sema codes). The bar code on products are all 1D.
Thanks anyway...
this would be a great app and i've been looking for something like it too. found one close, but you have to enter upc manually. google can already do that. good luck!
I might be interested in writing an application like this for Java micro edition. I thought about doing something like this for Android but was discouraged when I found that there was already someone doing it.
If I wrote this, I would develop it in such a way that it could be run on any J2ME compliant device.
Who'd be interested if it were offered free of cost?
Who'd be interested if it were not free?

Not quite... scanlife appears to only support 2D codes (semacode, EZcode, etc), and it just simply takes you to the web site that this code contains (provided that it is indeed a web site).
What I'm looking for is a scanner for 1D barcodes, encoded in UPC-A (vertical lines with numbers at the bottom).
I want something that takes these UPC barcodes and have the program automatically search Amazon or other online retailers for price comparisons. So if I go to a local Best Buy and see a router on sale, I can simply scan the barcode at the back, and see if there's another online retailer that have it for cheaper.
So far, I only see Android with this capability (they have 2 apps that does this actually).
Thanks for keeping an eye out though.
1D Barcode Lookup
I have this running on my Touch Pro and it's been pretty accurate with the barcodes of the things on my desk (kleenex box, empty coffee can). I haven't tried it "in the field" yet.

TouchPro has 3.2 megapixel AF
Vogue has a 2.0MP (no info on AF, but I think it is fixed focus...)
I could not get barcodes recognized with barcorama, however I only tried with one UPC sticker and not under the best light conditions.
If anyone else gets it work, let us know
Hey xDarKnighTx,
Microsoft worked on that concept a while ago and stopped further development.
Just google "AURA" with the words barcode.
I don't know much more about it, although some discussions relating to AURA seem promising.
Cheers
I'm extremely interested free or not!

Looking for something like Fruity Loops/FL Studio. Thanks.
As a producer I'd love something similar! It would be more important for me to be able to notate melodies that would later be exportable (MIDI?) when I get back to my PC. Any ideas?

Can this be something? http://www.warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/index.php
I havn´t tried it myself so don´t know if its good.
The best I found is something called pocket griff. Cost me like $15 USD. Wish I had the site on hand but I'm posting from Skyfire atm. Runs relatively slow but the most extensive I found so far. I'm gonna try those others right after this post.
none of the apps above have worked for me but i found this. very basic.

yup, i need that.
I saw something called Syntrax a while back, though I'm not sure if it would work on a WVGA device. It's quite comprehensive and completely free, but you need a handango account to download it (though I'm sure some googling would reveal some mirrors).

Samsung USA has tweeted the Market availability of GPSSamsungRestore, a GPS optimization app. Tweets have indicated that it is for the Vibrant and Captivate:
http://twitter.com/samsungtweets
maybe , some one using AT&T can help and upload the apk maybe ?
Hmmmm... I assume that it is only on the market in the USA because I searched for it under the names GPSSamsungRestore, GPS Samsung Restore, GPS Restore, etc. and I cannot find it on the market here in Canada.
I am assuming that us poor Canadians will not see this app anytime soon but I have posted a question on the Samsung Mobile Canada facebook page and I will see if they answer it. I doubt it though cause they NEVER answer ANYTHING!!!
Sure would be nice if this is the "fix" weve been waiting for...

You can change the .apk to .rar and extract the content.
If you can provide the .apk we could take a look into it

I understand you can open the APK, but I thought that was only to remove/replace images

As you see this is for t-mobile,
you may need to replace a couple values to get it working on your carrier
hosnestly no need to install this ;
# Does the application contain new values for GPS?
* No. The application only resets settings to factory defaults and then writes data in setting file.

I'm going to chime in as one of those "my GPS has been working fine". Only been using Froyo for the last week so I don't know if it will get worse. However, so far it's been good.

Right so I think what this app is for is to reset the gps so it works and then as time passes and it gets bad again you run the app again to start from scratch so it works again... Lather, rinse, repeat...
Im just guessing here and its not the greatest solution but if thats how it works it would be better than nothing...

I doubt GPS can be fixed as Samsung is showing every day

Exactly. Samsung have probably been receiving complaints by many people who are gps "experts", so they wanted to provide support with an easy approach for dealing with them.
I wouldn't expect new drivers are anything like that, I'd simply expect it to reset the GPS setting file.

Is Samsung was receiving complaints from GPS "experts" then dont you think that these "experts" would have already stated "definitively" that the GPS cannot be fixed?
And if Samsung had been dealing with GPS "experts" then why would they release a software that would IMMEDIATELY be squashed by these same GPS "experts"?
I would like to think that Samsung may be finally listening to us all complaining and that this could even be just step 1 in the right direction to a useable GPS on this device. Wishful thinking I know but I sure hope so...

I think that "experts" is a sarcastic way of talking about all the thread playing with setting that doesn't nothing but changing configurations at random and only A-GPS settings.

Nice
Was looking at these earlier,
I decided to buy tags from RapidNFC as I couldn't see these on sale yet, got 10 of them so I'll stick them to my desk at work, one or two at home to switch WiFi networks etc.
Will, get the TecTiles app to try with my tags when it's available.
I too got my tags from RapidNFC. I created a thread for us to share ideas and the different uses with NCF here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705361
Don't be afraid to poke your head in there and leave some input if you use the NFC or have a cool idea for some uses with the tags!

theres probably a way to exploit this app or even nfc on some devices. it will be neat to see what people come up with
Cool
I'll definitely join in, I'v been reading through a similar thread in the GNex forum but only one or two useful ideas there.

So much for my evil plan. Funny thought though.
yeah as it seems is its a one time 'check' until its removed and crosses by phone again. It seems that you have to set the app up to respond to the particular tag too. not the other way around where the tag tells the phone what to do.
After watching several videos about how awesome this thing is online, I was hooked and totally ready to buy one. However, after reading around, I've noticed some people saying that you can accidentally shut off the screen with the magnet on cardboard. Does anybody own cardboard that can confirm this is in fact an issue? I'm ready to buy this thing, however, that's holding me back. Thanks!
Why would you buy one? There are free plans online to make your own.

I think the OP probably means a kit. I've ordered a kit (ie card template, magnets, nfc tag and lenses) for not much more than the lenses on their own.
With regards to the OP's question, I'll let you know next week as I hope to build it this weekend.
Yes it works wonders on my M8 GPE! No issues whatsoever.

Yeah I did one on a dirt road in the redwood forests of California and it's great to see through Cardboard!
Probably a different format used by the Android camera I'm guessing, so that could be the issue.

the name format is PANO_{DATE}_{Image number}.jpg

Yes i too want to know this..there is no video either. Does stock HTC M8 work with google cardboard or does it trigger the htc dot view?
Should work
I don't see why it wouldn't work on stock htc m8.. I had ATT sense with the dot view case, switched to GPE and the dot view case works the same way. Even the same features. So since dot view works with GPE fine and GPE users have confirmed that cardboard works, cardboard should work with sense as well.
Ok thanks for the input..will buy cardboard now
It definitely works on a stock M8.
The magnet doesnt seem to do anything for me. I push it down and release it to select an option in the cardboard app. But it doesnt select anything. Nothing happens. Can someone help?!
Make sure you do it in one quick movement down and back up or it won't make a selection.
Just wanted to say that sincr i updated my GPE M8 to lollipop, the magbetic switch stopped working. Worked 100% perfect before though so i hope there is some update that will fix this.

Oh really? I didn't get my cardboard until after I updated to 5.0, so I just assumed the magnet switch didn't work on the M8, google even list it as so.
That's interesting then...
Whats even further interesting is that the magbetic switch works with some apps. The hobbit VR experience works with the magnetic switch while others dont
