Hehe.. for about five minutes ago, I had the pencil in my month as always.
And.. swish.. then I just relized that u could drag out the pencil to a bigger one.. hahha (after 1 month))

Doesn't your stylus clip into place and when you pull it out, it always extends before it unclips when you pull it?! Mine does anyway?

Mine does the same
>>> Doesn't your stylus clip into place and when you pull it out, it always extends before it unclips when you pull it?! Mine does anyway? <<<
The stylus also arrives extended in the packaging.
I've just opened a new one this morning.
Does the same on both my imate kjam and mda vario variant.
You get used to it though and you know it is locked in at lesat.

Nope - thought I'd lost mine yesterday and the one that was unopened was shrunk down. I guess this has been a comon comment from customers and as such they have changed the way they do it...
Still it does help to RTFM in the first place

Replacement Stylus
Hi,
A mate of mine has just asked me where he can get a "real" replacement stylus - he has already lost one.... I have seen loads on ebay but these are just stylus replacements and probably don't fit into the device...
Semsons offers "real" replacement styli.
Here's another useless fact:
If you happen to have a brain fart and put your stylus in backwards (on the 8125 form factor), that could be what the indentation around the tip is for. Just use your nail and pull it out.
If that's why that groove is there then I have to admit it was pretty thoughtful of the engineers.
I have noticed that the best stylus is an extra long golf tee. It has a good point, it has enough friction with the tip, it is long enough to hold well, and you can store it in the hole on the wizard.
hmmm, i figured that the stylus locked in the body with the divet at the end... anyone want to test out the theory?
Well I have personally given mine up for a golf club. I find that in addition to being able to use my device from quite a distance I could also swing at it when it pisses me off

Haha...what a joke
No men...when I opened the box of my Wizard for the 1st time, immediately saw the "mini-stylus" and thought...WTF is this for tiny stylus, it just gotta be one that can be extended otherwise it really is ****ing crap
Be careful, I had my HD in my left pocket. I took the bus into town, the busdriver started to drive before I was seated and I bumped into the edge of a seat. My HD now looks like this
Does anyone know if there are spare parts availiable?
Flippin' heck, that doesn't look good I feel for you.
A warning to everyone, put the phone in your pocket screen side towards your body for maximum cushioning!
wiew that looks really bad! i'm afraid there no spare parts yet. Be patient, there will be after a while when more of these broken HD's will appear...

Oh my god, I'm feeling bad for you. Thank you for telling us. Try to go to an HTC center and ask them how much ($) and how long is required for a repair.
How strong was the hit? And is the display still working, despite the crack?

There is also another reason for this. Because antenna is usually at back side, it's also bit more healthy. Especially if you keep phone in your trousers next to your "jewellery" ))

The hit was not bad at all, in fact I didn't notice the phone was broken until I was about to use it.
And yes, everything seems to work alright.
if the repair is too expensive...
I will buy it as it is.. if you want to sell the broken HD
asoebye, sorry to see this. We're all assuming you had the screen side away from your body in the pocket, can you confirm ??
As I suppose if an impact was large enough, even if you have the screen side in, a crack is possible.
Always put your HD in nice leather case
OMG! This sight will give me nightmares!
sorry to see this
I feel with you!
But it seems the screen is of glass. I thougth it was plastic.
when did you buy the phone? if it was less than 45 days ago you should be able to take out insurance...
omg, i`m sorry man. it looks bad. hope you can fix it.
wouldn`t this happen with a leather case? i mean leather is flexible...
guys, just have insurance for your phone and your get a free replacement

Yes, I can confirm that. The thougt of such an accident has never entered my mind. I have never destroyed ANY phone. I got a scratch in my P3600 because I dropped it, and thats what I was most affraid of with my HD also.
But if you have the screen against your thigh I think you need a quite a hit to destroy the glass. The backcover will probably break first.
I think I will have that in mind from now on ...
DAMNNNNNN!! BAD LUCK

Good idea any pointers where we go to? the cheap and best place to get it insured?
I'm going to get CPP Fonesafe, but this is only available in Italy. There is also an UK version with the same name, but it costs 7 pounds a month, so it's not what I call cheap.
This is literally the only thing I don't like about the phone. On my ~3 day old ATT Nexus One, the right side (When looking at the screen), on the side, the plastic is just loose enough that your fingernail can catch it. It seems insanely minor, but it's a huge annoyance because that's where your fingers rest, so it's constant sharp plastic edge.
Is there any way to remove and refit it, or maybe order a replacement cover? It's the plastic part with "HTC" on it. I really don't want to fight with HTC over a return for such a niggling issue
Mine was, sent it to HTC and they sorted it. Looking at the tear down pics, it wouldn't be hard to DIY it.

Exactly. I'm torn as to rather I want to screw with it myself or go through the hassle of sending it in. Did they just send you a new phone and a box to return your old one, or did you have to actually send it in for repair?
I sent it to them (well, they collected it), had it for a few days and returned it. Not a replacement, which I was happy with as my unit appears to be a goodun.

You might be able to get an advance replacement if you ask. Or Google for the tear down, it pops off.

Yeah, I saw the teardown vid, seems to just pull off with enough force, I'm just unsure if I can make it any better. I'll wait and see if anyone has DIY'ed it
Same problem here, I thought I was the only one. =) I agree that it's really minor, but if it's something that could be fixed that would be nice.
Mine sticks out on the right side, too. NBD for me, but that's odd.
Yeah, I'm glad I'm not the only one too. In the teardown vid on youtube they just pull it off with a plastic iphone tool. I'm kinda tempted to try, and see if I can tell what's making it do that.
i have this issue too. to me, it's a minor cosmetic issue. and how will you know that the one they send you doesn't also have that issue?
My beef is the glass on the screen sits just below the sides of the metal.. leaving a sharp ledge on both sides of the screen where it should be flush

Exactly, hence my hesitation to try to warranty it.
I had a chance to look at several at&t N1s and I noticed this too. The bottom part on about half of them had a larger gap than there should have been. Hopefully it's easy to DIY fix.
How can AT&T N1s be different from T-Mobile one's exactly? There all being made by HTC, just of course with different radios.. why would there be cosmetic differences..? I didn't know carriers had an input in how [HTC] made their phones.. if you know what I mean.

It's possible that the t-mobile ones had the same problem. Luckily my phone hasn't had any problems really. But it's also possible for the manufacturer to make small adjustments on their lines to increase efficiency, that's why different batches/serial numbers come out screwy sometimes.

I was at the gym working out and listening to music on my hero. A 45lb weight dropped and rolled right on the hero. I tried to turn it on the screen was a little cracked internally but can still see 85% of it.
The Problem:
When I turn it on it just sits at the first HTC screen, vibrates once and won't boot.
Ive tried soft and hard reset but nothing. The buttons/trackball does not light up.
Ive plugged it in to my computer and removable disc(f drive) recognizes something is plugged in. But when I click on it it says Please insert a disc into the f drive. The orange charge light on the hero does not light up either.
Im pretty sure the phone is done but if anyone has any suggestions let me know. Its about to go under the knife to see if I can see anything messed up internally.
thanks
nick
Haha.........
If you have insurance take it in, otherwise it's time for scalpel and tweezers....
ouch.
There is very little real estate between the screen and the main board, so...i hope you dont have any damaged ICs.
Hopefully you will see something obvious once dissected.
Thats a bummer, man. At least its easy to take apart!
i wouldn't attempt to take it apart, just put it stock and request a refurbishment because that's what your gonna get and will probably have to pay the $100 to boot.
Day 1 in the OR....
Didn't see much, very little damage to the circuit board almost cant tell, but that little bit goes a long way. Went through poking everything like a dentist looking for a cavity. There was a loose solder, so keeping my fingers crossed.
After I put together, the LED indicator now lights up when its plugged in. Im going to let it sit to see if it gets to green.
Will update.
Thanks guys,
Btw: im using a blackberry as a backup, first non htc phone in the last 3 years. This thing kinda sucks

Well, mine has survived a plunge into a coffee cup with nothing but a tiny brown stain in the top-left corner of the screen.
If you have need of a replacement, I just bought a droid.

He may find out after ordering the screen that it may have been cheaper to cough up the $100 for a replacement. Had that issue on a laptop once...the screen costs more than the entire computer. Wasn't worth fixing.

Mine survived a four-foot drop directly onto a concrete driveway...face down. Chipped the glass a little (about the size of a needle tip), but otherwise the phone works fine.
Didn't even bounce. I'm lucky the screen didn't break.

If you have to get a new phone and it wasn't due to a manufacturing defect then there is a $100 deductible to get it replaced (if you have insurance on it...if not, you're SOL).
$30 for a screen? I thought it would be much higher.
Man is this the stupidest problem ever...
The good news: I finally got my DHD yesterday...
The bad news: The battery cover is as bad as I've been hearing. For some reason I couldn't put it back on. So I pushed the Battery as far in as I could in order to put the cover on. The phone works great, but now the battery is stuck inside and won't slide out by itself and I don't know how to take it out
Please Help...
Put your fingers flat on the table, same width as the battery door.
Rest the DHD on your fingers (so that the battery door is facing the table.
Raise the DHD an inch or two and bring it down on your fingers (not so hard that it hurts).
Keep doing this, the battery will work its way free and drop onto the table.
I'll add a pic in a sec...
Thanks James, this definitely sounds very doable; I'm giving it a try now!
The battery has moved about half an inch now!! This is working *jumping up and down with joy*
I got the battery out!! Why does everyone else's battery just seem to slide out by itself? I thought it was because I pushed it too far in, but even when the battery is half way out, I still have to pull it out with some effort...
Maybe my phone just has a lot of "friction"? When I watch those YouTube videos, everyone seems to glide their fingers smoothly across the screen, but when I do it, it feels very fricative...do you guys put on hand lotion or something...
Do not press the screen too much, only a slightest touch is needed. Also if you have moist hands, it makes swiping the screen harder.

Probably because its a new phone. You have to play with it a little bit until the oil from your skin lubes up the screen. Then its all slidey slides.
I had a similar problem with my first DHD... part of the the plastic wrapper around the battery had folded back on itself along the forward edge of the battery. That caused the battery to get wedged inside. A little trimming of the plastic wrapper with a craft knife fixed it... YMMV

No you can't - the WiFi/BT antenna is in that cover .
would've given you some extra grip tho
Now seriously, if when u look at ur battery there's no visible flaws that u can safely and/or easily remove and if your screen keeps giving you the finger in my opinion you should return it for a replacement. There's been enough faulty hardware cases, the folks at HTC know the drill by now. If that's not an option, sell it on ebay ( or your local online market ) and grab a new one;]
