News from HTC for USA - Touch HD General

I talked to HTC yesterday about my Touch HD and after a long conversation the HTC rep told me that the Touch HD would in fact be shipping to the USA!!
Also said the phone hasn’t stopped ringing with requests for the HD.
She didn’t give me any info on a carrier. She said she thought it would hit the USA near the end of the first quarter

Hope it is AT&T, if it happens.

i hope it does cause if so......im jumping ship

I emailed HTC and here is the respond:
Thank you for your interest in these recent products, however, HTC has not announced any US availability for the Touch HD, Viva, or 3G. However, much of the functionality and design of these products can be found in devices that are available in the US, including the HTC Touch, HTC Touch Diamond, and the HTC Touch Pro.
I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

well then I guess I know what I will be doing for the next few week...trying to sell my 2 week old touch pro...scraping together the money and importing a 700 dollar phone and activating a new plan with t-mobile all because the good phones will never reach the states

I think it is!
If you remember the diamond originally wasn’t coming to the usa! When i talked to the rep at HTC she seemed very sure HD will ship to USA. Just have to wait and see.

well i keep reading on the forums and on the internet that HTC does plan on bringing something in the Q1 of 09 but, nothing solid...and after handling the HD, im chomping at the bit to order one.....

The problem is that it just never seems to get here soon enough. I was waiting and waiting for Rogers to get the Diamond and after being told be so many reps that they hadn't heard anything or for that matter it would not be coming any time soon if at all, I decided to get the HD. I don't subscribe to a data plan and will not miss 3g as a result. I hate waiting and when I do it always seems to be a dissapointment-they changed this feature or omitted that feature or it is only available in pink on a 3 year contract with a minimum $120 monthly plan. I figure by the time I am ready for another upgrade, the next phone will be here that I want. Of course I will still have to convince my wife that after spending so much money on the HD, I do need another phone.

HTC to USA : No 3G Touch HD for you

Not fair!
"HTC made a confirmation on their Twitter page that there are no plans to bring a 3G Touch HD to the US. "
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/7689.html
Those filthy mothers! I goddamn It!!! its because they hate us! And now I hate them... But i will still buy there products. Ok so i'm hypocrite but Its the lesser of the 2 evils (apple) The HD would cripple there competition.
{Bitter as ****!}
It'll happen eventually, I'm calling BS on them turning down a giant US market with an iPhone killer in their hands.

Is where they say that there is no plans to release the HD on US soil.

Wow... I'm shocked. This phone that half the forum was ready to jump on, the iPhone killer, best PPC phone made to date as some have called it... And they don't bring it to the US. I'm still skeptical, I think they may change their minds.
Well, they did get FCC approval for the EU version that doesn't support US 3G frequencies, so who knows...
does someone wanna let me live in europe with them?
ill ask my aunt.
I don't use usa 3G anyhow, since t-mobile only recently got it going with the Android. So, I'll happily use EDGE with this masterpiece when I get the pre-ordered unlocked european version!
Someday there will be a usa 3G version, but most likely for the at&t bandwidth....
that's wack i think they are missing out on a very big market i don't see why it can't be relased in the States this is probably the best competitor to the Iphone
Maybe they realized they need to stop being retards with pressure sensitive screens and they'll bring one to us in the US with a capacitive screen.

Well, we're getting there with the Diamond and Raphael having capacitive button areas. Now if they'd just do it for the entire screen, that would be something else. Not sure how WinMo 6 would handle it, though. Maybe we have to wait for 7 to see that functionality... I hope they mention something about it at the PDC. Can't wait to go there
This is terrible news I suppose HTC decided it wouldn't be worth producing a US version of the phone as sales wouldn't generate enough revenue. I guess they don't think they can compete with Apple's marketing power/magic/overhyped iPhone
I am very disappointed, I actually feel lost and confused. This was the phone I was going to ditch my iphone for. I could always get the Fuze now but was so disappointed with my Diamond I just don't see how the Fuze will live up to my expectations.
Maybe the X1 or Omnia will be my next phone.
From wmpoweruser.com, find below 3 speculations on why HTC may have decided to do this:
1) AT&T demanded that the HD stay out of USA, to prevent any competition with the iPhone 3G. In return they would carry the much delayed AT&T Fuze. This is supported by the absense of the HTC Touch Diamond on AT&T, indicating they do not welcome good competition to their favourite phone.
2) HTC did not want to draw attention from their new G1 android phone, and therefore decided not to release in USA.
3) HTC thinks the investment would be wasted, due to the local dominance of the iPhone in USA, unlike in Europe, where the seemed to have accelerated its release.
I'm going with reason #1. Apple and AT&T are the devil and the devil's spawn, respectively.
Looks like XDA-Developers is going to have to start calling on some HARDWARE EXPERTS!! Swap out the radios perhaps???
Very disappointing news, but hopefully this just means that we'll get something even better when the Touch HD II is born!

g1 sales?
If they said the t-HD was coming in march they would kill half the g1 sales, I figure as soon as the hype for the g1 is over there will magically be an t-HD for USA. I am waiting for a t-HD pro w/ keyboard. I got the g1 to play with/take apart until then.
Looks like i made a good gamble... i gave up on the fuze and speculated the HD would be months out and got a US Diamond 2 weeks ago.
Looks like i will be using the diamond a lot longer than i thought. Love the phone.
1) I think AT&T is mostly responsible, since they would probably just delay the HD until mid way through next year. And who would want it then if HTC reveals a new and better device? Besides, AT&T probably doesn't want an iPhone-killer that is going to kill its iPhone.
2) Tmo and Google could also be responsible. Judging from how well G1 sales have been going, Tmo might want to get its hands on a second Android device to hit two price-points: one all-around "good" device with keyboard at $179 (the G1), and another high-design iPhone-killer at ~$299. So who knows, maybe HTC/Tmo/Google killed the HD in order to resurrect it as an Android device. After all, there has been no shortage of "Android on HD" comments everywhere, and Tmo actually keeps track of the blogosphere.

Orange exclusive in the UK

Orange can sell the HD with an exclusive deal in the UK starting first week of November untill years end......
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/10/27/orange-helps-itself-to-british-exclusive-on-touch-hd/
Worst network and it's exclusive for 3 months. So I'll have to wait for another 3 months I so want to upgrade but no good phone and the phone I want is on the wrong network.

...but not me
250mb browsing not cool. But it is only exclusive till the end of the year as it would be stupid for HTC to just keep it on Orange.
Orange would have to pay me to stay with them. Even here in the well-populated south east of England their network is the worst I've ever used. There's no way I'll get another phone with them so the HD will either come to me sim-free from someone like Expansys or I'll wait until the new year until I can get it from O2, who have the best tariff deals at the moment and whose network was excellent when I used my Exec.
Orange - if you're reading this, SORT IT OUT.
O2 might not release this phone on their networks, it wouldnt be the first time they havent released HTC phones, they have no reason to release every Phone HTC make, especially if its going to directly compete with something they are already selling, id hedge my bets by renewing my contract, getting the most expencive phone on the market and then sell it, then buy the Touch HD for full price else where.
How will this affect Sweden? Will we have to wait extra for the phone, or will it be released as normal?
I would have a bet that O2 won't be getting the HD ever, they have already listed the diamond and pro in their new magazine with no sign from the HD, too much direct comp for the iphone. As for Orange i have heard that they plan a few substantial changes in the way they operate within the coming months?
Dont know what that means but since i'm with them it'll def be interesting. I have been waiting for the touch pro for ages and it hasn't materialised on orange yet, so i think we deserve the HD!
I'm with orange because I have an old outdated data package which is well worth the money for me, i have be getting fed up waiting for orange to get the experia or the touch pro, so it makes a nice change for orange to ge this first.
Can you pre order with orange?
bollocks! getting fed u now, g1 t-mobile, hd orange, might just end up with an omnia after all **** marketing [email protected]
This is fecking annoying. I'm due an upgrade on both O2 and Vodafone and neither of them are doing this or anything that's a worthy sucessor to my N95. I suppose I'll just have to wait until the new year and hope that one or the other (preferably Vodafone) get this in.

Hero for Sprint

I had to contact customer service for a billing issue and also asked the guy about if the Hero was coming to sprint and he said YES!!! I know it's just a customer service guy and they've been wrong in the past, but I'm hopeful.
I've been hearing that too. The real question (since I firmly believe that the customer service guy has it right for a chance) is when. My guess (for no real reason whatsoever so don't quote me on this) is in August.
That's great news! All I need are answers to my questions I posted in the Hero Q & A forum to seal the deal.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532760
From what I understand, the only company whose bandwidths that HTC has applied for, for the Hero, is AT&T. I was despritely hoping the T-Mobile would be first to launch, but I've heard from many people and sources that AT&T will be the first to carry the Hero.

I am also desperate for T-Mobile to get this phone. I would get the mytouch 3g, but T-Mo got the lame version with less ram which kinda turns me off that...why not just get a g1 and have a keyboard if it's going to have the same specs? It sucks...I'm due for an upgrade next month, and really want to do it quickly (I'm still using a wing), but I want the Hero. The Touch Pro 2 is awesome but I think I want to get away from windows mobile. Dammit!
I hope T-Mo USA wakes up and takes the Hero...If the Hero is launching under the UK T-Mo then why can't it launch in the states? If they allow another carrier to get their hands on possibly THE BEST Android handset I would be so upset. It doesn't make sense to get the ball rolling with Android and then give up the most prized possession to another carrier.

Fellow Titan Owners...

Being owners when the phone just came out, many have found their New Every 2 to be approaching or already here. When the time comes for the new phone, what device are you leaning toward? Are you staying within the WM arena and going with a Diamond 2 or Touch 2; Webos and Palm Pre; Android and the Hero; or off to the iphone?

Stick with WinMo and just upgrade to a TP2 or similar device (key is a bigger screen, at least 3.5" in the diagonal.)
Iphone or any phone on a non-WinMo operating system is a non-issue. Won't want to do without the Skyfire browser, for starters. The app WMWifiRouter is also important to me (turn phone into a wireless router accessible to multiple devices simultaneously.)
Iphone is too expensive to operate at this point - can't get an Iphone onto my $50 "unlimited everything" prepaid from Boost (Sprint CDMA) with unlimited 3G EVDO data. The same functionality I currently get out of my Titan for $50 a month would cost me around $200 a month on an Iphone plan.
Well I have been thinking about this lately...
My new every two year discount begins in December.
I could still use my Titan and wait for a Windows Mobile 7 device with a keyboard but not sure if I can wait that long.
I could get a Touch Pro 2 even though I wish there was a HD2 Pro instead.
Looking at the Pre and Droid as options too...
It's such a hard decision and hopfully there will be more leaked info on Windows Mobile 7.
Thought about the TP2. Out of stock on the website, not available locally.
Signed up for the Droid emails. We'll see what it's like when it comes out. I need a mainly business focused device (active sync, calendar, contacts), not sure if the Droid will live up to it.
I'm also on the hunt for a new rom to flash to the Titan.. (been on an old dcd rom for a long time now).
Thanks for the reply george.
I am sorta in the same boat segadc. My NE2 is up with verizon. However the Pre, Droid and Hero sparked my curiousity equally as I think I may want to jump from WinMo. The worry for me is apps. In testing a friends new jailbroken iphone, the realm of apps is limitless. The Pre, drois and Hero all have good points about them but the recent info for Pre release on Vz Network is not until early 2010. I would like to see all three fisrt hand before I decide to stay with Vz or make a jump for the iphone.

Same here. I would have had a TP2 by now if it was ever in stock. Then I started getting info on the droid and I am intrigued.
The business aspect is somewhat less important to me, so I am leaning android at this point. Though I will miss the htc tweaks...
Yeah I signed up for the Droid emails too. If I knew for sure when the first Windows Mobile 7 (with physical QWERTY) is arriving on Verizon, I would definetly stick with Windows Mobile...
Is the TP2 bigger then the Titan? I need to see some size comparisons.
The more I look at the Hero, the more I am a fan I think. I think the days of WinMo may have come to an end. With my NE2 up now and my contract up in Feb...stay with Vz or go to At&T with the iphone. Like I said, I am an app man but the Hero looks rather sweet.
dont buy an iphone
I was in the exact same situation as you. Out of contract and new every 2 available. Plus, VZ took an additional $100.00 off of the cost of any comperable device. I wanted the TP2 in the worst way, but they are unobtainium (except online for $675.00 ), so I got the Imagio, which I was told is an upgraded version of the TP2 without the keyboard. Not true. The TP2 does quite a few things that the Imagio does not.
Comparing the Titan to the TP2, the TP2 feels great in the hand. It is a little on the heavy side, but I like a device that feels solid. The contoured back is very ergonomic and the cooling holes provide for a nice textured feel that doesn't make me think that I'm about to drop it every seven seconds. I especially like the tilting screen. And once you use a phone with a 3.6 inch screen, you will not want to go back to the 2.8 inch on the Titan. Again, sadly the TP2 is not to be found.
The Hero looks good in specs, but so did the Imagio. If the Leo were to be available on VZ, I would certainly give that one a shot. The bottom line is that I am not happy with the Imagio and will most likely send it back. Then I will be right back in that boat with you.
What exactly does the TP2 do that the imagio doesn't?
yeah... Same here. I am ready to NE2 and I am a VIP member so the TP2 would cost 199.99 less 100 NE2 and less 50 for VIP. End cost $49.99 on line only (stores don't give the online discount of 100 or the vip discount). If I could find one. I called tech support and got to the higest level. I was told they have some in stock to replace defective units but not for sale. They wouldn't give me any idea as to when they would be in stock. Then they told me they would look into it and send me an email or txt msg. three days later I got a txt: and I quote "(Verizon Wireless) HTC Touch Pro2 is out of stock. Will no longer be sold. Thank You for choosing Verizon Wireless"
So I guess I wait or jump ship.
I went to youtube and watched reviews for the imagio and the tp2 to compare. I was thinking to go to the imagio. But after watching both reviews, I decided NOT to get the imagio. If you want to watch them yourself type imagio and look for the review part 1 and part 2. Same with the TP2.... I think I'll go take a look at the droid specs.....
Just call everyday. They get small shipments pretty often.
I don't think I was really into the TP2 as I wanted something difft. I was a fan of the Hero previously until I saw Motorola's Droid. Though I need to see actual video reviews of the phone and test it out before I buy it, the Droid may be the way I go. I guess we will wait and see.

The biggest thing for me is that the Imagio does not support the video out function. Everybody that I have talked to at VZW and HTC say that "It appears as though the Imagio should support video via accessory cable interface." "Looks" and "should" don't get the picture on my PICO.

I've read this rumor all over the place. Currently they are instock online and in some stores. Why would Verizon discontinue an item that is under such a high demand. My NE2 is up in 2 weeks. I almost got a rep to give it to me early. Anyways, I'll be getting the TP2, unless something changes in 2 weeks.

If you can get the TP2, more power to you. For some reason, VZW says (online and in person) that they are out of stock and will not be getting any more. What part of the country are you in? Another user was able to find one in a San Francisco area store. You say that they are available online. When I go online (signed in or acting as a new customer) it says "NEW!" "out of stock".
Scratch that! I just went on Verizon's web site (I usually check it three of four times a day) and it shows the TP2 in stock!
Hmmm. Well, I think I'll be staying with the 6800 for a bit longer. I've looked at the new stuff, but the problem with the TP2 is that it hasn't got a port for an external antenna and where I work, if you don't have an external antenna, you aren't getting out.
Likewise, I like being able to use my phone as a modem for my laptop. Can't do that on the new Verizon phones, at least as far as I've seen (nor can I seem to get Vista to let me do it on my new laptop, but that's another issue.) The new phones are made for people who work in places where cell coverage is ubiquitous - and that's just not my situation.
For the above reason, obviously the iPhone is out too - though I have a patent loathing for the condescending Apple that precludes such a purchase anyway.
you can use something like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4170499 to tether with most new phones.
I guess the external antenna is a downfall. But you could just buy a cell phone repeater amp and not need to plug something into your phone everyday. and you could walk around eaiser.
That's a thought - though I already had the antenna.
There's another link I can use! Thanks! This site is a goldmine of info!

Sprint hd2 - who would buy

This thread is in hopes that everyone who signs could speak themselves to sprint. If enough signatures are put on here i will forward this thread to sprint's marketing team. The question poses out there, who would actually go to sprint and pay a figure of $349.99 with a new contract for a sprint hd2?
i'd buy for 400-450 + a 1-2yr agreement. as long as they dont cripple it or drastically change its appearance.
i want it right now, cash in the hand.
i see this phone lasting me at least 2yrs before it becomes obsolete
I would definetely buy one from Sprint!
Hell yes! My contract is up with AT&T and Im ready to change to either Sprint or Tmobile whoever gets the HD2.
Absolutely!
I would definitely enjoy it if Sprint would consider taking on the HD2 for it's gracious clients without making any crazy changes to it. I just got the TP2 and would have to get rid of it to make room for the HD2. Let's make it happen Sprint, please?!?!
Me too, I would gladly leave Verizon for Sprint if they get the HD2. Don't cripple it though!
I don't think I would leave ATT for Sprint. CDMA is just too crippled. I love switching to the newest phones all the time, and that usually entails Euro GSM phones
I woulda definitely got it, but most likely would leave to USMC by time phone is released.
I am holding off buying a TP2 til at least January at which time I hope the HD2 would be available on Sprint. If not, I would probably get a TP2 even though I would prefer the HD2. If Sprint does get the HD2 I would wait even longer but if becomes evident that Sprint will NOT offer the HD2, I'll get a TP2.
HD2
I'm definatly in i really like the size of the iphone over my Diamond but i don't want to leave Sprint/Nextel after some 15 years...
'Definitely would purchase, HOWEVER, I would really, really, REALLY appreciate it if Sprint were to continue the Worldphone functionality of the Touch Pro2, but include all 3G frequencies. A keyboard would be great, too (a la Touch Pro2), as well as a trackball (a la Hero). 'Just my two cents, but Sprint and HTC would have some VERY F*&%IN' happy customers. Then, maybe I'd consider makin' the switch.
Immediately
i would immediately purchase this phone if it came to sprint in fact ive been waiting for a very very long time and now when it came down to the final stretch i was very disappointed to see t-mobile take the cake ..... BRING THIS PHONE TO SPRINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess no chance of sprint releasing an HD2 ehh? Love that giant screen and being wm6.5 hopefully no "iconic phone" restrictions.
really funny 2 years later I just retired my HD2! It was modded with CM7 but it still worked like a charm!
