Hi, I'm new to this and so I'll try not to waste much of your time and patience...
Today I opened up my htc prophet - or QTEK S200, as it's called here - (for now, the phone of my life), to glue the clip that prevents my stylo fom being always falling by itself.
I did everything very carefully (as I've said, this phone is my old fellow, I didn't want to risk it) and managed to fix what I wanted! (so far, so good)
I then turned the device on and was glad to see that everything seemed to be just fine, the antenna was working, wi-fi was just as always... I thought I had it right, at last (since I already had lost my stylo more than a few times)!
THE PROBLEM showed up when I called someone...
I heard the ringing...ok
I heard the other person pick up...ok
I started talking...But soon realised that the person wasn't able to hear me speaking.
My Prophet's microphone is dead!!
I got it to detect some noises by "short-wiring" (or "making a short-circuit"...sorry, I'm not very good with this kind of technical english :/ ), a (very) little black rectangle, placed just left of the internal microphone when you look at your prophet from behind (like as if you were seeing it standing up, with its back towards you).
But it did nothing besides those sibbling noises...I'm afraid it's dead.
I can still make use of the microphone that comes with the headphone, but it's a bit annoying to have the "thing" allways around my neck...
Please help me with this thing
My questions:
1)What do you think happened to it?
2)Does anybody has had a similar experience...(if so, was it solved?)
3)Does anybody have a large picture showing the microphone of the prophet, so I can check if something's missing in the board, please? (I found a picture on the forum but I could see the mic area too well)
Thank you in advance, you are the only ones who might be able to cure this handicapped phone.
NB: If I manage to take a good picture of my internal microphone, I´ll post it right then.
[SOLUTION TO THIS CASE:]
I actually found out that the "short-circuit" I mentioned was in fact what was missing..
If you look carefully, you may find that what I thought to be a "very little black rectangle" were in fact two VERY VERY small black squares with some soldering dots in the middle. I guess that some component is missing here, but I took a chance and found out that if I connected these two dots with some metalic piece (I used my flat screwdriver), the micro got straight back from the underworld and started immediately "hearing".
So, what I did was to place a little chunk of copper wire linking the solderings together and then, to keep it in place, I made a small ball from a bit of cotton and sticked it over the copper with tape so it would keep its position. Just be sure the copper keeps the dots connected and you'll have your mic again, loud and reasonably clear (as it always was...remember that the quality of prophet's micro has never been such a greatness)...perfectly audible, just as before the problem started.
If you want, you can rub the copper in a small drop of white vaseline (the normal vaseline used for hydrating skin and other things), to enhance the contact between the joints...but after some time, this might turn against you as vaseline will dry out at some point and then you'll be forced to repeat the whole thing.
Cheers,
Manuel Gomes
Hi please can you send me the picture of your microphone, the way you fix it? [email protected] thanks!!

Hey Guys,
Well, I'm a bit gutted really! I dropped my XDA Mini S on the floor with the charger in and the connector IN the phone has come apart from inside the phone. The little metal bit is practically hanging out. I'm wondering, if i were to take the phone apart could i re-connect the little part? (I have a soldering iron if thats as simple as its going to be?)
Just wondering if anyone had any guides on how to take the phone apart and take a look at whats wrong?
Any help would be so much appreciated!
Many Thanks,
Tom
The service manual is hosted on the ftp site.
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Docs_Tutorials/
Hope this helps.
I suspect you probably broke the socket off, but if you have a soldering iron, you might as well try to get a new mini USB connector to work with.
You might try Pocket PC Techs:
http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~unit~UTStarcom_XV6700-554~area~repairs~item~REP-USBCON01~name~UTStarcom+XV6700+Mini+USB+Connector+Replacement+Service.htm
I rang them up about an issue I had (screen on the fritz) and they seemed pretty knowledgeable and helpful.
Alternatively there's a company I found today in the UK. I can't vouch if they're good or not.
http://www.xdarepairs.co.uk/home.asp
Good luck.
Well I also have an issue with my wizzard... the mini jack connector (of the handsfree) is a bit loose.
What I am saying is that it does have a good connection with the rest of the circuit and sometimes the sound of the speaker goes off, then I have to insert the habdsfree and tickle it a little bit until it has a good contact.
? have some basic soldering experience,do you think I should give it a try?
Given my device has been apart too many times for me to admit to I thought I'd crack it open to take a pic for you guys. Not sure if this pic will help for those wanting to do some soldering:
Very large pic: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/216/452691530_f47801708f_o.jpg
Excuse the dust.
Ah! That picture at the bottom is exactly what I needed. The metal but at the bottom (the big sqaure) has totally sheared off....bloody thing. Thanks so much for the info on the repair guides. I may give those repair guys a call if i can't get it to work myself.
Thanks alot you guys
As for you WizeMan, it all depends on if you wish to void your warrenty or not. At the end of the day, I installed WM6 on my device so O2 would give me the finger if i tryed to claim. If I'm honest, I'm getting an upgrade next month so I'm not to bothered if I balls it up! Would be nice if I got it working though....

Let me tell you my news, my friends.
I opened my Qtek 9100 and fixed two serious issues regarding this phone, using... sponge (the one we use to wash the dishes)
1. I put some into the stylus socket (from the thin space it has) and also
2. On the top of the mini jack socket so when i assembled the housing it blocked it from moving (2 of the contacts are no more soldered and i dint have a soldering iron at that time)
Anyway, both operation went ok and my phone is more than fully functioning. Now the stylus is hardly (in a good way) comming out (it first gets longer then comes out).
I wanted to do also the safe singal fix, but didnt find the photos to apply it correclty, so if someone has them, please give link. If you need any info about the "Sponge" Hacks, just post or pm

I'm still trying to get the a new fascia and will probably shove an eraser bit into the stylus spring mechanism to ensure the defect never happens. Also how did you discover the break in the solder joints on the headphones jack? I have a funny situation where the left channel of the headphones doesn't work but I suspected the headphones (the plug has to be pulled at an angle to get any sound out of the left) but now I am thinking it may be the socket itself.
By the way the reception fix pic doesn't load for me either but I unless you truly need it, don't waste your time doing it; I always have all 4 bars and sometimes have 2 bars.

Allright here is the deal.
1. I found out the break in the soldier joints when i opened it. I was really suspicious about it because when i inserted my headphone jack into the connector, i had problem with the contact; the connector was loose and it muted my phones speaker. When i disassembled the phone using the service manual i saw with my eyes that the the joins where f-ed up.
2. I dont really need the signal hack i just wanted to experiment, i have 2.25.11 cingular radio rom and its great.
Btw i suppose you should better use the sponge, because the rubber may wear off but not the sponge...
Thanks for the tip on the sponge. I am going to grab a used but allegedly "like new" body from eBay and also get one of those covers as well.

it doesnt protect any vital chip, i would have seen that as i have totally dismantled mine before.
i think it was something to do with voulme slider but its been over a year since i took my prophet apart lol so i cant remember.
if it works and nothings different then is it a problem? its always a bummer when you have a "screw or bolt" left over isnt it
Hi.thank you for your response. In reality,is all working so i dont go on dismantling the phone to put the pieçe in plaçe sinçe this isnt as easy to deasemble as a nokia.Deasembling this phone is a tricky job and i may end with a broken phone.
wish you well to you all.
Help!!! I had to dismantle my Polaris in order to replace the little plastic piece that keeps the SD Card slot closed to avoid the dust.
When I opened the case, the SIM card ribbon got disconnected, but I put it back tightly into the slot again before closing it again.
When I booted up, it said SIM Card is missing. It's like hell! I opened lots of times and nothing works. The SIM slot appears to have a GND connection to the main board and it comes with a little piece like a pillow that sits between the two pieces (SIM slot and main board). It makes contact when you close the case, and I think it's alright.
What can I do? Did somebody have the same problem? Any technician here?

I had the same problem, I had to buy a new sim reader, and replace it, you probably damaged the flat cable. I replaced it and now it's ok.

Hello! Thanks for your answer. I'm alone with this...
I've just ordered a SIM reader to the website you told me above. But I'm worried about having bought it, because I actually don't know whether the SIM reader is broken or not. Is there any way to know if it's the data cable or the GND signal?
It's so strange...! I just opened the case, and the ribbon got out, but I didn't force it. Is it so weak?

Is I believe it's very weak, i Didn't force it either, I believe you can check the continuity of the contacts on the sim reader to the end of the flat cable. mine was broken, but i didn't know how, I was very carefuller.
Good luck

Thanks a lot! I think my cable is fine, not much straight, but intact. I contacted a technical support service that fixed my Polaris a few months ago, and they say it's pretty common to have a problem like ours. The guy there told me that it's sometimes the socket that fails, due to an abrupt move while removing the upper case.
For the moment, I cross my fingers until I receive the new SIM reader. I know how to install it, but... if it's the socket what is broken, so long, Polaris
It will be the sim reader, you´ll see.
Say something when you fix it.
Cheers

Did this error appear after opening the device or ocurred all of a sudden?
all of a sudden... and they don't want to repair it because there is some small gray smudge on the screen classified under "mechanical problems".
Did you have any success replacing the sim card reader?
I think I am going to buy the above mentioned sim card reader and replace it myself... hopefully it is ii what's making the problem.
Hello
Same problem here after changing the full face houseplate but I realise that the sim flex cable is broken. With a large amount of patient I managed to fold it and put a little of fixo tape on it and now is working. Anyway I know that I should buy another sim holder soon.
Saludos
I got it! As soon as the new SIM card reader was put it recognized the SIM card! So I think the problem was a broken line in the data ribbon.
I bought the SIM card reader from the link above. Thanks A LOT!! and thanks for the link, @afsc !!!
My Polaris is back again to life.

Good to know that your Polaris is working again.
By the way where did you get the little plastic piece that keeps the SD Card slot closed? Mine is in a bad state, and i would like to replace it.

For me replacing SIM card reader worked as well. I must add that Orbit 2 is much harder to dismantle compared to Polaris.
a while back i loaded android froyo build (the desire port) and it ran fine for about a month, then the all too common touchscreen fail happened in november while running android.
Llast night out of curiosity i charged it and it booted to the windows 6.5 lock screen and it was still unresponsive. i then pressed the call and end buttons at the same time repeatedly whilst attempting to slide the unlock on the screen and after a few flickers it worked! now it works 100%. the screen later became unresponsive again and i repeated the process and it worked again.
i just would like to know if anyone could try this on their phone to see if we can get all those dead hd2's back to life without costly screen replacements
if this is old news feel free to delete. i have yet to try and reload android on the hd2 as my sd card is in another phone but i will attempt and get back to you guys after its done.
email me at ej2zzz at aim dot com if you have any questions and good luck
Im not sure if this is a "fix" or if there is anything else.
But by hitting those buttons you maby just moved some internal parts a bit so the connect again. Could be a brocken soldering spot or if clip that its not in right....
If it came again in short time it seems to be just a part-time help

a valid point, but so far it has only happened once more.
i had this same problem 2 weeks ago, beleive it or not the red end button is wearing out it is the most used button on the phone and unfortunately running android you use that button alot more. so in short do what i did and claim it under warrenty. tell them you have done a master reset 4 times in the last 2 days and you are sure that's the problem. got my replacement put in same SD card and booted right up.
The buttons themselves and the mainboard can be changed really easy. The parts dont cost to much money...
Just for the people without warranty anymore, that are sure its the buttons and not a problem that is just solved due to the pressure.
After much to do about the HD2's non responsive screen and after the purchase of a new phone (dummy me), I cleaned all of the fine dust and dirt out from under the rubber switch protectors and the old HD2 now operates as before........great. For my situation, it was sticky (or stuck as it were) switches that was causing the problem. Clean the switch area first.

Hey, hw were u able to clean yours? I've looked @ some videos floating around on how to dismantle my HD2 but it's no pretty sight & i'm scared i'll end up temporarily fixing d touchscreen issue while damaging something else...right now it works but i'd like to clean underneath anyway...

this sounds absurd but the same thing happened and it worked. I thought it was with the gingerbread rom but after I tried this, my screen was responsive. Wow, saved me from time consuming backups. In short, IT WORKS!
Is a strange solution, but works. Many thanks to you.
it doesnt work forever ive taken my phone apart 3 times reconnected everything and put back together then it worked! but for 15 minutes and after the first time i took it apart it worked one day now it wont work at all

solucion mientras presionan cualquier boton para desbloquearlo deven soltarlo antes de que aparesca la pantalla de desbloqueo y listo o si esto no le funciona tiene que desarmar el cell y limpiar el teclado.

Well guys, thanks to your feedback.
I got to a conclusion:
This is most likely a cronic battery problem, since no methods seems to work permanently. I've seem at least 5 ways of calibrating the battery and fixing this problem of turning off early, and none was a confirmed solution. Some of them may work in the beginning, but the problem returns after a few charging cicles.
I replaced the battery with a new one, and this problem got fixed. So it doesn't have anything to do with the software, its actually a problem with the battery itself.
So, only way to fix this is buying a new battery.
Original post:
Well, before anything I would like to say I'm aware there are other posts about this, such as THIS, but the method I'm gonna be describing here is a bit different and didn't find any topic/thread about it, so I wanted to share it.
I have my Moto X 2014 for about 1 year now, and I started facing some problems with the battery. On the last months it started powering off when It reaches between 10 and 20%, without any "Powering off" warning/popup. I didn't try those "Battery Calibration" apps cause from past experiences I know it doesn't quite work.
So I had this method in mind, and until now it worked just fine, the phone is turning off as it should, when it reaches 0%. Also seems to be lasting a bit more. Actually at the 1% it took an eternity to die.
What you will need:
1. Some free time (you need to discharge your phone and then wait it to fully charge powered off)
2. TWRP recovery (or any with a file manager function)
3. Faith
Steps:
1. Discharge your phone until it dies (you can either play some game, or use an app called "Battery Waster". Put the brightness to max and turn on everything (3G/4G, Bluetooth, GPS) to speed it up.
2. Now check if the battery is really empty (mostly probably not) by entering on your TWRP recovery. The battery percentage shows up in the top.
3. The goal now is to uncharge the phone until it dies completely and won't even turn on anymore, no sign of life. You can do that in some ways:
- At the recovery, go to the settings and disable the screen timeout. Then just leave it there until it dies.
- Enter in recovery, reboot to system (normal power up). It should turn on normally... use it until it dies again. Repeat this cicle until you can't turn it on anymore (even to bootloader/recovery).
4. Now its the time to charge it. You need to charge it up to 100% with the phone powered off all the time. You may like to give it some extra minutes after it reaches 100% (just to be sure hahah).
5. After completely charged, plug it off, wait some seconds and enter into recovery mode. You need to go into the File Manager (Advanced > File Manager), navigate into data/system and search for batterystats.bin (there may be also some files related, another .bin and a .xml. I deleted them and got no problem). Select the file and delete it.
6. Turn it on and use it normally as you would. I recommend you let it discharge completely without any midwhile charging. This way you get a full cicle of charging/discharging.
------------------------
Worked nice for me, let me know if it works for you too!
I hope it helps someone

It didn't work! Tried and still turning off with ~30 to 10%... It is a random percent - and sometimes it comes back, sometimes (more usually, not).

Yes. the only way to fix battery drop is replace battery.
I've looked at the fix it ( https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Motorola+Moto+X+2nd+Generation+Battery+Replacement/40717 ) guide for the battery replacement and it looks pretty daunting. I've done some pretty intensive screen and battery replacements but this one seems like a bit much. Am I over thinking this? How hard was it? Thanks

I didn't need to remove the Moto logo on the back as your link says to... maybe it makes it easier to remove some cables but anyway... I didnt have problems.
Also, when pulling those battery plastic tapes, try to leave at least some part of them still usable, cause you may like to put in your new battery so it glues better on the phone. But also not really necessary cause you will press the battery by tightening the screws anyway...

Comprei deste vendedor... http://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-807635521-bateria-motorola-ey30-moto-x2-xt1097-nova-100-original-x-2-_JM
A gente nunca sabe se é realmente original, mas eu comparei com a bateria que veio com o celular e parecia original... também está funcionando certinho.

I tried to change my battery few month ago and i failled because the battery i bought was flat and the one in the phone is slightly curved.
I manage to bend it with pliers but i didn't succeed to give it the same curve.
So when I try to reassemble the phone it was impossible, at the step where you screw the screen with the frame it forced too much (the glass was about to unstick off the digitizer)
So the question, The battery you bought was curved like the genuine or flat ?

The battery is curved. I recently bought the EY30 battery too, and it is curved like the one inside the phone.
This early powering off problem isn't software related. It can be fixed by replacing with a new battery. I fix this issue recently with a new EY30 battery. The battery is flat but can be handled by pressing slightly. You'll get no sound on rear speaker at first. So,I soldered the battery connector a bit and it fixed it.
