Hi!
I have the Sprint theme including calendartab.
The problem is that the tab is assigned to D-man666:s Calendarv0.75 and I'm using Thumbcal as my default cal.
Anybody know how to re-assign the calendartab??
Just edit the manila file and re-number the tabs
Any ideas how I can find the right file to edit?
Can I export it to my PC and edit in Notepad and then copy it back to the Diamond?
The file you need to edit is 26948339_manila, you'll need to use a diffrent file explorer like Total commander to find it, then just edit it in notepad and save back to the same directory.
Also make sure you make a backup

Guys, I was just asked how to prepare a cab file containing registry settings, to save you having to configure your registry manually each hard reset.
Anyway, the process is (relatively) easy!
Purists and coders would generally do this by writing your own installer cab. For this route, follow this thread and engage brain to OverDrive!
http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/setupdll.html
However, the easiest way is to grab a copy of WinCE cab manager.
Install that app. Find any existing cab that you've used to install an app before. Load it into CabMan. Using the interface, remove all existing files and registry settings etc. Set your own Cab name, company name etc in the settings.
Then, you'll see on the file menu, there's an option to import a .reg file.
So: export all the registry settings you want to rebuild from your PDA, using a good registry editor. I recommend Kilmist Registry Editor .
Save each exported tree as eg 1.reg, 2. reg, etc.
Then, copy them onto your pc, open each file in notepad and copy and paste the contents of each into 1 large file, eg RegCompiled.reg. (You don't need to do this step, but for your own reference you may want them all in one place)
Then, import that into CabMan. Now, it may not work - I think you need to have a valid reg file, which is basicaly the same thing you've already got, but with a first line header saying:
"Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00"
No speech marks.
Grab this line for yourself by exporting something from your pc's registry using RegEdit, then load into notepad and grab the first line.
Ok, CabMan should now show the number of imported registry entries on the tree on the left.
That's it! Save, and then run on your PDA.
Try a test run first before relying on it for life and death!

I'm using for this purpose two regeditors - both freeware:
PHM registry editor [Philippe Majerus] v0.70 - for its search feature
TRE registry editor [TascalSoft] v0.90 - for import/export and ability to edit MULTI_SZ values.
There is one great utility: SSnap
Run SSnap before and after installation and compare files. Use any diff program or [my choose, but comercial] UltraEdit
baniaczek: thanks for the alternatives.
PHM is very good, but unfortunately at least in the previous versions, the export wasn't very helpful.
A good reg editor is a fairly essential tool, so use what you get on best with!

I have a question, is there anyway to make it so that the cab will also delete a registry key on the phone? any help would be appreciated. thanks.

The WinCE CAB Manager is the ultimate utility for developers of applications designed for the Windows CE operating system. But it's not freeware!
You might build the CAB online: http://www.supware.net/CabGen/
Well i've been trying to modify the weather cities file so the list will be a lot shorter and only contain the cities that are important to me. but when I try to remove the read-only property with total commander, nothing happens. because of this property, I can't change anything about this file, can't move it, delete it of replace it with a modified version I have on my desktop. Has anyone got an idea? It should work this way on a normal HTC touch, but my Dual won't cooperate
and in addition: How can I modify the register with Total commander? I read here or on another forum it should be possible, but I can't find that option. or are there better programs to do that?
Not sure about #1 but for the registry you can use Resco Explorer
About the weather, is there a way to update the data without using the HTC Home plugin ? I use SPB v4 and S2U2 that can display the weather on its screen saver.
The registry problem has been fixed. I now know how to enter the register with total commander. (use the \ button then go to the folder \\ and there you will find the folder register)
but I still can't edit the HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml file. is there maybe another way to remove the read only property of this file?
can you change attributes with total commander?
That's what I'm trying to do. When I look into the properties of the file, the attribute for Read only, system and in rom are checked. According to a howto I read somewhere, I have to remove the read only attribute. When I do that, and press te OK button in the screen (not the one in the upper right corner) and then open the properties of the file again, the read only attribute is checked again.
edit:
I gave it a try from my pc with altap Salamander 2.5 to change the attribute -> it gives me an access denied error. somehow I'm not allowed to change anything in the windows folder?
edit 2:
Installed SPB pocked plus 4 and tried to change the attributes of t he file with the enhanched file explorer: Same problem, nothing is changed when I re-open the properties of the file. when I try to rename it, it tells me the file might be in use or the memory is full or write protected. I've closed the HTC today plugin and there's enough free space. the only thing is, the file is read-only
No one has tried this on his touch dual? hmm... and no one has any idea to remove the read only attribute of the file?
I have the same problem. Can't remove the read-only status of the WeatherCities files using TotalCommander or Resco FE.
Anyone?
Possible sollution
There is a HTC Home Plugin Customizer. With this piece of software you can modify the look and feel of the HTC Home plugin and also edit in the weather file and insert your own city instead of the preselected cities by HTC.
Here's a link to the download.
http://www.pocketemu.com/download4.html
Hope that this solves your problem.
I have resolved the problem
Copy HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml on your pc do the modification and rename it on HH_0409_WeatherCities2.xml .
copy HH_0409_WeatherCities2.xml on your ppc in the same folder and rename it with resco .
good morning:
before you guys tell me to search, i have already did over and over again. all the threads i see was not entirely clear. some threads say soemthign about having a manila editor and i would need a hex editor and stuff. other people say i jsut use the change wallpaper setting in the settings tab ( i tried, it doesnt work). i also tried downloading a configurator ( dimaond) and it doesnt work. so i want to know, how exactly do you change a wallpaper for touchflo cooked roms? ( please, no vague , shortcut descriptions). i will very much appreciate it. thanks.
p.s. i mean to change only the home screen, not necessarily all tabs, but that can help to.
First we'd need to know what touchflo you're using, TF3D 1 or TF3D 2 "Landscape".
For the first, you need to edit a manila skin file, extract to a png with CFG Editor (search on XDA), edit it in photoshop, alter the manila skin file back with CFG Editor into the png you made, then hex-edit the file and paste it in your windows directory, together with another file that you'd need to download. Aka, it's a hassle. I can't tell you where to download all this, as I don't remember.
TF3D 2 its easier, just need to edit 4 skin files, without hex editing.
Are you sure you want to do this?
And how can I change the TouchFlo 3D 1 wallpaper in the cab version?

thanks for the reply. sorry i forgot to mention im using touchflo 2
but yes i would like to attempt it if you can give me directions on how to do it. i appreciate it a lot.
Edit the following files: (get them from your windows folder)
29cff4fe_manila
058acf31_manila
77feee1d_manila
70083a29_manila
Two of 'em are for portrait, two for landscape.
Use cfc gui to extract the pngs and recompile them when you're done.
Copy them to your \windows folder and you're all set.

I just tried and found hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/shell/rai first time using a registry editor
Using your file exporer (Resco Explorer or Totalcommander) go to Windows and open file called RegEdit (i.e. registry editor).
If you want a faster access to this file in future create a shortcut of it and put it into your startmenu or programs folder
There are other registry editors out there if you do a search.

Actually that's what threw me off using TotalCommander the first time as well... It has a strange way of getting into the registry: You have to go to the topmost level (just hit the backslash top right) and then go into "\\Plugins", then "registry". There, hkey_local_machine is HKLM...
Hope that helps!
How do I extract *.reg files to use with sashimi and UC? Thanks in advance.

Resco reg editor only have the option to import.
CERegistryEditor, download here, you can export/import & edit registry from your PC. Make sure to change the save as extention on exporting. It is defaulted to .cereg.
You can also export .reg-files with Total Commander. Just go to the desired key, select 'Copy' and 'Paste' it on your filesystem to save the key to the desired location.
As you are using SASHIMI, there is a registry editor just inside the programs folder of SASHIMI, and you can use it to import/export any registry, whole key, or single string or dword.
