I just tried and found hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/shell/rai first time using a registry editor
Using your file exporer (Resco Explorer or Totalcommander) go to Windows and open file called RegEdit (i.e. registry editor).
If you want a faster access to this file in future create a shortcut of it and put it into your startmenu or programs folder
There are other registry editors out there if you do a search.

Actually that's what threw me off using TotalCommander the first time as well... It has a strange way of getting into the registry: You have to go to the topmost level (just hit the backslash top right) and then go into "\\Plugins", then "registry". There, hkey_local_machine is HKLM...
Hope that helps!

Registry Editor
Resco Registry from Resco Explorer, last version 5.13, but actually i still like PHM.
I can't even get PHM Regedit to install on my Qtek S100. Looks ok when I run the installer, but nothing is ever actually installed.
As it is still my favourite I have tried a number of times, with hardresets between, but no success.
I believe PHM registry editor is what we called here a "green" software, i.e. you can just copy and paste the exe file anywhere you like and execute it and it will work. So if you have exe file (e.g. from a former installation, a backup or another ppc), you don't need to install it.
Tried again by getting the CAB file instead of the desktop installer. Worked like a charm!
bamse,
Where you put or run the .cab file?
Thanks.
Arto
nowhere in particular : a .cab file ca normally be executed from anywhere...
Are you using cabinstall ? Because sometimes it conflicts with some .cab files. It doesn't work for instance with the icon .cab file of Agenda Fusion : when you click on this cab file, nothing happens... but it's the only .cab file that doesn't work for me...
Hope this helps...
Just copy the cab file to anywhere on your device. Then on the device, open up explorer and browse to the location of the cab. Double clicking on the cab will install it.
Just copy the cab file to anywhere on your device. Then on the device, open up explorer and browse to the location of the cab. Double clicking on the cab will install it.
After this you don't need the cab on your device anymore so if it has not been automatically removed you can just delete it.
If it has not been automatically removed it means :
- that you're using CabInstall (because miscrosoft standard installer deletes tha .cab file once installed !)
- or that nothing has been installed because of an error

Hi folks,
I currently have a problem with file explorer. I opened the windows folder and now I am stuck with the time icon, I wait...and I wait... and nothing happens it freezes the phone. After a soft reset and then going back into file explorer it goes back to the folder I last looked at which is the windows folder and freezes again.. so basically I can't use file explorer anymore? Any suggestions?
Steve
Is it locking up? or does it just need more time to load and display all the contents of \windows. Can you minimize file explorer by pressing the hang up key and work on something else, then go back later to file explorer. Are you able to change directories now?
Are you using a shortcut to launch file explorer
I always use Total commander for file management and \windows does take a while to load. It too tries to open the last used directory but if the folder is not available, eg network share, it defaults to the root directory after a warning. Not the answer to your problem, I know, but Total Commander is free and it is much better featured than the standard file explorer.

Try this on a Registry Editor:
HKLM - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer - LastLocation - 0 (zero)
Soft Reset then try to launch File Explorer again.

Thanks folks, got it working. I needed to change the registery values. The phone was freezing up and even after 10 minutes was still not showing the contents of the windows folder.
Da_mayhem just fyi I edited the localpath folder from '/windows' to '/' this seemed to solve the problem. The lastlocation value was already set to 0 for some reason?
Thanks for your help guys...

I seem to have the same Problem with my HTC Touch (non-branded, German Version). However I do not have the aforementioned registry values. There is no "file explorer" unter HKLM - Software - Microsoft.
Any Ideas on how to get my file explorer running again?
In the meantime I'm using TotalCommander, however TC doesn't support sending files via Bluetooth, or at least not that I know of. I can only send via Infrared, or am I missing something?
What is REGISTRY EDITOR? Please help me that! I m having the same problem on my XDA ORBIT ii

perhaps because that is usualy in HKCU not HKLM.

I know this is an old post...but after extensive searching and frustration...S.V.I fixed my issue. I just wanted to say thanks to S.V.I
I couldn't find file explorer and it was freezing...like S.V.I pointed out- it is HKCU and not HKLM.
I had done 2 hard resets...and removing "windows" from the path fixed it.
Thanks to all that posted solutions here on this great site!
Update:
Spoke to soon...I can't enter my Windows folder at all using file explorer- I could earlier. I can enter anywhere else...just not my Window folder...I can with Resco explorer. I have to apply S.V.I suggestion to stop it from freezing...but magically-"\windows" keeps re-appearing in my registry.
Update:
Found another solution that actually worked for me!
open File Explorer
Click on Menu>Sort> change it to Name
I think i know the solution
i too have experienced the same problem like this. but then this is what i do. and it's surprisingly works.
1) soft reset your phone
2) click on file explorer again
3) the loading symbol will always appear, but for now just let it be.
4) close the file explorer by tapping 'hang up' key/button. this will supposedly bring you back to home screen
5) wait for half an hour or longer
6) open file explorer
7) the windows folder loaded successfully
Typos
Ayobi's solution worked.
I have a HTC Diamond 2 WM6.5. File explorer froze as I sorted the files in the Windows folder. Exactly followed Ayobi's suggestion. Got out of the mess.
I won't visit Windows folder again!!!
Thanks Ayobi and others for their suggestions.
Jay.

This definitely worked - on a related note you can go into Registry Editor (HKCU - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer) and change the SortOrder value to anything but 2 (apparently 2 is for Type). Soft reset and reload the program, and it should load a lot faster.

I had same problem, because I tried to sort Windows folder by file Type. Oops.
I know it's an old post, but here's my two cents (because this thread guided me to a slightly modified resolution.)
My resolution on Tilt2 TP2 WinMo 6.5 was found here:
HKCU - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer - LastLocation - 0 (zero)
HKCU - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer - LastPath - \ (slash)
HKCU - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer - SortOrder - 1
That did the trick for me. Was able to open File Explorer. Strangely, it took me to the Windows folder again; but didn't hang this time. Maybe because I skipped soft reset (so maybe registry change may not have taken effect entirely?)
I know alot of chefs have there own icon sets for thing like the program menus and setting and things. I also no that the settings for these are linked by an "icon.lnk" file to a dll file in the windows directory. I need help trying to edit these icon's, Whether it is through the dll file or there is another round about way.
A play by play would be great, thanks in advanced.
(i have already tried editing through a dll editor and connot seem to find a program that doesn't have an error trying to edit it (everything from wordpad to Resourse explorer to pe editor.)
you can use icon changer http://www.shelllabs.com/
pull the exe file off your device. then load it into icon changer. change the icon then put it back on your device overwriting the old one. this will change the physical icon of that program.
i have used it several times and it works great.

Thanks

You can edit a DLL with reasourse hacker. You just need the UNSIGNER, and MSSIGNER. first you unsign, then you edit and save, then you sign.
simpler than you think. the hard part is looking for graphics
SK Shortcut Manager
SK Shortcut Manager does the trick for me

BUT, it's paid...
Also i've found DLL file with many (400) old school icons (attached with this post).
A little preview: http://www.wenzlaff.de/download/twicon/twicon3.jpg
U can use also your windows DLL files (shell32.dll).
That's the way i manage all my icons
Hope this helped you

I happily own a HD since Thursday after a Diamond and a Pro: HD is far better!!
I tried the utility posted in the diamond forum to change the default links to time and calendar, it does not work, after the patch the TF loops without starting.
Did anyone try already?

This seems to be a very great tool but I've only experimented with remapping my calendar.
Disable TF3D
Run SSMaPa.exe from phone
Check Extended Init and press Init
Click on setting and highlight replace calendar
Check "patch enabled"
Under new program type in the path of pocketinformant
-In my case it was /Program Files/WebIS/PocketInformant/PocketInformant.exe
Delete arguments
Type in directory where exe file found
-In my case it was /Program Files/WebIS/PocketInformant/
Click save
Click deploy tab and press deploy patch
Next you will need to copu these 2 files from your TP windows directory using activesync and resco explorer or a similar program to a folder on your PC.
_mpmantoday.dll and _mpman.exe
Next download file editor from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?p=2721128
Unzip folder to extract files
Once unzipped open Unsign folder and drag your two extracted files one by one over Unsigner.exe. Very quickly a msdos window will open up and it will seem as if nothing has happened but don't worry the files have been modified at this point.
Now just overwrite the 2 files with the same 2 files in your TP windows directory.
Go into your settings and reenable TF3D and you should hopefully have remapped the original calendar app with PocketInformant.
All donations, thanks, beer, coffee, women, kudos should go to Svenso and Schreda over at xda since this was done using their apps and help. I'm not worthy and only a messenger of my good fortune.
Edit: Just in case I've confused people, this is the post that made it all happen http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=208

Don't forget to unsign the changed files with the unsign.exe of the file editor tool - otherwise TF3D won't start!!!

Folks,
I've done a search but can't find what i'm looking for. Basically, i'm looking to delete some words from the predictive dictionary that have ended up being added by mistake.
Does anyone know where I'll find the dictionary file on the phone.
Thanks
Bump....Anyone???
Unzip and copy this .exe to your phone and you can edit/delete words in your T9 mate!
Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
It's great! I got the same problem and now can slove it with this tool. Many thanks!
Actually, this program should already be on your Topaz, in Windows - so you can just run it (use File Explorer to find it) and delete any words you wish.
