SE has had some reaaalllly crappy programmers do their stuff....
___________________________________________________________________
PANEL SELECTION/MAXIMIZATION
Slow/laggy by default, but boosted after opening/closing Panel Settings mode.
Please vote in the poll: On the Panels main screen, after tapping the Panel Settings button, and then tapping the Back button, opening a Panel is faster/more robust, and has a higher framerate. Any subsequent Panel maximization is slow/laggy once again.
___________________________________________________________________
PANEL TRANSITION BETWEEN PORTRAIT/LANDSCAPE MODE
Slow/laggy by default, but boosted after closing cprog.exe. Use the program Task Manager by FdcSoft (http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm) and assuming you aren't running anything on your XPERIA (i.e. not running TouchFLO or anything heavy duty), tap and hold on the cprog.exe process in Task Manager and choose the Terminate option. After you choose Yes, the four-color circle will probably spin forever so just tap the X button to close off the Task Manager.
Please vote in the poll: Press the PANEL button on your XPERIA and slide open/close your keyboard. Notice how your panels transition completely lag-free!
NOTE: I am using XperiaTweak v2.0 with 16MB allocated (supposedly) to Panel glyphs.
___________________________________________________________________
You should Soft Reset your XPERIA after killing the cprog.exe process as it handles all the cellular phone/video telephony capabilities of your device.
So maybe someone can provide the community with an optimized cprog.exe that doesn't lag the entire device? Maybe it's just a memory issue but cprog.exe only consumes about 6 to 9 megs of memory when loaded..... I think it's a CPU/GPU load consumption issue/conflict somewhere.
Notice how the XPERIA Panels CAB for the HTC Touch HD functions as smoothly as your XPERIA when doing this experiment on your XPERIA..... Otherwise the Touch HD by default outperforms the XPERIA with the Panels.
why does this need a poll?
youve lost me, youre complaining because you cant close one of the core elements of the operating system?

Huh? This an issue or a solution?
worst thread ever
what the hell is this?
HI
yes i totally agree with you... it seems stange that this is making the transition slower from portrait to landscape... hope they can bring a fix for this...
ps. are you sure CPROG.exe needs to be running?

Joel
LOL! Sorry if things seemed all over the place. (I posted a poll to see if my findings are consistent).
I have two points that I wanted to make:
1. My thread proves that the cause for slow functionality of the entire Panels interface can be solved by more optimized coding/memory management, which leaves the doors option for improved performance should Sony Ericsson feel like releasing a firmware update.
2. Since the slow Panels functionality can be resolved by changes in operation/software, this could encourage developers/tweakers/hackers out there to seek out a way to optimize the XPERIA's operation.
Yes, I am certain that your Phone interface will not work without cprog.exe (try launching "Phone" and you will see that nothing works, or, that maybe it would open up cprog.exe once again).
I disagree, this wasn't a "GOOD READ" and there are no optimization hints.
You are correct.
With these things it works better.
I do withness a bit a hang up of the deviece after using a panel and pressing pannel button to change the panel. My phone in some cases hangs.
the "optimization hints" aspect is that this post guides developers on the right path for what to look for in optimizing the performance of the Panel interface.... like asking the question: what happens in the memory space when you go to Settings mode and back to Normal mode, which causes better Performance? Debugging and such could help....
Someone tried using mortscript??
kill cprog.exe
start panelmanager.exe
after click
start cprog.exe
????
Hehe. it may be a workaround but it's not a viable solution. Disabling your phone capabilities and re-enabling them every time you access that Panels is not feasible. Not to mention it takes a lot of processing to start up cprog.exe ....

Well, when you close it. Not all the things close.
cprog.exe excist from many files. If we find the file what causes the panel to be slow we can take a look at it, and check if it is a important file.....
good find was very fast to **** between the pannels and when i opened the keyboard and closed it
initially i was like wtf then after like 30 secs all seemed fast and seemless ( made me wanna style on my miss's as she has a w960i lol)
I've installed Itje's Blackstone ROM. + The panel cabs.
Since yesterday, my panels havn't frozed to death. And they work faster than on xperia based rom......
hehe well it's not so much a "solution" installing a whole other ROM to escape such problems
cprog.exe loads about 67 DLL files as shown by Task Manager (the program's link is in the first post)....
so good luck finding where the lag comes from hahahaa.
I tried disabling video telephony support using Advanced Configuration 3.3 or whatever the latest version is. the lag was still there...
Good post, could be the start of the solution. The optimization has to come from the community of users since i'm sure SE can't be bothered.

Any suggestion for a good working Task Manager software?
THX so much!

I use Vidya Task Manager
Taskmanegement
I use the Wisbar Advence 2.4.1.9 beta from the forum. I like it.
I installed spb pocketplus 3.0 but it really slowed down my device. Resetting takes longer but also when answering an incoming call the device does not react for a couple of seconds so I am unable to answer the call during that time.
Anyone knows a lightweight 'real close button' application?
pocket plus - which version for universal ?
Hello, - which version of pocket plus you have managed to install? the only one which is working for me is 3006 beta. Official release does not want to install on the universal.
Re: Taskmanegement
@rilot
I have tried it too...but what about battery usage? Does it drain battery?
I have noticed that task manager applications, unfortunately, don't have any effect on "Ok" keyborad bottun functionality. So that you have always to use on screen command to close applications in background. Can You confirm this for Vidya Task Manager o does it improve "Ok" keyborad bottun functionality too ?
Ahhh. I thought you meant a task manager like Windows Task manager that shows all running processes.
For closing things using the OK button or the cross I use SPB Pocket Plus 3.0.
I stoppe SPB Beta 3 WM5
It slowed the phone way down, and was partly repsonsible for the Skype issues. It is deciving though because it seems to work at first look, but it is filled with Bugs. I am looking for another solution too.

ok but also Vidya Task Manager can close things...but have you verified if it acts on ok keyboard button too? I mean that if you push ok button to close an applications does it stay in background or does is it close it?

Version 3.something, I had no problems with the install. and the close button really closed the applications but the side-effects were not acceptable.

Does Vidya Task Manager adds 'real close' functionality to the X button (i don;t see it mentioned in the feature list)?

No, it's just a task manager.
MagicButton is quite good if you just want a close button and a simple task manager. It doesn't look quite right on WM5 but works just the same.

You're right; "It matches perfectly with the current theme." does not apply anymore but at least it does the job. Thanks for the tip. Btw, how many OS versions more before this comes standard integrated? Ever since my first Pocket PC this (real close button app) is always the first app I install. I just don't see the added value of keeping programs active in the background especially on devices with small footprints where memory must be used wisely, imagine Windows XP minimizing everything you 'close', makes no sense right?

I didn't had this problem until today, I added the Memory monitors on Pocket Plus, and everythime I powered up my JasJar I had to wait 3 sec in order to use it, the same for calls, I removed
Memory Indicator
Storage Card 1 Indicator
Storage Indicator
Everything worked again.
Actually I am extremly pleased with SPB3
MagicButton is good, but it has a serious bug where eventually it will stop working and you can't close any open folders to get back to your Today screen - you have to reboot. They knew about it for a year now, but they never fixed it - unless they did so in the last month or so.
HandySwitcher is also great, but I noticed it doesn't always close the app, it just minimizes it. In the setup, the default is to tap on minimize, tap and hold to close. I always set it to do the reverse, tap->close, tap and hold->minimize. But I found that tapping did not close all the time, it just minimized it. If I went to memory manager and looked, the app was still running. I'd try again, still doesn't close. A third time, it finally does. Then I'd try the same test, it would close on the first try. Test again, the fourth try it closed. It was completely random. I don't think HandySwitcher is 100% compatible yet.

Hi,
I'm using "Magic button" on my K-JAM, it's light very functionally and free!!
It does not slow down the system and offer to you the ability to choose how many icons to show on the bar (today icon also) or to switch to classic bar simply tapping and hold the x icon.
Before I used wishbar, but due to the incompatibility with WM5 (for now) switched to it and was amazed by the lightness of the prg in memory.
If you want you can try it at www.trancreative.com
Please let me know what do you think about
Update: (from Trancreative site)
Very small foot print (memory usage). Only 71 KB executable file does it all (help file is 8 KB extra).

pksmania: if you want very basic functionality, check out my app VJOKButt. It emulates the Ok button (top right), but can be used to close apps instead of minimising them. You don't get a task list menu etc (yet, but eventually I'll incorporate something like this maybe). But assign it to a hardware button and it's much quicker then taking out a stylus just to close an app.

I've spent the last few days learning TAPI so that the next version of VJOkButt can be used to replace the red key. Then it will hangup the phone if you're in a call, or otherwise close apps as we do now. So you don't lose a hardware key, you improve it. I hope! Next version hopefully coming quite soon.

Hi there,
Here's a video (click!)
What is this ?
This is a little application that will simulate key presses (on the D-pad) or scroll while you tilt your device. It will soon be usable in many games (e.g. racing games where it isn't really great to use the D-Pad). It is actually usable with a lot of desktop-softwares, like Manila, etc...
The application is at its very first beta release now and so you WILL encouter bugs and IT WONT be stable so try it if you want to but don't wine, instead post constructive suggestions, please.
Here is some explanations about the control panel:
Application name: This is where you introduce the application's name (the one which appears on the top of the window)
Tilt key: Which key the software simulates when you tilt your device to the left. The tilt side never changes, even if you rotate your device. It is based on when you hold your device in portrait mode flat down.
Tilt sensivity: this is a number (between 0 and 100) setting the tilting minimal for the action to be sent. The more you're close to 0, the more sensitive it will be. If you set it to 100, it will never trigger.
Interval: the interval at which keys are pressed. This means that if you set it too low, while tilting your device, a lot of keys will be sent. It is calculated in milliseconds. So if you set it to 1000, when you tilt your device, it will simulate 1 press per second, per key. Setting it low enough is useful for games, for example.
I hope I was understandable enough, lol.
Well, here's the cab file. Enjoy !
I discovered that this little application is taking a lot of my spare time, so if you like it, and would like to buy me some coffee I could drink while I improve that program for you, you could

29-09-2008: New version: 0.03
Not much of new features here, basically improved a little the GUI (and a new image, thanks again to SkizZO).
Improved memory handling of the app and general performance.
Fixed many memory leaks which would slow down your device a lot if you used the software during long time.
This is, in my opinion, the first version where we begin towards perfectionning the application.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
28-09-2008: 0.02.95
[x] Improved GUI
[x] Possibility to calibrate the application
[x] Possibility to enable/disable VueFlo ("VueFlo" is the feature you actually kept using in the previous versions)
[x] Possibility to use the application as a screen rotator. I would suggest you to disable "VueFlo" feature if you use it. Please consider using Brins0's Screen Rotator or GSen if you intend to use it only for that feature, as they will consume less memory.
[x] Possibility to have a tilt not binded to a key
[x] Tried to make the app look nicer, but I caught myself again trying to do things I can't.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
28-09-2008: 0.02.91
[x] The app should use less memory now
[x] Added a "scroll" feature. This will scroll the current window while tilting instead of pressing keys. EXPERIMENTAL
[x] The app would crash in some situations, this should be fixed. Please report any crash issue.
[x] Catch window's class name instead of title. This will fix a lot of issues with applications that weren't working before. Note:All your previous configuration could not work anymore. You will have to catch again the windowses.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
28-09-2008: 0.02.9
[x] Improved GUI
[x] Brins0's-like window catcher
[x] Possibility to enable or disable one selected application handling
[x] Fixed: you weren't able to set window's name with version 0.02.5
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
27-09-2008: 0.02.5
[x] Possibility to chose between continuous key simulation or once.
[x] Window catcher
[x] Added icon, thanks to SkizZO
[x] Fixed crash if you click on modify without selecting an app first.
This version took me much time because I was primarily working on the touch to activate feature. This feature is not available yet, but it will be.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
25-09-2008: 0.02
[x] Lots of bug fixes and fixed incoherences in the code
[x] When tilting your device it will keep sending key strokes, and increase speed according to the sensivity you have chosen and the degree you tilt your device
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
25-09-2008: 0.01.1a
[x] Bug fix: Memory leak
TODO for 0.05:
[y] Supporting as much games as possible, please help by testing your favourite games and giving feedback.
[y] Possibility to set a value so you have to gently keep your thumb on the sensivite touch pad for the app to work
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Known bugs:
[?] If you change between some apps, GController won't read any tilt anymore thus won't work. Restarting the app is necessary.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Planned future features:
[ ] Finding some way to manage with orientation of the device, when an other program changes it.
[ ] Key rotations, means when you switch your device to an other orientation, the tilt keys will also rotate.
[ ] An exportable list of windows/processes
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
[ ] means the programmation of the feature not begun yet.
[x] means the programmation of the feature is complete or on its way
[y] means I am currently working on the feature
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Thanks for the app, gotta give it a try, and hope it is more productive than fanciness. Great
anyone tried this on a touch pro ? any chances of this working??
sadly not working on a 1.90 Touch Pro ROM (or the Application "Programs" does not work??)
Very Good My Friend!
This is great!
Works fine in Messaging.
But, I like to have default orientation when device is vertically, i'm standing and looking onto it.
Better yes, when it is slightly diagonal, like holding it naturally.
I think it should
:notice a certain minimal speed and direction of changing orientation.
:use that to press the button, and keep pressing it while
:the software checks if the orientation has changed. If it did, stop repeating.
What would be the effect:
when I hold the device and move it with some speed a bit backwards the scrolling/moving starts, until I take it back.
The 2nd post has been modified as you can see and your suggestions will be implemented.
Thank you very much

It's a gem of a software for the Diamond!! :-D
I was sure it will be appreciated from a LOT of peoples
awesome with Pocket Player... but i realize that the application is slower than normal. For sure its neatly finished version. THX
Wanted this for so long, Thanks Scotch49. Just dowloaded and will have a good play with it once my kids are in bed tonight. Looks like I will be editing my signature as well!
Ok Guy, i've tried it Good Work Man. if you permit, i'll suggest some things:
-A process/window title catcher
-An exportable list of windows/processes
-A way to assign "general settings" or specific setting, to every windows/process.
....and a repeat rate of the up/down/left/right keystrokes sending by the movement,(naturally assignable into general & specific settings)
...if the settings for each app are stored into the exported list, we can also exchange our configurations.
SensorScroll uses the HTC Touch Diamond/PRO Gesture Wheel to scroll up and down inside windows which allow scrolling (has a scroll bar). It can also emulate key pressing instead of scrolling.
It is in beta stage, please use carefully. All bug reports, fresh ideas and recommendations are welcome.
Instructions:
1. Install the application. It adds shortcut in Programs and in \Windows\Startup folders!
2. Right after installation you can run the application from Programs shortcut to start using it. There is no need for soft reset to have it running for the first time!
3. To use the application open a Window with a vertical scroll bar like Programs or File Explorer and try rotating the scroll sensor clockwise for scroll down and counter clockwise for scroll up. Don't forget to try the touch action too (double tap on the central button to switch on/off and touch the direction keys)
4. To fine tune the application behavior use the SensorScroll Settings application
5. Have fun!
6. To stop, run it again and you will have an option to stop it.
Notes:
Inside installation folder there is a file named no_process.txt. The file contains a list of process names which will not be affected by the application (or by SensorScroll Settings). It already has some entries like opera, teeter, etc.
The application is freeware (and will always stay free)
Known issues:
* Does not work with GScroll ! Both programs act like they have disabled each other.
Todo:
* Clear the source code and add some comments
* Open the source code if i consider it good enough to be open
Search for new ideas:
We can do something with the rest of the touch sensitive area. I'm collecting ideas. We can use single, double or triple click. Known limitation: you could track press and release coordinates, but cannot track finger movement (at least I don't know how). If you come with a good idea please share it and post a reply. Thanks in advance!
History:
* v0.7.1 (20.05.2009)
- Fixed a nasty bug resulting in SensorScroll working with all programs including those who needs to be ignored
- Temporary removed windows enumeration in SensorScroll Settings. I'll try to put some more complex code to handle poorly working API functions in the next version.
* v0.7 (17.05.2009)
- Fully changed working principles. Should be much more stable and compatible now.
- Added support for screen rotation. Read the manual about the 3 key screen rotation.
- Added support for process identify. Read the manual.
- Added handling of power notifications. Now it should consume almost no CPU when suspended.
- Added support for preventing the device to go to suspended state while using the d-pad
- Added support for vibrate feedback for "touch gestures switch", "screen rotation", "process identify"
- Fixed problem with saving/loading settings with non english versions of windows mobile
- Fixed problem with double tap working not only for the center button, but also in other areas (home, back, call, end call)
- Removed process enumeration in SensorScroll Settings. This caused more problems then it solved.
Full version history can he found here
Old version 0.6 can be found here

Confirmed.... Does not play nice nice w/GScroll. After disabbling GScroll it works great unfortunately I need GScroll so I can have the double tap functionality to bring up SecondToday
Randomly the program will stop working (not sure if it completely shuts down or if its actually running, but not working). Instead of scrolling the page, it will start to scroll by each item. For example, in the Program menu it will go from app to app.
Works Perfectly for me.
Thanks!
The Mobile Spoon
Working perfect - thank you!
edit: after testing as already pointed out seems to turn off.
How does this compare with the cabs already out? I mean does it work in EVERY app? I mean I use RRE's Smart Touch Wheel Scroll.cab, but I'll try this one and see if there is any difference.
Kraize - this works in far more applications. It's really an expansion because you can set it to leave the defaults in place that Diamond Tweaks puts in. The only problem appears to be that it turns off at some points. Not sure what is causing the behavior.

Hello everyone,
can someone tell me that by clicking "X" in an app my HD2 will finally close programs and will not keep them running in the background...!?
In my ROM (2013/6.5.3) there is no feature in the settings area as in former times to enable or disable it. Is there any registry hack?
Thx in advance.
Nobody any clue??
Install Dutty's task manager and it will add that option to your control panel.
Another option is WKTask. It hasn't been updated for a long time and looks like the author has lost interest, but it works fine with 6.5 and even 6.5.3. Just disable the skin (which draws its own OK or X button on the task bar) - you will not loose any functionality.
Isn't there any registry solution?
Dutty's Task Manager didn't as it is not compatible with 6.5.x. The setting was added but didn't affect anything...
Try the TouchX task manager. Both Dutty's or that have always worked for me, so you may still have the 6.5.5 compatibility issue, but I've never heard of that before.
For windows mobile 6.5.x try this forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618300" its works great
In fact I do not want a task manager. I just want to close programs and not minimize them. There must some kind of registry hack for that...

No! There is none. You need a programm that runs in background/as a process which monitors the x-button and closes programms. Its just like that.
BTW. WKTask and Opera 10 dont work together. Try installing WKTask and got to landscape in Opera10. The device will crash. Can anybody please confirm this as i still love WKTask (Im on RTTs RTMi 5 ROM with 6.5.3 and Sense 2013) --> Thanks guys
I want something like this too. I came from an iPhone, so excuse my noobness but when you hit the HOME key it closes a program out, not run in the background. I want to be able to hit 'X' at the top and it closes the program out, not run in the background. I just cant believe nobody has made a run around, a .cab or reg edit for this. I hate having a slow HD2 because the proccess keep piling up.

I never said there is no solution. Theres just no way via the registry. You will need one of the millions of taskmanagers out there. I recommend Ameba (close via tapping x, minimize via holding x) in combination with ArkSwitch (complete Taskmanager, can be opened via tapping left part of the taskbar or long press sendkey). The best and most stable solution in my opinion.

Forget the iphone they invent now the multitasking....
Get one task manager and a ram cleaner(optional) and go with multitasking!!!!
You will get used of it
Take a look at Wisbar: great program, great developer and a excelant support
Hi,
i have got a contrary problem.
My running programs do not stay in the Backround.
Mostly, if i push the home or back-key, my HD2 closes the actual program. The program is in backround for a short time and then it closes.
I can see it, i have WKTask running. It is the same, if i have uninstalled WKTask, so this taskmanager is not the cause.
I have this problem mostly, not always but i can´t see the cause.
What is wrong with my HD2?
