After I installed Faria 3.3 rom last week I started getting random shutdowns on my 8125. Today I plugged it in to my computer, walked away, came back and my phone was shut down. For good. I had it clocked between 192mhz and 240 mhz, but it was 192mhz when it died on me.
I bought the phone February 17, 2006, so my warranty is now over Do you guys think Cingular will help me out if I call their handset support tomorrow? But even then, this thing is unlocked and flashed a with a hacked ROM...am I in a bit of a predicament here? I can't really afford to buy a new phone (of this stature) right now.
Trying my best to keep my composure....but this ****ing sucks!!!!
Give us some more info so that we can help you: Please confirm if you have tried the following:
1) Has the battery got any charge in it - sounds a bit lame but just confirm it please.
2) Have you tried to force it into bootloader mode [4 coloured bars on screen] (Hold in camera button - push reset -release reset but continue to hold camera button)
Thank you for your help, the battery is charged 100%. My father has the same phone and I was able to boot it up fine with my battery.
I tried doing this boot you described and nothing happens.
Me too...
the same thing happened on my mda it turned on after that its completely dead. i think mine is bricked too, cant seem to turn it on
Doesn't look good I'm afraid. I did a quick search on the forum and not a lot came up. Maybe it is worth a try with Cingular if it is big time broke I doubt if they will be able to detect that it was a cooked ROM that was on it.
I did have it running at 276mhz for a couple of days last week, but I saw nothing wrong with it. I just wanted to save my battery life so I went back to 192mhz and then 2 days ago it started doing this. The first time it happened, I just switched the batteries and turned it on and it worked. Now this time, it won't turn on at all.
I'm gonna try calling them tomorrow, I just hope they even honor it considering it's been over a year. This is the second 8125 I've gone through though, last August I had a problem with my screen and Cingular sent me another me this one.
Not Under Warranty
I really don't think you're going to have any luck with Cingular. First of all, if it's been over a year since the initial purchase, you're already out of warranty. Your replacement phone that you got in August doesn't carry a full one year warranty -- it's only warranteed until the 1 year anniversary date of the ORIGINAL phone purchased.
Secondly, even if it was within the warranty period, there are ways they can tell that it was NOT running an Official ROM. Oh, Cingular won't be able to tell when you turn it in, but they ship them to HTC for reconditioning, and HTC can tell.
It's because of people turning in their bricked phones under a warranty -- and the resulting financial losses from exchaning them -- that caused the carriers and manufacturers to turn up the heat to make Microsoft finally issue their edict of "cease and desist." Now, the ROMs are gone from the ftp and we have to "go underground" to tinker and hope that the file we download isn't corrupted or full of viruses.
What the carriers SHOULD have done, instead, was return those phones to their owners with a bill for the replacement cost. Maybe then people would have thought twice about making their phone carriers' responsible for damage the user had done to their phones.
Do you think there'd be any thing at all they could do for me? Maybe get me a refurbished one at a discounted rate since I've been a longtime customer? I pretty much just threw away $300 for 1 year of use...this is disgusting...
I just wish I had the resources and friends on the inside that other people do. Hell, my uncle is getting 3G on his 8525 through the MediaNet plan instead of Data Connect because of a friend he has over there.
I have have been having a microphone hardware issue and am having to send my phone back to HTC. Has anyone had any experience sending their phone back what kind of turn around time is it? do they fix your phone or send you a refurb?
BTW I am in the US
Thanks Dave
Expect it to take at least a month from experience!
change of thought
The problem has seemed to have disappeared. I was having issues with people being able to hear me. like they would get every other word as an example. But after getting through tech support and all the joys of finally getting an RMA #. I haven't decided if I am going to send it back or not?
any thoughts
am currently running ATT version of WM6
btw
update
just an update, talked to a couple of people around the area and they have been having issues for about a month also. they switched to 3g about the first of dec. and that is when my issues started. I went to the ATT store and they replaced my sim so far so good so the phone is staying put for right now. I will post again if the problem comes back.
Dave
change of plan
Well after a little conversation with the ATT people, they are sending me a new phone. guess HTC wasn't the way to go.
My experience (just for the sake of the original topic) was i sent my Tytn to HTC (UK) and within a week i got it back with the screen alignment issue sorted. Nice.
Hey guys I am kind of freaking out here. I would consider myself to know a good amount about CM but I've never heard of an issue like this before.
I just got new MyTouch 4G's for my family during Tmobile's deal a couple weeks back. I promptly put CM7 on all of them. This week though all of a sudden both my mom's and sister's phones starting having problems showing either no signal or no sim card inserted. I'm not with them right now because I'm in college and I'm staying in my dorm so I can't actually get a hold of the phones until this weekend. I had them test the SIMs on another phone and they're still not working. I had them go in to the Tmobile store yesterday and get their SIMs replaced but all of a sudden today one of them was having the problem again. The SIM still doesn't work on the other phone.
I had my stepdad take the phone in again and the tmobile rep claimed it was because of CM.
I have no idea whats going on. I picked one up for myself as well and I've been going strong on the nightlies with only minor annoyances, nothing like this. My mom is getting pissed off because she's a doctor and shes on call this week and she needs her phone. Can anyone help me out here??
For people like Dr's and such, reliability is KEY, there should be NO reason to have a rooted phone.
That being said, I'd say go back to stock.
I'm not convinced that its due to the rom, and I have CM on there so that she can use VPN with her office network.
If I believed Stock would fix the problem though I would switch it back.
First of all WTF did you put CM7 NB or RC on her phone? If she is a Doc chances are she is not tech buff and won't have time to upgrade the BS we flash addict due which is normal. So for her best thing would be Ice Glacier v1.1.6 and that even goes for your sister also. So flash IG v1.1.6 for both of them and for you as you seem to be aware of XDA which I am sure they don't even know what it is then you can only use CM7NB/RC. Far as signal goes stock are known to emulate signal that is not there, hence the iPhoney fiasco? and the AT&T network faking signal status? Where I am I did see signal fluctuate little coming from stock> IG> CM.
Did you make a nandroid back up before and after root ing?
Send them a tutorial and restore to a point where there were no issues. Them you can look your self we. you have time. Don't forget to do have them back up of data with titanium back up or my ball up or something simple before they restore, so they can drop their data back onto their phones when the restore is over.
My dad and I have similar issues, as he has no time to mess with his phone, but wants the functionality, so because he is out of town all week, I keep a nandroid back up of a point in time where all was stable and running good, have him keep refreshing his back ups of his data so as to not lose wine. the inevitable glitch occurs, at which point in time I right him a tutorial to fix I it, if is complicated, simply having him restore from the stable nandroid backup.
He this helps our gives you an idea.
G ood luck
Yeah I've done that already, they're back on the original root but for some reason their sims are still frying. I can't find any record of anything like this happening to anyone. I even asked Kmobs and he said he hadn't heard of it either
My MT4G fried my original SIM. Since using the one that came with the phone, all is OK. I believe there is a difference between older SIMs and the newer ones?

when i first got my mt4g after about a month the sim card port and memory card port stopped working.i jus unrooted it and sent it back to tmo.y dont u do the same

OK so first off let me say I LOVE THE MYTOUCH 4G..that being said I'm pissed I've had the phone for a month and then one day i get up and theres no signal bars just an x above the signal bar. I call tmobile customer service and after an hour they tell me i have a defective phone, so sorry, holla back, so I get the bright idea to root the phone so I can use another carrier...I achieve S=off and perm root, and have flashed a custom rom( Iced Glacier 1.1.6) I've backed up on nanodroid, and the phone operates excellent actually overclocked at 1.7 ghz but no service bars...then i pay for an unlock code which i cant even input because my phone wont recognize at&t sim card ARRRGH!!! the phone is rooted so my warranty is void and i cant send it back!!! plz any suggestions...
I had a SIM card I got with my hd2 put it in my mt4g and it did the same thing. T mobile Rep told me I need a new SIM card a special one for 4g so the made me a new one well 3 of them I got 3mt4g

I had the same problem. As long as you unroot your phone and go back to stock rom, you should be fine with the warranty. Unless you told tmobile you were rooted. In that case, call htc and request for a repair and send in your unrooted phone.
Even if you root the phone, manufacturer defects are covered. the only part of the warranty that goes away from rooting is software and some internals that you can mess up by rooting (aka overclocking)
id say go back to stock completely and get the phones exchanged. my brothers STOCK MT4G fried 3 cards before T-mobile said screw it and sent him a new phone. he hasnt had a problem since.

Umm, I don't think so. Altering the software and security settings on your phone automatically voids any semblence of a warranty you had. You can unroot and get s=on again, then send in for warranty repair and be ok. But if your buttons stop responding or something, and you send it in and they see s=off and CM7 on there, rest assured they will be billing you the price of a new phone, even if that problem would have arisen regardless of you being rooted.
So I have one of the original Vibrants from last summer when they first came out. It doesn't matter what I do to the phone, update, root, rom, the gps signal always sucks and never works very well when using it as a gps to navigate somewhere as it always loses signal and the gps stops working.
My question is do you think its worth it to put it back to stock and call Tmobile and complain and see if they will send me a new one? Do the new ones still have the GPS problems? Thanks in advance.
I did that a few weeks ago. They said it was a known problem and that they wouldn't give me a new one. I told them that my volume buttons was loose and then they sent me a refurbished one. Don't tell them your phone is rooted.
No I won't tell them it was rooted at all. I just want the damn GPS to work, it was sold to me on the basis that it had gps and it doesn't even work so it pisses me off.
Tell me if it works then I might do the same.

I had the same issue with GPS on an early Vibrant. I don't have a T-mobile contract, I just use a prepaid T-mobile voice sim with data via wifi (I have a CLEAR hotspot).
I expected T-mobile not to do anything without a contract, but to my surprise they easily agreed to an exchange. The rep went through a check list asking me if I had upgraded to the latest firmware and tried the Samsung app that resets the GPS. I said yes, and the next thing on his checklist was authorize the exchange.
It took 3 weeks for them to process my return and get the replacement to me. I don't know if its new or refurb. I had to send it in without battery, cell sim. ,memory sim or back, and they sent me back the same thing in a non-descript packing.
Again, I don't know if its new or not, it looks mint. The tag inside lists "STA 11.05" which I assume means its manufactured in May 2011, which again would indicate new. (There is also a bar code that says 10.08 on the tag, so I could be wrong).
Now to the bottom line. After a day of testing I only see a marginal improvement in the GPS sync time, but I may not have tested enough yet to know. I'm running stock 2.2 KB5. Besides taking a long time to sync, my old one would occasionally hang when the gps was in use. Too soon to know about that with the replacement.
My experience tracking the replacement through T-mobile was dismal. Eager to get it back I sent it fedex overnight. They promised 7 business day replacement and I "chat"ed with them every other day for status. They basically had no information including confirmation that they received it . All they could do was have me refer to my fedex delivery receipt. As they missed deadlines they made up stories, and unabashedly contradicted promises I could paste in from the earlier "chats". Escalating to supervisors was no better. Basically, until they actually shipped the return after 3 weeks they had no information that it even had arrived.
If you have a contract they may have better return processing options. I had to deal with the pre-paid rules.
Right now I'm not sure what I'm going to do. If the 11.05 date is real, I would hope that it doesn't have the bad solder connection that people have been hacking. I suppose I could try one of the other rom's that some people say work better with gps.
I'm also tempted to try and bypass customer support and write to some higher management at T-mobile to complain. I paid $500 for the Vibrant without a contract. If anyone has a contact I would like to hear about it.
But do the new vibrants have the gps fixed?????

My guess is that the phone was originally built in Aug 2010 and refurbed in May 2011.
That cracks me up, "its a known problem, sorry you're screwed" if its a known problem... shouldn't it get fixed??
Imagine if other things worked like that too. Like when toyota had that brake problem lol

Mine works fine after I got a replacement. I get about 6-8 locks within 3 or 4 seconds and tracks my movement just fine.
Definitely ask for a replacement. I bothered them a couple times, told them I did everything, gps restore, factory reset, blah blah blah, and that it's never worked. I even told them I was rooted so I could try different roms to see if I could get the GPS to work and he just said that it was dangerous to root my phone and that I would have to return it to stock when I sent it back. They did a warranty exchange, so asking for that would help. They also sent me the replacement first and then I sent them back the old one. GPS works awesome now, within 10 feet. I've even locked on to 11 of 13 birds before. I don't always get a great signal but it is 100x's more usable than before.
Get Rom Manager Premium
Use it to put the project V Rom on your phone along with the gps fix and then come back and tell us how much you gave EDT and some of the other guys around here for helping.
I couldn't get mine to work for the longest time either but it's working great now. I don't know, about battery life, but otherwise the thing is smooooth and fast.
Wow, so after all the crying on these forums you guys are going with a carrier again huh? Cry, cry, cry but let's all conveniently forget not getting any updates.
Guess the good news for me is, I'll never get to see all the *****es on here whining again. As I'll be in the unlocked phone forum enjoying any and all benefits many months ahead of time.
It's unbelievable.
Some of you will never, ever learn.

I had the same experience with a replacement phone, received the replacement the next day without paying for expedited shipping. The GPS has been working well, but only since I upgraded to Project V.
I got a replacement about a month ago from my original release device. GPS is much improved, but still not perfect. Fast locks, but using it for driving is still pretty hit and miss, there's just less miss. Still kind of irks me, but I guess this is as good as it gets.
my screen is cracked, though it still works fine. do you think this excusse will work in order to get a new phone? I got my vibrant the day it came out, so the gps has always sucked, though i don't use it all that often to be that much of a problem...
would love to hear what you guys think
thanks in advance!
Totally disappointed with Tmobile. Will not make the same mistake again!

T-Mobile has released an update fix for GPS problems on their Vibrant phones. Please search for it online. I tried this and my GPS works great now.
I have seen a few threads about people going for RMA, like the one for shattered screens, however my specific situation is different, hence starting a new thread with more general topic where may be other RMA experiences can be shared.
I got a good 4 months of decent usage of my HTD Developer Edition M8 which I bought directly off htc.com pretty soon after it was put up on their website. However I started running into network and data issues couple of weeks ago, the phone would just lose network and not even calling would work. I suspect it could have been caused by dropping the phone though it had a TPU case, but probably the metal body does not allow give much shock-tolerance.
After trying a few tape tricks, trimming SIM, getting replacement SIM etc, and still not getting it to work, and finding that the same sim works fine in another phone, I went for RMA with HTC. Finally getting them to understand the problem after couple of hours of chats with their Rep. I went back to stock after doing tamper flag removal, s-on and unrooting. I left the bootloader unlocked as this was a dev edition phone.
So I did the $19 RMA with the option of sending my device
in, and them sending a different refurb back once they receive it. They received my device 4 days ago, the status says as much on e2e-tracking-us.htc.com . But I haven't seen any change in the status in these four days. When I talked to the HTC Customer Care chat couple of times and they said yesterday that it will be finished tomorrow (not sure if they meant Saturday). They had said the same thing 3 days ago as well :| So my question is this: is this kind of delay of 3-4 days expected with HTC? or is this an unusual case? What are the experiences of other people here (this is HTC US Warranty).
I am wondering if something to do with the s-off and the network chip having issues could have them spend extra time on verifying tamper status etc. Is this a possibility

Thanks, this looks interesting. I had talked to the customer care twice on chat (I updated the first post). Maybe it does take a few days, though the customer care said that it will be done in one day on Wednesday :|
I guess it might have been better to go for the $29 replacement where they send the device to me first.
I'm intrested in how that worked out for you.
Did you tell them the problem might have been caused by a drop? Did they replace the phone for you?

It worked out fine in the end. No questions were asked to me regarding the phone, or unlocked bootloader/tampering etc. However I had to followup with customer care on phone and had to wait a bit for them to send the replacement back. They said they are having trouble with stock.
