You're beautiful and everyone knows it. That's why you take selfies. Rate this thread to express how the front-facing camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 performs. A higher rating indicates that the front camera produces fantastic results consistently.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I took a few photos with it, I absolutely love the front camera. I was told it has OIS which explains the clarity despite my movements.
Only draw back is the lens doesn't seem to be as wide as the V20, which was something I really liked, I can capture a wide selife without having to resort to the Note 8 "panoramic mode" that requires you to take a picture and sweep across.
The V20 front camera is not as clear or as sharp as the Note 8 front camera.
I'm noticing that my picture quality is not as good as my s8+ it's blurry where in the s8+ those parts are crystal clear.. so I'm confused.. but I think the camera is not as wide as my s8+ ethir the menu on the s8+ is clear and the menu on note 8 is blurry
Poppa I ment to post this in picture quality not selfie

Not sure what secret juju they use, but my eyes always seem to prefer the iPhone pics also. But I generally prefer Samsung devices overall.

For some reason I am not satisfied with the quality of the front facing camera. Not sure why but pictures don't seem to come out that clear and always seem a little blurry. IPhone X front facing camera definitely much better quality. Initially I thought lens was dirty but don't think that is the issue.
I have the feeling the front cam is a mess. Can't get a single good selfie. First gen Pixel is way better..

I have to agree with you. Front camera is not good at all. My dead Pixel XL did a better job by far. I don't know if it some hardware or software limitation. In case of software, Samsung could come with a solution. Photos looks preatty washed out and some times blurred

Yeah, photos are blurred all the time. It's not enjoyable at all.
Also, I have no idea how to fully turn off the beauty mode. It's annoying AF.
I also don't know which of the million gcam mod actually work well with the device.. I always get a black screen.

... totally different to the results of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_rmgrXvGJE.
I wouldn't count too much on these videos. In this one, for instance, low light photo shots have different iso values. So this comparison doesn't say much about noise and image quality differences.
There are other important spec concerning the camera we don't know yet. Quality of af, image stabilizer etc. There is no comparison, where attention is paid to it. The S9+ is supposed to have a slow af (reviews), what about OP6?
I'm also skeptical about the camera of the OP 6. But mine is coming on Thursday. Then I will test by my own. Cannot be worth than the image quality of the OP5.
Where did you see that the iso values are different? I suppose they have not used double standards because that would be a cheat.

Since the op6 had higher iso than s9
wouldnt that be responsible for noise? i wouldve thought if you lowered iso then the op6 wouldve outperformed the s9 since it was head to head
Just got it... just one pic of OP 5 compared to OP 6. Short on time for more pics at the moment..
First pic is OP5. Despite lower iso value more noise. Second pic is OP 6.
The comparison do not say much now. Need to test it in daily life..
PS: don´t no, why pic of OP6 turned around after upload. Hope it doesn't mind..

So you have OP6 Please, try to crop inside a shot with low light or with shadows a little object with detail, i.e. an emblem, a clock, ecc... Try before at low iso.

Figured, in fact it would not be necessary. I asked only for my curiosity. In fact, it is also a stupid test: the photos must be admired in their entirety, without crop.
The photos you have posted seem to me very good, even those of oneplus 5. :good:
1, OP6: DNG converted with LR
2, OP6: Crop
3, OP6: noise reduced and little optimized
4, OP5: same with crop
ISO 1600
OP 5 vs OP 6. ISO 3200 pro mode, jpegs out of phone. Again, not very representative, just first impression
1, OP5 jpg OOC
2, OP6 jpg OOC
3, OP5 dng converted without changes
4, OP6 dng converted without changes
all ISO 3200 to create "worst condition"
(again don´t know why second pic changes orientation after upload... )
1, OP5 jpg OOC
2, OP6 jpg OOC
3, OP5 dng converted without changes
4, OP6 dng converted without changes
all ISO 3200 to create "worst condition"

I find the auto focus to be very bad on the G7. Manually focus via focus peaking solves the issue for me.

Have you tried the manual mode?
I've tried manual mode and it is capable but it's still not in the same league as the S9+.
The wide angle mode is nice but it's not high quality even in full daylight.
And why no 4K60 mode?
With a 16MP sensor I figured this device would produce best images yet particularly in manual mode.
There's a lot of lag/delay when using the camera as well.
I long for the day when we have a 16MP F 1.2 camera! It will be here...eventually!

it would be so freaking awesome if people would actually help the community and upload some real-life photos made with their g7s, instead of complaining about this and that. my two cents, as a future buyer of the phone
sorry
Well, I contribute to the topic of the forum.
(by curiosities of fate, at the end of this article I just got the first update of the phone, which touches certain aspects of the phone, so you have to repeat tests, but for those who take it out of the box is a good reference).
Let's be clear, the photographic quality of the LG G7's automatic mode is bad, especially when approaching 100% of the size of the photo, the final finish is like a watercolor filter, little detail, and somewhat dark colors.
Let's illustrate with the following image:
(the images have been cut to 35% of the original size, I hope you can appreciate the differences. I am not a professional of the field, nor a photographer but here we go!)
This is the default image of the LG g7 in automatic mode, JPG format, the colors seem unnatural to me.
How can this be resolved? taking pictures in manual mode and in RAW format, the difference is very noticeable.
The image gains a lot in detail, but loses in color representation, does anyone know why the images are faded in RAW?, with some patience and retouched in photoshop the values of saturation and vibrance have something very similar to what I was seeing at that moment, although I understand that this is very subjective, ideally the phone would place these colors from the beginning that we selected the RAW format.
Finally, mention the differences in detail between the automatic format and the RAW format, the image on the left is in automatic JPG mode and the one on the right is in RAW, that gain in detail has a cost, the photo has a brutal weight in Size, around 30-45mb per photo.
I hope the comparison works for something and for someone, please excuse my bad English and greetings from Mexico.

I think you're completely right.
These are some pics I took so far, most of them with stock camera (only the last two should have been taken with GCam). Most of them shot in auto mode and there are no post production works. I'm not a photographer at all and I don't pretend to be one, but I'm pretty satisfied with G7's cameras.
Bad resolution is due to upload, I can upload pics somewhere else if needed.

don't buy this phone for the camera. it has plenty of outstanding features, but the camera isn't one of them. it's "good enough", but not up to par with other flagships.
s7, s8, s9, iphone X, mate 10 all take better pics. it does better with low light than previous LGs, but very unremarkable. the GCam port is helping a lot. once it's really up and going we will see what this hardware can do. LG just can't seem to get the software side right.
i'm not bashing it, as i knew this before i bought the phone and the camera isn't very important to me.

definitely notice a difference on those last two! they look great. colors feel true to life.
Is it possible to add the wide angle mode in the GCam?
My g6 get is a bit 'grainy' but detail and dynamic range for a 13mp is at times better than the g7 that are verry low at detail in some shots and some get to punchy that loose natural scene color. Open and switch between camera's is way faster on g6 than the g7 to. And allot of extra features 'pop out-gallery scroll left side-tracking focus etc are missing. Hope they improve fast with a update.

Yes, even I am not liking the results of the selfie camera. The stock app blows out the highlights and background way too much, and smooths out the details.
And with Gcam, HDR is fixed, but the photos appear too contrasty and sharpened.
