You're beautiful and everyone knows it. That's why you take selfies. Rate this thread to express how the front-facing camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 performs. A higher rating indicates that the front camera produces fantastic results consistently.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I took a few photos with it, I absolutely love the front camera. I was told it has OIS which explains the clarity despite my movements.
Only draw back is the lens doesn't seem to be as wide as the V20, which was something I really liked, I can capture a wide selife without having to resort to the Note 8 "panoramic mode" that requires you to take a picture and sweep across.
The V20 front camera is not as clear or as sharp as the Note 8 front camera.
I'm noticing that my picture quality is not as good as my s8+ it's blurry where in the s8+ those parts are crystal clear.. so I'm confused.. but I think the camera is not as wide as my s8+ ethir the menu on the s8+ is clear and the menu on note 8 is blurry

Not sure what secret juju they use, but my eyes always seem to prefer the iPhone pics also. But I generally prefer Samsung devices overall.

For some reason I am not satisfied with the quality of the front facing camera. Not sure why but pictures don't seem to come out that clear and always seem a little blurry. IPhone X front facing camera definitely much better quality. Initially I thought lens was dirty but don't think that is the issue.
I have the feeling the front cam is a mess. Can't get a single good selfie. First gen Pixel is way better..

I have to agree with you. Front camera is not good at all. My dead Pixel XL did a better job by far. I don't know if it some hardware or software limitation. In case of software, Samsung could come with a solution. Photos looks preatty washed out and some times blurred

Yeah, photos are blurred all the time. It's not enjoyable at all.
Also, I have no idea how to fully turn off the beauty mode. It's annoying AF.
I also don't know which of the million gcam mod actually work well with the device.. I always get a black screen.

Hi!
I bought Lg G4 very much for its camera, but my Nexus 6 still takes better pictures...........
First pic is from g4 and second is from Nexus 6. G4 is picking up sunlight and making pictures to bright......very dissapointed.
They look about the same to me. Try some different shots I guess.
I am quite impressed with G4 camera, beats the S6 edge and Priv we have.

You can see the sunbeam on the back of the chair on the G4.
Here is two other examples. First one from Nexus 6, second one from G4. Nexus 6 pic is much more vivid and clear, LG G4 is to bright and catches all sunlight on the picture,
Ohh yah I see it there. Have you tried dark shots with out sun light.
I don't have a Nexus 6 to compare but I do wonder if maybe you got a bad camera on a G4 (if that is possible).
Are you on the latest version too, M?
It may make a difference where you touch to focus too.

This is just different focus points. G4 has laser focus and probably focuses on another area. Indoor pictures are crap anyway especially when shot against bright windows.

Yes i am on Marshmallow. Still picks up every sunbeam there is, doesent matter where I focus. Here is another example. The sunbeam looks like a white mark across the picture, my Nexus 6 does not pick up that at all
see if this help:
clean the camera lens, then take a shot;
i have my G4 for 3 weeks and i love photography ! i have photos that make me say WT...lolololol
exemples:

https://goo.gl/photos/CMxKBp5KfnUeVndN6
https://goo.gl/photos/FkYgDs6A2dQiTNjD7
all in manual mode
You have full manual controls with RAW capability. Regardless of how auto works, tweaking manual settings will produce far better shots than the Nexus 6 would ever be capable of producing.
Now for the helpful less "fan boy sounding" response: LG tend to blow out highlights in the background to produce a proper exposure for the main subject.
Even the G5 looks like this will be the case, as sampled here
Personally, I think Samsung nailed the auto camera experience with the S6 generation phones. LG have more capability, but it's lessened by the fact most users are not photographers.
Kind of looking forward to the S7 for this reason, it brings back all the features I couldn't tolerate losing with the S6 and enhances the camera even more.
To fix your problem (particularly in environments like your photos)
Turn the brightness up to about 80% with auto brightness disabled
Switch to manual in the camera
Keep everything auto, but fiddle with ISO and exposure time.
Keep the ISO as low as possible while making sure you can take a photo without motion blur from hand shakes (1/30 is as slow as I go usually)
When it looks right on screen, take the shot.
If in doubt and you're feeling technogically empowered, enable RAW.
Happy snapping
Your shooting scene is a difficult one. Play with Manual. The G4 camera is plain excellent. Ecstatic even.
If you want to record a video you are doomed, no manual mode there. Enjoy massive overexposure and over saturated colors. And the retarded ois of course...

I went through my gallery to check indoor pictures. Definitely a faulty unit/optics/glass you have there, did not notice the same effect here.
Maybe you (OP) are looking at it from a wrong angle. I think the G4 camera just records what is sees. It's not its fault that there are sun rays. On the other hand, the N6 doesn't capture what there really is. Besides, the net is full of tutorials how to catch sunbeams. With G4 you get it out of the box.
This must be a problem with dirt on the lens or the protective glass, nothing to do with the camera, the camera is awesome. Could even be on the inside so it might be hard to remove without disassembling the phone.

I just own the G4 and I have to say hat video quality exposure and all that stuff its the best. maybe you need to learn a bit on how to use a proper camera.
I'm planning to pick up a G6 this Friday to replace my G5. But I'm slowly becoming aware of the camera issues that are being posted. Is this something you think will get addressed with a software update, or should I wait a few weeks for the S8 even though I'm not a big fan of curved screens?
Sent from my LG-H830 using Tapatalk
What camera issues? Mine has been working great.
I've got no issues at all. I LOVE the camera. Even in auto mode it's amazing. Really really happy that they got rid of the laser focus. Photo attached is no editing just wide angle and hand held
There's a thread titled "LG G6: Is it worth buying?" where a bunch of people are talking about the bad camera quality.
Sent from my LG-H830 using Tapatalk
There's no camera issue, it's just not as great a camera as it should be. If you take photos in wide angle they are superb, but single lens shots are sub parts. It's digital processing is awful. Hopefully there's an update to fix.
Sent from my LG-H830 using Tapatalk
how's it compare to the GS7? I just pulled the trigger the other day and it's coming tomorrow. I could not find any full review articles or videos on youtube with the final software and hardware version. I wanted to see comparisons to the GS7. I finally got tired of waiting for reviews and went ahead and ordered it. Hope i made the right decision. I'm pretty picky about cameras.
I love the camera one thing I really really love is auto focus is much better than the lg g4 was. Also love that just tapping a a different spot on camera can easily adjust the exposure while maintaining a full frame focus. I'm the pictures at times from the gs7 may appear better but it also depends on what device they are being viewed on. I mean if I watch 1080 videos on my low end barely HD monitor th3 comparisons are useless. Sadly not enough pictures ever get printed. Plus wide angle for the win. Sample quick take from the beach on sunday.

Reviews already show the S8 selfie camera is awful too. What's the point of auto focus if it still makes you look like a cartoon and "beautify's" everything. Side by side comparisons online with the Pixel and iphone 7 show the S8 (and samsung) is still awful for selfies.
The selfie camera is a little blurry but not that bad. For 5MP it's to be expected. Yes, it's not as versatile as the back camera setup, but I guess if you're not used to having to plan shots to get the composition you want, it can seem crap by today's standards. blurry in darker shots, but does well enough for me. Using the filters that are on by default make it worse too. (Can't guarantee that the image I attached doesn't have any filters added as I don't remember when I took the shot. I think it is slightly filtered)
I was concerned every shot with the back camera would need to be "tweaked", but I'm surprised how well it does with auto. You can modify gamma on the fly too which is nice (and necessary with more difficult shots). Keep in mind though if you're cropping to 16:9, then it will affect perceived image quality. That can affect the blurriness of the non-wide angle lens tbh since it's the lesser of the two. Both take great shots though on automatic.
The wide angle is the best one of all three.
I attached a photo taken with selfie lens. You can judge for yourself. Personally, I think it looks fine. Most shots are going to be viewed on mobile so resolution won't be as important as the back camera. I don't use selfie cam too often though, but if it's your primary camera, then yes you will be disappointed by the step down and will likely want to go for something with a higher res like S8...
This is comparison of night shots of two back lens... wide angle versus non-wide angel camera... as you can see, both have their advantages and disadvantages.
---------- Post added at 04:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:21 PM ----------
Here are a bunch of microshots. Does it have it's weaknesses? Oh yes. Is it a bad camera. Not at all.
Pro Tip: Sometimes I notice sometimes you have to "zoom in" just a tad in order to get the autofocus to catch stuff up close but it's rare. My point and shoot does the same thing. (Also there is manual focus)
No issues at all with the cameras here. FWIW, I like them a lot better than the G4.
Just because of this thread, I had to try in near total darkness... It turned out pretty clear. I'm not disappointed at all. I came from S7 Edge, and I can say for a quick low light picture, it is a "little" better, but by no means is this camera a disappointment. But, when there's light, it's better than S7. I'm very happy with the phone.
I am having horrible camera pictures. Worse then the last few phones i've had. The panorama has double images and it's wavy. The reviews on youtube says it works good. all the pictures look like the grass and trees was painted with water colors. it's awful. I'm worried about what I"m going to do now. I can't keep my GS7 since I upgraded so there's no turning back unless i exchange my phone but for what model? I don't want a Galaxy with a curved screen so the options are limited at Verizon. I would upload some images but how do i post the images from my computer? The image button wants a url.

I have got a screen shot of my settings. It was done in auto. I used the mode/filter called "1839". Also, if you tap on the object you want it to focus on, you'll see a slider (I circled it in other screen shot) which your can use to make adjustments to make pictures clearer in low light or put your own tweak on a picture.

From a gig last night. The camera is decent. Works if you put effort in it. This is taken with gcam. Gcam uses only the 16Mpix sensor (at least I think so.)

One of the pictures I took last night from my first attempts at astrophotography using 5T. It's difficult to do and time consuming considering its a 30 second exposure.
I haven't edited it, this is on ISO 1600 and 20" exposure.

Thanks.
Tried opencamera also. Images came out very grainy and terrible looking. That shot above is taken with Google Cam. Probably the version which was first optimized for 820/821/835. The one with no hdr settings in the menu at all.
Okay so, what's really good with this camera? I've been seeing so many mixed reports of the camera being really good, and then the whole "oil painting" quality.
I'm waiting for my 5T in the mail, and this'll be my first OP device ever. Camera isn't super important to me, but I'd like to have something that out-preforms my current Nexus 5X.

If you don't care for the second sensor, not much in my opinion.
Lowlight is probably not bad, if you think brighter = better.
All OP5 / 5T comparisons I've seen so far showed a brighter image, but also more processing artifacts.
In my opinion their second sensor is just there to keep the portrait mode and doesn't offer much more as the lowlight capabilities
are realized through software processing. Don't see any reason why this processing shouldn't also work on the OP5's main sensor,
other than them wanting to have a selling point for the 5T.
Some samples which show the issue:
https://imgur.com/4Xa06lA
http://i.pi.gy/R8p2E.jpg
Btw, this is what their portrait mode produces outdoors in daylight: https://i.imgur.com/5x1ikOs.jpg
This is what my OP3 produces indoors with HDR+ (I stopped using the stock camera months ago because of how bad the postprocessing is):
https://photos.google.com/share/AF1...?key=OEk1SkNwQXR3VVhTaWQ5Ulc0Ti1feXZ1WmNyN2VR
There is just no competition.
The fact that most will look at their photos on their phone and that many samples online are downsampled is probably the reason many don't see this issue.
As much as I would like to upgrade to the OP5T, I am keeping my OP3 because of the camera.

I understand what you're getting at. However, your two example images from the 5T don't really demonstrate the issue you're talking about to the severity you're talking about. OnePlus's post processing isn't good and it does process detail out of the second image, but the detail loss is quite miniscule. And that aside, it's quite a good picture. The first picture was compressed due to imgur, so it wasn't really indicative. Also, since you'd probably be more knowledgeable on this topic than me, I wonder: other than the dot pattern issue at full crop, what's wrong with the GCam on the 5T? On the 5, it seems to work well.

picture quality is great, daylight pictures are wonderful, low light pictures are good with a lot of details if the subject is not moving.. if moving they kinda sucks but because acquisition time is long so it is difficult to catch a steady image... but in general in very happy and much better of previous Sony phones i had!
Pics are great
At least the daylight pics are great. I don't know about night pics yet, but seem great too.

It looks like the effects from the sunlight? But i guess you also tried it when there's no sun shining? If so, it might be a defect camera. Mine takes excellent pictures.
Hi, anyone having trouble with macro shots on this phone or is it just me? It seems like the minimum distance between the camera and the object I want to focus on has to be roughly 60-70mm if not more, which is very very far. My friend's s8 can do up less than 30mm without having focusing issues. Is there a setting I don't know about or is it just an inherent flaw of the phone?
Thanks.

Didn't mean to quote. Thought I'd post a few since no one is. I think the camera can be improved. To me it over sharpens in many cases and in low light the mode is too aggressive.

Not with the stock camera app. Once gcam becomes available probably yes.

Hi! I just got my xz2 compact and I noticed that parts on the left side of the images are a bit softer than the right side. Maybe its because the protector glass in the case is not flat compared to the lens? Or maybe because my camera is not calibrated well?
I compared some pictures by making a photo landscape and turn the camera 180 degrees and repeat the photo. See my comparison here: photos.app.goo.gl/bKzgtzV4TZTt2oncA
Would this annoy you? Can anyone try to reproduce this?
have some pretty mixed feelings about those. Is this considered good ?!

Xz2 compact vs Sirocco
N8 is used with Gcam. Both is on Auto mode. Without any bettering.
Here with new Nokia camera update.

okay, now I as able to detect the kind of problem. Its actually has something to do with the focus capabilities. If you switch to manual mode and use manual focus, I found that the highest value (the mountain) is not infinity in my phone but quite a bit beyond. That way its already blurry. Is this the same on your phones? Is the infinity focus setting really infinity?
Photo quality in other camera apps
Hey,
I just bought myself a xz2c - coming from a z3c. I used to take pics with camera Apps like "a better camera" or "open camera" because the shots were superior to These from the Stock app.
So i tried the same on my xz2c but the quality is worse than the Stock app - it's more visible on the selfie cam. Why does this happen?
Even the shots through WhatsApp and instagram are strangely Bad. (Yeah i know that these Apps shoot lower res pics but the difference is huge now. Deffo not how it should be)
Clan somebody reproduce this with the front cam on other camera apps aswell?

I think it is generally a hit or miss if a third party app does well with the sensor on the phone, I don't own this phone but have experienced bad quality (not just res) pictures with these apps on other phones. Why not just stick with the stock cam if it's good?
Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the OnePlus 7 Pro come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Coming from Pixel 3 XL.. I know the P3 is the best camera around but... WOW the OP7 pro has a really bad camera. Pictures are out of focus, portrait mode sucks, I tried the GCam mod still horrible photo quality.

DxO Mark gave it a good score. Either the software update OnePlus gave them to test is going to be amazing or DxO is a little biased

Welcome to oneplus
DxO Mark is a joke. ????
Yeah you dont buy this phone for the camera. You buy it for the performance.
Maybe gcam will make it better over time or a software update but if camera is your number 1 need then this isnt the phone for you.
Oneplus should have ditched the three rear camera system and gone with a single great camera. They need to go back and perfect the fundamentals.
It's a missed opportunity from Oneplus.

Do you have any sample pictures you took? Most reviews i saw didn't mention the camera being as bad as you claim.

First,
Thank you for both pictures, you've easily made your point. That overexposure is pretty killer.
Second, what kind of VW do you have?
EDIT: Saw the GTI on the steering wheel. That overexposure distracted me too much to notice lol.
I'm really hoping their software improves. Can you guess which camera app I'm using on my OP7? Hint: one of them is Gcam with nightsight and the other is stock cam app.

Guess? That's like asking which one is black and which one is red. I hope it improves, BUT I'm happy for the GCam port and its capabilities.

Can you post one with the nightmode on the op7 and with the gcam nightsight? Or was that really the op7 night mode on the right? If yes, then holy moly that's bad. I hoped they would be on par with last year's Huawei p20 pro, but I guess that's too much to ask for

Looks like DxOMark was using a software release that isn't public yet and is supposed to be released later in the month
https://www.dxomark.com/oneplus-7-pro-camera-review/
OnePlus should of waited to release this phone when the camera is updated.
Please note: The camera firmware used for the DxOMark tests is not yet currently available to consumers. OnePlus will make it available as an over-the-air update before the end of the month.

so basically, the OP7Pro on DXOMARK is different than the ones everyone is using, until the software is released we cant really discuss the camera since DXO mark showed over-exposure was more pronounced on the S10+
so i expect that VW picture where the OP7 blew out the exposure would atleast be fixed.
FWIW, Oneplus representative denied DXO on that on their latest AMA.

Lol it was nightmode for OP7 cam app and nightsight with GCam app. I'm just waiting for someone to release a fully functioning ported version of gcam for OP7.

You are joking right? Seriously, it is that bad. I legit thought this is a Pic taken in the auto mode.
Well they might fix it with the next update. Wasn't it supposed to drop anytime soon?
