Start Menu with task switcher - XPERIA X1 General

On my X1 i run the SPB Panel. This gives me 3 ways to get to my recent programs by a single button push. There's the left soft key, the 'Recent' virtual directory and the recent list in the start menu.
I think it would be sensible if one of these could be a CURRENT list instead. IE programs which are open and you may want to activate. I like the built-in task manager in the Tools area but it's not accessible when a program is active. Something on the task bar would be much better, so how about a list in the start menu? There are lots of start menu programs and I wondered if anyone had seen one that has this feature?
Thanks
NB: SPB Panel disables the HTC Task Manager

Have a search for QuickMenu, works great and should do what your looking for.

Task manager idea

I was wondering if it would be possible to have nice fast simple on-screen task manager that is called from long press of home button, for example. Anyone got ideas?
It's not exactly the same question, but is it possible to map a softkey to the standard task manager? (I just bought a piel frama case and it's hard to tap on the task manager symbol)
Or add a shortcut to the task manager in the start menu .. any ideas how to do this?
try here:
http://www.dotfred.net/
he has (in my opinion) the best taskmanager with all the trimmings, but if you want a basic one that just displays running programs as a picture, like Alt+Tab on a PC, download the task switcher from the above site
once it is installed, got to START->SETTINGS->BUTTONS
you will see only one button available, this is called "Button 1" (the call key bot the hang up key) map task switcher to this
then when you hold down the call key you will have a visual taskmanager where you can end running progs etc
hope this helps
Thanks for the reply, I have that task manager already installed in Dutty's ROM, and I think it's great but I can't find a simple option like "close all active tasks" and "define exceptions"
For the second idea, I have tested it but I don't like to hold any key, I feel like doing harm to my phone
thanks for the responses guys...

Task Manager

Hello,
I was looking to find a good task manager for the Xperia X1.
The possibilities I found were: Magic Button, wkTASK and PBar. But I do not know which one to take. I like the 'taskbar' functionality in Magic Button and wkTASK, which I miss in the HTC task manager.
What task manager software do you use?
Request for advice in choosing the best task manager for the Xperia X1.
Thanks in advance for any support and advice,
Mike
QuickMenu. It's almost perfect (almost).
I have problem with Quick Menu. When I press panel button, the panel selection screen only shows after I tap screen.
Doesn't Quickmenu lack the support for fast application switching as with the taskbar functionality in wkTASK and Magic Button?
(taskbar as kind of like in windows xp/vista).
i use pocket plus for tasks it fits my needs, and the programm at all is great on speed, functions and memory usage
I would like to easily switch between applications. For example to and between my agenda and browser during a phone call. Which application is best for this?
This is the best one that I've found. Amongst other things, allows you to manage all those hidden applications running. http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm
i use wktask, quickmenu and fdcsoft taskmanager, all very different and have different uses.

PocketPlus comes w/ "alt-tab.exe" which does the same thing as your desktop.

Looking for a good task switcher & a start menu replacement

Like I mentioned in the title..I'm looking for a good task switcher that should be touch friendly and as close to windows alt tab and also a start menu replacement touch optimized like the one on diamond2. Please write your suggestions, it can be paid software too
i use this for my task switcher. I just mapped it to my long press key. it switches easily between apps, is skinnable, and you can easily close programs by just keeping your finger on a window (you can close as many windows at one time like this). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420220&highlight=gpslover
I use WkTASK, you can google it. It simulates the taskbar on windows desktop versions, which displays the running programs, and let you switch among them just by tapping on the icon.
And it's free.
Cmon man, search the threads and posts, the two best apps in my opinion are:
1. WKtask (I use it)
2. QuickTask (New release 2.8 just came out)
I would post the links, but yes, I''m an ass, search, your title of thread would have gave you an answer.
wktask is not too finger friendly and quicktask i cannot find anywhere...only solution for now seems task facade
Someone has ripped diamond2 start menu?
I think, it's not quicktask.
Quick menu 2.8:

[REQ] HTC Taskmanager improvement

Hi There,
If you ever used the "Close Button" plug-in from Spb Mobile Plus you prolly know what I mean...
The HTC Taskmanager looks all nice, I like it, but its only accessible on the Today Screen. Is there a way to make it accessible even when you're not on the today screen?
Sometimes when you're doing stuff you want to "alt-tab" to another program and this is an easy way to do it, or when you want to close another/all other programs.
I hope there's a solution because it really is an improvement to the taskmanager.
me too
sorry, no help here. I can only say "me too". I was actually just thinking about this today. I've had this phone for a few months, and it just today occurred to mr today that you can't close other open programs without going back to the today screen, only option is to "x" button back to today screen or hope that what you seek to close is in your start menu under 'recent items'.
any help or development would be super appreciated, thanks all.
There is a shortcut in the Settings folder in the Systems tab. However, I expect you don't want to go through all of that when you want to use it. As an alternative, you could use file explorer and go into the Windows folder, find the Task Manager program in there, copy it and past a shortcut in the Windows/Start Menu folder. Then it would be on your Start Menu. You would need to remove one other item if you were then over the allowed maximum number of items in there.
Is that accessible enough?
I'd rather not put it in my start menu cus there are other "important" shortcuts in there...
I'd rather have it in the upper right corner...
You could use WkTask
the best free taskmanager there is (not working on wm6.5)

I tried it and I like it, Is there a way to make a backup of my settings?
It seems the program doesnt work as i wished it would. I worked with it for a while and I like the concept alot, but there's a major flaw. Sometimes when I make adjustments to, lets say, my alarm settings (winmo clock/alarms setings), and when I press [ok] the window minimizes (I set the one click to minimize), there's no way you can apply the changes because it will keep on running on the background. If I choose to close it then the changes wont apply. This occurs to many other programs I use in simular occasions when you need to press [ok] to apply settings.
I would still have a solution to the HTC taskbar though. I think I would prefer it over the WkTask taskmanager.

Taskmanager for HD2

Hello everyone!
I was looking for a taskmanager hd2, allowing programs to terminate a time after you step in x.
There is a Task Management under Settings, but I can not put the quick link on the home.
You tell me a good task manager or add the link I mentioned as actively managed in the home?
Thank you very much!
everything you have to do is use File Explorer, check for taskmgr.exe or something similar, and select under Menu->Edit->Copy.
Then, go to \Windows\StartMenu\Programs and paste a shortcut of the taskmgr.exe app.
You will now have the TaskManager in the start menu.
If you want to add a link to the Home tab, you can see the Task Manager app. in the list of 'Add programs' once you do the stept I've told about earlier
Thank you very much!

you can also use dutty's taskmanager. This is a plugin that replaces the "x" button and really closes down an application

And it also lets you very easily switch between running applications, a bit like the taskbar on your desktop
I used Dutty for a while, but the X is often not available ...
I ended up going back to HandySwitcher. The icon is a little small which makes activating a little hard but at least you can use it from anywhere.
Paul.
Showcase, gentlemen (to be found on here)?
