My dual touch fell in my bath for some seconds..
(This niki as never been tweaked-I regret it)
It appeared to be death, showing only a four colour screen, showing
niki 100
spl-1.22.0000
cpld-4
I am not able to hard reset or soft reset it
(a hard reset shows a black screen for one second, and brings it back to the four colour screen)
I can install the latest official rom upgrade (french) 2.09.406.1
Through Mtty I can boot it up
InitDisplay: Display_Chip=1
Fill RSVD information for block 288 to 309
Storage start sector=0xB840, total sector=0xFA80
Storage start block=758, total block=1002
Total Bad Block in CE: 0
Erase physical block from 1048 to 2032
si backup: Erase physical block from 2032 to 2048
No card inserted
OSSIPreLoad ++
Click to collapse
At boot it shows:
MO4
BO4
R 1.65.28.25
G 25.90.40.07H
D 2.09
I can go through the whole installation and customisation (calibration, input of date) process, some cabs are loading, and then I end back in the four colour screen.
I tried everything: hard reset during customisation (--> 4colour screen)
soft reset (idem) I allways end up at the same place. With sim card and without. Nothing can get me out of his 4colour screen.
I am sure there must be a way to make this @&#! machine to work, but haven't found any.
Can anyone help me ?
Seems like having SD card inserted causes high IOWait.
User 1%, System 3%, IOW 95%, IRQ 0%
User 5 + Nice 0 + Sys 10 + Idle 0 + IOW 291 + IRQ 0 + SIRQ 0 = 306
Currently running smsBackup+ that restores sms messages from Gmail (1 message in 4 sec)
This also seems to cause reported installation issues:
(thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926507)
Installed several times myself... waited up to 0.5 hour.. still splash screen.
Several processes (com.android.phone, etc) got "Force" or "Wait" messages.
Only after connecting ADB console was i able to see that android was still initializing.. waited for longer and in the end ~1 - 1.5 hours phone booted up.
Are you affected? .. Try removing SD card.. does HD2 boot up within 10 min.? .. then probably you have the same issue.
(not really usable with no SD card.. settings are lost on each boot)
This is discussed very often in the developing thread that you already mentioned: Dev Thread
The first time it needs a lot of time - in my case it was more then one hour before the splash screen was away - for the FCs just press the "Wait" button and wait - after the first time it will become less and less and the device will work quite fast (just the known bugs are still there).
Some people told that they had to wait for 2 or one even for 4 hours before the splash screen was away. I had very strong problems with installing and it did not disappear after 6 hours.
If you have that try the following:
1.) data wipe
2.) d-cache wipe
3.) starting in MAGLDR
4.) USB flasher / DAF.exe
5.) recovery menu / cwm partition sd card (1024/0M)
6.) mounting and transfering .zip
7.) install .zip
8.) reboot
hope i got you right
I have recently bought a HTC G1 and now ready to flush any stable custom rom like gingeryoshi or CM6 but sadly it looks like its a bit late now to ask any of these, cause all the links provided here ( I have searched nearly thoroughly) are either dead or not working any more. so now can someone guide me step by step (even the smallest steps) from the beginning that means from rooting the device to the latest andro update (gingerbread)... please is there anyone??? cause in 6 months i'm already in love with this device... with its usability... please help!
p.s - i'm a newbie, dont have any experience of rooting or anything but computer friendly enough to handle little command or this and that... so it wont be annoying...
so i've got this process... looks good... but the downoadable components were in Megaupload, that now shows FBI Warning... helpless..
I) Formatting the SD Card and Downgrading to RC29
(YOU WILL DELETE EVERYTHING OFF YOUR SD CARD!)
1. Plug your USB cable into your computer and then plug your phone in.
2. Mount your SD card by sliding down the notification bar and selecting mount.
3. Go to My Computer and access your SD card.
4. BACKUP ANY FILES THAT YOU WANT ONTO YOUR COMPUTER. VERY
IMPORTANT!
5. Go back to my computer and right click on the drive that is your sd card. Click format. Choose FAT32 from the drop down and hit the format button. This removes all data from your memory card.
6. Once the format is complete: drag and drop "DREAIMG.nbh & Update.zip files that you downloaded into the sd card. (DO NOT create a folder or anything, just put it right in the SD card)
7. Unmount your phone by going through the notification bar and then unplug your phone from your computer. Them turn off your phone.
8. Press and hold the camera+end key until until you see a screen with colored bars, then let go. This is the bootloader. The screen will turn gray with blue writing on it.
9. Hit the end key to start the update. DON'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL THIS IS DONE!
10. Once it is finished press the trackball to reboot. (If it goes back the the colored bar screen and doesn't reboot try holding the home+menu+end key, if this doesn't work, just remove the batter and put it back in and turn the phone on)
11. Once the phone is on, just turn it back off.
12. Now press the Home+End keys until you see a triangle with an exclamation point in it (this is recovery mode). Once you see this let go of the buttons.
13. Open the keyboard and press the ALT and L buttons, and then Press ALT and S buttons. Now wait until the phone reboots (it will do this automatically once the update is applied) (Don't worry if you see picture of a box and a g1 or a chip with an arrow)
14. Once the phone reboots, go ahead and and go through the welcome guide and get to the home screen.
II) Flashing a Recovery Image
1. Now with your phone at the home screen, go to settings>applications> an turn on unknown sources.
2. Now go to settings>SD card and Phone Storage>Unmount SD Card
3. Now Click format sd card and go ahead and format your sd card. It will automatically remount after.
4. Go back to the home screen and plug and mount the phone to the computer again as you did earlier.
5. Place the following files you downloaded earlier right into the sd card: FlashRec.apk, and Amon Ra's Recovery Image (Again not in any folder or anything, just on the sd card)
6. Once they are transferred go ahead and unmount and unplug your phone from the computer
7. Go and download a file manager from the android market (I suggest LINDA FILE MANAGER)
8. Once downloaded, open the file manager and go to SD card, and click the FlashRec.apk file and then click install. If it asks -> Tell it to use package installer to open it (it probably wont ask but if it does)
9. Once installed click open (it will be on bottom left of screen)
10. Then click the button that says "backup recovery image"
11. Once it says "backup complete" open the keyboard and type the following: /sdcard/recovery.img
12. Then click "flash custom recovery image" and wit until it says "Flash complete"
13. Go back to the home screen and then turn off the phone.
14. Turn the phone back on into recovery mode by holding down the home and power buttons. You will see a bunch of text on top of a black background with an HTC logo in the middle.
III) Partitioning and Loading the latest radio
1. Scroll down to "Partition SD Card"
2. Click "Partition SD"
3. Press the Home key to confirm
4. Use the trackball to increase the "swap size" to 96MB then press Home key
5. Make sure "EXT2" is set to 512 MB then Click the Home Key
6. Make sure "Fat32 size" is set to remainder and then press the Home Key and then the phone will begin partitioning.
7. Once partitioning is complete scroll down and select to "SD: ext2 to ext3" and then press the Home key. Wait for it to upgrade.
8. Once the Upgrade is complete hit the "back" button to get back to the main menu. Then scroll down and select "USB-MS Toggle" and wait for it to enable.
9. Now plug the phone into the computer again. Now transfer the files downloaded earlier: G1 Radio, G1 HardSPL, Generic G1 Rom w/ root, to the phone. (AGAIN KEEP THE FILES JUST IN THE SD CARD AND NOT IN A FOLDER OR SOMETHING)
10. Once the transfer is complete hit the Home key to disable the USB-MS toggle and return back to the main menu of recovery mode. Unplug your phone.
11. Scroll down and select "Flash .zip from SDcard"
12. Select the G1 Radio file (named OTA Radio or something like that) and hit the Home key to confirm. DO NOT SELECT ANY OTHER FILE, THE RADIO MUST BE DONE FIRST.
13. Once the Radio Flash is complete Press Home+Back to reboot the phone. It will then say "writing radio image" and then reboot back into recover mode (this will take some time)
14. Once back into recovery mode, scroll and select "Flash zip from SDcard" again.
15. This time choose the SPL file (named somthing like "Latest G1 SPL.zip") and then click the HOME KEY to confirm.
16. Once it finishes, hit HOME+Back to reboot once again. It will say "writing boot image" and then reboot
back to recovery mode.
17. Once again scroll to "Flash zip from SDCard" and choose the Generic G1 Rom file (Named something like Generic G1 Root Rom.zip) and click Home to confirm and wait for it to finish.
18. Once finished it should go back to the main menu and say"Install from SD card complete"
19. Now click on the "Reboot System Now" choice. (Home+Back)
20. Wait for the phone to reboot back into Android.
IV)Installing CYANOGENMOD 6 (Android 2.2 Froyo for HTC DREAM)
1. Once back into Android, turn the phone back off.
2. Hold the Home + power keys to turn the phone on and get it back into recovery mode
3. Select "USB-MS Toggle" and wait for it to enable
4. Once enabled, plug your phone in and transfer the CYANOGENMOD6 and GAPPS file ito your SD card/phone. (again not in any folder, just in the sd card)
5. Once the files are transferred, press the Home key to disable USB-MS Toggle and return to the main menu, and then unplug your phone.
6. Scroll down and select "wipe" and then select "wipe data / factory reset" and then hit the Home key to confirm. Wait for it to finish the wipe. It will say "Data wipe complete"
7. Hit the back key to return to the main menu.
8. Scroll and select "Flash Zip from SDCard"
9. Select the CYANOGENMOD 6 ROM Named something like "update-cm-6.0.0-DS-RC1-signed.zip" and hit Home to confirm and wait for it to finish.
10. Once finished it will go back to the main menu and say "Install from SD Card Complete"
11. Go back to "Flash Zip from SDCard"
12. Select the Gapps File Named something like "gapps-mdpi-FRF91-3-signed.zip" and click home to confirm.
13. Once it is finished you should be back at the main menu. Select "Reboot System Now" and wait for the phone to reboot.
14. The reboot will take some time, (roughly 5-10 minutes) so don't freak out. Just put your phone down and go do something =)

this is how to root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668090
this will give you links to tips and understanding about android and the g1
the roms found here are all over a year old but plenty are still "good" newer roms are in the development section, usually the first 2-3pages will have most of the newest roms
There are a few good roms here and there for the G1.
Don't let the newbie reply fool you, just an old dev starting under a new name.
I would suggest:
For froyo: FroyobyLaszlo, DreamTeamFroyo
For gingerbread: ezGingerBread, CronMod, ADSMagpie
Thanks every one... after going through the rom bible for a few times i was also thinking about ezGingerBread... thanks thanks thanks for the working downloads... got all the files needed...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882356
now i need to know status of my phone, the radio or firmware version... i'm posting whatever i could get out of my phone... will just flushing do? as mentioned in the ezgingerbread page of xda developers?
Model number: Android Dev Phone 1
firmware Version: 1.6
Basband Version: 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-00479-g3c7df37 android [email protected]#19
Build number: dream_devphone-userdebug1.6 DRC8314721 test-keys
you have a developers phone so you dont need to root. but it would be a good idea to add a custom recovery and update your radio/spl. unless this has already been done. you can check by powering on while holding the camera button, write down everything on this screen

Ok just did the camera button power up
It says
DREA*** PVT 32B
H Boot - 0.95.3000
CPLD - 4
RADIO - 2.22.19.26I
Oct 20 2008
Serial - 10
you probably still have a stock recovery, you should change this to either amonra or clockwork
you also need to upgrade your spl(hboot) to either .2005 or .2003
then you mentioned you wanted to try ezgingerbread, for this you need the 2708+ update (ram hack)
you will need to updgrade radio to .08 or .25
then upgrade spl to .13d
all the how to's are found all over these threads, search around a bit and if you get stuck just ask again. these same questions are asked weekly still so there are loads of threads with detailed instructions found everywhere

That will give you all of the information you need to get a custom recovery and updated radio on your phone.
1. did you have to reset device like while installing beta 1 because of password to open
2. will beta 1 users get ota to beta2 or do you have to manually install
3. here is my android 10 beta 1 chage list my post has anything changed?
1. No we don't have to reset.
2. As it's Developer Image Version (Beta ROM) we won't get OTA and it's recommended to flash full zip.
3. Most of the bugs found in Beta 1 have been fixed but some are there still. (I didn't use Beta 1 so can't compare)

Hello, I was replacing the LCD screen of the phone, did a test to see if it was working. Managed to get to the boot screen but doesn't show anything after that, it's just black. The touch detection works I can feel the phone vibrate when I press on certain parts of the screen (I assume it's the pin keypad). Any idea on what the problem is and how to fix it?
Hello NotNeoSF!
I have the same problem, in fact I think I can elaborate. So after replacing the screen, I could se perfectly the boot logo so I thought "Nice, fixed" but then just blank like you. But I noticed that, in the dark, I could see that the screen was working and I could use the phone normaly with no issues. I think that if you power the phone and take it into a room with no light u will see the same. It looks like for some reason the O.S. is disabling the back light of the screen...
Anyone has any idea how to fix it?
Had this too on my phone, which is a xiaomi redmi note 9 pro.
Just fixed it.
Please note: I am not a pro. Just trying to find my way out.
So please be careful with my instructions.
What happens:
- boot logo is visible
- after boot display goes dark
- you indeed feel the phone vibrate when you press on some parts on the display (indeed the pin keypas)
What went wrong in my case:
Display was turned to brightness 0 and thus when system loads it turns of the display.
There are probably other solutions, but I had not adb enabled (debugging options), .... so I went this way:
go into recovery mode (twrp/orange fox/...)
I am using orange fox recovery, don't know instructions for others, but it should be something similar
in the menu choose: mount
select system
orange fox recovery has adb enabled, but you should make sure recovery adb access is enabled
Now you have access through adb to system files
get the build.prop file to your computer
default location is /system/build.prop
On my phone this was /system_root/system/build.prop
You can try both or find out how to get yours. you'll see when a file gets downloaded to your pc.
so for mine this was:
Code:
adb pull /system_root/system/build.prop
edit the downloaded file in notepad and add following lines:
Code:
#Set min and max brightness
ro.lcd_min_brightness=70
ro.lcd_brightness=255
the upload the changed file to your phone
In my case this was to /system_root/system/build.prop
Code:
adb push build.prop /system_root/system/build.prop
reboot your phone
Code:
adb reboot
After reboot display will be set to minimum brightness (70 in this case) (max is 255=brightest)
and you will be able to get in and adjust brightness.
Hope this works for you.
PS: If you just changed the display, check the proximity sensors wires and connectors.
But if this would be faulty, normally the pin keypad wouldn't react either.
