Touch screens does not always work - Touch GSM General

Hi,
For two days i have some screen problems. My touchscreen does not react on touch. If i use the buttons it works but on the screen it doesn't. Sometimes it does work for a few minutes.
The buttons always work (but ther are just a few buttons )
Anyone knows what to do?

Have the same problem. The touch screen goes dead but the buttons below works.
Anyone knows how to rectify this problem?
I had a HTC Touch earlier also and had to give that for repair for the same problem.

I have the same problem with mine, hopefully someone have a solution for this would be very appreciated.
MrQ

Anyone found a solution to this?
My new HTC also now is facing the same issue. The touch screen has gone totally invalid. The bottom buttons work but the touch screen does not. The other big problem now i have is that the phone is locked and i am unable to unlock it.
GOD, if there is a GOD, save my HTC.

I presume you've done soft resets to the phone and it doesn't fix the problem.
Have you flashed any ROM to your Touch? What ROM did you flash if you have? See if it's a common problem with flashed ROM's.
If not, and you're on generic ROM, try to do a hard-reset and see if it fixes the problem. (Hold down both green and red button and poke the reset button while still holding down the 2 buttons). You will lose all the data on your Touch.
If doing a hard-reset on a generic ROM still doesn't fix the problem, then I'm afraid you have a HW problem. Send it in for repair if it's still under warranty.

well u can also try this, it may be because of pressure setting for the screen
"install a reg editing software like PHM and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and then DRIVERS and then TOUCH PANEL; now change the value of PRESSURE THRESHOLD. Remember to increase the valur only, try doubling the value acc to ur need"

If you don't have any warranty and a hard reset didn't work (note if you hard reset and it doesn't work you will be stuck at the screen alignment) then you may be facing a defective digitizer. If you are brave you can take a look at this link (complete dissasembly of Elf)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407323
to study how to take your device apart to replace the digitizer yourself.

Some hardware buttons won't work!

This is my first post and I must say that this is a great group of people who know what they are talking about!
Anyways, I have had my 8525 for about two weeks and I am loving it. For whatever reason some of my buttons do not work! The dpad works but the two soft buttons, the start button, ok button, email, PIE, and the green and red buttons don't work. The power, scroller, comm manager, the left ok button and the PTT all DO work. I did a hard reset hoping that would fix it but no luck. I been installing and trying a lot of programs but I thought after the hard reset that any program that screwed this up would be gone. Please help I love this phone and really don't want to take it back.
Thanks,
Dan
I took it back and that solved all of my problems.
you took back , what?
i am having the same issue with a HTC Tytn.

My hermes has a similar problem, buttons under the screen sometimes won't work, but if I turn off backlight and turn on, it works... but not very well because if I press green button then red button continually, buttons don't work again after few pressions....
I have changed my ROM but it's the same, it isn't a hardware problem because if I turn the scroll it works again...
This problem is known?
Thank you very muche for your help and sorry for my bad english.
same issue with my TyTN...
Same issue here with Tytn, buttons won't work but if I use scroll button a bit then buttons work again.
Hey guys,
Exactly the same problem here and it's infuriating when I'm trying to make calls on the run and sometimes I can't even pick up calls.
I have an I-mate Jasjam ROM 1.31.305.2.
If anyone has any fixes or solutions that would be great. Or do I have to send it in for repair or something?
So has anyone managed to fix this? Anyone tried a hard reset?
I have no idea how to diagnose the issue and even whether it's a software or hardware fault.
Jasjam- Same here
Also my screen turnes white some times

I'm also having these problems with the front buttons not working. Very frustrating. The problems seem to be platform independent.
I really cannot believe this. When I used the search function I noticed so many people are having these problems with the TyTN, and no resolve.
It's my second machine I received from HTC, first one also had these problems.
HTC sucks BIGTIME.

Has anyone solved front buttons not responding problem?

Hello, I have had this TYTN I for a long time without any major problems. It was originally with WM5 but then I upgraded to WM6. Lately I had a strange problem whereby the front buttons stop responding intermittently.
The below mentioned buttons stop working:
1. The Internet Explorer button.(Above on the right)
2. The Message button.(Above on the left)
3. The Call buttons. (The call picking and disconnecting button, below left and right) And the 4 keys along it.
During this time I have to resort to the pointer or the side wheel to use the phone, which is very frustrating.
If I press the reset button at the bottom, the keys work again for a few times, then stop to respond again.
I have tried to flash again with both WM5 and WM6 but did not help. I have opened the phone and reseated all connectors but did not help either. Do you think I should try replacing the ribbon cable?
I have searched the forum and found several threads with the same problem, but never a solution.
Your help is much appreciated. Thanks.
I have been struggling the last few months with the same exact problem. Sometimes the buttons work other times they don't, and in the last couple of weeks the frequency of button failure has increased (every couple of minutes).
I found a few users yesterday over on the HTC forum who were having the same problem and 1 user who actually reported a fix that worked for him.
Go to Start/Settings/System/Key Lock and select "Do Not Lock Buttons". Exit Key Lock and soft reset your device. You may know return to the Key Lock options and re-select your choice (I used "Lock all buttons except Power button").
Worked for the HTC user and is working for me as I have had no button failure now in the last 24-hours with repeated use of the device.
I hope this works for you because if you are like me I getting very close to trashing the unit.
Hi,
the problem could be the Xilinx chip (a BGA chip) on the pcb underneath the buttons.
As the buttons are pressed the board is flexed and some of the solder pads under the xilinx chip must have become detached from the xilinx chip itself.
I had the white screen problem. An while i got the white screen the front buttons where not working too.
In the whte screen threat i found that it could be the Xilinx chip, and figured out when pressing on this chip the white screen was gone and the buttons where working.
So i resoldered (refloated) the chip with a heatgun and some liquid flux last Sunday and since then i had no problems anymore.
I would suggest disassembling the phone down to the pcb and try starting it on with the ribboncables connected while keep some pressure on the Xilinx chip. And then trying the buttons if they work.

I have the same problem with the same phone. The instructions above for "key lock" didn't fix it for me. I was assuming that it was hardware; but I just tried installing the Android port for this phone and under Android the buttons work fine.
I know that Android has some good stuff going for it, but I don't think it's awesome enough to circumvent a bad circuit... How exactly do these buttons work? Is there a process that should be running to handle them? Any other pointers?

anyone came across this problem :S end button jammed

the screen is not responsive to any touch except the end button and the lower right corner.. i have never dropped it and have always been taking care of it but prior to the problem i remember am having it in my pocket and there was some mild pressure over it and now this.. tried hard resetting tried rom change tried to manually giggle with the thing but nothing worked only thing i can come up with on the screen is the end button screen but then i can not chose anything

Hi inspireme, suggest you use SOTI Pocket Controller Pro to get your device up on your PC screen (download trial version at http://www.soti.net/default.asp?Cmd=Products&SubCmd=PCPro). Then check whether the onscreen remote on your PC responds to mouse clicks. This will tell you whether you have a hardware or software problem. If it's hardware you need a new touchscreen. If its software, a ROM reinstall should solve it.

Registry Help - volume keys on diamond

My Diamond is about to go in the bin!!!
If anyone knows how to edit the registry to "switch off" the volume keys on the Diamond then please, please, please help me.
The volume screen is permanently flashing on my screen, and seems to be stuck on the up button which means I can't use the phone. it's not a hardware issue as the buttons aren't stuck or won't work, it's from a bad flash (according to HTC!) - i've tried stock roms/MTTY etc but the problem still persists from one rom to another.
Any registry experts willing to help
Not sure how you can achieve this if the volume is always on top but if you install AEbutton you can unmap the volume buttons
thanks for the reply i'll give it a try
What happens if you leave out volume control? I guess MS volume control would prolly pop up then ?

I can almost 100% sure tell you that it's hardware there is a sensor underneath the button that is probable stuck. because if it wasn't then a rom flash would have fixed it. there is a spray don't know what it's called in
English but something like contact cleaner it cleans electric parts for dust

Thanks for the replies everyone, AE button seems to have fixed it, although i'm not 100% sure that it's gone yet, as it could stop for a while and start again.
HTC did say it was a hardware fault caused by installing hard spl/custom rom (although I only left Hard spl when I sent it back..by mistake ) and wanted to charge me £230.
i'll try the spray cleaner anyway I don't think it will do any harm.
Thanks again for all the replies, at least it's semi-useable again...

phoned keys locked and touch screen not working - unable to unlock

Hello,
These last days I had a lot of problems to align the screen of my Samsung Omni Addict player I900. The problem is that the touch screen is not centered anymore and it does not react when I press something on the screen.
To solve the problem I wanted to make a hard reset by using the following key combination "*2767*3855#‏".
My biggest problem is that, by mistake, I did lock the screen and keys of the phone and then when I press any key, my phone ask me to press the "Unlock" option on the screen, but I cannot do it as the touch screen does not react correctly.
I'm wondering if there is any possibility to edit the register to be able to unlock it.
Any other ideas are welcome. I'm blocked on this problem for two days now
Thanks in advance for your help,
Alain
Maybe I'm missing something but... can't you just soft reset it? I don't think it will boot up screen-locked....
Soft reset didn't help but after multiple tries I managed to do an hard reset which did solve the problem.
The problem I'm facing to now is that I cannot align the screen. As recommanded in different posts in this forum I have changed the CalibrationData value in the registery but still, after following the "align screen" procedure the screen does not react correctly. To be able to move forward I would like to be able to activate the mouse cursor. Do you know how could I activate it by changing a value in the registery?
If not I will create a new post with this question.
Thanks in advance.
Alain.
I'm sorry, haven't had an i900 in my hands for a while now, I don't remember which reg key you need
